Swann Wi-Fi camera FAQs, Wi-Fi home security systems wirelessly transmit video signals to an NVR recorder or directly to an app via the cloud, making for easier, faster, less intrusive installation. Powered Wi-Fi security cameras need to be situated within range of a nearby power socket. Swann has Wi-Fi security cameras that can often be mounted inside or outside, perfect for monitoring entrances, detached garages, outbuildings, and more. Can a wireless camera be added to a wired system?

The following Swann Security cameras can only be viewed and accessed via the Swann Security app from a mobile device.

They cannot be added to Swann security system recorders, such as DVRs, NVRs, and NVWs. These recorders are compatible with specific system camera models.

• Compatible DVR system wired PRO cameras utilize coaxial cable connections.

• Compatible NVR system wired NHD cameras require ethernet cable connection.

• NVW system wireless cameras must be a specific model compatible with the NVW system.

Can a SWIFI camera work without Internet?

Internet is required as the SWIFI cameras communicate to the P2P server using the Internet to stream to the Swann Security app and upload recordings to the cloud.

Compatible Routers

Any of the following routers are compatible provided they have a 2.4 GHz frequency:

• WiFi mesh routers

Compatible Wi-Fi extender or repeaters

It is possible for the SWIFI camera to pair to the router via WiFi extender if the extender is compatible and setup correctly to the router. Troubleshooting and configuration of your extender’s settings have to be performed by your router manufacturer support team, Internet Service Provider or your IT department. Tip: Try to pair the camera to the router first to check whether its internal network adapter is working. If it works via router but not extender, then there’s a chance the extender is not compatible.

Swann Wi-Fi camera FAQs

Not Compatible / Not Recommended

We do not recommend SWIFI cameras to be connected to the following devices because they cannot provide the necessary network configuration information to the camera to allow it to join the network automatically unless your network device is configured. Troubleshooting and configuration of your device’s settings have to be performed by your router manufacturer support team, Internet Service Provider or your IT department.

Network Devices:

Example:

Mobile WiFi router: This has not been tested and can cause unstable network connectivity of your camera, causing missed recordings in the cloud or streaming issues since the signal from the Mobile router can be prone to fluctuation and interference from your mobile service provider.

Mobile phone hotspot/tethering:

This is not supported by SWIFI cameras. Similarly to mobile WiFi routers, it may not work.

Can I view my SWIFI camera on a TV / computer or record to a DVR / NVR?

The cameras above are hub-free. A hub is a base station or recording/storage device that connects via the Internet to the cameras. In contrast, a hub-free camera operates on Wi-Fi exclusively without requiring any additional hardware to store footage.

A hub-free (standalone) Wi-Fi camera is only capable of:

• Recording to its own internal or local storage (microSD card in some models) temporarily for upload to the Swann Security cloud. Downloading recordings from the cloud to your mobile phone is possible via the Swann Security app.

• External storage to a hard drive is not possible. Therefore, these cameras are not compatible with DVRs nor NVRs for recording.

• Recording when triggered by PIR and motion for all SWIFI cameras except TRACKCM, and motion only for SWIFI-TRACKCM.

• 24/7 continuous recording is not possible due to internal storage-to-cloud storage recording. See Why does my Wi-Fi Camera stop recording motion prematurely?

• Streaming its live view or recordings via the Swann Security app only on a compatible Android or iOS mobile device.

• Devices such as TVs, Chromebook, Windows computer, Windows phone, and Mac computers are not supported for these cameras.

• Third party apps or software on mobile device and computers are not supported. SWIFI cameras were not intended to work with other hardware and third-party computer software; therefore, Swann WiFi cameras are not ONVIF compliant.

• Note: Attempts to configure the cameras for streaming and recording on third-party hardware and software via RTSP is at your discretion but is not supported by Swann Tech Support. Swann fully supports all products for the entire warranty period, but cannot support third party software, as Swann has no control over its use or design. Unauthorized end user or third-party modifications to any component will void any warranty claim.

These features make a hub-free Wi-Fi camera suitable for users who prefer a wireless setup, easier DIY installation, less hardware, and less footage to check in low-traffic areas of view.

How do I tell whether my router’s WiFi signal is 2.4GHz or 5GHz for pairing a SWIFI camera?

This is one of the most common reasons why a connection will fail while trying to pair a SWIFI camera to your Swann Security account. If you try to pair a SWIFI camera to the incorrect frequency or SSID name, the error that appears on the app can be one of the following:

• Unable to verify connectivity (Android)

• Incorrect frequency detected (Android)

• Failed to establish initial connection (iOS)

Via Mobile Device Settings

One way to tell if the phone is connected to the correct frequency of the router is by checking the name of the SSID (the default name of your router’s WiFi hotspot):

Android: Go to your phone’s Settings app. Tap on Connections. Tap on Wi-Fi. Look below “Available networks”.

iOS: Open the ‘Settings’ app. Tap on ‘Wi-Fi’. See “Networks”.

In the example above, the router has multiple SSIDs. An SSID that has “_2.4GHz,” “24G,” “2.4,” or “24” appended at the end is most likely a 2.4GHz signal. This is the network your phone needs to be connected to before you start pairing a SWIFI camera.

Via Router GUI

If you see two or more Wi-Fi network names that belong to you without 24 or 5, then one may be a 5 GHz band. To identify which name uses 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz, login to your router’s settings.

1.Log in to the router’s settings.

2.Go to Wireless settings.

3.Look for 2.4G and 5G to see the network names.

For assistance with accessing or navigating your router, contact the manufacturer of your router or your Internet Service Provider if you do not know. Swann Tech Support can only assist in pairing IF your router has a 2.4GHz signal and if you already know the correct WiFi credentials of your router.

How to change the time zone of my SWIFI camera in the Swann Security app?

The error “Device Timezone Out of Sync” appears if your camera’s time zone is different from your phone app’s time zone.

If your camera is in a different location (with different time zone) than your mobile device, you can ignore hit Cancel.

If the date and time displayed on the camera’s Live View is incorrect, do the following:

1. Go to Devices.

2. Select your Device.

3. Go to Time Zone.

4. Tap on the pencil icon below Device Timezone.

5. Tap on Sync with phone if you are in the same timezone as the camera’s location

If your camera is in a different location than your phone, scroll and manually select the UTC associated with your camera’s location (time zone). Timezone is based on Universal Coordinated Time (UTC), and options range from UTC -12:00 to UTC +14:00

Here are the conversions for common regions if you are unable to find your city in the dropdown:

6. Tap on Save on the top right corner.

Repeat each step for each camera device paired to your Swann Security account.

How to create Guest account on a WHD-PTCAM using SwannView Link software?

Installing SwannView Link

1.Using a computer (Windows or Mac) connect to the same router or modem where your camera is connected.

2.Install SwannView Linksoftware.

a.For Windows, click here.

b.For Mac, click here.

3.Once installed, open SwannView Link.

Adding the camera

Since the computer is on the same router or modem already, when you open SwannView Link the camera will be auto-detected, but the password will not be entered yet. You will see the error message below. Just click on OK.

How to forget 5GHz connection for pairing a SWIFI camera

Some mobile devices have a tendency to switch between hotspots or SSID automatically. This can disrupt the pairing process when setting up your SWIFI camera to your mobile device.

To avoid connecting to a 5GHz signal or the wrong hotspot during pairing, forget the 5GHz connection:

Android	iPhone/iPad
1.Tap Settings. 2.Tap Connections. 3.Tap Wi-Fi. 4.Tap and hold the Wi-Fi to remove > Forget network.	1.Go to Settings > Wi-Fi. 2.Tap next to the Wi-Fi network that you want your device to forget. 3.Tap Forget This Network, then tap Forget to confirm.

Note: If you see a WiFi name that ends with _ext, it is most likely a WiFi extender.

How to hard reset Floodlight Security Camera (SWIFI-FLOCAM2 / SWWHD-FLOCAM)

Performing a factory or hard reset of the camera will:

1.Set the camera to pairing mode.

2.Format the internal memory/microSD card (i.e., erase all locally stored clips)

3.Wipe the current Wi-Fi pairing information but will NOT unpair the camera from your Swann Security account.

4.Return all of the camera settings to the original factory defaults.

How to factory reset via physical button

1.Locate the Reset button (see below figure) on the SWIFI-FLOCAM2 / SWWHD-FLOCAM. It is behind the camera module covered by a rubber flap.

2.Press and hold the Reset button (for 20 seconds).

3.When the blue LED indicator on the camera turns off, release the Reset button.

4.The camera will start the factory reset process which can take up to 2 minutes.

5.Once factory reset is complete, it will be in Pairing mode (LED will be in slow blinking blue).

After you factory reset your device, you’ll have to pair it with your Wi-Fi network again.

How to hard reset SWIFI-2KOCAM / SWIFI-SPOTCAM / SWWHD-OUTCAM

Performing a factory or hard reset of the camera will:

1.Set the camera to pairing mode.

2.Format the internal memory/microSD card (i.e., erase all locally stored clips)

3.Wipe the current Wi-Fi pairing information but will NOT unpair the camera from your Swann Security account.

4.Return all of the camera settings to the original factory defaults.

How to factory reset via physical button

1.Locate the Reset button (see below figure) on the twin cable of the SWIFI-2KOCAM / SWIFI-SPOTCAM / SWWHD-OUTCAM.

2.Press and hold the Reset button (for 20 seconds).

3.When the blue LED indicator on the camera turns off, release the Reset button.

4.The camera will start the factory reset process which can take up to 2 minutes.

5.Once factory reset is complete, it will be in Pairing mode (LED will be in slow blinking blue).

After you factory reset your device, you’ll have to pair it with your Wi-Fi network again.

How to hard reset SWIFI-BUDDY

Performing a factory or hard reset of the camera will:

1.Set the camera to pairing mode.

2.Format the internal memory/microSD card (i.e., erase all locally stored clips)

3.Wipe the current Wi-Fi pairing information but will NOT unpair the camera from your Swann Security account.

4.Return all of the camera settings to the original factory defaults.

How to factory reset via physical button

1.Ensure the camera has been fully charged for at least 4 hours prior.

2.Locate the SET button and RST pinhole (see below figure) on the back of the camera.

3.Press and hold the SET and RST button (pin required).

4.After 2 seconds, release RST button.

5.Once blue LED turns off (or after 15 seconds), release SET button.

6.Once factory reset is complete, it will be in Pairing mode (LED will be in slow blinking blue) and you will hear it say “Ready for pairing”.

After you factory reset your device, you’ll have to pair it with your Wi-Fi network again.

How to hard reset SWIFI-CORECAM / SWIFI-COREPRO

Performing a factory or hard reset of the camera will:

1.Set the camera to pairing mode.

2.Format the internal memory/microSD card (i.e., erase all locally stored clips)

3.Wipe the current Wi-Fi pairing information but will NOT unpair the camera from your Swann Security account.

4.Return all of the camera settings to the original factory defaults.

How to factory reset via physical button

1.Ensure the camera has been fully charged for at least 4 hours prior.

2.Locate the Reset button (see below figure) on the camera.

3.Press and hold the Reset button (for about10 seconds).

4.Once the LED indicator on the camera turns off, release the Reset button.

5.The camera will start the factory reset process which can take up to 2 minutes.

6.Once factory reset is complete, it will be in Pairing mode (LED will be in slow blinking blue).

After you factory reset your device, you’ll have to pair it with your Wi-Fi network again.

How to set SWIFI-MOTION / SWIFI-WDOOR / SWIFI-LEAK / SWIFI-ISIREN to pairing mode

Setting the sensor or siren to pairing mode will:

1.Allow you to update the Wi-Fi credentials within 3 minutes

2.NOT unpair the camera from your Swann Security account.

Note: If the sensor or siren is paired to your account and the Wi-Fi details did not change, it will connect back to the same network once pairing mode times out after 3 minutes.

Sensors	How to set to pairing mode
SWIFI-MOTION	Re-insert the batteries to activate pairing mode.
SWIFI-WDOOR	Re-insert the batteries to activate pairing mode.
SWIFI-LEAK	Re-insert the batteries to activate pairing mode.
SWIFI-ISIREN	Touch and hold the Touch button for 6 seconds to set to pairing mode.

Why does my WiFi camera stop recording motion after a minute?

Wireless standalone cameras can only record by PIR/motion. Where the camera is mounted can have an impact on how effective movement is picked up and recorded.

Reasons:

1.Wireless cameras can record from 10 seconds up to 1 minute per recording. If the motion is continuous for more than a minute and continues across the camera (left to right, top to bottom), then it will stop recording at one minute and continue to record in another clip for the duration of the movement.

2.If the movement stops after a minute, the camera will stop recording. This means an intruder could still be standing on the same spot with subtle movements long enough to thwart the PIR/motion sensors. There is no fix other than that to utilize a security system camera instead to record continuously.

3.Mounting any camera with thermal and motion sensors in the wrong location and angle can prevent recordings of certain movement. If the movement is isolated and small, the camera sensors may not be able to identify the changes between frames because the differences are subtle.

Fix: Reposition the camera or add another camera for a different angle of view.

The ideal position of the camera is 7-8 feet high, pointing downwards at an angle to cover the area where people will be walking across the camera’s path.

Can I pair my SWIFI-BUDDY to another receiver/chime?

The SwannBuddy™ Doorbell Unit is only compatible with a SwannBuddy™ Chime Speaker Unit:

Testing has identified that the doorbell can be paired with up to 3 SwannBuddy™ Chime Speaker units.

The SwannBuddy™ Doorbell Unit is NOT compatible with any other type of chime model whether from Swann nor a third party manufacturer.

Not compatible with:

Swann Alarm Kit receiver

Any other Swann alarm receiver

How do I share my WHD-PTCAM?

Sharing the WHD-PTCAM

1.Open the AlwaysSafe app and under Devices, tap the gear icon to enter Device Settings.

2.Tap Share to see the QR code assigned for the camera.

3.This is what the QR code looks like on the app.

4.Set it aside and grab the other phone.

Scan to add a camera

1.Using the other phone, download AlwaysSafe app then run it once done.

2.Tap the plus icon to let the app scan the QR code.

3.Place the other phone behind to have this phone see the QR code and scan it.

4.Enter the username and password of the camera.

5.Tap on Login and after few seconds, it will now load the camera on the 2nd phone.

NOTE: If you logged in using a Guest account, you are limited to:

a.changing the password of the Guest account

b.Live View

c.Playback

How many files can I store in my SwannCloud account?

As of now, the SwannCloud can let you record 15 seconds per event and it will be stored approximately 5 days. In the future, there will be some other options to be chosen with regards to this but there are no approximate date of arrival yet.

How to check the battery level of my Wi-Fi camera?

This applies to SWIFI-CAM, SWIFI-CORECAM, SWIFI-COREPRO, SWIFI-XTRCAM, SWIFI-BUDDY, SWIFI-MOTION, SWIFI-LEAK, SWIFI-WDOOR, SWIFI-SIREN.

There are 2 ways:

1.When the LED is:

• Dim than normal (for sensors)

• Blinking purple (for SWIFI cameras)

2.If the camera status is Connected or online and paired, open the Swann Security app.

1.Go to the Devices.

2.Tap on the device’s name.

3.Under Device Information, look for Battery or Battery Level.

Note: If the Device Status is Disconnected, the battery level shown is the last that was synced to the Swann Security server and your phone before the camera disconnected. This means the current battery level cannot be seen until the camera is recharged and reconnected to the network.

How to delete recordings of a SWIFI camera in the Swann Security app

There are two ways to delete recordings of a standalone Wi-Fi camera that is compatible with the Swann Security app.

Delete one or few recorded clips:

1. Go to Playback.

2.Tap on the Storage (microSD card) icon on the top beside the logo.

3.Select your device. (pause and wait for the clips to load. If there are none, it means that the camera does not have a microSD card or internal storage)

4.Tap on the trash / bin icon beside the recording with timestamp you wish to remove.

Delete all recordings (Format the internal storage)

Note: Formatting deletes all recordings from local storage or microSD card. It will not delete the recordings from the cloud. Once deleted, they cannot be recovered.

• Via the app:

1.Go to Devices > select your device.

2.Go to Settings > System Settings.

3.Tap Format.

4.Select Confirm.

How to playback recordings? ( via Swann Security App)

NOTE: As of v2.7.45 in Android, you can get a preview (like a GIF) instead of a generic icon for a recorder’s clip if you enable Show playback preview under Stream Option.

1.Change the date – either choose a date from the:

• Numbers above (available to both Android and iOS); or

• Calendar icon (Android only) to choose further dates i.In case the calendar icon isn’t showing, tap the MONTH at the top instead to pull up the calendar.

2. Use Filter – to narrow down list of recordings within the selected date

• Device Types

• For recorders, you can choose the recorder (to select all channels) or specific channels.

• For IP cameras, choose a camera.

• Unpaired devices – only for SS IP cameras that has cloud recording; let’s you play your cloud clips even if the camera is already unpaired.

• Stream Type (Android) – only for Recorders; choose between Main stream and Sub stream if your account has recorders.

• Show playback filter – when enabled, recorder clips will play an overview in low FPS instead of showing generic icons in Playback list.

• Time – set a time frame and the order of recordings for easy viewing (see 3rd screenshot)

• Go Back to see results. Tap the burger icon at the upper left.

• Image at the left is playing a DVR/NVR clip. It has option to choose the quality of recording you want to watch.

• Image at the right is playing an IP camera clip from the cloud

How to test Wi-Fi password for pairing SWIFI cameras

This step is useful:

• To avoid connecting to 5GHz during pairing

• To check if you are typing the correct SSID and password.

How to forget the network in your mobile device:

My camera is showing itself as offline on my NVR. How to Fix!

The DVR/NVR system assists in making it easier to keep tabs of the live feed and the status of the cams. If your connected Lorex cam is displayed as “offline” on your NVR, it might be because of an issue with the NVR’s internal settings or it might instead be a cable connection issue.

You can fix this by restoring your NVR to factory settings if it’s called for.

Fixing an Offline Lorex Camera with a Direct Connection

Check the port connections if your offline cam is connected directly to the back of the NVR. To do this, switch ports of an offline camera with an online camera.

If the offline cam displays itself as online when plugged into another port and the online cam becomes offline on the other port then it’s a port issue. This indicates that your NVR port settings should be restored to default or factory settings.

LHV/LNR Series DVR/NVR: To restore this NVR model, right-click “Live View” to get to the “Quick Menu”, click the “Main Menu”, click the Setting Icon, click “Setting” then “Default”, and check the menus you wish to restore to default settings.

Click “Apply” to save changes then click “OK” to exit the menu.

ECO Series DVR/NVR: To restore this NVR model, right-click on “Live View” to access the “Quick Menu”. Click the Main Menu icon (a house) the click “Advanced”. Click the “Maintain” tab and then go to “Load Default”.

Select the menus you wish to restore to factory settings or click “All” to restore the entire system. Click “Apply” then “OK” on the Warning Window. Click “OK” to return to the menu and “Exit” to return to the previous menu. Reboot the DVR for the changes to take effect.

LNR200/LNR300 Series NVR: To restore this NVR model, right-click “Live View” then click “Menu”. Afterwards, click “Maintenance”, “Default”, and then “OK” to auto-reboot the NVR and restore the device to its factory settings.
LHA/LNK Series DVR/NVR: To restore this NVR model, go to the Taskbar and click, the Main Menu icon (a house). From there, click the “Advanced”, “Maintenance” option, and the “Maintenance” tab. On the tab, click “Load Default”.

Select the menus you wish to restore to factory settings. Click “Save” to confirm then restart your NVR for changes to apply.

If this doesn’t fix your offline camera this might mean hardware failure. Contact Technical Support for assistance and potential replacement if the cam is under warranty.

Fixing an Offline Lorex Camera with a PoE Switch Connection

If your offline cam is connected to a Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch (that’s also linked to your router) then you might need to reconnect the cam to your NVR.

Reconnect and Disconnect: To reconnect your camera on an LHV/LNR Series NVR, disconnect then reconnect the cam to the switch. Make sure the switch is linked to the same router as your NVR.
Menu Navigation: Now right-click “Live View” to get the “Quick Menu”. Now click “Device Search”. Login the NVR with your login info. The default username and password is in your user manual.

If you’re having trouble with setting up your Swann unit for remote viewing, or the remote viewing was working but has since stopped, here are some simple steps for you to try.

1) Reboot the recorder or camera

Rebooting the device both clears the memory and sets up the basic network parameters of the recorder or camera again. This can help if the router has “lost” the device from the routing table or if the device requires a new local IP address.

2) Reboot the modem and/or network connection devices

There may be an issue with your modem or network connection that is preventing the Swann unit from contacting the internet correctly. Rebooting these devices can correct these issues.

3) Reconnect the network cable and/or try a different one

For some Swann units such as recorders, the network (Ethernet) cable connects your device to your internet connection devices such as a modem or a router. Sometimes the contacts may become loose requiring you to replug the cable for the recorder to start working again. We suggest testing the cable on a different LAN port, located behind your modem/router. If this also fails, then your cable may be defective and may need to be replaced. If you have a spare network cable lying around, try switching the cable to see if it helps.

4) Reset the recorder or camera

For recorders – While this step is rather drastic, it can also be of use where the recorder’s settings have been misconfigured or if you have changed or reconfigured your network or internet hardware. To resolve this, you need to go to the recorder itself and try to log in – this is to ensure that you have the right username and password of your unit.

Once you have it, you may try to add the device again and carefully enter its credentials on the app. In summary, you need to:

Select Pair Device.
Scan its QR Code (either the sticker on top of your unit OR in Menu)
Enter the recorder’s credentials (case sensitive).

You may find this video useful but most importantly, you need to have your recorder’s username and password with you as this is needed when pairing your recorder.

Setup Cloud storage to OS 5 recorders

NOTE: This guide is for the following recorders : DVR-4480G, 4480RN, 4480V, 4580G, 4580RN, 4580V, 4680, 4680RN, 4680A, 4680X, 4680XN, 4685, 4685RN, 4780V, 4980, 5580, 5580A, 5580G, 5580G2, 5580RN, 5580RU, 5680, 5680A, 5680RN, 5680X, 5680XN, NVR-8580, 8580RN, 8780, 8780RN, NVW-650, 800

Swann’s OS 5 recorders now has the feature to save images or recordings through Cloud which might be more accessible to you without being on the unit itself. This can serve as another way to get notified when there’s a movement detected on one of your cameras.

Couple of things to prepare:

Make sure to have a Dropbox account ready. If you don’t have one, visit Dropbox and register first.
Then make sure your recorder is connected to the internet. Not having this will obviously not send the recordings on the Cloud or even give you access online.

Setup

On Swann Security app, go to Menu > Dropbox.
Choose your recorder that you want to setup.
It will open Dropbox app or Dropbox website will open (depends on what you have) – make sure you are logged in to the Dropbox account where pictures or videos will be saved.
Allow – choose this to allow Swann Security to gain access on Dropbox.
COMPLETE! – it will go back to the Swann Security app once you chose Allow. Tap again the recorder and this message (image at the right) should appear.

In case it repeats step 3, just cancel it or go back, then you’ll see this message (image at the right).

Enable Cloud Notification

Go to Menu > Alarm > Detection
Click on Action
Enable Picture to Cloud or Video to Cloud on selected Channels.

…and you’re DONE! Now every time the recorder detects movement, it will then send it to your Dropbox.

Be aware of the following:

Default Dropbox storage has limited storage space

Not all channels can be selected to upload video

Uploads to Dropbox consume upload data, be aware of potential additional charges when using an internet connection with caps/data usage charges

Consider using the Overwrite option to select a timeframe that the Cloud storage uses, to keep the storage from filling up. Note that if the storage fills up before the Overwrite deadline, that it will operate the same as Auto

Be aware that a desktop PC with the Dropbox software installed may download any recordings to the Dropbox folder on that PC

Password Reset for SwannBuzz Account

This article will guide you on how can you reset the password of your SwannBuzz account.

	Open SwannBuzz then tap Forgot Password? below the Password field.
	Enter your registered email address then tap Get New Password.
	Now check your email (even your Spam or Junk folder) to get the temporary password. In the app, tap Return to Sign in
	Get the new password. Go back to SwannBuzz app then log in using your email and new password.
	Once logged in, it will ask you to set a new password. Enter it on both text fields. Tap OK and that will now be your new password.

NOTE: If you didn’t receive an email and you are using a private email similar to .gov or .edu emails, please contact your IT or the domain.

OutbackCam: Why detection angle different to viewing angle

The OutbackCam utilizes a passive infrared motion sensor so that the system is able to run in a stand-by mode. This means the battery life of the system is extended from what would otherwise be hours, into weeks and/or months. When activity is detected by the motion sensor, the camera component that was previously switched off is now activated and takes one or more snapshots. Due to the time difference between when motion is detected and when the camera is able to take its first photo, we have extended the detection angle so that an object moving through the shot will be captured despite the activation delay.

Having said that, passive infrared motion detection is not a flawless technology. You will get times where the sensor detects motion when there is none. When passive infrared motion detectors are used outdoors, there is a higher likelihood of false alarms due to a large number of varying environmental variables such as temperature, wind speed, time of day and lighting conditions.

If you believe this renders the system unusable, you could try using race tape (a.k.a. gaffer tape) to tape either side of the white passive infrared sensor until you have an acceptable detection angle.

How to get the MAC address of a recorder using an Android device?

If you forgot your password but needs to login to your recorder, you most probably need the MAC address of the recorder to enter. We have couple of articles to help you with that HERE but all of those require a computer.

This article will help you get the MAC address of your unit by the use of an Android device and a 3rd party app called Fing.

Once the app is installed, here are some requirements:

You must be at the location where the unit is.
The Android device must be connected to the same router where the recorder is connected.
You must have a monitor and mouse connected to the recorder to input the MAC address later.

Now, open Fing then tap on the Refresh button at the top.

If it asks for permission, select Enable Location Permission.

After that, you will see a list of devices detected on your network. Look for a Device that has Swann or with MAC address that starts with BC:51:FE or EC:71:DB.

How to enable push notification of Swann apps in iOS?

Upon installation or while using the app, it will ask for some permissions to be allowed.

Check the instruction below if you chose Don’t Allow on the initial setup:

Phone Settings

Go to Settings on your phone and select Swann Security.
Enable Notification and Location – as for Location, choosing either Always or While using the app works fine.

App Settings

This applies to Swann Security only; go to the Menu then select Notification. Make sure it is enabled.

How to change the position of the Date and Time display bar on my DVR

You can adjust the position of the OSD from the menu display of the DVR. It has to be done directly from the DVR, using the monitor that is connected either to its VGA or HDMI output.

You simply open the menu of the DVR, go in the menu display, and then, from the camera tab, click on SET next to the OSD Display Position.

Afterward, with the mouse connected to the DVR, left click on the date and time display , hold down the button and drag the display wherever you wish .

The position chosen for the Date and Time Display will be reflected on the live view on your computer screen, should you access the DVR through the Network Interface ( and also on the recorded videos if you have enabled record date from the Display menu of the DVR ).

How do I improve my remote viewing performance?

If you’re experiencing any intermittent connectivity issues when streaming or playing back videos from your recorder, on either the computer software or phone app, then the problem may be related to a limitation with your internet connection speed.

It is important to consider the amount of bandwidth needed when viewing your cameras remotely.
Increasing the video quality of the stream also increases the amount of data needed to upload the video onto your phone or computer.

You can use this article to help you check your speed before continuing to adjust your settings.

The diagram below summarizes the data transfer process of when a video is being uploaded to the server and then downloaded onto the user’s phone.

The recorded video is encrypted and uploaded onto the server (internet)
The file is then downloaded onto the computer or phone.

This is why the download and upload rate is important when streaming videos from a remote location. The higher the quality of the recordings, the more data is needed to be upload onto the server.

There are a couple of things you can change on the recorder to help improve the streaming service.

Reduce the streaming quality, on the phone.
Reduce the sub-stream resolution and bitrate, on the recorder.

Stream on Fluent

This step is necessary for us to use lower bandwidth when streaming the cameras.

You may want to keep in mind that the quality will be lower than expected to lessen intermittent connections and get a smoother experience when viewing the cameras.

These are the things you can do using the software or app.

If you are accessing the recorder using SwannView Link software, click the Play button at the right and choose All channels fluent.
If you are using SwannView Link app, tap Stream and choose Fluent.
If you are accessing the recorder using SwannView Plus software, right-click on the recorder at the left side and choose Set Sub-Stream To All.
If you are accessing the recorder using HomeSafe View software, right click on your recorder at the left, and choose Set Sub Stream to All.
If you are accessing the recorder using HomeSafe View app, tap on the Stream icon and choose Substream.

Changing substream resolution and bitrate

If the previous steps didn’t help, here is another thing we can do and that is changing the resolution and lowering the substream bitrate. Once again, you will see difference in quality after doing this step.

For SwannView Link users

Go to your NVR and access the Menu.
Proceed to RECORDING > Encode.
Change the Encoding Parameters to Substream for us to deal with just Substream settings.
Change the resolution to CIF.
Set the bitrate to the 128kbps.
Click Copy To and select all channels to copy the settings.
Click on Apply to save the settings.

For SwannView Plus users

Go to your NVR and access the Menu.
Proceed to RECORD > Parameters > Substream for us to deal with just Substream settings.
Change the resolution to CIF.
Set the Video Quality to the 128kbps.
Click on Apply to save the settings.
Click Copy To and select all channels to copy the settings.
Click on Apply to save the settings.

For HomeSafe View users

Go to your NVR and access the Menu.
Proceed to RECORD > Substream for us to deal with just Substream settings. Be sure the Channel selected is CH1.
Change the resolution to 352×240 or 352×288.
Set the Video Quality to the 128kbps.
On the Copy section below, first selection should be CH1 and second selection should be All. Click Copy to copy the settings to all channels.
Click on Save to save the settings.
Repeat the steps 1 to 6 but on step 2, proceed to RECORD > MobileStream.

The idea of this procedure is to set each camera to use 128kbps when streaming on substream or fluent.
This also means that if you have:

2x cameras – recommended upload speed of your internet connection is 256kbps
4x cameras – recommended upload speed of your internet connection is 512kbps
8x cameras – recommended upload speed of your internet connection is 1Mbps

General Port Forwarding Guide

The first step to port forwarding is to determine which ports you need to open. You should able to tell by reading the documentation that applies to your Swann product, or by simply having a look through the network configuration menu of your Swann system.

Our systems will use, by default, one or more of the following ports:

80
85
554
8000
9000
18004

The next step is to open those ports. In order to have a port forwarding setup that will keep working, it is important to ensure that the IP address of the DVR inside your Network will remain fixed so that the port forwarding rules are not invalidated.

You can either set a static IP address (Static LAN IP) on the DVR instead of relying on the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) of your router or, if your router permits it, you can reserve a LAN-IP address for the DVR through the settings of your router. Some routers call it a Static IP allocation, some call it an IP reservation.

If you know how to set up a Static IP address on your recorder or if you have already successfully done so, please go ahead directly to the port forwarding step.

A simple way to set up a Static IP address on the recorder is to look at the network information that your router has given to the recorder and then modify it slightly. You will find that in the network configuration menu of your recorder.

1) Take note of the IP address (IPv4) of the DVR when it is on DHCP mode.
2) Take note of the Gateway address (this is the address of your router on the network).

You will notice that there are 4 sets of up to 3 digits per address, separated by 3 dots.
The 3 first sets of digits for the IP address (IPv4) and the gateway are the same. Only the last set of digits is different. It is important that it remains so.

When you choose your Static IP for the DVR, keep the same 3 first sets of digits the same as they were when on DHCP mode. Then choose a number between 200 and 254 for the last set of digits of the IP address. This should in most circumstances ensure that you are not going to create an IP conflict later since it will almost certainly be outside the DHCP pool that the router uses when it automatically assigns addresses to other devices connected to your network.

Keep the Gateway address the same as it was when on DHCP mode. This is basically the address of your router, and we need to preserve this if you want to connect to the DVR from outside the network.

Keep the Subnet Mask exactly as it was on DHCP as well.

The preferred DNS (DNS1 or primary DNS) should be the same as the gateway address.
We normally suggest to set the alternate DNS (DNS2) as 8.8.8.8 (008.008.008.008).
This is a DNS server provided by Google as a free public DNS. This will ensure that your DVR can communicate with the Internet Addresses optimally.

Port Forwarding:

Now that the DVR has a LAN IP that is configured to remain constant, it is time to access the router and to set forwarding rules on it. The ports will be forwarded to the LAN IP address of the DVR.

You should already have the address to access your router through your browser. It is basically the gateway address that you have found on the DVR.

Type that address in the address bar of your Browser and this should bring the login page of your router.
You should know the credentials to access your own router. If you do not, it is possible that it is recorded on a label on the router. If you cannot find your router credentials, contact your router supplier.

All routers are different, so it’s near impossible to include in one single guide how port forwarding is done on thousands of different routers. You should refer to the documentation that came with your router for the exact method for port forwarding on your particular router.

If you are unable to find the instructions for your router, or you are unable to configure the ports, please contact your router supplier for more information.

After having applied the port forwarding rules on your router, you should check that the ports have been correctly opened.

To see if your ports are already open, we advise you to visit a website such as www.canyouseeme.org from a computer that is connected to the same network as your recorder.

You can use the port checker tool of that site to check whether or not your ports are open.
The IP address displayed on this website is the one provided to your router by your Internet Service Provider (WAN IP).

Upon clicking test port, it will either say ‘success’ or will inform you that the tested port is not yet accessible.

If your ports are already open, you can skip a bit of text and go straight to the remote access section.

If the ports are still closed, keep in mind that many routers need to be restarted before new settings start working. Many router have a restart or reboot button in their maintenance or system page. If you cannot find it you can switch it off and switch it back on . Most routers have a on/off switch. If yours do, it is best to use it. Otherwise, you might want to resort to unplugging its power cord and then reconnecting it a few seconds later.

Give it a few minutes to restart and then test once more whether the ports are opened.

If the ports are still closed, then you may have a complex network configuration, and you will need to contact your router supplier for support.

Remote Access:

Once all the ports are open, you should already be able to access the DVR remotely .
However, keep in mind that many Internet Providers give their customer a Dynamic IP address.
This means that your IP address might sometime change , sometimes sooner than later.

If your Public IP is a dynamic IP or If you are unsure whether your Public IP is static or dynamic, we advise to set up a DDNS address first. Go straight to the DDNS setup section.

If your know that your Public IP address is Static (you may want to call your ISP to verify) then you are ready to access the System remotely.

Computer access with a browser:

If your Swann Product has a Web port or a HTTP port, you should be able to access it remotely through your Web Browser with an address in the following format:

http://PublicIP:webportnumber

The Public IP is the IP address given to your Internet Connection by your Internet Service Provider.
You can see that address on that status page of your Router or you can also see it from sites such as www.canyouseeme.org or www.whatismyip.com if you access the site from a computer connected to the same router as the Swann recorder.

For example, if the http port number is 85 and the Public IP is 99.99.99.99, you could access your system through a browser with that address: http://99.99.99.99:85

(Note that Internet Explorer may be the only browser supported depending on the product that you have)

Computer Access with the software:

To access the Swann Product with the computer software that would have come with your product (if there was any), you will typically need to use the server port which more often than anything will either be 8000 or 9000.

For example, if the server port is 9000, you would put the following in the login screen of the software:

Address: 99.99.99.99
Port: 9000
user: admin (by default)
password : the admin password of the recorder

Computer Access with a smartphone app:

Most of our Swann systems have mobile access capability. Some of the older models are not equipped with this feature, or support phones that are no longer current.

First you must ensure that your Swann system supports mobile access and if so, which app you need to use.
You also need to know what port you will need to use.

See from the documentation whether you need to use the server port or a special mobile port such as 18004 on some systems.

Typically the port to use for mobile access is either 8000 or 9000.
Only on rare instance would you be able to use a web port to access the Swann device with a mobile app.

You will typically enter the following information in the device setting page of the app.

Device Name : choose_any_name_you_like
Address/ Host /Server: Address: 99.99.99.99
Port: 9000
user: admin (by default)
password : the admin password of the recorder
Channels: number of channels on your recorder (this is sometimes not entered, but automatic after saving the information)

DDNS Setup

If the IP is to change and you then do not know what new IP address the Network Infrastructure of your ISP has assigned your Internet connection, then you will then be unable to access your system remotely until you find out what new address you have. Again, you could find the new address from websites such as www.canyouseeme.org or www.whatismyip.com but this is not best way to go . If you have a Dynamic IP address, we recommend you to set up a DDNS Domain Name. Both the Domain Name and the Public IP address are considered to be an Internet address. While the principles of DDNS are quite complex, one can make use of it quite easily. It is hardly more complex than browsing the World Wide Web from your personal computer everyday.

You can make it so your Public IP address has a domain name linked to it. The DDNS services provided by www.dyn.com are easy to use, inexpensive and are widely supported by a number of routers. Please visit their site for more information on setting up a DDNS account.

How to access the System Remotely with a DDNS address :

Computer access with a browser:

(Internet Explorer may be the only browser supported depending on which product you have.)

If your Swann Product has a Web port or a HTTP port, you should be able to access it remotely through your Web Browser with an address using the following format:

Problem -1

Swann Camera Not Recording Motion

1. Lens is blocked

The desired view could be blocked from the camera’s line of sight by objects.

Solution

Examine the area around the camera and remove any potential obstructions. If that isn’t the case, try relocating the camera to a more open space where there aren’t many things blocking the view.

2. Low-Traffic Area

There may be little to no movement seen to the camera if the motion sensor only functions sometimes.

Solution

The best results will be obtained by moving the camera to an area with plenty of traffic.

3. Motion Sensor Malfunction

Clean the lens of the motion sensor if it does not respond to the motion that is right in front of the camera lens.

Solution

Examine the motion sensor for any kind of damage if it is still not responding. If there has been damage, replacement or repair may be required.

4. The Internet Connection Is Not Stable

The video upload will fail if the Internet connection drops while the file is still in the process of being uploaded.

Solution

To improve the connection, you can try to:
Test your internet connection via speedtest.net
Connect the camera to a stronger Wi-Fi signal
If you find any issue with your internet connection, please contact your service provider to find out the root cause

The Camera Runs Out Of Memory

When your device is running out of memory, it will record shorter videos.

Solution

Restart your device by reinstalling Swann.

Open the ‘System Set’ menu and select the Time/Date. Confirm that the time and date is set correctly. Under the ‘Record Set’ menu and set ‘Over Write’ to ‘Yes’. Remember that the DVR will not record motion if the hard drive is full.

6. The Camera Moves

If you turn on “Pause Detection when moving”, swann will stop recording videos when the Camera device moves.

Solution

You can disable this setting from your Camera device.

Problem -2

Not turning on is a Swann security camera

1. The Wi-Fi Connection Is Not Successful

Solution

Check your router and confirm that your Wi-Fi password is accurate to ensure that the connection is successful. Reset the router and try again when it has come back online if the camera is still having trouble connecting to Wi-Fi.

2. There Are No Lights Indicating Power

Solution

Press the power button to restart the camera, then wait around 5 seconds before hitting it once again. Press the back-mounted reset button to restart the camera (use a pin to press it).

Camera Quality Is Grainy

1. Camera Lens is Dirty

Solution

Use a clean cloth and a mild cleaning agent if the camera’s lens is filthy. Apply a little quantity of cleaning solution on the cloth, then gently wipe the lens in circular movements to remove any impurities. Dry off the solution, then switch on the camera and start recording once more.

2. Whitewashed Image

Solution

A whitewash might be to blame if the image quality appears white or washed out. When intense light is shone through the camera lens and obscures the scene, whitewash might happen. If there is any surrounding illumination, check it and adjust your cameras or turn down the surrounding lights.

Swann Not Recording At Night

1. Lighting

Solution

The receptors in a camera can be harmed by bright lights that are too near to the lens or that are shining straight into it. Turn off any outside lighting that can affect the operation of the night vision system. If the problem persists, inspect it for damage and replace it as necessary.

2. Infrared LEDs

Solution

It’s possible that the camera’s infrared LEDs aren’t creating enough light for it to capture a clean image. Verify the LEDs are working correctly and look for any broken connections to make any necessary repairs or replacements.

Problem -5

Swann Camera Not Connecting

Solution

Verify your router and that the Wi-Fi password you entered is accurate. Because case-sensitivity applies, it’s possible that you misread a character or capitalized the wrong letter and your Swann camera was unable to connect to your router.

The camera might not be inside the router’s coverage range. To maintain a stable connection, place the router and the camera(s) close to one another.

Reset or restart your router and give it another go if the Wi-Fi connection to the camera is still problematic. It could be an issue with the ISP. Using the advice provided below, you can reset the camera to factory settings if you think it is malfunctioning.

Swann Camera Black Screen

Solution

Some Swann cam customers report dark screens or blank videos while using their cameras at night. If the camera keeps recording and functions normally during the day or if you place a lamp or other light source where it should be recording, it may not have infrared night vision.

Perhaps you just forgot to activate the IR. Check the camera’s settings and turn on the infrared light to fix this. If not, an IR cut filter might not be included in the infrared night vision camera.

Additionally, it can have a broken IR sensor. Depending on the extent of the damage or the remaining time on the item’s warranty, you might need to either have the gadget repaired by a specialist or replaced entirely.

Off-warranty products might require some repair and finagling from third-party repairmen but this means it’s now outside the jurisdiction of Swann.

Problem -7

Swann Playback Not Working

Solution

Tap the “Playback” symbol, then the “Camera” icon, and then enter the start and finish times to playback a video. Search recordings on the recorder by tapping “Start Playback” underneath the calendar.

Videos occasionally have blue lines to indicate they were recorded, but when you try to play them, you receive an “open failed” error message. Inadequate setups, a lack of available storage, damaged video files, and defective DVR components might all be at blame for this.

The most recent software upgrade can possibly be to blame for this. Users of iPhones are the ones most impacted, although Android users are also impacted. If there is an issue, speak to a Swann specialist or think about replacing.

After deleting, go back to the App Store to download and reinstall Swann Security on your iPhone.

Update your iPhone to the latest iOS version available:

Installing the latest iOS version will likely solve the problem if it’s caused by system issues in the older iOS version. Steps: Tap Settings » General » Software Update.

2. IPhone app Unable To Connect to Server or Internet Connection Issues

Reset network settings:

Follow these steps to resolve network connectivity issues on Swann Security app for iPhone:

On your iPhone, Go to “Settings” » “General” » “Reset” » “Reset Network Settings”.
Enter your device passcode.
Then tap the option to confirm Reset Network Settings.
This action will reset your network configurations and restore the default settings. Your Wi-Fi networks and server settings will be deleted.
Turn off your VPN in your Settings Menu:
1. If you use a VPN, it might be the issue. Turn it in the Settings app under “General” » “VPN”.

This guide is intended for customers to reset their Swann recorder when they have forgotten their password.

Acquiring the reset code

The reset code on new recorders is acquired primarily by using the relevant client software on a Windows PC or Mac computers. Other methods exist, but they usually require a level of networking knowledge over what we expect customers need to operate their system.

The reset code itself is a unique 12 character string that is generated by the unique hardware identifier of the network interface of the device, known as the MAC address.

To find your recorder’s reset code, connect the recorder to your router (if you have not yet done so) and install and run the software on your computer.

Using the software

The first time you run HomeSafe View, you will see this screen.

Click on Next. A new window will show up. Click on Add online device located at the upper left.

Once your DVR shows on the list, click it once to see the MAC Address at the right side.

Copy down any MAC address starting with the characters ’00-23-63′ or ‘BC-51-FE’ first, then any others. Replace the dashes (-) with colons (:).

Entering the reset code

You now use what you wrote down in the previous step to initiate a password reset on the recorder. On the Login interface, click Forgot Password.

On the recorder:

The reset code needs to be entered after clicking Forgot Password. Enter it in the Super Password field. Letters are in UPPERCASE with the colons (e.g BC:51:FE:11:22:33).

If the window you see looks similar to the image below, you are in the wizard. The reset code CANNOT be entered in this area. Make sure to setup your new password and click NEXT. You can cancel the rest of the Setup Wizard if you want.

Cancel the wizard then open the right-click menu and select Main Menu (home button) to access the login window.

Once you enter in the “admin” username and reset code, the recorder will reboot. That indicates that the reset is successful and you will be presented with the window to enter a starting password after the recorder has finished rebooting.

Notes

You will need to re-enter a new password every time you reset the password. The reset code CANNOT be used to login to the recorder nor can it be used for remote access.

READ THIS FIRST

V8 NVRs are NVR-8580, 8580RN, 8780, and 8780RN with Software version starting with V8
NVR must have the latest firmware. To check, visit How to do OTA update? first.
Update one camera at a time to decrease the possibility of incomplete updates. Simply retry on the cameras that were incomplete and they should complete on the second attempt.
Check the live feed after each update to confirm if the camera is still working. In the event that you noticed an issue, STOP updating the rest.

Prepare the following:

Computer with internet connection
USB flashdrive (preferably 32GB or below)
Mouse and monitor connected to the NVR

Quick install steps

Download the correct image file:

Download the firmware based on the camera’s model number:
1. NHD-865 (MSB or MSFB) or NHD-866MSD – click HERE to download
2. NHD-885 (MSB or MSFB) or NHD-886MSD – click HERE to download
3. NHD-887 (MSB or MSFB) or NHD-888MSD – click HERE to download
4. NHD-900 (BE or DE) – click HERE to download
Copy the files to a (preferably clean) USB memory stick.

Apply the firmware to the cameras:

Insert the USB memory stick into one of the recorder’s USB ports.
Open the menu on the recorder and proceed to Advanced > Maintain.
In the Maintain tab, click on IP Cam Upgrade button.
On the preparation screen, select the new firmware file (.sw) for each channel from the USB stick.
Once firmware file is specified, choose a Channel where firmware will be applied, then click OK.
When firmware update is completed, you will receive this prompt:
Repeat this step with the old firmware file for any cameras that failed

To check what is your current firmware, access the DVR’s Menu then go to System > Information and look for the Software Version. For a DVR8-5680A, the latest Software Version is v8.1.0-20221223

Before you try the following procedure, read this article first: How to do OTA update?

If you are unable to use the automatic update service to update the recorder, you can use the following procedure to update manually.

Prepare a FAT32 flash drive or USB – it needs to be on FAT32 for it to be read; there is no need for an external HDD as the files are small.
Download the firmware file HERE and save it to your flash drive.
Unplug the Ethernet cable connected to the DVR then reboot.
Insert the flash drive to your DVR.
Access the Menu and go to Advanced > Maintain then click on Upgrade.
Select the file: D2108ST_V210609V210625V210709V211223V211223V211223V211014.sw and click OK.
A confirmation window will appear, click on OK again.
DVR will start to update. Make sure not to unplug the USB or turn off the DVR while it is updating.

To check what is your current firmware, access the NVR’s Menu then go to System > Information and look for the Software Version. For a NVR8-8780, the latest Software Version is v8.1.0-20211020

Swann Security Password Reset All Model

This guide is intended for customers to reset their Swann recorder when they have forgotten their password.

Acquiring the reset code

The reset code itself is a unique 12 character string that is generated by the unique hardware identifier of the network interface of the device, known as the MAC address.

To find your recorder’s reset code, connect the recorder to your router (if you have not yet done so) and install and run the software on your computer.

If you are using a Windows computer and haven’t installed HomeSafe View yet, follow this article instead:

Once you have HomeSafe View software open, proceed below

Using the software

The first time you run HomeSafe View, you will see this screen.

Click on Next. A new window will show up. Click on Add online device located at the upper left.

Once you’re DVR shows on the list, click it once to see the MAC Address at the right side.

Copy down any MAC address starting with the characters ’00-23-63′ or ‘BC-51-FE’ first, then any others. Replace the dashes (-) with colons (:).

Entering the reset code

You now use what you wrote down in the previous step to initiate a password reset on the recorder. On the Login interface, click Forgot Password.

On the recorder:

The reset code needs to be entered after clicking Forgot Password. Enter it in the Super Password field. Letters are in UPPERCASE with the colons (e.g BC:51:FE:11:22:33).

Cancel the wizard then open the right-click menu and select Main Menu (home button) to access the login window.

The reset code on new recorders is acquired primarily by using the relevant client software on a computer. Other methods exist, but they usually require a level of networking knowledge over what we expect customers need to operate their system.

The reset code itself is a unique 12 character string that is generated by the unique hardware identifier of the network interface of the device, known as the MAC address.

Installing the software

Download the software

Download Swann Security software on your Windows computer and install it.

If this prompt appears, click More Info then Run Anyway then continue with the installation.

Once installed, open the Swann Security program and follow the steps below:

Set a password – to protect you from anyone who wants to view your unit on your computer.
Set a security question – will be used when you forgot the password your set.
Login – just type in the password you’ve set earlier. Username is admin.
Search for device
1. Click the Home icon (top-left) then choose Device Management
2. Click the Auto Search (top) to get the MAC address of your recorder. Copy down any MAC address starting with the characters ’00-23-63′ or ‘BC-51-FE’ first, then any others. Replace the dashes (-) with colons (:).

Entering the reset code

You now use what you wrote down in the previous step to initiate a password reset on the recorder. On the Login interface, click Forgot Password.

On the recorder:

The reset code needs to be entered after clicking Forgot Password. Enter it in the Recovery field. Letters are in UPPERCASE with the colons (e.g BC:51:FE:11:22:33).

Click Unlock once done. A message will appear on-screen stating that your password has been reset. Click OK to continue.

Once this window appears, enter your preferred password (minimum of 6 characters).

You must enter an email address below so the next time you need to reset your password, the MAC address will be sent to your email; otherwise, you can write down your MAC address somewhere safe.

Click FINISH once done.

Password Reset for Swann Security Account

This article will guide you on how can you reset the password of your Swann Security account.

Open Swann Security then tap Forgot Password? below the Sign In button.

Enter your registered email address and tap Reset Password.

Now check your email (even your Spam or Junk folder) and click the link provided.

It will open this webpage and you must then enter your new password then select Submit.

How to reset the password of WHD-PTCAM?

To reset the password of the camera, you need to reset the camera itself.

While the power is connected, press and hold the reset button (located at the right side of the camera) using the reset tool (looks similar to a SIM ejector tool) for 10 seconds.

NOTE: Resetting the camera will lose all settings like motion detection, Wi-Fi details, and password. That means you need to do the setup again.

SwannView Plus Password Reset

Connect the DVR/NVR to a router or modem

Grab the Ethernet cable that came with the unit and connect one end to your DVR/NVR.
Then connect the other end of the cable to your router or modem.

Installing SwannView Plus or iVMS to your computer

Grab your computer (Windows or Mac) and install SwannView Plus. Click the link below for the download the latest version.
1. SwannView Plus for Windows
2. iVMS-4200 (v2.5.1.7) for Mac
Also, make sure your computer is connected to the same router or modem where the DVR is.
Once everything is done, open the SwannView Plus or iVMS.

Getting the MAC Address

Go to Device Management.
1. If you cannot see this page, click on Tool > Device Management at the top instead.
Click Show Online Devices.
Select your DVR/NVR by clicking at it once.
Check the software version of the DVR. If the unit has a firmware:
1. Build 160801 or later: Take note of the MAC address and follow the next step.
2. Build 160101 to above: MAC address first then follow the next step, if it fails please call our Technical Support line.
3. Build before 160101: Please call our Technical Support line.

Resetting the password

Go back to your DVR/NVR and pull up the login page again by accessing the MENU.
Type the MAC address you got from the software using lowercase, no dash, and no colons.
e.g. bc51fe810d61
Click on OK once you’re done.
The DVR will then reboot and display the Activation page.
You are then required to enter a new password that you prefer. Please take note of the MAC address you got in case you need to reset the password again; and of course your new password too. Click on OK once you’re done.

SwannView Link Password Reset

This guide is intended for customers to reset their Swann recorder when they have forgotten their password. This guide is for the model series 1580 rev.1*, 4550 rev.1*, 4750, 7300 & 7400 which is up to date. If your recorder is not up to date, this method may not work and you will need to call Swann Tech Support and request assistance from an agent.

Entering the reset code

You now use what you wrote down in the previous step to initiate a password reset on the recorder. On the System Login, click Forgot Password.

On the recorder:

The reset code needs to be entered after clicking Forgot Password. Enter it in the Super Password field. Letters are in UPPERCASE without the colons (e.g EC71DB5C4AF5).

If the window you see looks similar to the image below, you are in the wizard. The reset code CANNOT be entered in this area. Make sure to setup your new password and click NEXT. You can cancel the rest of the Setup Wizard if you want.

Cancel the wizard then open the right-click menu and select Main Menu (home button) to access the login window.

DVRx-1500/1525/1550/1575/4350/4500/8050/8075 Password Reset via generate code

Copy the Device Serial No. and send an email to tech@swann.com to get the generated code.

Entering the reset code

Once we get the details. We will email you back with 3 different codes (case sensitive). Each code was created depending on the current date of your DVR live view. (The date showing on the live view on the monitor).

Once you receive the 3 codes. Please click on Forgot Password located at the lower right.

A window will pop up called Restore Default Password.

Type a generated code on the Security Code text box. Please keep in mind that it is case sensitive.

If the window you see doesn’t look similar to this, then you can skip the rest of the steps and start following the article below instead:

How to Reset H.264 DVR NVR (forgotpassword)

Did you lose your H.264 DVR password? Or did you forget the password of your H.264 Network DVR? If you’ve already landed on this page, it means retrieving the password is necessary for you. Well, you’re at the right place, my old friend.

In this guide, we will show how to reset the password for generic H.264 DVRs, H.264 Network DVRs, or even NVRs. There are a few methods for resetting an H.264 DVR, follow them one by one until you get your problem solved. If not, drop a comment and we’ll try to help you out.

How to Reset Password for H.264 DVR

First of all, let’s clarify what H.264 Network DVRs are. These H.264 DVRs are a generic type of video recorders manufactured by thousands of manufacturers all over the world and are marketed in many brand names (usually when the DVR starts up it will show up there the H.264 logo).

Since there are thousands of DVR brands on the market and the way to reset the password can vary from one model to another.

The first step of doing a password reset on an H.264 DVR is to consult the equipment’s manual or to contact the DVR’s a dealer/reseller, most of the resellers (TVT, Dahua, Lorex, Swan, FLIR, Samsung, Panasonic, Axis, Uniview, Foscam, Zmodo) support their products.

However, sometimes you have an H.264 DVR with an unknown brand and there’s no manual available or no technical support team. If you have lost the password for your non-branded / generic H.264 DVR, you could try the password reset methods shown in this guide.

Below are listed the techniques and the procedures we will deploy to reset the password for H.264 DVR. As you can see, there are four basic password procedures that work on most H.264 DVRs.

Try to use the DVR factory default password
Use H.264 DVR master password generator
Remove the battery to reset the password
Use a jumper to reset the passwords
Contact the manufacturer

1. Try to use DVR factory default password

Trying to use the DVR’s default password is the first thing for an H.264 DVR reset password recovery procedure. It happens a lot that the original DVR’s password has never been changed. Check the DVR manufacturer’s manual or website for the factory/default password.

Take a look at the table below with the DVR default password for different manufacturers. Perhaps your DVR is listed there (the empty space on the password means you need to leave the password box empty). Also, you can find more default passwords on this link.

2. H.264 DVR Master Password Generator

Many CCTV manufacturers provide master password generators to allow administrators access to their CCTV products. Usually, they use the current date of the security system in order to generate a super password. Others may use the serial number of the equipment.

A lot of the recorders on the market are generic DVRs manufactured in China and in many cases re-branded by third-party companies. Y

You can tell by the user interface which is exactly the same across many brands such as HD iDVR, Everfocus, Everest, Sansco, Luxvision 5716, 6008T-EL, HA-1648, CP-Plus, Citrox, BB-4CH, Yoko, TVT, Super Live Pro DVRs, Kare, XVIM, and other generic brands simply named “H.264 network”, “H.264 DVR”, etc.

If your DVR has a login screen similar to the one shown below, then most likely it’s an H.264 generic DVR. Keep in mind that the user’s interface color scheme may have been further modified by the re-branding company.

You need to find out what’s the date on your security system DVR. Run the machine and simply check the timestamp on the screen. The date is used by the password generators to create a unique super password. So, take a look at the monitor and note the timestamp (as shown below).

Note: DVR master password generators will work only with specific DVR models.

HiSilicon DVR password generator

If your DVR runs on a chip manufactured by Hisilicon, then you can check the Hisilicon password generator to get a working password for your recorder. This generator works with these models: Hi3511, Hi3512, Hi3515, Hi3520, Hi3531, Hi3532, Hi3521, Hi3520A, Hi3535, Hi3520D, Hi3530A, Hi3535A.

How to use the HiSilicon H.264 DVR password generator?

The image below shows an example of how to use this password generator software. Enter the year, month, and day (format YYYYMMDD) that you see on your DVR’s timestamp. Let’s say the date on your screen is 02/17/2020 you have to type: 20200117.

Below is an example of the password generated by the software that should be entered into the DVR, it is unique and valid only for that date (and day).

As we mentioned, this type of password generator app works with DVR models that use a chipset manufactured by Hisilicon (even though the brand name of the DVR may be different). It’s worth giving it a shot.

Dahua DVR password generator

How to use the Dahua DVR password generator

Below is an example of using the Dahua password generator, type the year, month, and day (format YYYYMMDD) you see on the DVR’s timestamp.

H.264 DVR password generator

In many cases, the DVR has an unknown brand. This is a common thing since many Chinese manufacturers sell their DVRs or cameras to third-party companies which they resell under local not-so-known brands or simply as H.264 DVR. In itself, H.264 is not really a brand but just the name of the compression algorithm. You can download the generic H.264 password generator at this link.

How to use the H.264 DVR password generator

3. Remove the battery to reset the DVR

A few H.264 DVRs can be reset by another technique: removing the battery from the motherboard. By doing that, the clock of the system will be reset and the DVR will go back to factory defaults and you can log in by using the default username and password.

How long do you need to have the battery removed? It depends on the DVR’s model number. Usually, it takes 10 minutes for the card to be discharged. So, keep the battery out until the DVR’s internal clock has gone to default. Remove the battery from the DVR as illustrated below.

When the clock runs out of the battery, the timestamp on the recorder goes to 01/010/2000 and you either can try the default password or use the DVR password generator to create a new password based on this date.

Most likely the default username will be admin and password: empty, 12345, or 123456. For old Dahua DVRs, the password can be “000000”.

4. DVR reset using a jumper

In order to perform this kind of reset, you need to open up the cover of your DVR and find the reset pins on the motherboard. The H.264 DVRs that have these pins are for example old Dahua DVRs, old TVT DVRs, Swann DVR models, etc.

An example is shown below can be reset by closing the two contacts (pins) for 3 minutes. Once you close the circuit (via the jumper), the H.264 DVR will automatically reboot and come back online without any password or just using the default one. Try to log in.

5. Contact the manufacturer

If you tried all the methods explained above but you still can’t reset the password, then as the last option you should contact the manufacturer or seller and ask for technical support. First, locate the model of the unit, google it and see who is the original seller or manufacturer.

Then, contact them via email or phone and provide the model number and serial code. Usually, they help their customers and you may get your problems solved. If you don’t have any receipt, claim that the system was passed to you by the previous owner. They may ask you for an ID which you should provide.
