It is a common problem for security cameras to turn the whole image pink. This issue, in particular, turns the footage to pink! It might seem crazy, but it could happen.

Keep in mind that this can be sudden and creates a pink hue in the picture. In addition, this affects your footage because it degrades the resolution and quality, making your camera less useful in keeping you secure.

Various factors can take an effect on the pink image. For example, this error can come from lousy software or firmware, wrong settings, and environmental issues.

Despite all of these issues, the leading cause is usually a malfunctioning infrared light filter that has either been broken or gotten stuck.

The Infrared filter is a color filter that blocks infrared lighting. During the daytime, the image is captured, and the IR Cut Filter is laid on top of the sensor. This prevents the infrared light to her in the image sensor.

Remember that the IR Cut Filter automatically turns on and off to filter invisible light. This means they can stuck in the night mode and create a pink screen or sometimes even green!

There are various ways to fix the issue when a security camera shows a pink image. Let’s go over some of the more common ones.

Resetting the whole camera

Unplug the camera and wait a couple of seconds to a minute before plugging it back in. If you are using a battery-operated camera or rechargeable camera, you can restart it through the app or by removing the battery.

This might help set everything back in place, but it might not fix the entire issue.

To do this, you will need to manually turn off the IR LED board through the settings or by physically opening the camera and finding the cable to disconnect.

After a few seconds, you should turn it back on. To find more in-depth explanations for this, you can search on the camera’s manual or online.

It might be easier to check the settings first before you rip open your camera. A few brands have the feature to turn it off and on in the settings. Ensure that if you are using the settings to reset the IR LED Board, turn it on and off a couple of times.

Magnetic solution

To remove a locked IR Cut Filter, you can use a strong magnet and perform a sweeping motion on top of the lens of the camera.

Unsticking the IR filter will make the picture go back to normal, especially since the filter causes many of the issues, including pink, green, or even black and white imaging.

It is crucial to keep the camera clean, which might be what is keeping the IR LED filter stuck in place. You can do this by opening the camera and removing any dirt.

Remember to close the lid correctly to keep any dirt from entering and to keep and water from condensing the lens. To keep it from condensing, you can also use gel bags that collect any humidity.

Check the temperature

Since it is a movable part, it is likely to get stuck. However, this means that if a camera is in a cold environment, the filter can freeze and not work.

Moreover, check that your camera is supposed to be used outside and how much heat and cold it can take. Every camera is different, so make sure your camera can stay outside all winter long.

Ensure that the camera settings are not modified in any way that would alter the color of the image. You can do so by checking the Image Settings and making sure you did not apply a pink overlay on the image.

Lastly, you can also reset the image settings by clicking a default button. This should make the security camera pink image issue disappear.

Factory resetting

There is a big difference between resetting and factory resetting a camera. When you reset a camera, the settings stay the same. However, when the camera is factory resetted, it will erase all the settings you have placed.

Suppose any image settings are incorrectly chosen by factory resetting. In that case, they will return to normal, and it can fix any issues, especially if the pink image is happening because of a software-related problem.

Lastly, the IR Cut Filter might be permanently stuck or broken. Therefore, you will have to replace the IR board. To find one, you might have to search online for the specific one for the camera brand you own.

It is likely that it will not run very expensive. Additionally, it is simple to replace; therefore, you might be able to do it yourself quickly.

Contact the company

Suppose you have tried all of the above and are still hopeless to discover whether your camera has audio features.

In that case, you can reach out to the company. Nothing is better than getting the words straight from the horse’s mouth.

It is vital to purchase from big brands and companies that are most likely to help, whether through an online chat or a phone call.

After figuring out what kind of camera you have, they will be able to tell you whether or not there is some specific way to fix it.

They can offer you a new one in some cases, or they can give you a refund, and maybe even a discount towards another camera.

If you cannot fix it at all, you can always buy a new one as many cameras nowadays are very affordable and easy to purchase.

In this guide, we will show how to reset the password for generic H.264 DVRs, H.264 Network DVRs, or even NVRs. There are a few methods for resetting an H.264 DVR, follow them one by one until you get your problem solved. If not, drop a comment and we’ll try to help you out.

How to Reset Password for H.264 DVR

First of all, let’s clarify what H.264 Network DVRs are. These H.264 DVRs are a generic type of video recorders manufactured by thousands of manufacturers all over the world and are marketed in many brand names (usually when the DVR starts up it will show up there the H.264 logo).

Since there are thousands of DVR brands on the market and the way to reset the password can vary from one model to another.

The first step of doing a password reset on an H.264 DVR is to consult the equipment’s manual or to contact the DVR’s a dealer/reseller, most of the resellers (TVT, Dahua, Lorex, Swan, FLIR, Samsung, Panasonic, Axis, Uniview, Foscam, Zmodo) support their products.

However, sometimes you have an H.264 DVR with an unknown brand and there’s no manual available or no technical support team. If you have lost the password for your non-branded / generic H.264 DVR, you could try the password reset methods shown in this guide.

Below are listed the techniques and the procedures we will deploy to reset the password for H.264 DVR. As you can see, there are four basic password procedures that work on most H.264 DVRs.

1. Try to use the DVR factory default password
2. Use H.264 DVR master password generator
3. Remove the battery to reset the password
4. Use a jumper to reset the passwords
5. Contact the manufacturer

1. Try to use DVR factory default password

Trying to use the DVR’s default password is the first thing for an H.264 DVR reset password recovery procedure. It happens a lot that the original DVR’s password has never been changed. Check the DVR manufacturer’s manual or website for the factory/default password.

Take a look at the table below with the DVR default password for different manufacturers. Perhaps your DVR is listed there (the empty space on the password means you need to leave the password box empty). Also, you can find more default passwords on this link.

2. H.264 DVR Master Password Generator

Many CCTV manufacturers provide master password generators to allow administrators access to their CCTV products. Usually, they use the current date of the security system in order to generate a super password. Others may use the serial number of the equipment.

A lot of the recorders on the market are generic DVRs manufactured in China and in many cases re-branded by third-party companies. Y

You can tell by the user interface which is exactly the same across many brands such as HD iDVR, Everfocus, Everest, Sansco, Luxvision 5716, 6008T-EL, HA-1648, CP-Plus, Citrox, BB-4CH, Yoko, TVT, Super Live Pro DVRs,  Kare, XVIM, and other generic brands simply named “H.264 network”, “H.264 DVR”, etc.

If your DVR has a login screen similar to the one shown below, then most likely it’s an H.264 generic DVR. Keep in mind that the user’s interface color scheme may have been further modified by the re-branding company.

You need to find out what’s the date on your security system DVR. Run the machine and simply check the timestamp on the screen. The date is used by the password generators to create a unique super password. So, take a look at the monitor and note the timestamp (as shown below).

Note: DVR master password generators will work only with specific DVR models.

HiSilicon DVR password generator

If your DVR runs on a chip manufactured by Hisilicon, then you can check the Hisilicon password generator to get a working password for your recorder. This generator works with these models: Hi3511, Hi3512, Hi3515, Hi3520, Hi3531, Hi3532, Hi3521, Hi3520A, Hi3535, Hi3520D, Hi3530A, Hi3535A.

On the internet, you can find 3 versions of the Hisilicon H.264 DVR password generator that work with the models mentioned above. Try all of them one by one until you’re able to reset the password. Below are the links to download the DVR password generators.

How to use the HiSilicon H.264 DVR password generator?

The image below shows an example of how to use this password generator software. Enter the year, month, and day (format YYYYMMDD) that you see on your DVR’s timestamp. Let’s say the date on your screen is 02/17/2020 you have to type: 20200117.

Below is an example of the password generated by the software that should be entered into the DVR, it is unique and valid only for that date (and day).

As we mentioned, this type of password generator app works with DVR models that use a chipset manufactured by Hisilicon (even though the brand name of the DVR may be different). It’s worth giving it a shot.

Dahua DVR password generator

Dahua is a worldwide manufacturer and in many cases, they sell their equipment under other local brands. Download and test it (refer to this article “Dahua Daily Password Generator” for more details). Click here to download the Dahua DVR password generator.

How to use the Dahua DVR password generator

Below is an example of using the Dahua password generator, type the year, month, and day (format YYYYMMDD) you see on the DVR’s timestamp.

H.264 DVR password generator

In many cases, the DVR has an unknown brand. This is a common thing since many Chinese manufacturers sell their DVRs or cameras to third-party companies which they resell under local not-so-known brands or simply as H.264 DVR. In itself, H.264 is not really a brand but just the name of the compression algorithm. You can download the generic H.264 password generator at this link.

How to use the H.264 DVR password generator

The image below shows an example of using the H.264 password generator. You have to enter the date shown up on your DVR’s timestamp.

Excel DVR password generator

This Excel spreadsheet has a built-in formula that can be used to generate super passwords for the H.264 DVRs. It works the same way as the previous methods, you need to enter the date and the tool will generate a master password. Click here to download the Excel H.264 DVR password generator.

3. Remove the battery to reset the DVR

A few H.264 DVRs can be reset by another technique: removing the battery from the motherboard. By doing that, the clock of the system will be reset and the DVR will go back to factory defaults and you can log in by using the default username and password.

How long do you need to have the battery removed? It depends on the DVR’s model number. Usually, it takes 10 minutes for the card to be discharged. So, keep the battery out until the DVR’s internal clock has gone to default. Remove the battery from the DVR as illustrated below.

When the clock runs out of the battery, the timestamp on the recorder goes to 01/010/2000 and you either can try the default password or use the DVR password generator to create a new password based on this date.

Most likely the default username will be admin and password: empty, 12345, or 123456. For old Dahua DVRs, the password can be “000000”.

4. DVR reset using a jumper

In order to perform this kind of reset, you need to open up the cover of your DVR and find the reset pins on the motherboard.  The H.264 DVRs that have these pins are for example old Dahua DVRs, old TVT DVRs, Swann DVR models, etc.

An example is shown below can be reset by closing the two contacts (pins) for 3 minutes. Once you close the circuit (via the jumper), the H.264 DVR will automatically reboot and come back online without any password or just using the default one. Try to log in.

5. Contact the manufacturer

If you tried all the methods explained above but you still can’t reset the password, then as the last option you should contact the manufacturer or seller and ask for technical support. First, locate the model of the unit, google it and see who is the original seller or manufacturer.

Then, contact them via email or phone and provide the model number and serial code. Usually, they help their customers and you may get your problems solved. If you don’t have any receipt, claim that the system was passed to you by the previous owner. They may ask you for an ID which you should provide.

Basically, to reset a Dahua DVR/NVR and recover the admin password, you need to either to do a hard reset on the motherboard or try default password or use a password generator to create a temporary password based on the DVR’s date (or serial number). Below we are going to detail each password reset methods.

Method 1. Reset the password by pressing the reset button

The success of this method depends on the DVR/NVR model you have, some of them come with a reset button that can be found on the motherboard. Open up your recorder to check if there’s any reset button on the board. Take a look at the following pictures. The reset button should be a black circle and you’ll be able to press it.

Note that in this DVR/NVR model the reset push button is located at the corner of the motherboard.

In this model, the reset button is located close to the processor. If you can’t find any reset button on your recorder, then your recorder doesn’t have one and you need to try the other methods. Dahua started to manufacture built-in reset button on the motherboard by late 2017. Earlier models don’t have a physical reset button.

If you are able to locate the reset button, follow this procedure to reset the Dahua DVR/NVR to factory default:

1. Power off the DVR/NVR.
2. Press and hold the reset push button.
3. Power on the DVRNVR.
4. Keep the reset push button pressed for 30 seconds.
5. After you see the startup wizard on the screen, create a new password.

Make sure you have a monitor connected to the DVR. The power cable must be disconnected before starting the procedure (step 1) then connect the cable while holding the reset button. You also can use the on/off switch at the back of the Dahua DVR/NVR (if there’s one).

Hold the reset button pressed for 30 seconds or until you see the startup wizard on the screen. Once the reset is done, the DVR/NVR will come back to factory default settings and you can create a new password.

We recommend to create a strong password using a combination of letters, numbers and symbols. Also create the pattern and fill out the security questions (write them down in case you lose the password again).

Method 2. Try Dahua default passwords

You never know but this may be the solution of your problem. Try all the dafault accounts listed below and see if any of them works. If they work, you’re all set.

If you’re able to login, you can create a new account or modify the password. If this method doesn’t work or the account that works has guest authority only, you can try the next method.

Method 3. Use Dahua daily password generator

For some of Dahua DVR/NVR, there’s a master password generator. You need to enter the current date showing up on the timestamp of the recorder and generate a password. Be careful, the generator will generate a password based on the date you input, if you put the wrong date the generated password will be incorrect.

Type the year, month and day (YYYYMMDD) into the Dahua password generator, and you will get a temporary password (valid for that date only). A sample is shown below.

After generating the temporary password use it to login into your DVR/NVR and once you’re in you can modify the password. Use the temporary password as the old password.

Method 4. Try the the CCTV Super Password generator

This is another type of master password generator that works for certain recorders. Give it a shot and hopefully it will work for you. Download the CCTV Super Password app on Play Store only (Android phones), it’s not available for iPhone but you can try the online version (linked below).

There are two Dahua password generators, one based on the date, the other on based on the serial number. Try both until you get a hit.

CCTV Super Password online (for Dahua)

Type in the date from the timestamp (on the monitor/TV) or the serial number which can be found on the sticker/label underneath the recorder. The tool will generate a super password.
The generated super password is temporary and is meant to be used one time only, just to get access to your Dahua DVR/NVR. Once logged in, you need to modify the password, use the temporary password as the old one.

Method 5. Reset by removing the battery

Basically if you remove the battery from the motherboard, the clock on the system will be reset and you can use a known master password to access the Dahua DVR/NVR. Remove the battery and wait a little bit (usually 2 minutes) to have the DVR’s clock reset.

The DVR’s date/time stamp usually comes back to 01/01/2000 (default one for this manufacturer). Once you see this timestamp on the screen, try using the following username and password combination: admin (as username) and 668648 (as password) or admin (as username) and 000000000000 (as password).

Method 6. Call your dealer/seller

If you have purchased the Dahua DVR/NVR from a local Dahua dealer/store or reseller, give them a call and ask for help to reset the password. Most of the time, this is the fastest and the easiest way to reset the your DVR or NVR.
