After Adding to exacqVision

exacqVision defaults to using the Hanwha default H.264 stream (profile 2) but can be changed to H.265. This changes exacqVision to utilize the default H.265 stream on the camera (profile3).

NOTE: It is not possible to set h.265 via exacqVision on a fisheye camera.
You need to log in to the camera interface and manually change the FISHEYE
profile to H.265.

To change the default stream to H.265:

1.Navigate to the exacqVision Camera Settings page and click the Recording tab.
In the Rate Control field, the default is Constant Quality which equates to Variable Bit Rate in Hanwha cameras.

The Quality slider default of 2 sets a low cap.
1 = minimum VBR cap for that stream
10 = maximum VBR cap for that stream
For 4MP+ resolution cameras it is beneficial to increase the quality to 3 or 4; otherwise, the video may be compressed too much thus decreasing quality.

2.If needed, select a stream to add from the Multistreaming dropdown menu and click Add Stream.

NOTE: With high-resolution cameras, it is best practice to create lower
resolution live viewing streams to save on decoding and bandwidth. These
streams can be added in exacqVision on the Camera Settings page.

3.Click the Motion tab to edit motion on the camera (although exacqVision does not have all the options available that are in the Hanwha cameras).

NOTE: It is possible to add motion, including windows, without adding\
multiple points to create unique shapes.

4.Click the Analytics tab to see several options for displaying and recording data.

5.If the camera is a fisheye, click the Digital PTZ/Fisheye tab to configure the proper dewarp code.
a. Select Immervision from the first dropdown menu.

b. Select the proper code from the second dropdown menu.

4.Click the Paper () icon to view the raw metadata.

A pane to the right of the video will appear with the raw data of that time.

5.Check the Show Filters checkbox to filter data.

6.In the pane to the left of the video, check the checkboxes to filter.

7. Click Save then click the Search button again.

8.If certain overlays for the metadata need to be hidden, click the Green () icon and select which overlays should be hidden.

NOTE: Sometimes the status in Genetec sticks on Bad logon. To resolve this
issue, click Clear All at the bottom of Unit enrollment and add the camera
again. The camera has now been added to Genetec Security Center 5.9.

Configuring a Fisheye Camera

The following additional steps are required if the camera has a fisheye lens:

1.From the Video tab, select the newly added camera under Archiver then click Hardware and edit the Lens type.

2.Select your Camera position from the dropdown menu.

NOTE: Genetec may not automatically pick the correct lens type and
could fail to calibrate.

3.Select the correct Lens Type from the dropdown menu.

4.Click Ok and Apply at the bottom of the page to save changes.

How to Mount Your VIGI Pan & Tilt Camera to a Wall or Pole

This article will show you how to mount your camera to the wall, and how to remove your camera from the camera base.

How to Mount Your Camera

1. Mark Position

Place the mounting template where you want the camera. For wall mounting, drill four holes through four circles on your mounting template.

2. Mount Base or Pole Mounting

For wall mounting, insert four anchors into the holes and use the self-tapping screws to affix the camera base over the anchors.

How to Uninstall Your Camera

If you mounted it on the wall

How to use VIGI cameras with other NVR brands or NAS

The VIGI cameras work with VIGI NVR as well as other NVR brands or NAS for easier batch access and management. It is recommended to use the VIGI cameras with the VIGI NVR. For other NVR brands, make sure they support ONVIF and RTSP protocols. Here we will show you how to use VIGI cameras with other NVR brands.

Step 1: Power on your cameras and connect them to the same network as your NVR.

Step 2: Activate the cameras using the VIGI Security Manager or VIGI App.

What should I do if VIGI camera is not found?

This article is to solve the problem that VIGI camera is not found. Please check the steps below:

Step 1. Confirm that the camera is powered up.

The camera should be powered up via 12V DC adapter or PoE (802.3af/at). The IR LED will turn on for 20 seconds once the camera is powered on.

Step 2. Confirm that the camera is connected to your network properly.

The camera should be connected to network devices via Ethernet cable.

Step 3. Make sure your device is on the same network as the camera.

Step 4. Reboot your network devices including router and refresh to discover your cameras again.

Step 5. Try other methods to discover devices.

You can try to discover devices via VIGI Security Manager, VIGI NVR or VIGI App.

How to Verify Fake Micro SD Cards When Using with VIGI Cameras

Note:

A security camera that works with a standalone microSD card is primarily designed to store motion-activated recordings or short video clips of movements with local storage, which offers a cost-effective alternative to the subscription-based cloud storage. However, users may run into issues like the camera is unable to overwrite recordings, the SD card becomes full and stops recording or the SD card cannot be formatted by the camera App, etc. These kinds of problems might be caused by the fake SD card.

Micro SD Card and fake SD Card

An SD Card is a small electronic storage medium used by a plethora of storage devices including smartphones, games devices, camcorders, and cameras. Most of the smartphones and security cameras are using the microSD card.

The TP-Link camera supports a microSD card with up to 512GB capacity. If the remaining space of an SD card is less than 500MB or 5% of the total capacity before the first insertion of the camera, it would be impossible to record. There are different speed specifications for microSD cards and it is recommended to use a card with Class 10 or UHS 1 speed rating, which requires a minimum writing speed of 10MB/s.

The most common fake microSD card is the fake capacity expanded card, which uses illegal means and tools to make the cards with a small capacity appear larger. For example, a 32GB card is displayed as 128GB on your computer or other devices. This kind of card is usually having a lower price than the official quality goods. Since the capacity is Manual deceived by the illegal means and tools so that the space beyond the original capacity cannot be used normally.

If the stored file exceeds the actual capacity, the file will be unavailable. Our camera recognizes the microSD card and will format it in Fat32 format and creates index files to save your video data. We do not support the card due to the particularity of the monitoring camera; we need to ensure that the SD card can work stably for a long time. And since camera data is relatively important, data loss or failure to write data can have a significant impact.

Note: For VIGI cameras, it is required to format the SD card on the VIGI app for local recording.

When it comes to counterfeit memory cards, you will find some different types of them like listed below:

1. Reduced Read / Write Speed: You buy an SD card that shows something like “maximum 95 MB/s read and 90 MB/s write speed” and a “V30” label that is supposed to guarantee a minimum writing speed of 30 MB/s. But when copying a file using a fast SD card reader, you might not even get more than 5-10 MB/s.

2. Reduced Capacity: The SD card might report a large capacity when inserted in your computer, camera, or storage device, while it contains only a very small part of the overall capacity. This happens because the microchip (a tiny part of the SD card that is responsible for reporting the total amount of storage available) within the card has been reprogrammed to report a different size to the host. Counterfeit SD cards with reduced capacities should be avoided the most because they will most certainly result in data loss.

3. Fake Brand: Some SD cards have big brand labels attached to them and sold at a premium price when they are made from cheap parts by some unknown manufacturer. Such products are often more difficult to identify and might require a call to the manufacturer to verify the serial number. You can also read the reviews posted by verified buyers on Amazon or other online stores.

4. Unrealistic Capacity: There are memory cards that advertise completely unrealistic storage sizes. For example, if you search online for microSD cards, you may find cards with capacities as large as 2TB, however, such capacities do not yet exist.

5. Bogus / Non-Working: Some SD cards are sold at incredibly low prices by unknown sellers and may just don’t work.

As you can see from the earlier section, the issues can range from getting very slow speeds to data loss and unusable SD cards. The problem with fake SD cards with reduced capacity is that when users go over a certain capacity, all data from that point on will be corrupted. Everything appears to be working great at first, but troubles may show up in later usage.

How to configure VIGI camera’s exposure parameters

This article discusses how to adjust the exposure parameters of VIGI Cameras using the web interface or VIGI Security Manager to achieve better image quality in different environments.

Exposure refers to the amount of light entering the camera. Overexposure in surveillance images results in a too bright image, while underexposure leads to a dark image that lacks clarity.

Overexposure can generally be divided into overexposure during the day and overexposure at night. Overexposure during the day is mainly caused by backlighting in the scene, while overexposure at night is caused by excessive infrared reflection from objects.

Underexposure, on the other hand, is primarily due to low ambient brightness, resulting in insufficient light entering the camera.

To address the above issues, we can make adjustments through Exposure setting, Prevent Overexposure setting, as well as BLC (Backlight Compensation) and WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) settings to obtain more suitable image effects for specific scenes.

Exposure settings include exposure gain and shutter speed. Higher gain and slower shutter speed allow more light to enter the camera within the same time frame, resulting in a brighter image, and vice versa for a darker image.

Prevent overexposure, the brightness of the infrared illuminator can be adjusted to avoid excessive infrared reflection at night.

In addition, there are WDR settings and BLC settings. WDR processes the dark and bright areas of the image to make the dark areas brighter and the bright areas darker, thus achieving better image quality in environments with high contrast between highlights and shadows. BLC targets specific backlight areas and adjusts the light entering the camera accordingly to achieve the desired image effect.

How to add your cameras using the V5 GUI…​

Step 1:​

Open a web browser and enter the IP address of your NVR in the address bar. If you are not sure what this is, use the SADP tool to find it.​

Step 2:​

Log in to the NVR using the “admin” username and password you have set on it.​

Go to: Device Access > Device Configuration > PoE Settings​

If you are connecting your camera via the Plug-and-Play method, then make sure that Network Camera Plug-and-Play is enabled on the POE port you will be connecting the camera to on this page.​

For any camera with a cable run under 100m, leave the Network Cable Distance as Short Distance.​

If you are connecting your camera manually by IP address, disable the Network Camera Plug-and-Play option for the channel that you plan to add the camera to.​

For any Plug-and-Play camera, just make sure that it is in its inactive default state and then connect it to the port you reserved in step 3. After 20 seconds or so, the camera Status should turn to Connecting and then Online (you may need to click on Refresh to see this).​

For Manually added cameras, if you can see the camera in the List of Online Devices section, then just tick the box for the camera and then click + Add to Device List, which will then automatically add it to one of the channels you disabled Plug-and-Play on in the last step.​

Click on +Add at the top of the page and fill out the fields as follows:​

IP Address: Enter the IP address of your camera, using the ‘Test’ button to verify there is a camera at that address. ​

Device Name: This can be anything you like, as it is the name the camera will show with on your NVR. ​

Protocol: Select the camera’s manufacturer from this list, or failing that, use the ONVIF protocol (your camera will need to have ONVIF enabled for this to work). ​

Management Port: Enter the Server port set on the camera, which you can find in the SADP tool or in Network>Basic Settings>Port in the camera’s web browser interface. If you haven’t changed this, it is usually 8000 by default. ​

User Name: “admin” or the username of any other users set up on that camera. ​

Password: The password set with that user on the camera – if this is the same as the ‘Default Activation Password‘ you have set on the NVR, then you can tick this box instead. ​

Transfer Protocol: ‘Auto’ is normally best. ​

When these are completed, click OK.​

Your camera should then appear in the list of devices with an assigned channel, and an Online status, meaning it has been successfully added.​

I spent the last two weeks getting to know everything about these cameras and this thread will capture all this information. It will take me several weeks to document all the information so please be patient.

There are a variety of problems that I will try my best to explain and share the possible solutions. I have gotten pretty comfortable with these cameras and have purposely bricked them to various degrees of severity just to validate the recovery process. Most people “brick” their cameras trying to upgrade the firmware. This is not a serious issue and it can be corrected very easily. The camera runs an upgrade service on port 3800. The configTool always shows a default port of 37777 but this is not an issue as it can do the upgrade on port 3800 anyway. Change your port to 3800 and use a firmware file lsted below and you are back in business.

I will keep updating this post as I get more time to write all the details around recovery. I will also post links to over 40+ firmware files that and which cameras they will work with. It will take me a bit of time to capture all this information, so please be patient.

 How to Download and Prepare Firmware

Unbricking your Dahua IP camera (Tips, Tricks & Firmware)

BRICKED CAMERA? How can you tell?

There are several types of “BRICKED” camera conditions and they have varying levels of severity and also varying levels of complexity for recovery. Most are simple and caused by bad firmware uploads. The worst will require a full rebuild of the partitions which load the kernel, software and all other data.

1. The first step in identifying the severity of your issue is to determine what still working on your camera. In order to do that, lets remove as many variables as possible to the troubleshooting process. If possible, connect the camera ethernet and PC ethernet on it’s own switch and make sure that no vlan tagging is enabled on the switch.

Next, you need to figure out if the IP address is still reacheable. Ping the last known ip address. The default address for most cameras is 192.168.1.108.

If you don’t know it you can use the arp/ping method to configure which adds as startic arp entry to a new ip address. (This feature is enabled on the camera by default)

2. Once you have a pingable IP, you need to know what services are still active on the camera. This can be done with a simple port scanner. I have added a link to below in tools.

3. Run the port scanner and record which ports are still open. In many cases port 23 and port 3800 will still be open. If this is your situation, it is a very simple fix. If no ports are open, you will need to do a full image load which is more complex.

The typical ports that you would see are:

23 – Telnet access

80 – Web User interface

443 – SSL

554 – Real time streaming port

3800 – Upgrade Deamon

5000 – UPnP

37777 – TCP Video streaming

37778 – UDP Video Streaming

42323 – Real time remote runner

1A. If port 3800 is open you can connect with the Dahua Config tool (link below in tools). I tdefault to port 37777 but change it to 3800 as this port where the upgrade daemon is listening. Port 37777 is a redirect but it won’t work if your firmware has failed.

Launch the config tool and click on login button. Type the IP address , username and password then port 3800.

Open a know working firmware file and upload to the camera.

1B. If port 3800 is not open, go to the next step to enable port 3800.

2. If you have telnet access, you can login with putty. Link to putty below in tools. The default Web UI password is admin / admin.

In older firmware the telnet account is root / vizxv

In newer firmware the telnet account is admin / 7ujMko0+”web UI password” —> 7ujmko0admin

Once connected you can execute a ps command to see running processes. /usr/sbin/upgraded process is what listens on port 3800 for the firmware binary file.

There is also another copy in /var/tmp/

A useful tip for watching the upgrade process is to kill the “upgraded” process that is running and re-launch it in the foreground to watch the upgrade.

Here you can see each partition being loaded wit the individual img files. I will write a quick how to on loading each one individually at a later time.

If you chose a valid firmware file, you will be back in working order. If you still have problems, repeat with another firmware file till you have a valid file. The IPC-HFW4300S-V2 is not natively compatible with all other 4300S firmware. I am in the process of writing a how to that explains how to over come this issue.

UNBRICK WITH UBOOT via SERIAL

OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION (to be sorted later)

The firmware consists of several images that are loaded into various partitions in flash in a UBI file system. You can load each partition separately if needed. More on this later…. (I’ll put a guide together on flashing and recovering partitions)

Once you telnet into the camera, there are number of useful binaries in the user shell that can help correct and diagnose some of the problems people are experiencing. One of the helpful steps is to kill the /var/tmp/upgraded process and run it in the foreground so you can see what is going on and easily capture error messaged. The /var/tmp/upgraded process is what opens the port 3800 and allows you to connect to the camera with the config tool if your web services have failed. There is also another copy in usr/sbin/.

Also, in there is a command to reset all the parameters back to factory defaults (username, password, ip address back to 192.168.1.108 etc.) This can be accomplished with /sbin/clearparam.

Another issue that people run into is the constant reboot issue. This can be caused by a failed process. The main application which provides all the camera capabilities (web interface, streaming, etc.) is /usr/bin/sonia. This process is what makes most firmware different from version to version (sort of). There are also changes to the web partition which contains the web server pages that /usr/bin sonia hosts on port 80. The sonia process is invoked by a shell script in init.d and if the process is killed, the camera reboots after a few minutes. This has cause many people issues when trying to “unbrick” the camera since you only have a few minutes between reboots.

To stop the reboots you can update the flash. There is a parameter called appauto that tells the camera to auto start /us/bin/sonia. If you want the camera to start and not invoke the shell script that launches sonia, you need to set appauto to 0. This will stop the camera from rebooting when sonia is not running.

This cam be accomplished by running ‘/sbin/appauto 0’. To turn it back on, just run /sbin/appauto 1. This writes the boot parameter in flash that the kernel reads before starting the process. You can check the current status of the appauto bootparameter with ‘cat /proc/dahua/bootpara’ It will only show what the parameter was when you booted up, so if you changes it you need to reboot to see the change in /proc/dahua/bootpara.

You can change the subtype to 1 for the secondary stream also you can add user:password@ in front of the IP address if you have the permissions set requiring it.

You can use the HTTP API to configure some parameters that are not yet in the web UI. For instance, another member discovered he could enable NFS through the web UI in addition to the local SD card. This config is not possible through the web interface as you need to pick one or the other.

These documents details the API of Dahua video products (links provided to some of the versions below). Programmers or users can access and configure Dahua video products through the API. Every setting of the camera is available through the API whereas only a small number are available through the WEB interface. The document with version 1.10 is available with firmware version 2.0 and above. This document with version 1.20, 1.21, 1.22, 1.23,1.24,1,25,1,26,1,27,1,28 is available with firmware 2.210 and above.This document with version 1. 29 ,1.30, 1.31, 1.32, 1.33, 1.34, 1.35,

1.36 is available with firmware 2.210 and above.This document with version 1.37 is available with firmware 2.212, 2.4 and above.

I have also done a bit of testing around the tftp process that is invoked in u-boot that looks for upgrade_info_7db780a713a4.txt and failed.txt. I think with a little more work, I’ll figure out if there is a recovery method using tftp without serial access. This would be necessary if you lose telnet access and need to rebuild the kernel partition that hosts telnetd.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR IPC-HFW4300S-V2 CAMERAS

The new camera appears to have differences (a few that I already found) that makes some of the general firmware incompatible with them. I have found a workaround, but it is complex. I will try to summarize it in a separate thread in the following weeks. I will also repackage the newest firmware files in versions that will work for the V2 cameras. Stay tuned! In the meantime, you can use General_IPC-HX5(4)XXX_Eng_N_V2.210.0000.21.R.20140613.bin or the PAL equivalent to recover your camera.

What should I do if I fail to configure the Tapo Smart Plug?

The Tapo app will guide you step by step during the initial configuration, but you may not be able to get through all the steps due to some interference. This FAQ will tell you what to do if you have trouble getting through a certain step.

The phone is looking for the smart device via Bluetooth or its default 2.4GHz WiFi, if you are unable to get through this step, you will see the following error page.

1. The signal strength of your home Wi-Fi network is a bit weak, move the smart device closer to your router for a try.

2. Ensure your home Wi-Fi network is a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network, the Tapo device does not support a 5GHz Wi-Fi connection.

3. If it doesn’t display the Wi-Fi name of the router automatically, please click on “RECAN” at the upper right corner to refresh the Wi-Fi list.

4. If the router’s SSID is hidden, please choose “Other” to input SSID and password manually.

5. Please change the wireless channel of the 2.4G Wi-Fi network to 1, 6 or 11.

6. Reset the device as per QIG/UG and go through the process again.

Case 3

If you are unable to get through this step, you will see the following error page.

Troubleshooting tips:

1. Ensure you have selected the correct home Wi-Fi network and have entered the correct wireless password. If the Wi-Fi network or password is incorrect, click on “Choose a Network” and select the Wi-Fi network again.

2. Make sure your smart device is within the Wi-Fi range of your router.

3. Turn your phone’s or tablet’s Bluetooth off and back on.

4. If the problem persists, try to reset the smart device as per UG/QIG, and then set it up again.

5. Check if there is a firewall on your router. If yes, please turn it off.

6. Change the wireless security type of the 2.4G network to WPA2.

7. Try to connect the Tapo plug to the hotspot of your cell phone or another wifi network. If it works, please upgrade the firmware for the plug, then reset and reconnect it to your router.

How to view Tapo camera on PC/NAS/NVR through RTSP/Onvif Protocol

The Tapo camera supports the RTSP and Onvif protocol, so it can work with third-party NVR or NAS devices that also support the RTSP/Onvif protocol. If a user wants to view the live stream of the camera with a third-party app like VLC Player, iSpy, here is the method for him.

Notes:

1. The username/password is the camera account that you created via the Tapo app. If you haven’t created the username and password, please follow the instruction of Step 1 in this article.

2. The IP address is the camera’s IP address assigned by your host router. You can find it on your host router’s DHCP list or in the Tapo app (Go to the Device Settings page of the camera and tap Device Info to see its IP).

3. If you want to view the live stream of the Tapo camera with a third-party app remotely, you will need to open port 554 for the camera on your host router first. Please enable the TCP forwarding for port 554.

4. You could use ONVIF standards to add the Tapo camera with its username/password and IP address. Please see the example of iSpy in Case 2 to know how to use onvif protocal to control the camera.

5. For Tapo C310, the resolution of the stream1 is determined by the video quality set on the Tapo APP.

If you need to watch the 3MP HD Video via RTSP, please change the video quality to Best Quality on the Tapo APP and use: rtsp://IP Address/stream1

6. If the Camera is inserted microSD card and subscribed Tapo Care, its RTSP stream will fail. You need to remove microSD card or cancel Tapo Care to get its RTSP stream.

7. If you find that there’s no or very little sound when using RTSP/Onvif to watch live stream, please adjust the camera microphone on Tapo APP.

Apart from the Tapo app, Tapo cameras can work with other third-party software to use and manage your Tapo camera.

Note: Before you start, make sure the computer/NAS/NVR and your camera are connecting to the same network or can visit the public IP and port of your camera.

Step 1: Create a camera account in the Tapo app

1. On the Home page, tap on your camera model card to go to the camera Live View page (or you can click on Cameras tab>tap Manage on your camera model to go to the Live View page).

2. On the Live View page, tap the icon at the top right corner to enter the Device Settings page.

3. Tap Advanced Settings, then select Camera Account to create an account (username and password) for camera login on other portals.

You will see a prompt like below (About Camera Account), please read it and tap Understand and Agree to Use, then you can create an account for the camera.

Note: The username and password should contain 6 to 32 characters.

Step 2: Add your Tapo camera on iSpy (Example of Onvif protocol connection)

1. Run the iSpy software on your computer.

2. Click Add on the top left menu and select ONVIF Camera.

3. Enter the Username and Password that you set for your camera on the pop-up window, select Network Address, and click Next. You can customize other parameters if needed.

4. Choose the video resolution and click OK.

5. Customize the camera settings as needed, including Microphone, Talk, Motion Detection, Alerts, Recording, Images, Scheduling, and Storage. You can also change all the settings later. Click Finish to complete adding your camera to iSpy.

6. After adding your Tapo camera to iSpy, you can monitor and manage it using the app. View the live, customize motion detection, check the recordings when motion detected, set recording schedules, record videos and more.

Step 3: Watch your Tapo camera on VLC (Example of RTSP protocol connection)

1.Open the VLC software, select Media > Open Network Stream

2.Fill in the URL of the Tapo camera

The URL of the RTSP live stream for the Tapo cameras will be:

For high quality stream1: rtsp://IP Address/stream1

For low quality stream2: rtsp:// IP Address/stream2

How to avoid noise when monitoring the sound from Tapo camera

Tapo cameras are capable of not only monitoring video stream from the camera, but also monitoring sound collected by the built-in microphone on the cameras. You can turn on/off the sound feature like the monitor screen as below. But to increase or decrease the volume, you need to press the volume button on your phone.

Why is there noise?

Noise is a physical phenomenon and it’s actually inevitable. Basically, the IP cameras including other brands’ have background noise more or less. And those cameras which seem to generate less noise probably have worse sound collecting performance. Tapo cameras are designed with a sensible sound collector which might take some noise in your monitor. Even though it is inevitable at present, we are still trying our best to make improvement and searching for better solutions.

How to reduce the noise?

1.     Please keep your mobile device away from the camera as much as possible. The Tapo camera is designed for remote access and monitoring via cloud service, local usage in close range may cause interference and noise between your mobile device and the camera.

2.    Please reduce the output volume below 50% since a louder volume may enlarge noise decibel. The value between 40%-50% is suggested with not only good sound quality but also minimum noise decibel. As long keep focus on our cloud camera you will find our progress on new models.

How to edit Home and Away Mode for Tapo&Kasa Cameras on the Tapo app

The Away mode and the Home mode are two different sets of Detection, Alarm, and Notification settings for Tapo&Kasa cameras. You can tap the button on the Tapo app>Cameras tab to quickly apply the preset settings to the cameras when you are home or away.

Note:

Here we take the Home Mode as an example.

For Tapo Cameras:

1. Open Tapo APP, find the Cameras tab at the bottom, and locate the Detection Mode section.

You can tap to activate the Home or Away mode, which will overwrite the current settings of all cameras. To edit the mode settings, click the three-dots option.

2. Click on Add Devices if you want to add more cameras to the Home mode.

Click on the Edit icon at the top right corner if you want to delete cameras from the Home mode.

3. Select the camera you want to edit the mode settings. Here we take Tapo C200 as an example, and you can change the Privacy mode, Detection, Alarm, and Notification settings of the camera.

Take the Motion Detection feature as an example. You can click on Motion Detection to turn it on or off, change the Motion Sensitivity, and set the Activity Zones on the Motion Detection page.

And you can also click on Detection>Person Detection or Baby Crying Detection to turn them on or off, and tap Alarm and Notifications to configure the related settings.

4. Click on the Back icon at the top left corner of the Tapo C200 page if you have changed the configurations, and click on other cameras if you want to change their configurations.

After completely presetting the Home or Away Mode, you can tap the Home mode or Away mode card on the Tapo app>Cameras tab to switch your cameras’ settings quickly.

For Kasa Cameras:

Here we take KC115 as an example.

1. Open the Tapo app, find the Cameras tab at the bottom and you can tap to activate the Home or Away mode, which will overwrite the current settings of all cameras. To edit the mode settings, click the three dots option.

2. Select the camera you want to edit the mode settings and enter the Detection & Alerts page.

3. You can change the Privacy mode, Detection, and Notification settings of the camera.

Tap Detection > Motion Detection to edit the motion detection function. You can adjust Motion Sensitivity.

Tap Detection>AI Detection to change your AI Detection feature, such as Person Detection.

4. After editing the detection settings, tap Detection & Alerts > Notifications to customize its current settings.

After completely presetting the Home or Away Mode, you can tap the card on the Tapo app>Cameras tab to switch all of your cameras’ detection settings to the mode you want.

How can I find the IP address of my Tapo&Kasa camera

Note: Some Tapo battery cameras or doorbells need to work with the hub and can’t connect to the router directly, which do not have IP address.

There are two methods to find the IP address of the camera.

Here we take Tapo C200 as an example.

Method 1: Via Tapo app

1. On the Tapo app> Home page, tap your camera model card to go to the Live View page (or you can click on Cameras tab>tap Manage on your camera model to go to the Live View page).

2. On the Live View page, tap the icon at the top right corner to enter the Device Settings page.

3. Tap Device Info and then you can find the IP address of your camera.

Method 2: Via the web management page of your router

1. Log in to the management page of your router.

How can I view continuous recordings of Tapo&Kasa cameras on the Tapo app?

This article will show you how to view continuous recordings on the Tapo app.

What can I do if the video image is upside down on my Tapo&Kasa camera

Tapo&Kasa cameras support the function of Video Rotation, and if the camera video image is upside down on the Tapo app, please refer to the following steps to correct it.

Here we take Tapo C200 as an example.

1. On the Home page of the Tapo app, tap your camera model card or tap the Cameras tab>click on Manage on your camera model to go to the Live View page.

2. On the Live View page, tap the icon on the top right corner to enter the Device Settings page.

What can I do if I can’t find my Tapo camera on Tapo APP?

If your device does not appear on your app after completing the configuration process, please try the following troubleshooting suggestions:

1. If you are using a Wi-Fi wireless configuration to connect your camera, please check if the camera has successfully connected to the router. You can verify whether the camera is connected to Wi-Fi by checking the System light of your camera. For most Tapo Cams, if it is not connected properly, the LED light will blink red slowly. For the HomeKit version Camera, its LED light indicator will blink blue slowly. If the camera cannot connect properly, we recommend resetting the camera to factory default settings as per the User Guide and then reconfiguring the camera.

2. Check the DHCP settings on your router and ensure that the DHCP Server of your router is enabled. If the camera has already connected to the router properly, you will see the device in the client list of your router. If you don’t know how to do this, please contact your router’s customer support.

3. Please verify if there are any special symbols in your Tapo account（TP-Link ID） password. If there are, try to remove them and make the account password simpler by only using numbers and English letters. Then reset and add the camera from the beginning again.

4. Connect your smartphone to the same Wi-Fi network as your camera and check whether you can see it on the Tapo app. If you can see it, that means the camera fails to connect to the cloud for unknown reasons and you cannot access it remotely. In this case, verify if any firewall or security settings are blocking the connection to the Cloud Server. Temporarily disable any antivirus, firewall, or security software to see if it resolves the issue

5. Using a public DNS server may improve the connection, try changing your router’s DNS server settings to 8.8.8.8. If you don’t know how to do this, please contact your router’s customer support.

To eliminate potential issues with the router’s Wi-Fi network, it is recommended to use a mobile hotspot and configure the Camera to test its functionality.

Here are steps for using a mobile hotspot to test the Camera’s configuration:

Preparation: We suggest having two phones. Use one phone (Phone A) to create a hotspot and use another phone (Phone B) to download the Tapo app and complete the setup process.

Steps:

1. On Phone A, disable Wi-Fi and enable only mobile data.

2. On Phone A, navigate to phone settings and access the “Personal Hotspot” or “Mobile Hotspot” option, ensuring that the “Mobile Hotspot” feature is activated. Please make sure the created hotspot operates on a 2.4GHz network.

3. Set a unique name and password for the hotspot, different from your router’s Wi-Fi, to facilitate the Camera’s connection.

4. On Phone B, download the Tapo app. Follow the app’s instructions to add the device and complete the remaining setup steps as guided by the app.

Please contact TP-Link technical support with the following information if the issue persists after the above suggestions.

1) Your TP-Link ID or cloud account.

2) The model number of your TP-Link Cam and its MAC address.

3) The model number of the host router.

Introduction

The quality, latency and smoothness of live view streaming is dictated by many factors:

Available Streams from Cameras

Typically cameras will provide 2 video streams as well as the ability to request a single image. These limitations dictate what is and isn’t possible when it comes to both recording and streaming.

💡 Note: More expensive and speciality cameras will provide additional video streams and custom streams of crops/de-warps of the same image (e.g. 180 or 360 cameras).

The streams are usually accessed through RTSP and the images through HTTP. For example:

Transcoding vs Proxying

TetherX supports both transcoding and proxying/packaging. The differences between the two are as follows:

Transcoding is a process of taking the stream from a camera, decoding it and then re-encoding it into a different format. This is the ideal method to hit a specific requirement of Internet bandwidth and viewing size, but it is in most cases cost prohibitive as you need power hungry and expensive hardware to achieve.

​For context, a TetherBox Pico capable of recording 10 cameras will only be able to record 2 if transcoding (you can enable transcoding in TetherX by editing a camera and switching to the advanced tab).

Proxying & Packaging is what is used in most cases, where the original video stream is maintained but is packaged into different containers, for example .mp4 for video recording and .ts for local and high-def live streaming (see streaming technologies below).

This means that ultimately, you are at the mercy of the camera/recorder. If you need to open 16 cameras and each one is 1mbit, but your upload speed is only 10mbit, it will simply not work because the stream size cannot be adjusted without either:

Video vs Images

TetherX use a combination of images and video to achieve different goals. It is important to understand the differences and advantages/disadvantages of each, which in turn dictate when either is used in TetherX.

The main difference between image and video compression is every image is self contained, where every video frame is part of a stream. While you may skip an image, skipping a frame in a video stream leads to parts of the image breaking / disappearing:

Systems that ignore broken/skipped data (e.g. streaming over UDP) will show a broken image while many systems will simply show a loading spinner while they wait for the next key frame (which is controlled by the key-frame interval set on the camera/recorder, typically set to 1 second, or the same number as fps, but sometimes much longer).

Because each image is self contained, it is typically 5 to 25x larger in bitrate vs video at 25 images per second. It may initially seem obvious that video should be used when accessing remotely, however there are certain important underlying trade-offs that make it a much tougher question which needs to be evaluated on a case by case basis, according to the following:

How TetherX Does It

TetherX supports most streaming technologies and switches between them depending on context.

When local streaming (the TetherBox is able to detect if you are on the same network), if we are viewing less than 10 cameras simultaneously TetherX switches to LHLS (see above) to show the primary video stream from each camera at full resolution/frame-rate (assuming your viewing device is capable of displaying this many streams). If this is not working well for you, you are presented with a toggle to switch off High-def streaming to fall back to loading images.

When full screening a camera (double tap/click a camera), we assume you want the higher quality and we switch to the full primary stream. If your connection is not able to sustain this stream, we automatically fall back to loading images.

When viewing multiple sites / cameras over Internet in record mode, we switch to image viewing but we transcode/transize the images depending on the size of each live view box on your screen. This ensures that you are able to view many simultaneous cameras, the latency is lower than video, it automatically adapts to the available bandwidth and it does not impact recording quality. This does however mean a lower fps.

When viewing multiple sites / cameras over Internet in monitor mode, we proxy the connection directly to the image provided by the camera. This leads to a further lowering of fps but ensures the TetherBox can monitor the health of and provide live view of 10x more cameras than in record mode.

How Hikvision iVMS Does it

Because of the constrains outlined above, in order to show smooth video in iVMS (and Dahua PSS) software, if the connection speeds both on site and viewing device cannot accommodate the streams, the software temporarily reconfigures the cameras to send a lower bitrate stream while keeping the resolution the same.

💡 Note: if you happen to kill the software at this point (or lose connection), this can cause the camera to permanently record in lower quality.

Because many cameras or recorders only support a single stream at above D1 resolution, this means that not only is the live view quality reduced, but also the video being recoded which can lead to losing critical video evidence.

In our testing, limiting the connection to 5mbit 200ms upload and streaming just 4 cameras in HD resulted in blocky and usable footage being recorded on the NVR. It also took over 10 seconds to get an initial image, however the motion was smooth (25fps) once loaded.

In comparison when using images (outside of the iVMS/PSS software), the images loaded almost immediately, the image quality was significantly higher, but the frame-rate was poor (3-4fps) – still sufficient for making decisions in a control room setting, but understandably disappointing in smoothness by comparison. (Note: higher fps can still be achieved by full screening a single camera on demand).

When viewing a smaller number of cameras from the same manufacturer on a single PC or phone, it looks impressive to have smooth 25fps video on iVMS/PSS/others. However, when dealing with 100+ or even 32 cameras, from different manufacturers, different firmware versions, with multiple users, across multiple sites, with differing and fluctuating bandwidths, you begin to appreciate the trade-offs and advantages/disadvantages of each approach.

💡 Note: This approach of custom code to adjust Hikvision camera settings to achieve smoother live view is only suitable if you do not care about recording quality and you are optimising for a single manufacturer with compatible models/firmware.

Step 1: Login to your Synology NAS via a browser​

Step 2: Click the Package Center icon​

Step 3: Search for and install the Surveillance Station software (it should be on the home page of the package center, if not you can use the search bar to find it)​

Step 4: Click the Synology main menu at the top left of your screen and open the newly installed Surveillance Station software​

Step 5: Click the IP Camera icon​

Step 6: Click the add button when the new window open and then click add camera from the drop-down​

Step 7: Select Quick Setup and then click the next button​

Step 8: Enter the camera details manually or click the Search icon next the IP Address box​

Step 9: Check both the Synology Supported Cameras and ONVIF lists (some camera models are not directly supported by Synology, but as long as the camera is ONVIF compliant you should be able to add it to the Surveillance Station software)​

Step 10: Select the camera you want to add from one of the lists and click OK​

Step 11: Check that all the camera details are filled in, including the cameras username & password (also give the camera a unique name to help you identify it from other cameras)​

Step 12: Click the Test Connection button and if the test is successful you’ll get a green tick and a live shot from the camera, you can then click Finish and the camera will be added to your Synology NAS​

If the test is not successful you will have to go back and check the camera’s settings are correct, the most common problem is that the camera has an IP address that is not on your network, after you have followed our instructions from a previous video on how to change the IP address you should get a successful connection and be able to add the camera.

Smart Life and Tuya APP

The camera can be connected to either the Smart Life or Tuya smart app, both of which have the same function, so just choose the app you use regularly.

How To Connect Smart Life or Tuya Camera?

There are 2 ways to add a Smart Life and Tuya camera, we recommend using ‘OR Code’ to add a camera.

Before adding the Smart Life and Tuya camera, please connect the camera to the power supply, if it is a battery camera you will need to turn on the power switch.

Once the camera has been powered up wait for the camera to start up (about 20 seconds) and then you can start connecting the camera.

We recommend using OR Code to connect Smart Life and Tuya cameras.

1. Click on the ‘+’ icon, select ‘Camera & Lock’ and Smart Camera (Wi-Fi)

2. Click Make sure the indicator is flashing quickly or a prompt tone is heard, then click Next

3. Enter your wifi password, then click Next.

4. Hold the mobile phone screen in the front of the camera, the distance between the two should be 15 to 20 cm, Try not to shake the mobile phone during the scanning. when you hear ‘Connect Router’, click “I Heard a Prompt”, and wait for connecting.

Note

If it is a mini battery camera, there is only an indicator light, no voice prompt. Please check your operating instructions for the indicator light.

5. wait for the camera to connect to wifi ( approx. 30 seconds)

Wi-Fi Mode connect camera

Not all Smart Life and Tuya cameras support Wi-Fi Mode connectivity, please contact your camera’s seller for details.

1. Click on the top right corner to switch to Wi-Fi Mode, then click on the Next step.

2. Select AP Mode, enter your wifi password and click Next.

3. Click Go to Connect, connect to the camera’s hotspot wifi, then return to the Smart Life or Tuya APP.

Troubleshooting

Why can’t the Smart Life and Tuya camera scan the QR code?

1. Ensure that the lens is not blocked. If the camera lens has a protective film, remove it before you scan the QR code.
2. Place the app QR code in front of the camera at a distance of15 cm to 20 cm.Adjust the angle and distance until you hear a prompt.
3. If it is a battery camera, please check the status of the indicator
4. Reset the camera, resetting the camera will restore the camera to factory settings.
5. Try to connect to the camera using Wi-Fi Mode

Why can’t the Smart Life and Tuya camera connect to wifi?

If you have any problem with adding camera to the app, please refer to the following steps to troubleshoot:

How can I get Smart Life and Tuya camera connected to another Wi-Fi?

If the current Wi-Fi of the camera and Wi-Fi you would like to switch can be connected at the same time, you can switch the Wi-Fi directly by selecting Wi-Fi Network in the interface of Setting.

If the camera is disconnected to the current Wi-Fi, the App will say “Device disconnected”. You can reset the camera and reconnect it.

Why can’t I connect to the Smart Life and Tuya camera?

If you can’t connect to the camera, usually due to a wifi problem, you can try resetting the camera and reconnecting it. It is recommended to connect next to the router.

Why does App shows the camera has been bound to another account?

There are the following possible reasons for the camera prompting that it has been bound by another account during network configuration:

If you can’t find certain settings on your Smart Life or Tuya camera, then your camera doesn’t support this feature and you are advised to contact your camera seller for details.

Share Camera

You can share your Smart Life or Tuya camera with your family or friends to use the camera for multiple people.

The other party needs a Smart Life or Tuya account to use the camera, and can only share the same app.

1. Click on the icon in the top right corner to enter the settings screen, select Share Device, click on Add Sharing.

2. You can enter the shared account number or copy the link to your friend or family member, who can then use the camera.

Recording setting

You need to insert the memory card to see the recording settings.

Click on Recording settings, open Local Recording.
By default, the camera is in Non-Stop recording mode, you can change the Recording Mode.

View recording video

In the live video screen of the camera, click on Playback to view the video on the memory card, the coloured time indicates the recorded video.

Click on the ‘‘date icon, you can select the recording date. By default the sound is turned off, click on the ‘‘ in the top right corner to turn on the video sound.

Save recording video to your phone

Click on the record icon, you can save the video to your phone.

Detection Alarm Setting

Click on Detection Alarm Settings, turn on Motion Detection Alarm and the app will send a notification to your mobile phone when the camera detects a moving object.

If there are frequent false alarms, you can adjust the detection sensitivity and turn on Human Body Filtering to reduce false alarms.

Detection area

If you don’t want to detect the whole frame, you can select a specific area,Drag/Resize the red frame to set an detect area.

Siren Sound

When the camera detects motion or sound, the camera will make a Siren sound.
You can turn on Trigger Siren in Detection Alarm Settings, and adjust the sound timing and volume in Siren Adjustment.

Motion Tracking Setting

Motion Tracking can follow objects automatically. You can turn on Motion Tracking in the Detection Alarm Settings.

Basic Function Settings

In Basic Function Settings, you can switch on and off the camera’s Status Indicator, Flip Screen, Time Watermark and Talk Mode.

Voice Intercom Settings

The Smart Life or Tuya camera has two voice modes, speech may be affected by the environment. We recommend that you select one-way or two-way speech according to the actual situation.

Controlling camera movement

You can swipe the video screen to control the camera movement, or click the Direction control button

Quickly move the camera

In the Site screen, click on Site added succe… Save the camera’s current location, so that you can move the camera to the saved location quickly by clicking on the picture.

How to watch the Smart Life and Tuya camera on TV?

if your TV is a smart TV and you can search for the app you are using in the TV’s App Store, you can download and use this app to stream your camera video to the TV;
If the app you are using cannot be searched in the TV’s App Store, it means that this function is not supported at the moment.

How to turn on the camera motion detection function and adjust the sensitivity?

Please see Detection Alarm Setting.
If motion detection is often delayed and unable to capture moving objects, it means that the network in your home is poor or the connection delay with the cloud server is high.
If it still does not take effect, it is recommended that you remove the device and add it again, and perform the above steps again.

Yes, you can share the camera with your family or friends.

Does the Smart Life or Tuya camera support NVR or DVR function?

Not all camera devices support the NVR and DVR functions. If your device supports it, you can find the option to set the NVR and DVR function in the device’s setting page. If there is no option to set the NVR and DVR function, it means your device does not support NVR and DVR functions.

If your camera supports ONVIF or RTSP, you can connect an NVR.

Mobile Reported: When it is ticked on, the camera will send alert notifications to your mobile app when it detects movements or human activities.

Alarm Sound: When it is ticked on, the camera will sound a voice alarm when it detects movements or human activities.

Sensitivity:Adjust the detection sensitivity of the camera. 

Rule:Set advanced detection rules like safe zone or line cross alarm. 

*Notice: If the “Enable” option is on and the “Human Detect” is off, the camera will detect all movements, including pets, vehicles, plants, trees, etc. Therefore, we recommend you to active “Human Detect” to reduce false alerts. It shows that “Human Detect” function can reduce 98%-99% of the false alerts.

On screen of the monitor with live video , you can view the human faces detected by the cameras. You can easily and quickly get whether the persons detected by the camera are your friends or an intruder. If it is an intruder, the face detection function can help take some actions as soon as possible to protect your safety and property. Please follow the path below to enable the “Face Detection”.

Right-Click Menu > Face Detection

When the cameras detect human faces, the NVR will show you these faces on the right side of the screen like the image above.

How to Set Up Your Email to Receive Alert Notifications

Please follow the paths below to set up the email which you want to get alerts from the security camera system.

Right-Click Menu > Main Menu > Network > Net Service > EMAIL (Please OUBLE CLICK on “EMAIL” to enter the setting interface)

Please enter the required information of your emails in the “User Name” “Sender” and “Receiver”.
If you want to receive the alert notifications with an email different from sender email address, you can input a different email in the “Receiver”.
In the “Password”, you need a 16 digits App password. Let’s take “Gmail “as an example to show you how to get this password.

*Notice: Each e-mail service provider has its own SMTP server, port and encryption. You can find these information easily on Google. In this manual, we will show you these information of several common used e-mail service. camera is lost connection.

How To Get 16-Digit App Password

Enable IMAP access of your e-mail.

Log into your Google account. In “Security” section, find “Signing in to Google”.

If the “2-Step Verification” is off, please enable it.

Enter ”App passwords”. Select the app and device for which you want to generate the app password, or you can name your own app and device, then click “GENERATE”.

You will get a 16 digits password, this is the password you need to use later to set up your e-mail notice in NVR system.

* Notice: You are not able to review the password after you click “DONE” so please note it down or leave this page open.

Rule – Safe Zone & Line Cross Alarm

We can set up a safe zone for our camera.

The camera will only detect or sound alarm when there’s abnormal activities in the safe zone. Click on the “Set” button next to “Rule”.

Choose the safe zone shape which you would like to use. In this user manual, we use rectangle as example.

We can also choose other size such as circle to protect our valuable objects.

When we choose “Tripwire” in stead of “Intrusion”, there will be a line on the screen and the camera will only detect or sound alarm when people cross this line.

Video Blind: The camera is covered and blinded.

*e.g. You have set channel 1 and channel 2 to record videos in “video blind” interface. One day, a burglar walks to your front door and your channel 1 camera sounds an alarm. The burglar covers the camera with his jacket and run to your driveway, where your channel 2 camera is installed. When the video blind alarm is triggered by channel 1, because you have set channel 2 to record videos too, so the channel 2 camera will also record videos and you will have videos with multiple angles of this burglar. These evidence will help police officers to catch this criminal.

Snapshot Configuration

In “Snapshot Configuration”, we can set our cameras to take snapshots.

Cycle Capture

When we choose “Cycle Capture”, the camera will take snapshots periodically. For example, the default snapshot period is 64 seconds, it means the camera will automatically take snapshot every 64 seconds.

EMAIL: When this option is on, the NVR will send the snapshots captured by the cameras to your e-mail address. 

FTP: Not applicable. 

Storage: When this option is on, the NVR will store the snapshots captured by the cameras in the HDD. 

Timing Capture

When we choose”Timing Capture”, the camera will take snapshots at the time that we set.

Playback

In this part, we can review the video records taken by the cameras.

There are 6 different playback modes:

Common Playback: You can review all the video records.

Common Playback: You can review all the video records.

*e.g.:
On May 1st, you only have your channel 1 recording videos;
On May 2nd, You have your channel 1 and your channel 2 recording videos;
In “Common Playback”, you will see that there are records on May 1st and on May 2nd;

Dayparting: You can review the video records of the chosen channels during the selected period.

Smart Express: The selected alarm type videos will play at normal speed. The remaining videos will speed up to save your time. 

Smart Search: You can review the video playback of the selected alarm type within the selected time period. 

Face Search: You can review the video playback of detected human faces in the selected time period.
