How do I install and mount my Arlo Solar Panel?

There are three Arlo Solar Panels designed to work with Arlo cameras. To know which Arlo Solar Panel is compatible with your camera, visit: Arlo Solar Panel Compatibility

You can use Arlo Solar Panels in any outdoor location that falls within the solar panel’s operating temperature range of 32° to 113°F (0° to 45°C). For safety reasons, the Arlo Solar Panel cannot charge your camera battery at temperatures below freezing.

To set up your Arlo Solar Panel:

Choose a good outdoor location for your Arlo Solar Panel, within 4.5 feet (1.3 meters) of your Arlo camera.
The Arlo Solar Panel can absorb the most solar energy when it is in full sunlight for as much of the day as possible. You can mount the Arlo Solar Panel on your wall, fence, roof, gutter, or eaves. Make sure that you mount your Arlo Solar Panel facing true south (in the northern hemisphere) or true north (in the southern hemisphere).
Secure the mount with the screws provided in the package.
Attach your Arlo Solar Panel to the mount.
Adjust the angle of the Arlo Solar Panel on the mount to the appropriate angle for your latitude.
Make sure that your Arlo camera battery is fully charged.
Note: Your Arlo Solar Panel is designed to keep your camera battery charged, not to charge the battery from low to full.
Connect the Arlo Solar Panel cable to your Arlo camera.

Warning: Do not unplug the cable from your Arlo Solar Panel. This can damage the cable and the Arlo Solar Panel.

Note: The charging icon will not immediately appear in the Arlo Secure app. If you want to confirm that your camera is charging, you can wait for the charging icon to appear, or you can check the camera’s battery percentage in the Arlo Secure app from day to day. How do I position the Arlo Solar Panel to get the most sunlight?

The amount of energy that the Arlo Solar Panel can produce depends on several factors: average sun exposure, weather conditions, tilt angle, and dust or debris. A solar panel in the same location might produce a different amount of energy at noon in December than at noon in June.

To optimize the effectiveness of your solar panel, do the following:

Choose a location for your solar panel that gets plenty of sunlight; try to avoid spots that are in the shade for a significant portion of the day.
Mount your solar panel facing true south (in the northern hemisphere) or true north (in the southern hemisphere) and tilt it to the appropriate angle for your latitude.
Wipe the panel every few months to remove dust or debris that might affect the solar energy-harvesting efficiency of the panel.

How to troubleshoot Arlo Solar Panel charging issues

If the Arlo Solar Panel is not keeping your Arlo camera charged, follow the troubleshooting steps below.

Note: Charge your Arlo camera before using it with the Arlo Solar Panel. The Arlo Solar Panel is meant to keep your camera charged, not to charge it from low to full battery.

To troubleshoot issues with your Arlo Solar Panel:

Check the solar icons in the Arlo Secure App to determine the charging state.If a solar panel is used, the following icons display:

Solar Icon	Battery Icon(s)	Meaning
		Battery Fully Charged Note: It is possible that these icons will only display for a few minutes and then revert to gray.
		Battery Charging
		Battery Not Charging Note: If the battery is too cold or too hot, the battery will not charge.
No Icon		Battery or Charger Status Unavailable

Confirm the Arlo Solar Panel is compatible with your camera by visiting the following link: Arlo Solar Panel Compatibility.
Unplug and reconnect the cable from your camera. Check the condition of the cable to confirm there are no exposed or damaged wires.
Make sure that your solar panel is pointed toward the sun and is not obstructed by trees, buildings, or other obstacles.

Make sure that your Arlo camera is not in temperatures below freezing.
For safety reasons, your Arlo camera battery cannot charge in temperatures below 32°F (0° C).
Make sure that a battery is inserted into the Arlo camera that you are charging with the Arlo Solar Panel.
The solar panel charges the battery, but it can’t power the camera if no battery is inserted.
Make sure that your camera’s battery is fully charged when you connect the solar panel to your camera.
The Arlo Solar Panel is designed to provide trickle charging to keep your camera battery charged, not to charge your camera battery from low to full.
Reduce your camera usage for a day or two and note your camera’s battery level.
Heavy usage of your camera can drain the camera battery faster than the solar panel can recharge it, especially with poor sun exposure.
Clean the panel with a lightly damp cloth to remove dirt and debris from the surface.
