Setup The System

This system is standalone with embedded Linux Operating System in the NVR. Just like a desktop PC, need to hook a screen to the NVR to enter the OS .Any TV,monitor with VGA or HDMI input should work for it.

If you connect the NVR with monitor shows Hiseeu logo or shows black,normally it is your monitor resolution is lower then the NVR.You can press the left side of the mouse for 30s,then it will reboot.

If still can’t work,pls change a monitor,thanks.

When you turn on the NVR box, the monitor will get below interface: Setup Wizard- -Down- -General setup- -Next -wireless setup- -Next- -Fast network- -Next -Format the hard drive- -Next

CHECK NVR NETWORK , CHANGE NVR SYSTEM LOGIN PASSWORD

Once you have completed connecting the NVR,wait approximately 2-3 minutes.Next you will see the window below on your monitor screen.For your first time to login in,User name is admin,there is no password,just choose ok to get into the menu.
(if you forget the password,pls find the solution on the FAQ page)

Tips: To protect your privacy,please set your password at earliest convenience(don’t set the password over 8 characters).Right click the mouse→System Setup→System Admin→User to set password.

How to check if your Cloud is online and Network status is healthy ?

Right click the mouse of the register,choose Fast Network.In the middle of the window you should see Cloud status as ONLINE and Network Status as Healthy Network.

If this does not appear, select Manual Config then enable DHCP,Click Apply,then power off the NVR box,wait a few seconds and power up.

Once you power up, repeat the steps outlined as above.Cloud status must be ONLINE and Network Status must be Healthy Network.If this does not happen,you will not be able to view remotely

Click right button→Choose System setup; enter the menu that enables you to do all settings related to this system.

Menu Do What

There are 3 modes for reocrd.

Note: Users can setup any period of time they want,for example 0:00:00-23:59:59,That’s 24 hours×7days recording.When NVR detects hard disk,the default setting will be 24 hours×7 days recording.

The priority of Alarm is higher than that of Motion,and the priority of Motion is higher than that of Time.

Video Playback

Steps: right clik mouse in main menu→Video playback→choose date,channel,record mode→click search→then can view playback file.(IE browser can’t check the playback directly,so you can use the Eseecloud software on computer or check on your phone app Eseecloud and IP RPO)

Warm prompt:

1.IIIustration for playback button: play, pause, fast forward×2,×4,×8

2.Play file:Choose the recording file in file list,as number “1” shown in picture.Choose one of the recording,click “play” to play to recording file;

3.Video backup:Choose the recording file in file list,as number “1” shown in picture.Insert the U flash disk,click “video backup” to backup the file;

4.Timeline: Click “date”and “time”at left bottom to check the timeline of recording,as number “2″ shown in picture;

5.On the timeline with recording file,left click the mouse,the can playback the file.

Notes: you can see four channel cameras playback at the same time,if you want to check other channels you need select the correct channel at first,then choose search to find it playback.

How to Backup the video

Use U disk to copy video,so easy and convenient!

The playback files is avi. format, you can use VLC player to check it on your computer VLC player.

To view on browser,you have to connect the NVR and your computer to the same router.Enter the IP address of NVR on the browser’s address bar.(We recommend using IE or Micorosoft Edge) Right click the mouse→system setup→Network Setup→IP address (Start with 192.168… )
You can change language on the right top corner.

To view on Eseecloud software on PC

Input Cloud ID (Right click the mouse→fast network→Cloud ID)
Input User Name and Password (If you doesn’t change the user name and password,User Name is admin ,no password)

*Select “Add”
*Select “Cloud ID”.enter the cloud ID(9 or 10 numbers).You can find it on your home monitor screen.

* Channels: Input 4 or 6 or 8. If you have 4 cameras,enter 4 etc.
* Click Confirm and you will see the video.

if you check in the local network,you can use the NVR IP address to add the system (Find the IP address on Fast network page or Network setting page)

To View on IE browser

Find the IP address: right click your mouse and choose Fast network, you will see the IP address here.
Enter the NVR’s IP address in your IE browser for example: http://192.168.1.105(If the default WEB port 80 has been changed e.g. to 100,you need to add new port number when input IP address in the browser,for example: http://192.168.1.105:100).

To view on the Phone

Users can use cellphone to scan the QR code below to install the APP free of charge,or users can search “Eseecloud”or ’IP PRO‘ on APP store or Google Play then install the APP.

Click “+”→other ways to add/ scan the QR code on your fast network page→Network connected device→input Cloud ID and User name and password (user name and password is the same one you login in NVR)

Tips: if you’ve set a password on your NVR system,please update your password on APP to view.
And if your camera loading for a long time and don’t show image,you can right click your NVR mouse and choose System Setup→Network setup,change the MTU to 1000.

Playback On Mobiles

In the Eseecloud APP,while viewing live video of the system,click Playback,you will enter the remote playback menu.The APP Playback only check one channel at one time

Tips: Videos in playback are HD mode for real time which requires very good transmission condition.
We suggest to playback in LAN.Remote playback out of LAN may not 100% work due to connection & network condition.

Extend WIFI Range

Wireless connection is easy and convenient, but it’s not universal application. Because of the character of WIFI, the WIFI signal will decrease when going through some obstacles Some methods can be applied to bypass obstacles and extend WiFi range.

Position The Antenna Correctly

WIFI range is like an apple and the antenna of NVR is in the center of it.WIFI signal is strong all around the WIFI range.Antenna of NVR should be put straight up,if not,WIFI signal will be weak.
According to the signal transmission character of antenna, the antenna of cameras should overlap or parallel to NVR WIFI range,as pictures showed below:

Use Antenna Extension Cord to prolong WIFI distance

Note:When WIFI signal is not strong enough against walls,users can take off the original antenna and subtitute antenna extension cord.Drill a hole on the wall to let the extension cord go through and simply it where WIFI signal is strong.

Set up cascading connection in a reasonable solution,extend wifi signal transfer distance

Note:
Repeater function can’t strengthen WIFI signal for wireless NVR kit, but can extend the distance by repeaters→WIFI cameras.

Only when the repeater cameras and repeated cameras are positioned correctly,WIFI distance will be extended.

Repeater function and 3 meters antenna extension cord are two methods to extend WIFI range.
Users can choose one according to real situation.

Repeater Setup

Step 1. Right click the NVR mouse,and choose “Video Manage”- -then left click Repeater”

Step 2. Add repeater
As picture shown below,click icon + besides channel 3,choose other channel.

Step 3. As picture shown below, it means IPC1 is connected to NVR through IPC2 and IPC3.
IPC2 is connected to NVR through IPC3.IPC3 is connected to NVR directly.

Step 4. Click “Apply” and then click “refresh” to check if the setting is successful.

Delete Repeater

Move the mouse to targeted channels,left click to delete,and then click “Apply” and “OK”.

Application Example

As picture shown above, when IPCAM1 is put somewhere is out of NVR WIFI range,and there is IPCAM2 between them with strong WIFI signal,users can put IPCAM1 close to NVR and power it, setup IPCAM1 repeated by IPCAM2, and then install IPCAM1 to the presupposed place.

Camera add failure reasons and solutions

Q1: Failed to add the camera for the first time

Check whether the green light of the camera flashes normally. If the camera status light is not flashing green, use a thimble to lightly insert the configuration hole or long press the reset button until the camera indicator flashes.

Q2: Determine whether the binding failure caused by the router settings

1. The router has been set up to prevent Wi-fi squatter If the Wi-Fi connected to the camera is set to prevent Wi-fi squatter(black and white lists, MAC address filtering, etc.), the camera will not be able to connect to the Internet. The router’s prevent Wi-fi squatter settings need to be canceled.

2. The router is set up with 5GHz band wireless WiFi The camera does not currently support the connection of 5G band WiFi. Please open the router management page (generally marked with the address of the management page on the bottom label of the router), select the wireless setting 2.4GHz, and set it to on.

Q3: Check whether the mobile phone prohibit the permission of  EseeCloud to use data, WLAN, GPS

Domestic Android phones may prohibit the use of data, WLAN, GPS permissions for this application, resulting in the camera being unable to connect to WiFi. Solution (Android phone): Open the phone settings center-click “application management”-open the above permissions

Q4: Make sure that the WilFi account and password are filled in correctly

It is likely that the Wi-Fi account and password you connected to the camera are incorrect, resulting in the camera not being able to connect to the network. In particular, pay attention to whether there is a space input, and try to avoid complex and uncommon symbols.

Q5: Other questions

1. If the router is set to bridge mode, the WiFi signal will be unstable, causing the connection to fail. It is not recommended to use WiFi in bridge mode when the camera is networked.

2. If you are a campus / enterprise user and the school 1 company assigns each student / employee a static IP to access the Internet, you can manually enter the static IP information to access the Internet.At present, this situation is not supported by camera networking, need to select other available WiFi connections.

3. The camera does not support WPA / WPA2’s “enterprise” encryption method to connect the camera to the network. Support WEP, WPA–PSK 1 WPA2–PSK, or corporate WiFi without password. If the camera is networked in the corporate network environment, please confirm in advance whether the WiFi encryption method meets the camera networking requirements.

What should do if the camera is offline?

Q1: Camera offline processing method

1. Check whether your device is power-on and the status light is on;
2. If you are using WIFI connection, please confirm whether you have modified the WIFI in the environment where the device is located-including the WIFI password and name, if modified, please reconfigure WIFl;
3. If the reason cannot be resolved, please restore the factory settings and add the network again.

Log in

This APP support “account log-in”, third-party log-in” and local experience”.
Account log-in: At log-in interface, input user name/cellphone number/email address and password, click ‘0K” and log in.
Third-party log-in: Click the icon of third-party network social software, authorize the APP to log in.Local experience: Users can use the APP without log-in.
Remember the password: Supportremem-berring the account and password that have been logged in, which is convenient for switching account login.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question one：After installation, open the CMS and display “Cannot load plugin”?

Answer one：

1.Please confirm whether the installation path uses Chinese when installing, and the plugin is temporarily not compatible with Chinese path.

2.After confirming the non-Chinese path, if the problem persists, you can contact technical support for assistance.

Question two：After connecting multiple channels of video (more than 30 channels), videos stop for a few seconds , all channels are automatically disconnected into the black screen. The device connected again has no response. Do we need to restart the CMS?

Answer two：The new version of CMS3.0.1 runs with higher memory. If you connect many channels by the lower configuration computer, the computer system will run out of memory, causing the CMS to run abnormally. If the computer configuration is slightly lower, it is recommended not to connect too many channels. The optimization work has been planned for this situation.

Question three：When CMS is installed on the OSX system, it displays “File is corrupted” or “Unable to open” when it is opened?

Answer three：

1.Open “System Settings” → “Security and Privacy” → “Allow applications to be downloaded in the following location”, check “any source” (applies to versions prior to OSX10.12.X);

2.Open “Terminal”, enter the string “sudo spctl –master-disable”, press the “Enter” key, enter the sudo password (applicable to versions after OSX10.12.X). If the above method still does not work, please contact us to help you solve it.

Question four：After starting a window and flashing, it will not start or XP will appear. Open the software to indicate 0a00000000 memory referenced by 0x00000000 instruction. The memory cannot be ‘written’.

Basic Settings

Split screen number：The selected split screen number is displayed after the re-login, and the CMS provides split screen 1/4/6/8/9/16/25/36/49 nine forms of choice.

Display language：CMS currently defaults to 9 display languages, such as Simplified Chinese and English. When you choose to log in again, you will switch to the corresponding language.

Login Method：The cloud login mode is online. You need to connect to the external network when you log in. The local login does not have this hard requirement.

List style：The list style includes tree shape and graphics. The replacement is only the real-time preview interface and the display of the device list under the playback interface. The device list under other interfaces is unified into the tree list style.

Path modification：

①Screenshot path: The screenshot file is saved in the snapshot folder by default, and can be saved in other paths according to its own needs.

②Local recording path: The local recording file is saved in the record folder by default, and can be saved in other paths according to its own needs.

③Video download path: The files downloaded by the playback video are saved in the video_download folder by default, and can be saved in other paths according to their needs.

Preview sync time：Check the time when the device is previewed and the computer will be automatically synchronized (only ipc is supported)

note：After modifying the settings, click “Finish” and you will need to log in again. (It is best not to modify it to a directory containing Chinese)

Time zone setting：The local time zone can be selected according to the actual situation.

Automatic lock：Check the auto lock and enter the integer in minutes in the time frame. If no operation is performed on the CMS within the time of the input, the CMS will automatically lock.

Automatically connect video：After logging in to the auto-connect video, log in to the CMS and automatically connect to the device added to the device list. The number of connected channels is the number of split screens in the basic settings.

③Right-click operation connection/disconnection is consistent with the tree list style. The specific operation can be referenced.

Note：poor performance of the computer will directly affect the smoothness of the preview video. It is recommended that the number of channels connected to the device be gradually increased

Video：

①Click the Record button on the toolbar to enter the video recording status (as shown in Figure 1 below)

②After the video operation, click the record button again to stop recording.

Note：

①The actual recording duration is not equal to the time difference between the start recording time and the end recording time.

②If the device network is interrupted, the recording will succeed but no video file will be saved.

③The channel is maximized or minimized during recording, and the recording will stop.

Cloud storage details

Features

1. What is cloud storage? The cloud storage function is a video storage function developed based on technologies such as moving object detection. Cloud storage is divided into two types: alarm recording and full-day recording. Alarm recording refers to triggering the camera alarm when someone passes by or moves in front of the camera. The camera will automatically record and upload it to the Cloud Space Security Center for encryption. You can use it with confidence.  

 Tips:  

 (1) As long as you purchase the cloud storage service, you can get the corresponding cloud space. For example, if you purchase the cloud deposit monthly package, the cloud space is valid for one month, and it will take effect from the successful purchase. 

(2) The storage time of cloud storage video is determined by the type of package. If you open the cloud storage package for 7 days, the camera cloud video storage period is 7 days. The 30-day cloud storage package will be opened, and the camera cloud video storage cycle will be upgraded to 30 days. If you open a 7G/month cloud storage package, then your cloud recording storage space is 7G in this month. After the space is full, the cloud recording will not be saved. The stored video will be saved for one month.  

 2. What are the advantages of cloud storage? The video is safer: the video cloud storage can not steal, safe and reliable. More efficient viewing: generate alarm video in real time, quickly grasp the alarm situation, the video is clear and smooth without jamming Cloud storage: Camera video is stored in cloud space, no space limit, and unlimited cloud storage space.

Cloud deposit purchase and exchange

1. How to buy a cloud storage package?
Click the device list device “Cloud Record” button or the personal center “Cloud Mall” – enter the “Cloud Mall” interface – click “Switch” to select the device you want to purchase and the device channel – automatically select the appropriate package for you after the selection is completed – click ” Buy now” Once the payment is complete, you can turn on device cloud storage.
Tips:
(1) Cloud deposit does not support return and exchange after purchase, and does not support refund;
(2) The purchase channel of the device is determined by the number of package service channels of the system. If the system has only two packages with service channels 1 and 3, then the device can only select 1 or 3 purchase channels;
(3) Cloud storage is only bound to the purchase user. The device with the cloud storage is deleted and added to the new account. Under the new account, the device will not be able to continue to enjoy the cloud storage;
(4) Cloud storage is purchased by a single device and device channel, and multiple devices and multiple channels need to correspond to multiple cloud storage packages;

2. How to redeem the cloud storage package?
Click the device list device “Cloud Record” button or the personal center “Cloud Mall” – enter the “Cloud Mall” interface – click “Use Cloud Saver Code” – enter the “Scan Redemption Code” interface, scan the valid redemption code – enter the ” redemption code” Payment interface” – select the device and channel to be redeemed – click ” redeem now” to complete the redemption

Tips:
(1) The number of channels for redemption Device is determined by the number of package service channels generated by the redemption code (if the service channel of the redemption code package is 4, then the device can only select 4 channels to purchase);
(2) There is no charge for redeeming the code cloud storage package using the redemption code, and each redemption code can only be used once;

Cloud video introduction

 Cloud recording is divided into two types: alarm recording and full-day recording.

Alarm recording, the video will only be uploaded when the camera detects that someone has passed, the item has been moved, and the camera alarm is triggered.

Recording all day means that the camera will automatically record when it is online and in good condition. It will be detected 24 hours a day and encrypted and uploaded to the cloud space.

The cloud video is lost when the device is deleted, the device uploads the cloud video, and the device is disconnected from the network. The device and the server are disconnected. The device network bandwidth is insufficient and the device cannot upload video and video.

After purchasing the cloud storage package, the cloud recording function will be automatically enabled.

You can click the “Cloud Recording” button corresponding to the device list to enter the cloud recording interface. Click the cloud storage service icon to enter the “Cloud Storage Service” – disable the cloud recording function.

Tips: After the cloud recording function is turned off, the validity period of the cloud storage will not be extended;

Cloud retention period

1.Cloud deposit validity period
Cloud deposits take effect from the date of purchase, that is, the validity period of cloud deposits is: “at the time of purchase” to “the same time point after one month / one year later”. For example, the cloud deposit package of 7 days/month was purchased at 0:00 on April 1, 2019, and the validity period of the cloud deposit is a natural month. It is: 0:00 on April 1, 2019, and O:00 on May 1, 2019.

Tips: The validity period of the channel cloud is the sum of the time of all the cloud storage packages in the channel. For example, channel 1 purchased two 7-day/ month cloud storage packages at 0:00 on April 1, 2019, then the cloud storage validity period is: 0:00 on April 1, 2019, and June 1, 2019. 0:00 on the day.

2. Can the cloud validity period be suspended?
Cloud storage is timed from the date of purchase, and will not stop during the time. after the user purchases the cloud storage, the action of deleting or stopping the uploading of the video can not affect the cloud expiration time

Cloud storage renewal

1. How to renew the cloud deposit package?
(1) Conditions for cloud surviving fee: The current device has purchased the cloud storage channel to purchase or renew the cloud storage package;
(2) Process of cloud surviving fee: Click the device “Cloud Recording” to enter the cloud recording interface click the “Cloud Storage Service” icon to enter the cloud storage service – select the channel to renew the fee – click the “Renew Now” button below to enter the cloud mall interface – Select the channel and package for renewal of the device – click on the renewal fee immediately to complete the renewal.

Tips: When you are renewing, if the renewal plan are using the package and the other channels of the package meet the renewal conditions, it will default to select previous package and channel.

Cloud storage migration

1. Unbound cloud service migration

(1) Conditions for migrating cloud services: The current account has a cloud storage service of unbound devices;

(2) Migration cloud service process:
After the device is added successfully, if the device meets the service migration conditions, the migration prompt box is displayed. After confirming, select the service that needs to be migrated to the newly added device, and click “Migration”.

If the device is a single-channel device, the device migrates directly to the device list interface. If the device is a multi-channel device, you need to select the number of channels equal to the number of services to migrate.

2. Offline device cloud service migration
(1) Offline device cloud service migration conditions: the current account has offline devices that have been bound to the cloud service;
(2) Migration process:
After the device is successfully added, if the device meets the service migration criteria, the migration prompt box is displayed. After the determination, the device iumps to the miaration interface.

b. Select an offline device to migrate. If the offline device is multi channel, you need to select the migrated device channel.

If the device is a single-channel device, the device migrates directly to the device list interface. If the device is a multi-channel device, you need to select an equal number of channels to migrate.
Tips: Do not migrate all day recording cloud services to NVR devices

FAQ

When added by LAN or cloud lD,indicate “device is not online” or “device is not registered”

1.Please make sure the network is normal and already enable DHCP on router.

1.Suggest to use original power adapter. If use other adapter with the power is not stable,the device may be damaged.

Step 1: Unbox the appliance which should contain the following items

• Spot IVR Appliance
• 2 x Ethernet Cables
• Power Cord

Note: The serial number printed on the spot sticker will start with “sn”.

Step 2: Finding and connecting to the network where your existing cameras are connected to

Find your cameras and follow the ethernet cord.  It should lead you to a network switch or the back of your existing NVR. 

Once you have found the network switch where your camera is connected, use the ethernet cord provided with the IVR to connect the IVR to the network switch. Plug the power cord into the back of the Spot AI IVR and plug it into an appropriate outlet. 

Note: Make note of the serial number printed on the Spot sticker, it will start with “sn” and will be needed later.

Important: Please be sure to press the power button on the front of the Spot Appliance to power it on. 

Congratulations – you have powered on your Spot AI IVR, found your camera network, and connected the Spot AI IVR to the camera network.

Step 3: Ensuring the IVR has an internet connection

1. Log in to the Spot AI Dashboard at https://dashboard.spotai.co

2. Navigate to the Configure link at the top of the page and then click on Locations

3a. If the location isn’t created, click on ‘Create a New Location’, enter the location details, and then click Save and Continue.  On the next screen, enter the serial number starting with “sn”, and click Register Appliance.  We provide an example of what the serial number will look like in the text field and you can find it on a sticker placed on your appliance.

3b. If the location is already created, click on Edit, and under Appliances enter the serial number of the appliance that you just installed (starting with “sn”) and click ‘Register Appliance’.

Here’s a quick video walking you through setting up a new location:

If you get two green check-boxes as shown in the image above, you have completed installing the appliance – Congratulations!  

Step 4: If the appliance shows “Not connected”

The “Not connected” message on a freshly started appliance may indicate that there is more than one subnet in your network.  For example, the cameras might have an IP address of 192.168.x.y, whereas other equipment may have an address of 10.0.a.b.  Typically this is seen with having more than one switch in the environment.  In this situation, connect the second ethernet cable to the Spot AI appliance’s second ethernet port (at the back of the appliance) and connect the other end to your router or a switch with outbound internet connectivity.

If you are unsure of how to find your router or a switch with outbound internet connectivity, please contact your network administrator or Spot AI Support.

Once ethernet is connected at both ends, wait for 3-5 minutes for the green checkbox to appear indicating that the Appliance is “connected”.

If it still shows “Not connected”, it may be an issue with the firewall. Use this guide to verify there are no firewall rules that need to be opened.

Step 5: Add cameras.

Important: Please connect all Appliances for the location before moving on to adding cameras.

This will allow the cameras to be automatically load-balanced between all appliances at the location.

Setting up Dual Network Interfaces

Overview

The appliance comes equipped with two Ethernet ports at its rear. If the first Ethernet link connecting the appliance to the camera network lacks internet access, you can utilize the second Ethernet port to connect the appliance to a different network that provides internet connectivity. This facilitates secure access to camera feeds via the appliance without leaving the cameras exposed to the internet (For an illustration of this, refer to our Recommended Topologies article).

 

Both Ethernet ports on the appliance are interchangeable. It doesn’t matter which port is connected to the camera switch or the internet.

 

Steps to configure Dual NIC

Setting up the physical connections

Step 1: Plug one of the Ethernet ports of the appliance into a network that provides internet access.

Step 2: Connect the remaining Ethernet port of the appliance to the camera network.

If DHCP is accessible on both sides of the Spot appliance, no additional configuration is needed. However, if a static IP needs to be set up on one or both interfaces, refer to this article.

NTP Server on the IVR

Overview

Network Time Protocol (NTP) is a protocol that synchronizes the clocks of computer systems over packet-switched networks. NTP is used to ensure that the clocks of all systems on a network are within a few milliseconds of each other. This is important for applications that require accurate timekeeping, such as video surveillance.

The Spot Appliance has a built-in NTP server that can be used to synchronize the clocks of cameras that are isolated from accessing the internet. This can be helpful for the physically isolated topology recommended by Spot AI.

Configuration

To configure NTP on a camera, you will need to do the following:

1. Identify Spot Appliance’s IP address: Obtain the IP address of the Spot appliance.
2. Access Camera Configuration Page: Navigate to the camera configuration page using the Remote Camera Proxy.
3. Update NTP Settings: Locate the NTP configuration settings. Enter the IP address of the Spot appliance as the NTP server.

4. Set NTP Interval: Ensure that the NTP interval is set to a value between 10 and 60 minutes.

Once you have configured NTP on the camera, the camera’s clock will be synchronized with the clock on the Spot Appliance. This will ensure that the time stamps on the video footage are accurate.

Guide to Assigning a Static IP Address to Spot IVR

While Spot IVR is pre-configured to acquire an IP address automatically via DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol), you also have the option to assign a static IP address manually. This guide will walk you through the process of assigning a static IP address to your Spot IVR, and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each method.

 

Comparing DHCP and Static IP

Here are the key differences between DHCP and Static IP:

Steps to Assign a Static IP

To configure a static IP for your Spot IVR, follow these steps:

Step 1: Access Spot IVR’s local troubleshooting page (refer to this article for guidance).

Step 2: Scroll to the “Network Interfaces and Configuration” section at the bottom of the troubleshooting page.

Step 3: Set the IP, gateway, and DNS.

• The static IP address should be in CIDR format, e.g., 172.22.222.5/24, where 172.22.222.5 is the IP address assigned to the IVR and /24 represents the subnet. Contact your Network Administrator for assistance finding an available IP address in your network.
• The gateway is the IP address of the router upstream from the IVR, likely the device that provides your internet connection. In this example, we use 172.22.222.1.
• The DNS server translates human-readable names (like google.com) into machine-readable IP addresses (like 216.58.195.78). Reliable public DNS servers include Google (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4), OpenDNS (208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220), and Cloudflare (1.1.1.1, 1.1.1.2). For redundancy, set two different servers.
• If the static IP is intended for the IVR to access the internet, ensure the DHCP toggle is turned off. If DHCP remains on, the IVR will attempt to use a DHCP-provided IP for internet access, even if there is no DHCP address.
• Public IP addresses cannot be statically configured on the Spot IVR.

Step 4: Save the changes by clicking on ‘Save Configuration’

• It may take a minute or two for the changes to be applied to the IVR. Once enough time has passed, refresh the page to see the new IP configuration.

Note: If a static IP address is configured and DHCP is not toggled off, the Spot IVR will prefer a DHCP IP address over a static IP address when reaching out to the internet and Spot AI Dashboard, even if there is no DHCP address received on that interface.

Understanding Camera Discovery Process with Spot IVR

How Spot IVR Discovers Cameras

Spot IVR uses a process called ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) to discover cameras. ARP is a layer 2 networking protocol that is used to resolve IP addresses to MAC addresses. When Spot IVR sends out an ARP broadcast, it is asking for the MAC address of the device with the specified IP address. If the device responds to the ARP broadcast, Spot IVR can then identify the manufacturer of the device.

 

For Spot IVR to be able to auto-discover a camera, they need to be in the same broadcast domain. A broadcast domain is a group of devices that can communicate with each other directly. If the camera is on a different subnet, Spot IVR will not be able to discover it automatically.

 

Once a camera has been discovered, it will be listed on the Spot dashboard. The dashboard will also display the manufacturer of the camera. If the camera is not identified, it will still be listed on the dashboard, but it will be hidden behind a “Show # Other Devices Found” button.

 

The number of ARP broadcasts that Spot IVR sends out depends on the size of the subnet. For example, if your network is a /24 subnet, Spot IVR will send out 253 ARP broadcasts every 30 seconds (254 usable addresses minus which is assigned to the Spot IVR). If your network is a /16 subnet, Spot IVR will send out 65533 ARP broadcasts every 30 seconds. Spot IVR does not send ARP broadcasts for subnets that are /15 or bigger.

 

Here are some additional details about how Spot IVR discovers cameras:

• Spot IVR sends out ARP broadcasts every 30 seconds.
• The number of ARP broadcasts that Spot IVR sends out depends on the size of the subnet.
• For subnets that are /15 or bigger, Spot IVR does not send ARP broadcasts.
• If a camera does not respond to an ARP broadcast, it will not be discovered by Spot IVR.
• If a camera is on a different subnet, it will not be discovered by Spot IVR automatically.

Here are some tips for troubleshooting camera discovery issues:

• Make sure that the camera is connected to the same network as the Spot IVR.
• Make sure that the camera is turned on and that it is configured correctly.
• Try restarting the camera and the Spot IVR.

Troubleshooting an offline Spot AI Appliance

If your Spot AI Appliance is displaying as registered but disconnected on your dashboard, this signifies that the appliance is offline. Being offline restricts the ability to record live video, review past footage, or integrate additional cameras with the appliance. In order to troubleshoot this issue, we recommend the following steps:

Note: We use Appliance and IVR interchangeably.

1. Power Connection Verification: Ensure that the power cord is properly inserted into the appliance’s rear and is also connected to a functional power outlet.
2. Network Connection Verification: Check that a network cable is securely fastened to the back of the appliance and connected to an active internet source. Ensure the activity lights on both ends of the Ethernet cable are operational.
3. Firewall Configuration: If this is your first time setting up the appliance, review our Knowledge Base article on firewall configuration. Confirm that the correct outbound ports and IPs have been permitted through your firewall.
4. Appliance Reboot: Use the power button to turn off the Spot AI Appliance by pressing it for 1 second. Do not depress the button for more than 3 seconds, and do not pull the power cable to reboot. Wait for 30 seconds before turning it back on. Allow 2-3 minutes for the system to fully reboot.

   Note: a reboot requires on-site presence, as the IVRs cannot be rebooted remotely.

5. Hard Drive Activity Check: If rebooting doesn’t restore the connection, look for the hard drive activity light located near the power button on the appliance’s front. If this light is not blinking or illuminating, reach out to our Support team.
6. ISP Modem and Firewall Reboot: Sometimes the ISP modem will cause issues with the Spot Appliance talking to the internet. This could be due to old modem hardware, misbehaving software, or something else. Rebooting will give it a fresh start and clear out any old cookies or caches.
7. Network Cable Port Switch: If the appliance only has one network connection, remove the network cable from the current port on the Spot AI appliance and insert it into the alternative port (the appliance has 2+ network ports).

The Spot Appliance is online when two green check marks appear on the dashboard.

 

If, after implementing all the recommended troubleshooting steps, your appliance remains disconnected, please contact our Support team. Be prepared to provide the appliance’s serial number, which can be found on a white sticker starting with ‘sn’.

Accessing the Spot AI Appliance’s Local Troubleshooting Page

The Spot appliance has a built-in local troubleshooting page that can be used to configure network settings and perform basic troubleshooting. There are a few different ways to access the appliance’s local troubleshooting page.

Remote Access

To connect to the appliance’s troubleshooting page remotely:

1. Navigate to dashboard.spotai.co
2. Click on the Configure at the top of the page
3. Go to Locations on the left menu
4. Select Edit for the location with the appliance
5. Select Appliances on the top menu
6. Select Troubleshoot
7. Make sure the toggle is set to Remote and click Connect to Remote Appliance

Local Access

There are two main ways to connect to the appliance’s troubleshooting page locally:

A. Using the Serial.Local Address

To connect to the appliance’s troubleshooting page locally:

1. Navigate to dashboard.spotai.co
2. Click on the Configure at the top of the page
3. Go to Locations on the left menu
4. Select Edit for the location with the appliance
5. Select Appliances on the top menu
6. Select Troubleshoot
7. Make sure the toggle is set to Local
8. Make note of the appliance’s password in #3 as it will be required to get in
9. Navigate to the URL in #2 where it says “Navigate to https://sn4b-abc123.local/www” by clicking it
10. Once the page comes up, enter the password to access the page

B. Using Static Fallback IPs

If both Remote access and the serial.local address fails, there are unique pre-configured static IPs built into each network interface. To find the IPs configured to the specific appliance:

1. To locate these IPs, follow steps 1-7 under Remote Access and select “Local.”
2. You’ll find “Wire Connection 1” and “Wire Connection 2” listed with two IPs each.
3. The motherboard ethernet port (surrounded by USB ports) corresponds to “Wire Connection 1.” For Spot Business P340, “Wire Connection 2” represents the PCIe card ethernet port below.
4. Note down the IPs listed on the Dashboard.
5. Temporarily adjust your computer’s IP to match the first three octets of the appliance’s static IP and set the fourth octet to be one less. Set the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0.
   • Example 1: If the appliance’s static IP is 10.170.50.220, change your computer’s IP to 10.170.50.219.
   • Example 2: If the appliance’s static IP is 192.168.78.70, change your computer’s IP to 192.168.78.69.
6. Finally, try to access the IPs retrieved from the Dashboard using the format: https://[IP Address]/www (e.g., https://10.170.50.220/www or https://192.168.78.70/www).

How to check which NVR license and features you have

1. First login to your Spot AI Dashboard: http://dashboard.spotai.co
2. Once in the Spot AI Dashboard, click on the Maintain tab in the main navigation
3. On the Maintain screen, click on the Appliances tab.
4. From here, if you look at the Appliances screen, your appliances’ serial numbers will be listed in the leftmost column. Find the prefix (the 3–4 characters in the serial number before the dash) and refer to the table below

Anyway, there is range limitation for the wireless signal from NVR. When cameras are out of this range, they can’t be connected to NVR wirelessly. Then users can use network cable to connect cameras and NVR.

Wireless NVR can’t be connected to Wireless router wirelessly at present. They can be only connected by network cable.

Setup The System

This system is standalone with embedded Linux Operating System in the NVR. Just like a desktop PC, need to hook a screen to the NVR to enter the OS. Any TV, monitor with VGA or HDMI input should work for it.

© Install antennas for cameras and the NVR;

0 Connect a screen to the NVR via its HDMI or VGA port(HDMI and VGA cable not included);

0 Plug the NVR to power(use bigger 12V 2A power adapter;

0 Plug cameras to power(use smaller 12V 1A power adapters);

0 Within seconds, you should see camera’s images on the screen;

0 Plug the mouse(included)to an USB port on back of NVR. You shall then be able to operate on the system.

In the OS you can find fullest functionalities including live view, record, playback, video backup and all settings.

Default ID: admin Password: none (means leaving the password empty, just click login). Tips: To protect your privacy, please set your password at earliest convenience.

Right click the mouse^Go to System Setup^System Admin -^User Management to set password.

>HD Install

The system may not include hard disk depending on the kit you selected, the NVR works most 3.5″ SATA HDD or 2.5″SATA HDD

Q Unplug your NVR from power,unscrew and remove the top cover.

Q Connect the SATA power and data cables from the NVR to the corresponding ports on your HDD (as shown).

Q Holding the hard drive and the DVR ,gently turn it over and line up the holes on the hard drive with the holes on the NVR. Using a phillips screwdriver,screw the provided screws into the holes and assemble the cover.

Note: New HDD have to be formatted before recording.

To get better Wireless signal, it had better place the NVR in open area and high position.

Network Setup

Wireless NVR supports wired internet and wireless Internet two ways to access the Internet (supported by some models). The two Internet access modes are set as follows:

Wired internet access: Connecting NVR with network cable to the router will automatically obtain network settings for automatic internet access. When the network cable is plugged in, NVR will give priority to wired internet access. Wireless internet access: Right mouse button -system settings-in the network settings interface, if “wireless internet access” option is in the lower left corner, indicating that the model supports wireless internet access, and can set wireless internet access according to the figure below. After connecting to the network, you can use mobile app to add cloud ID for remote monitoring.

Before leaving factory, NVR kit is already matched code, the image will come out when the kit is powered. If you need to add it again, Please delete the corresponding channel in the “Video Management” interface and add it as follows:

Step 1: Plug NVR and cameras to power, after NVR start, right click mouse -Wireless add–match-code interface, NVR will search camera under matching code model automatically.

Step 2: Wireless IP Camera has two kinds, including camera with RJ45 connector and camera without RJ45 connector, their way to match code as below: ® For camera with RJ45 connector, after start, use network cable to connect with NVR, match code automatically, no need to restore.

® For camera without RJ45 connector, after start, hold the bottom line of camera for 5 seconds to get into match code mode, it will match code automatically, no need connect network cable.

Step 3: When you can find IP address of camera on screen, matching code complete, click “Exit” to finish.

Notes: For camera without RJ45 connector, its process of getting into

matching code will last 10 minuets. After 10 minuets, please restore camera to get into matching code model again.

Wireless connection is simple and convenient, but wireless is not a panacea! Because of the nature of wireless, decided in some complicated scenarios, there is a signal attenuation after passing through the obstacle.Following Some methods can circumvent obstacles and increase the signal transmission distance.

p Position the Antenna Correctly

As can be seen from the gain graph of the rod antenna below,The signal coverage of the antenna is similar to an apple. The antenna is located in the center of the apple and surrounds the antenna.The signal is strong, and the upper and lower ends of the antenna are recessed, and the signal is weak.

According to the transmission characteristics of the antenna to the signal, in order to ensure the optimal image transmission effect of the wireless set, Claim:

ft NVR and IPC antennas should be placed in high places, not on the walls, metal, Obstructions such as glass affect the signal to diverge outward.

ft The antenna of IPC should be placed in parallel with the NVR antenna to maximize the respective radiation direction angles.In contrast, the maximum coverage of the signal is formed, as shown in the following figure.

Notes: When wireless signal is not strong enough against walls, users can take off the original antenna and subtitute antenna extension cord. Drill a hole on the wall to let the extension cord go through and simply put it where wireless signal is strong.

farming kit Purpose of the guide

This guide will show you how to set up your Gamut or Hikvision farming/breeding kit from the beginning. There will be some differences depending on the specific equipment you have but the basic idea of a bridge system is (starting from the camera):

1. Camera sends data to the ‘secondary site’ Wi-Fi bridge (via the PoE injector)
2. ‘Secondary site’ Wi-Fi bridge sends data to the ‘Home’ Wi-Fi bridge (via wireless connection)
3. ‘Home’ Wi-Fi bridge sends data to the internet router (via the PoE injector)
4. Internet router sends data to computers/phones/tablets via local connection or internet

Unless you have requested that your bridges are not pre-configured, we have probably set them up for you so that they can be connected up immediately. Even if they don’t seem to work, do not press the reset button on the bridges as this will erase all of the settings and will mean the bridges have to be set back up. Before You Begin

It is highly recommended that you set up everything inside the same room first, and make sure the whole kit is working before anything is mounted in place. If you encounter any issues during setup it will be far easier to resolve if all of the equipment is in the same room. To configure this system, you will need a computer with an Ethernet (LAN) port.

Let’s get started

First, you need to wire everything up so that it is powered on and connected like the below diagram. The PoE port on the PoE injector needs to be connected to the WAN port on the Wi-Fi bridge. You will know it is the correct port if the LEDs on the side of the bridge light up to show it is powered on.

Wi-Fi Bridge Panels

Depending on what bridges you have ordered you will have either Comfast or Ubiquity branded panels.

Pre-Configured Wi-Fi Bridges

If the bridges have been pre-configured, we will almost always set the bridges to have IP addresses ending in .200 and .201. The bridge ending in .200 will be set up to be connected to your internet router (via the LAN port on the bridge OR the PoE injector), and the one ending in .201 will be connected to your camera. So for example if your internet provider is BT, your first bridge will have an IP address of 192.168.1.200. If you are with Sky or Virgin it will be 192.168.0.200.

There will always be a label on the back of each bridge with the IP address that has been assigned to it, your label will look similar to this:

You will need to use a PC and enter the IP address of the bridges to make sure they are pairing. Just open your internet browser and type in the IP address into the address bar. If the login page loads for each address then we know the bridges are connected to each other. If the login page doesn’t load for the bridge ending in .201 then it is likely a connection issue between the bridges. If the login page doesn’t load for either address then it is likely an issue with the bridge ending in .200. If it seems like there is an issue, don’t forget to check that everything is wired up correctly and powered on.

Adding a recorder to the system

If you have a recorder as well, you should add it after setting up the camera. Most modern systems can automatically recognise when a camera is added from the same manufacturer, but the use of Wi-Fi bridges or network switches can cause issues with this, so when setting up one of our farming packs it is highly recommended to set the camera up by itself first, then manually add it to the recorder whilst it is all still in the same room.

Configuring the system

Once you have confirmed that the bridges are paired, the next step is to download the software for your camera and set it up. Choose which type of camera you have below and read our guide online for more on how to do this. If you are using a recorder you can follow the guides in much the same way, using the recorder as the ‘device’ to be added to the your phone or tablet, rather than the camera.

If you are using a Hikvision device, it is best to set the camera up first using a computer, then set up the Hik-Connect remote viewing service via a computer, then simply download the app onto your phone and log into your account. Follow the instructions below to do so.

Installation

Once this is all done, you will need to use the wiring diagram and start to install all the equipment and put it all in place. If you are subscribed to one of our support subscription packages we can set up a DNS address for you which creates an alternative, more direct and often more reliable connection to your equipment than the free remote viewing services provided by Gamut or Hikvision. This is not essential but if you are interested get in contact with the Helpdesk team and they can book you in for a remote setup session.

3. First-time Setup

3.1. NVR Installation

HDD Installation

IMPORTANT: Your system will not be preinstalled with a hard disk drive (HDD) unless the system was specifically purchased with an included HDD. You may install a SATA HDD between 500GB and 4TB of storage after receiving your system. We recommend Western Digital Caviar Green AV-GP hard drives or Seagate Pipeline hard drives that are specifically engineered for use in security camera environments. We also suggest that you make your purchase from an official reseller (such as Newegg.com, Tiger-Direct, and Best Buy) to ensure the quality of the HDD.

For the following HDD installation instructions, you will need:
1) Your NVR system
2) A SATA Hard Drive
3) 4 silver Phillips screws (provided)
4) 7 black Phillips screws (provided)
5) A Phillips screwdriver (not provided)

1. Make sure your NVR is unplugged from its power source and slide the top panel off of the NVR.

2. Connect the SATA power and data cables from the NVR to the corresponding ports on your HDD (as shown):

3. Once connected, place the HDD into the NVR with the cables placed as shown.

4. Holding the hard drive and the NVR, gently turn it over and line up the holes on the hard drive with the holes on the NVR. Using a Phillips screwdriver, screw the provided screws into the holes.

5. Slide the NVR panel back on and locate the 5 black Phillips screws (found in kit). Apply the screws in the three holes on the back panel, and the two holes on the sides.

6. When you power on your system, you will see a popup asking you to format your HDD. Press [OK] and wait 5-10 minutes. NOTE: If you do not see this popup, please manually format your HDD by going to the Disk Drive Info page (for more instructions, please refer to 4.1 Main Menu Detailed).

7. The system will begin formatting the HDD, and will automatically reboot once the formatting is complete.

Connecting your NVR

1. Connect your analog cameras directly to the system with the correct cables as shown. For detailed instruction, please refer to 3.2 Camera Installation.

2. Connect your display to the appropriate display input. For detailed instruction, please refer to 3.1 NVR Installation – Connecting the Display.

3. Connect your system to a nearby power outlet with the provided power adapter as shown.

4. Connect your USB mouse to the corresponding input as shown.

5. Connect your NVR system to your wireless router with the provided Ethernet cable as shown.

Connecting an External Alarm

NOTE: A large portion of the installation of an alarm will vary based on the type of alarm. Because of this, the following instructions are not comprehensive, and will have to be supplemented by specific instructions for your desired external alarms/systems.

Prior to installation, please locate the alarm input and output ports on the back panel of your NVR. The following instructions will show you how to plug in the wires from the external system to the NVR.

1. Push the orange tab on the alarm port (with your finger nail or pen) in order to open the spring-loaded connection.

2. With the orange tab pushed in, insert the bare wire from your alarm about 1/8-1/4 inches into the port.

3. Let go of the orange tab and the port should clamp onto the cable. Give the wire a light tug to ensure that it is securely clamped. .

3.2. Camera Installation

Connecting the cameras to the NVR

1. Remove the cameras from the packaging and set it near the NVR.

2. Connect all four cameras to the NVR using the provided sPoE cables by plugging one end to the Ethernet port of the cameras and one end to the port on the back of the NVR.

3. Power on and login to your NVR using the default user ‘admin’ and the default password ‘111111’. Once you have logged in, your system will attempt to add your cameras automatically. Please wait 3-5 minutes for this process to complete. If your system has not automatically added the cameras, proceed to step 4 for manual setup.

4. Access the main menu [  ] by moving your cursor to the bottom left of your screen. When the main menu appears, select and open the [Device Management].

5. Click the [Add Device] option on the left, then click [Auto Add] to automatically search for IP cameras. Please wait 3-5 minutes for the system to automatically add all of the cameras.

6. Once you see a live video stream, your setup is complete! If you were unable to perform any of the steps, please refer to 5.1 Troubleshooting in the user manual.

Mounting the Camera

IIMPORTANT: Please complete the instructions for “Connecting the cameras to the NVR” prior to mounting your cameras.

The following steps provide instructions to mount the camera on a drywall.

You will need:
1) IP camera
2) Mounting Bracket (not provided)
3)3 screws with 3 anchor screws (provided)
4) Power drill (not provided)

1. Choose a location. Find a suitable location to mount your IP camera.

2. Mark screw locations. Using a pencil and the holes in the mounting bracket as a guide, mark three holes against the wall where you wish to mount the camera.

3. Drill holes. With a drill bit slightly smaller than the green plastic anchor screw, drill a 1″ deep hole in each of the three marked locations.

4. Insert anchor screws. Place the anchor with the closed end evenly into the hole. Gently tap the open end until the anchor is almost flush with the wall.

5. Attach the camera to the mounting bracket. Fasten your camera to the mounting bracket using either the hole found on the top or bottom of the camera. Rotate until the camera is securely attached to the mounting bracket.

6. Mount the camera to the wall. Align your mounting bracket with the anchors and slowly screw the bracket onto the wall with the 3 screws provided.

7. Adjust the camera position. To adjust the camera position, loosen the nob on the bracket by turning it counterclockwise and adjust the camera accordingly. When the desired camera position is achieved, tighten the nob by turning it clockwise.

 

3.3 NVR First-Time Startup

Power on your NVR and double-click anywhere on the screen. On the login screen, a Startup Wizard will appear to help you quickly setup your NVR. Please follow the on-screen instructions to quickly and easily configure basic settings on your NVR.

Startup Guide Explained

Network Time Protocol: When enabled, the NVR system will automatically set the date and time settings through the internet connection. If you do not enable this, you will need to manually input the date and time in the corresponding forms.

Name, phone, email: This information is added to the default administrator account of your NVR system.

3.4 Home Screen Introduction

The home screen is the main screen of your NVR, displaying the live-video stream from the connected cameras. There are several viewing options available locally on your NVR. By default it will be set to the quad-screen view with the live-video streams from all four camera feeds. To access the new quick-menu, move your cursor to the bottom of the screen using your mouse or press the menu button on your remote.

The quick-menu includes the following options:

Main Menu

Use the main menu to access all of the full features of the NVR. Refer to 4.1 Main Menu Detailed for more information and specific instructions.

New Notification

When your NVR has an update or an urgent message (i.e. missing HDD, motion detection, alarm triggering, etc.) a notification will appear in your quick-menu. Click on the new notification icon to view more details.

Single View

This option enables you to quickly view one camera feed in full-screen. Click on the icon to select the camera feed to view. For further live-video viewing options, refer to 4.1 Main Menu Detailed – General Settings – Display Settings.

Quad View

Quickly toggle the viewing mode to four simultaneous channel feeds.

Playback

Review and backup surveillance footage from this menu. Refer to 4.2 Camera Controls for more details.

Logout / Shutdown

Logout of your current user profile or shutdown the system. Administrator permission will be required to shutdown.

4. Using the NVR

4.1 Main Menu Detailed

Use the main menu to access all of the full features of the NVR. The following chapter will explain how to navigate and perform the features through the menu.

General Settings

Use the General Settings menu to manage accounts, change the date & time, change the live-video streaming options and settings, view the system events log, view hard disk information, view and upgrade your firmware and restore your device to factory settings.

Account Management

This NVR supports multiple user profiles with different permissions, which allow you to share video surveillance without worrying about unpermitted tampering with the system settings, playback files, etc.

The system can support up to 16 accounts, with two different account types:

Administrator: Has full access to all features of the NVR and full permission to change all settings.

Operator: Can only view the live-video stream.

Managing your user accounts by simply highlighting a user account from the menu and selecting a function to perform.

Date & Language

Use this menu to change the date & time settings and the language settings of your NVR.

NTP Enabling the Network Time Protocol (NTP) allows the system to automatically set the date and time of your system. This requires an internet connection.

Sync Camera Time The NVR will automatically update your camera’s date and time settings to match that of your NVR.

Language Choose a different language for your NVR system to display.

Display Settings

The NVR offers several options to best customize the content displayed on the home-screen of your NVR.

Channel Select a channel display to customize. Each channel can display a specific channel name and the current time.

IMPORTANT: When changing the settings on a channel, press [Save] before editing another channel or exiting the page otherwise all changes will be lost.

Channel Name You may set a name to describe the camera feed on your NVR. For example, if you have set up a camera in the front yard on channel 1, you could name it “Front Yard”.

Channel Time Select this option to display the current date and time on the channel feed.

Enable Auto Sequence Selecting this option will activate sequential viewing. In sequential viewing, the NVR will automatically cycle between certain channel feeds. You may change the duration of each sequence and select which feeds to cycle through under this menu.

System Log

The NVR will provide notifications when certain events occur. Such events could be, but are not limited to: a missing hard drive or hard drive failure, activated motion sensors, activated alarms, etc. Use this menu to review the system log of all event notifications.

Series Numbers the events in sequence

Type Describes the type of notification (Alarm / System)

Start Time The time when the event occurred.

Event Gives detailed description of the notification, e.g. Mo = Motion; 02 = motion captured on channel 2; alarm = type of notification.

Disk Drive Info

This menu allows you to review important HDD information, format HDD’s and change it’s settings.

Hard Disk Drive Full Defines how the NVR will behave when the HDD is full. When the HDD has reached its storage capacity, the NVR will either stop recording or overwrite the older playback files. The overwrite feature is generally recommended.

Refresh Update the HDD information shown on the page.

Total Space The total available storage space on the HDD in the NVR.

Free Space The amount of storage space left on the HDD in the NVR.

Format In order to format a drive, select it from the menu and press [Format]. The system will automatically format the HDD.

System Settings

Use this menu to view and change basic settings and information of the NVR. From this menu, you may enable the startup guide, change the display resolution, view system information, upgrade the NVR firmware and reset the system to factory default settings.

Startup Guide Check this box to enable the startup guide to appear (refer to 3.3 NVR First-time Startup). The startup guide will appear the next time the system is powered on.

Please refer to the following instructions to upgrade the firmware from the system (required: a USB drive).

1. Download the updated firmware from the website on your computer.

2. Place the file onto the root directory of a USB drive.

3. Connect the USB drive to the USB port on your NVR.

4. Go to the [General Settings] menu in the Main Menu and access the [System Settings] page.

5. Select [Upgrade] and wait 5-10 minutes.

Device Management

Use the Device Management menu to manage the IP cameras connected to the NVR.

Add Device

Search and Add All Devices Automatically Check this box to enable the automatic search and add functions of the NVR. If there are empty channels, the NVR will automatically search and add nearby cameras.

Please wait 3-5 minutes for this process to be completed.

Search for Devices Select to search for devices with the same protocol. A pull up menu will appear for you to manually select the devices to add.

Auto Add Will prompt the system to automatically search for and add devices.

Add Device Manually Allows you to add a specific device by inputting the MAC address and port information.

Refresh Refresh the page to update camera information.

Delete Device Select a channel and press [Delete Device] to remove the camera assigned to the corresponding channel.

Adding a device:

You will have four options different methods to add a device:

1) The system will automatically search for and add devices if you leave the [Search and Add All Devices Automatically] option selected.

2) Prompt the system to automatically search for and add devices by selecting [Auto Add].

3) Press [Search for Devices] to open a list of available cameras and manually select the desired cameras to add to the system.

4) Press [Add Device Manually] to add the device by inputting the specific MAC address of the connected camera.

Video Stream Settings

Adjusts the video quality, frame rate, resolution and streaming bit rate

Channel Choose the channel that you would like to change the settings for.

IMPORTANT: When changing the settings on a channel, press [Save] before editing another channel or exiting the page otherwise all changes will be lost.

Local Video Stream Changes the video streaming settings for devices that are connected to the NVR locally (devices that are connected to the same internet connection as the NVR).

Network Transmission Stream Changes the video streaming settings for devices that are connected to the NVR remotely (devices that are connected through 3G/4G or a different internet connection than the NVR).

Video Quality Change the overall quality of the video. Increasing the quality also increases the bandwidth used.

Frame Rate (FPS) This changes the number of pictures (frames) per second that make up the video stream. The higher this value, the smoother and better the video quality is, however increasing this value also increases the bandwidth.

Resolution Change the resolution of the video stream. QVGA=320×240.

Streaming Bit Rate This is the type of bit rate that the NVR uses to view video from the camera. VBR stands for the variable bit rate, and CBR stands for the constant bit rate—CBR is higher quality than variable, however it uses more bandwidth.

Video Mask

The NVR allows you to mask / hide certain areas of your camera feed from recording and monitoring.

To create an area to mask you must first select the channel to edit and check [Enable]. Select an area by clicking and dragging down and to the right with your cursor. A gray box will appear. Remove the selected areas by right-clicking on the box. After you are done, press [Save] and proceed to other channels or return to the home-screen.

Network Settings

Basic Settings

Selecting DHCP will allow the NVR to manually configure the IP address and network parameters.

The settings on this page enable access to the NVR over the internet. Unless you are an advanced user, we do not recommend that you change these settings. These definitions are not sufficient for manual networking and configuration.

Web Port This designates the port used when accessing the NVR through a web browser.

Video Port This designates the port that the video feed is transmitted over.

Mobile Port This designates the port used when accessing the NVR through a smart phone or mobile device.

DDNS

NOTE: For advanced users only. Router port-forwarding is required. Use this page to set up a DDNS (Dynamic DNS Server) for remote surveillance, please refer to the knowledge base for full instructions.

UPNP

UPNP (Universal Plug and Play) is a protocol used to establish network connectivity and interaction between devices. Enabling this feature will allow easier network connectivity.

NOTE: The UPNP settings for the device are not the same as the UPNP settings on your router and do not pose the same security risks.

NOTE*: For advanced users only. We do not recommend that you change any settings under this page without prior networking knowledge. Event Management

This NVR system is specialized for 24/7 continuous recording, and will automatically mark recordings that are triggered by “critical events” (motion detection and alarms) in the playback menu. Use this menu to define “critical events” and best optimize recording and storage on the system.

Record Mode

The system has two available recording modes:

The basic recording profile will record continuously at full frames. This means that all recorded video files will be high quality, and the HDD will be able to store less footage at one time.

The intelligent recording profile will automatically manage the recording to optimize storage capacity. During scenes of interest when “critical events” are triggered, the NVR will automatically record in full frames to ensure higher quality. During stationary scenes, the NVR will record at a lower framerate to optimize storage capacity.

Motion Detection

This NVR supports advanced motion detection features for bolstered security. Please follow the following instructions in order to properly configure and setup the motion detection functions.

IMPORTANT: When changing the settings on a channel, press [Save] before editing another channel or exiting the page otherwise all changes will be lost.

1. Choose a channel to edit. Select a channel under the dropdown menu next to [Channel] and select the box next to the channel in order to turn on motion detection.

2. Customize schedules for motion detection. The NVR allows you to set up to 4 different time periods for motion detection. To activate a time period, input the desired values and select the box to the right of the corresponding time period.

a. You can either manually configure a schedule for each day by selecting the day in the [Week] dropdown menu, or you can apply the schedule to multiple days at once by selecting [Apply to].

b. Once changes have been made, always press [Save] before navigating to another page or editing schedules for another day otherwise the changes will lost.

3. Select the motion detection area. Using the motion detection grid, define a motion detection area by left-clicking on a square. Click-and-drag to toggle large areas. You may adjust the sensitivity of the motion detection with the [Sensitivity] drop-down menu.

4. Define how the system responds when motion is detected. There are four different responses that the system can take when motion is detected. NOTE: The system will automatically record video when motion is detected.

a. “Alarm Sounding Buzzer” The NVR’s built-in buzzer will sound.

b. “Alarm Output” The NVR will activate any external alarms that have been connected to the back panel (see: 3.1 NVR Installation – Connecting an External Alarm).

c. “Alarm Duration” will adjust how long both the buzzer and the alarm output will sound after motion is detected. NOTE: The alarm will sound continuously while motion is being detected.

d. “Snapshot” The NVR will take a snapshot and send it to your mobile device and email address (when configured).

e. “Send E-mail” The NVR will send an email notification. The NVR comes with predefined server settings for common service providers, however you may need to specify your own settings if your provider is not included. Choose an email address using the specified service provider to send the email and input the corresponding password to the existing email address.

f. “Alarm Interval” This setting defines the interval between motion detection notifications. For example, when set to 1 minute, the NVR will send an email notification every minute when motion is detected.

5. Save and then select another channel to configure. If you do not save prior to selecting another channel, all changes will be lost. You may also restore setting defaults by pressing [Default].

External Alarm

The NVR supports up to four external alarm inputs and one external alarm output. External alarm inputs may include, but are not limited to motion detectors, trip wires, door sensors, etc. External alarm outputs may include, but are not limited to sirens, visual alarms, silent alarms, etc.

Please follow the following instructions to properly configure the external alarm features.

IMPORTANT: When changing the settings on a channel, press [Save] before editing another channel or exiting the page otherwise all changes will be lost.

1. Choose an alarm to edit. In the dropdown menu, choose an alarm and select [On] to enable the alarm input. Choose the type (normally open or normally closed) that describes your specific alarm.

2. Customize the active period for your alarm. The NVR allows you to set up to 4 different time periods in which your alarm will be considered active. To activate a time period, input the desired values and select the box to the right of the corresponding time period.

a. You can either manually configure a schedule for each day by selecting the day in the [Week] dropdown menu, or you can apply the schedule to multiple days at once by choosing the [Apply to].

b. Once changes have been made, always press [Save] before navigating to another page or editing schedules for another day otherwise the changes will lost.

3. Define how the system responds when an alarm is triggered. There are three possible responses when an alarm is triggered. Choose an option by selecting the box next to it. NOTE: The system will automatically record video when an alarm is triggered.

a. “Buzzer” The NVR’s built-in buzzer will sound.

b. “Alarm Output” The NVR will activate any external alarms that have been connected to the back panel (see: 3.1 NVR Installation – Connecting an External Alarm).

c. “Alarm Duration” will adjust how long both the buzzer and the alarm output will sound after motion is detected.

d. “Send E-mail” The NVR will send an email notification. The NVR comes with predefined server settings for common service providers, however you may need to specify your own settings if your provider is not included. Choose an email address using the specified service provider to send the email and input the corresponding password to the existing email address.

Alarm Input Select the channel of the input alarm that you would like to edit. Select “On” to enable this alarm.

Type Select the type of alarm that you are using. Please refer to your alarm’s manual if you are unsure of this.

4.2 Camera Controls

WWhen on the home screen, you can access the NVR’s camera controls by double-clicking on the desired channel feed and a blue menu will appear as shown. The icons represent the three control features: image settings, zoom, and playback.

Image Setting

This will adjust the image settings of the camera from the NVR. NOTE: This will affect everyone connected to the NVR.

Image Orientation: Change the image orientation.”Flip” will flip the image vertically, “Mirror” will flip the image horizontally, and “Flip and Mirror” will apply both functions.

First Icon: Adjust the brightness settings of the camera.

Second Icon: Adjust the color saturation of the camera.

Third Icon: Adjust the contrast settings of the camera.

Zoom

Selecting this will bring you into the zoom-in mode. Use the scroll wheel to zoom in and out, and click on areas of the screen in the bottom right corner to select viewing areas. Right click to exit out of the view.

Playback

Access and review your surveillance footage from this menu.

Video Playback

1. Select the channel of your recording on the right panel under “Channel”. When you select a channel, it will be highlighted in blue.

2. Select the month and year on the calendar in the right panel. The days that are highlighted in blue will have recordings available. Select one of the days.

3. Use the Playback Controls to playback video.

Backup

The system allows you to backup specific files from your machine onto an external USB drive. The following instructions will show you how to find specific files on your system to backup.

1. Select the channel of your recording on the right panel under “Channel”. When you select a channel, it will be highlighted in blue.

2. Once a channel is selected, select a month and year on the calendar. The days that are highlighted in blue will have available recordings. Select one of the days.

3. Under “Event” choose which type of recording that you want to search for. You can choose normal, alarm triggered or motion triggered recordings only, or you can choose all recordings.

4. Choose the time frame that your recording will fall under. For example, if you are looking for a video file that was recorded at 3:00 a.m. you will specify the time frame 0:00-6:00.

5. Press [Search]. If your NVR has saved any recordings during this time frame, they will appear in the menu.

6. Select all of the videos that you would like to back up, and press [Back up]. Wait for the progress bar to complete for each video file.

7. Repeat steps 1-7 for video files under different channels, days, events, time frames, etc.

4.3 Remote-viewing Setup

Remote viewing allows you to access your NVR from any location in the world for unprecedented surveillance versatility using any Android or iOS mobile device with our ‘Zsight’ application installed. With our revolutionary user-friendly setup, we have eliminated the need for complex port-forwarding procedures and other networking hassles. Our product servers will automatically authenticate and configure your hardware for remote-viewing. The following instructions will guide you through the remote-viewing setup:

Minimum Requirements:

Android or iOS mobile device with wireless/3G/4G internet connection

‘Zsight’ Application downloaded on your mobile device.

1. Locate the NVR information on the outer casing of your system.

2.Connect your mobile device to the same local network as your NVR. Please make sure your mobile device is connected to the internet through the same wireless router as your NVR.

3. Open the Zsight app on your mobile device and select the [+] icon. Open the ‘Zsight’ application and the device will automatically enter a ‘Device List’ section. Tap the [+] on the upper right hand corner to open the ‘Add Device’ menu.

4. Add your NVR by scanning the QR code found in step 1. There are three available methods to add your NVR device. We recommend that you add your device with the [Scan QR code] function or by manually inputting the NVR ID from step 1.

a. To scan the QR code, open the [Scan QR code] function by pressing the button as shown in the pictures. Point your camera at the QR code on your device and hold it steadily until it scans successfully.

b. Find the 10-digit device ID obtained from Step 1. Manually input the ID in the appropriate form on the ‘Zsight’ application.

5. Login with the default user ‘admin’ and default password ‘111111’. Once you have successfully added the system, a login screen will appear. Enter the default password ‘111111’ or your password if you have changed it, and tap [Submit].

6. Select your system from the device list to view the live video stream. Go back to the ‘Device List’ section and select your device from the list. Make sure that a live video stream from your NVR appears.

7. Disconnect from your wireless network and access the NVR using 3G/4G. Connect your mobile device to a different internet connection from your NVR (3G/4G or any other wireless connection) and repeat step 6. Our product servers will automatically authenticate your NVR for remote-viewing capabilities.

8. Your device is now activated for remote surveillance! You will now be able to view your NVR on any Android or iOS device with internet connection! In order to do so, repeat steps 3-6 on the desired device (for step 4, you will need to add your system through the NVR ID). Congratulations! Thank you for choosing Zmodo!

4.4 Updating your NVR

From your NVR (via USB)

Please refer to the following instructions to upgrade the firmware from the system (required: a USB drive).

1. Download the updated firmware from the website on your computer.

2. Place the file onto the root directory of a USB drive.

3. Connect the USB drive to the USB port on your NVR.

4. Go to the [General Settings] menu in the Main Menu and access the [System Settings] page.

5. Select [Upgrade] and wait 5-10 minutes.

The new firmware will be used from 7X.9.0.X, which makes the NVR experience faster, more responsive, more stable and more delightful. And lots of optimization are based on it.

2. Disk Settings

Ensure your NVR has been installed and the HDD has been initialized.

Please check it on ‘Storage’ -> ‘Disk’ interface. When the HDD is first installed on the NVR, you need to click ‘Initialize’ to initialize the HDD. When the status shows ‘Normal’, you can start recording settings.

3. Continuous Record Settings

If you want to configure continuous record, please refer to the following two ways.

(1) Configure on monitor:

a. Select ‘Storage’→‘Record schedule’.

b. Select channel and click ‘Continuous’ button.

c. Drag a square in the time table to set record effective time. It is convenient for you to set or clear all corresponding schedule by clicking “Select All” or “Clear All”.

Or you can click “Edit” to edit schedule. Select Day, Record Type and Time to finish editing.

(2) Configure on web:

a. Select ‘Storage’→‘Record schedule’.

b. Select channel and click ‘Continuous’ button.

c. Set the record schedule. It is convenient for you to set or clear all schedule by clicking “Select All” or “Clear All”.

After the configuration is complete, the NVR will start recording. You can directly refer to the steps in [5. Check recording files on playback interface] to view the video files.

4. Event Record Settings

If you want to configure event record, please refer to the following steps.

Step1. Record schedule settings

There are two ways to configure.

(1) Configure on monitor:

a. Select ‘Storage’→‘Record schedule’.

b. Select channel and set the record schedule.

You can drag a square in the time table to set record effective time. It is convenient for you to set or clear all corresponding schedule by clicking “Select All” or “Clear All”.

Or you can click “Edit” to edit schedule. Select Day, Record Type and Time to finish editing.

(2) Configure on web:

a. Select ‘Storage’→‘Record schedule’.

b. Select channel and then set the record schedule. It is convenient for you to set or clear all schedule by clicking “Select All” or “Clear All”.

Note:

1) If you set continuous record for a period of time, there will be continuous recording, and includes event recording during this time.

2) If you set event record for a period of time, there will be only event recording(including Motion Detection, Alarm and Smart Event) without continuous recording during this time.

3) If you set Motion Detection/Alarm/Smart Event record for a period of time, there will be only Motion Detection/Alarm/Smart Event recording without continuous recording during this time.

Step2. Alarm action settings

Take ‘Motion Detection’ as an example, there are two ways to configure.

(1) Configure on monitor:

a. Select ‘Event’→‘Motion Detection’.

b. Select channel , Sensitivity and enable Motion Detection. Set the area for triggering motion detection.

c. Set Effective Time of motion detection by clicking “Edit”(Effective Time). It will be more convenient by clicking “Select All” or “Clear All” to set or clear all time settings.

d. You can also click “Edit”(Action) to set other alarm actions, such as Audible Warning, Email Linkage, Event Popup, Alarm Output and so on.

(2) Configure on web:

a. Select ‘Event’→‘Motion Detection’.

b. Select channel , Sensitivity and enable Motion Detection. Set the area for triggering motion detection.

c. Set Effective Time of motion detection by clicking “Edit”(Effective Time). It will be more convenient by clicking “Select All” or “Clear All” to set or clear all time settings.

d. You can also click “Edit”(Action) to set other alarm actions, such as Audible Warning, Email Linkage, Alarm Output and so on.

Note:

Effective Time is enabled by default. As long as this schedule is enabled, the NVR can receive alarms from the camera side. If you want to customize the time that the NVR receives alarms from the camera side, you can manually edit Effective Time.

After the configuration is complete, the NVR will start recording. You can directly refer to the steps in [5. Check recording files on playback interface] to view the video files.

5. Check the recording status

After the configuration is complete, you can check the recording status on Live View interface and Status interface.

(1) Check on monitor:

① Check on Live View interface

If there is an icon as first one displayed in live view, it indicates that the current channel is recording.

If there is an icon as second one displayed in live view, it indicates motion detection alarm.

If there is an icon as third one displayed in live view, it indicates smart event alarm and alarm input.

② Check on Status interface

Go to ‘Status’ -> ‘Camera Status’ interface, if the current channel is recording, it will show “On” on record bar.

Go to ‘Status’ -> ‘Event Status’ -> ‘Camera Event’ / ‘Alarm’/ ‘Smart Event’ interface, you can check Camera Event here, including Motion Detection, Smart Event and Alarm Input. The icon will turn into red when the corresponding alarm is triggered.

(2) Check on web:

① Check on Live View interface

If there is an icon as below displayed in live view, it indicates motion detection alarm.

② Check on Status interface

Go to ‘Status’ -> ‘Camera Status’ interface, if the current channel is recording, it will show “On” on record bar.

Go to ‘Status’ -> ‘Event Status’ -> ‘Camera Event’ / ‘Alarm’/ ‘Smart Event’ interface, you can check Camera Event here, including Motion Detection, Smart Event and Alarm Input. The icon will turn into red when the corresponding alarm is triggered.

6. Check recording files on playback interface

Select ‘Menu’→‘Playback’ interface, there are two ways to check recording files.

(1) Playback on monitor:

General Playback:

a. Select General Playback as playback type.

b. Select Stream Type and channels you want to do playback.

c. Select date, the day with blue and red letters means that there are record files.

d. Every channel will get their own file bar.Currently there will only display continuous recording with blue file bar on the general playback interface as shown below.

Note:

If you want to check event recording, please check [Event Playback] as shown below.

Event Playback:

a. Select Event Playback as playback type.

b. Select Stream Type and channels you want to do playback.

c. Select Event Type.

d. Select Start Time and End Time, click “Search” to search the record.

e. Click “Search”, It would list all videos on the right side of the playback interface.

f. Set pre playback and post playback time, then play the video by clicking “Play” button.

There will display event recording with red file bar on the event playback interface as shown below.

(2) Playback on web:

a. Select Stream Type and channels you want to playback.

b. Select date, only the day with a red mark means that there are recorded files. Click “Play” button to play.

c. The tool bar can display continuous and multi-event record. It shows that in this record period what kind of event has happened. The symbolic meaning of each color is shown below:

Blue — Continuous

Red — Event, including Motion Detection, Alarm, Smart Event.

3. First-time Setup

3.1. NVR Installation

HDD Installation

IMPORTANT: Your system will not be preinstalled with a hard disk drive (HDD) unless the system was specifically purchased with an included HDD. You may install a SATA HDD between 500GB and 4TB of storage after receiving your system. We recommend Western Digital Caviar Green AV-GP hard drives or Seagate Pipeline hard drives that are specifically engineered for use in security camera environments. We also suggest that you make your purchase from an official reseller (such as Newegg.com, Tiger-Direct, and Best Buy) to ensure the quality of the HDD.

For the following HDD installation instructions, you will need:
1) Your NVR system
2) A SATA Hard Drive
3) 4 silver Phillips screws (provided)
4) 7 black Phillips screws (provided)
5) A Phillips screwdriver (not provided)

1. Make sure your NVR is unplugged from its power source and slide the top panel off of the NVR.

2. Connect the SATA power and data cables from the NVR to the corresponding ports on your HDD (as shown):

3. Once connected, place the HDD into the NVR with the cables placed as shown.

4. Holding the hard drive and the NVR, gently turn it over and line up the holes on the hard drive with the holes on the NVR. Using a Phillips screwdriver, screw the provided screws into the holes.

5. Slide the NVR panel back on and locate the 5 black Phillips screws (found in kit). Apply the screws in the three holes on the back panel, and the two holes on the sides.

6. When you power on your system, you will see a popup asking you to format your HDD. Press [OK] and wait 5-10 minutes. NOTE: If you do not see this popup, please manually format your HDD by going to the Disk Drive Info page (for more instructions, please refer to 4.1 Main Menu Detailed).

7. The system will begin formatting the HDD, and will automatically reboot once the formatting is complete.

Connecting your NVR

1. Connect your analog cameras directly to the system with the correct cables as shown. For detailed instruction, please refer to 3.2 Camera Installation.

2. Connect your display to the appropriate display input. For detailed instruction, please refer to 3.1 NVR Installation – Connecting the Display.

3. Connect your system to a nearby power outlet with the provided power adapter as shown.

4. Connect your USB mouse to the corresponding input as shown.

5. Connect your NVR system to your wireless router with the provided Ethernet cable as shown.

Connecting an External Alarm

NOTE: A large portion of the installation of an alarm will vary based on the type of alarm. Because of this, the following instructions are not comprehensive, and will have to be supplemented by specific instructions for your desired external alarms/systems.

Prior to installation, please locate the alarm input and output ports on the back panel of your NVR. The following instructions will show you how to plug in the wires from the external system to the NVR.

1. Push the orange tab on the alarm port (with your finger nail or pen) in order to open the spring-loaded connection.

2. With the orange tab pushed in, insert the bare wire from your alarm about 1/8-1/4 inches into the port.

3. Let go of the orange tab and the port should clamp onto the cable. Give the wire a light tug to ensure that it is securely clamped. .

3.2. Camera Installation

Connecting the cameras to the NVR

1. Remove the cameras from the packaging and set it near the NVR.

2. Connect all four cameras to the NVR using the provided sPoE cables by plugging one end to the Ethernet port of the cameras and one end to the port on the back of the NVR.

3. Power on and login to your NVR using the default user ‘admin’ and the default password ‘111111’. Once you have logged in, your system will attempt to add your cameras automatically. Please wait 3-5 minutes for this process to complete. If your system has not automatically added the cameras, proceed to step 4 for manual setup.

4. Access the main menu [  ] by moving your cursor to the bottom left of your screen. When the main menu appears, select and open the [Device Management].

5. Click the [Add Device] option on the left, then click [Auto Add] to automatically search for IP cameras. Please wait 3-5 minutes for the system to automatically add all of the cameras.

6. Once you see a live video stream, your setup is complete! If you were unable to perform any of the steps, please refer to 5.1 Troubleshooting in the user manual.

Mounting the Camera

IIMPORTANT: Please complete the instructions for “Connecting the cameras to the NVR” prior to mounting your cameras.

The following steps provide instructions to mount the camera on a drywall.

You will need:
1) IP camera
2) Mounting Bracket (not provided)
3)3 screws with 3 anchor screws (provided)
4) Power drill (not provided)

1. Choose a location. Find a suitable location to mount your IP camera.

2. Mark screw locations. Using a pencil and the holes in the mounting bracket as a guide, mark three holes against the wall where you wish to mount the camera.

3. Drill holes. With a drill bit slightly smaller than the green plastic anchor screw, drill a 1″ deep hole in each of the three marked locations.

4. Insert anchor screws. Place the anchor with the closed end evenly into the hole. Gently tap the open end until the anchor is almost flush with the wall.

5. Attach the camera to the mounting bracket. Fasten your camera to the mounting bracket using either the hole found on the top or bottom of the camera. Rotate until the camera is securely attached to the mounting bracket.

6. Mount the camera to the wall. Align your mounting bracket with the anchors and slowly screw the bracket onto the wall with the 3 screws provided.

7. Adjust the camera position. To adjust the camera position, loosen the nob on the bracket by turning it counterclockwise and adjust the camera accordingly. When the desired camera position is achieved, tighten the nob by turning it clockwise.

 

3.3 NVR First-Time Startup

Power on your NVR and double-click anywhere on the screen. On the login screen, a Startup Wizard will appear to help you quickly setup your NVR. Please follow the on-screen instructions to quickly and easily configure basic settings on your NVR.

Startup Guide Explained

Network Time Protocol: When enabled, the NVR system will automatically set the date and time settings through the internet connection. If you do not enable this, you will need to manually input the date and time in the corresponding forms.

Name, phone, email: This information is added to the default administrator account of your NVR system.

3.4 Home Screen Introduction

The home screen is the main screen of your NVR, displaying the live-video stream from the connected cameras. There are several viewing options available locally on your NVR. By default it will be set to the quad-screen view with the live-video streams from all four camera feeds. To access the new quick-menu, move your cursor to the bottom of the screen using your mouse or press the menu button on your remote.

The quick-menu includes the following options:

Main Menu

Use the main menu to access all of the full features of the NVR. Refer to 4.1 Main Menu Detailed for more information and specific instructions.

New Notification

When your NVR has an update or an urgent message (i.e. missing HDD, motion detection, alarm triggering, etc.) a notification will appear in your quick-menu. Click on the new notification icon to view more details.

Single View

This option enables you to quickly view one camera feed in full-screen. Click on the icon to select the camera feed to view. For further live-video viewing options, refer to 4.1 Main Menu Detailed – General Settings – Display Settings.

Quad View

Quickly toggle the viewing mode to four simultaneous channel feeds.

Playback

Review and backup surveillance footage from this menu. Refer to 4.2 Camera Controls for more details.

Logout / Shutdown

Logout of your current user profile or shutdown the system. Administrator permission will be required to shutdown.

4. Using the NVR

4.1 Main Menu Detailed

Use the main menu to access all of the full features of the NVR. The following chapter will explain how to navigate and perform the features through the menu.

General Settings

Use the General Settings menu to manage accounts, change the date & time, change the live-video streaming options and settings, view the system events log, view hard disk information, view and upgrade your firmware and restore your device to factory settings.

Account Management

This NVR supports multiple user profiles with different permissions, which allow you to share video surveillance without worrying about unpermitted tampering with the system settings, playback files, etc.

The system can support up to 16 accounts, with two different account types:

Administrator: Has full access to all features of the NVR and full permission to change all settings.

Operator: Can only view the live-video stream.

Managing your user accounts by simply highlighting a user account from the menu and selecting a function to perform.

Date & Language

Use this menu to change the date & time settings and the language settings of your NVR.

NTP Enabling the Network Time Protocol (NTP) allows the system to automatically set the date and time of your system. This requires an internet connection.

Sync Camera Time The NVR will automatically update your camera’s date and time settings to match that of your NVR.

Language Choose a different language for your NVR system to display.

Display Settings

The NVR offers several options to best customize the content displayed on the home-screen of your NVR.

Channel Select a channel display to customize. Each channel can display a specific channel name and the current time.

IMPORTANT: When changing the settings on a channel, press [Save] before editing another channel or exiting the page otherwise all changes will be lost.

Channel Name You may set a name to describe the camera feed on your NVR. For example, if you have set up a camera in the front yard on channel 1, you could name it “Front Yard”.

Channel Time Select this option to display the current date and time on the channel feed.

Enable Auto Sequence Selecting this option will activate sequential viewing. In sequential viewing, the NVR will automatically cycle between certain channel feeds. You may change the duration of each sequence and select which feeds to cycle through under this menu.

System Log

The NVR will provide notifications when certain events occur. Such events could be, but are not limited to: a missing hard drive or hard drive failure, activated motion sensors, activated alarms, etc. Use this menu to review the system log of all event notifications.

Series Numbers the events in sequence

Type Describes the type of notification (Alarm / System)

Start Time The time when the event occurred.

Event Gives detailed description of the notification, e.g. Mo = Motion; 02 = motion captured on channel 2; alarm = type of notification.

Disk Drive Info

This menu allows you to review important HDD information, format HDD’s and change it’s settings.

Hard Disk Drive Full Defines how the NVR will behave when the HDD is full. When the HDD has reached its storage capacity, the NVR will either stop recording or overwrite the older playback files. The overwrite feature is generally recommended.

Refresh Update the HDD information shown on the page.

Total Space The total available storage space on the HDD in the NVR.

Free Space The amount of storage space left on the HDD in the NVR.

Format In order to format a drive, select it from the menu and press [Format]. The system will automatically format the HDD.

System Settings

Use this menu to view and change basic settings and information of the NVR. From this menu, you may enable the startup guide, change the display resolution, view system information, upgrade the NVR firmware and reset the system to factory default settings.

Startup Guide Check this box to enable the startup guide to appear (refer to 3.3 NVR First-time Startup). The startup guide will appear the next time the system is powered on.

Please refer to the following instructions to upgrade the firmware from the system (required: a USB drive).

1. Download the updated firmware from the website on your computer.

Device Management

Use the Device Management menu to manage the IP cameras connected to the NVR.

Add Device

Search and Add All Devices Automatically Check this box to enable the automatic search and add functions of the NVR. If there are empty channels, the NVR will automatically search and add nearby cameras.

Please wait 3-5 minutes for this process to be completed.

Search for Devices Select to search for devices with the same protocol. A pull up menu will appear for you to manually select the devices to add.

Auto Add Will prompt the system to automatically search for and add devices.

Add Device Manually Allows you to add a specific device by inputting the MAC address and port information.

Refresh Refresh the page to update camera information.

Delete Device Select a channel and press [Delete Device] to remove the camera assigned to the corresponding channel.

Adding a device:

You will have four options different methods to add a device:

1) The system will automatically search for and add devices if you leave the [Search and Add All Devices Automatically] option selected.

2) Prompt the system to automatically search for and add devices by selecting [Auto Add].

3) Press [Search for Devices] to open a list of available cameras and manually select the desired cameras to add to the system.

4) Press [Add Device Manually] to add the device by inputting the specific MAC address of the connected camera.

Video Stream Settings

Adjusts the video quality, frame rate, resolution and streaming bit rate

Channel Choose the channel that you would like to change the settings for.

IMPORTANT: When changing the settings on a channel, press [Save] before editing another channel or exiting the page otherwise all changes will be lost.

Local Video Stream Changes the video streaming settings for devices that are connected to the NVR locally (devices that are connected to the same internet connection as the NVR).

Network Transmission Stream Changes the video streaming settings for devices that are connected to the NVR remotely (devices that are connected through 3G/4G or a different internet connection than the NVR).

Video Quality Change the overall quality of the video. Increasing the quality also increases the bandwidth used.

Frame Rate (FPS) This changes the number of pictures (frames) per second that make up the video stream. The higher this value, the smoother and better the video quality is, however increasing this value also increases the bandwidth.

Resolution Change the resolution of the video stream. QVGA=320×240.

Streaming Bit Rate This is the type of bit rate that the NVR uses to view video from the camera. VBR stands for the variable bit rate, and CBR stands for the constant bit rate—CBR is higher quality than variable, however it uses more bandwidth.

Video Mask

The NVR allows you to mask / hide certain areas of your camera feed from recording and monitoring.

To create an area to mask you must first select the channel to edit and check [Enable]. Select an area by clicking and dragging down and to the right with your cursor. A gray box will appear. Remove the selected areas by right-clicking on the box. After you are done, press [Save] and proceed to other channels or return to the home-screen.

Network Settings

Basic Settings

Selecting DHCP will allow the NVR to manually configure the IP address and network parameters.

The settings on this page enable access to the NVR over the internet. Unless you are an advanced user, we do not recommend that you change these settings. These definitions are not sufficient for manual networking and configuration.

Web Port This designates the port used when accessing the NVR through a web browser.

Video Port This designates the port that the video feed is transmitted over.

Mobile Port This designates the port used when accessing the NVR through a smart phone or mobile device.

DDNS

NOTE: For advanced users only. Router port-forwarding is required. Use this page to set up a DDNS (Dynamic DNS Server) for remote surveillance, please refer to the knowledge base for full instructions.

UPNP

UPNP (Universal Plug and Play) is a protocol used to establish network connectivity and interaction between devices. Enabling this feature will allow easier network connectivity.

NOTE: The UPNP settings for the device are not the same as the UPNP settings on your router and do not pose the same security risks.

NOTE*: For advanced users only. We do not recommend that you change any settings under this page without prior networking knowledge. Event Management

This NVR system is specialized for 24/7 continuous recording, and will automatically mark recordings that are triggered by “critical events” (motion detection and alarms) in the playback menu. Use this menu to define “critical events” and best optimize recording and storage on the system.

Record Mode

The system has two available recording modes:

The basic recording profile will record continuously at full frames. This means that all recorded video files will be high quality, and the HDD will be able to store less footage at one time.

The intelligent recording profile will automatically manage the recording to optimize storage capacity. During scenes of interest when “critical events” are triggered, the NVR will automatically record in full frames to ensure higher quality. During stationary scenes, the NVR will record at a lower framerate to optimize storage capacity.

Motion Detection

This NVR supports advanced motion detection features for bolstered security. Please follow the following instructions in order to properly configure and setup the motion detection functions.

IMPORTANT: When changing the settings on a channel, press [Save] before editing another channel or exiting the page otherwise all changes will be lost.

1. Choose a channel to edit. Select a channel under the dropdown menu next to [Channel] and select the box next to the channel in order to turn on motion detection.

2. Customize schedules for motion detection. The NVR allows you to set up to 4 different time periods for motion detection. To activate a time period, input the desired values and select the box to the right of the corresponding time period.

a. You can either manually configure a schedule for each day by selecting the day in the [Week] dropdown menu, or you can apply the schedule to multiple days at once by selecting [Apply to].

b. Once changes have been made, always press [Save] before navigating to another page or editing schedules for another day otherwise the changes will lost.

3. Select the motion detection area. Using the motion detection grid, define a motion detection area by left-clicking on a square. Click-and-drag to toggle large areas. You may adjust the sensitivity of the motion detection with the [Sensitivity] drop-down menu.

4. Define how the system responds when motion is detected. There are four different responses that the system can take when motion is detected. NOTE: The system will automatically record video when motion is detected.

a. “Alarm Sounding Buzzer” The NVR’s built-in buzzer will sound.

b. “Alarm Output” The NVR will activate any external alarms that have been connected to the back panel (see: 3.1 NVR Installation – Connecting an External Alarm).

c. “Alarm Duration” will adjust how long both the buzzer and the alarm output will sound after motion is detected. NOTE: The alarm will sound continuously while motion is being detected.

d. “Snapshot” The NVR will take a snapshot and send it to your mobile device and email address (when configured).

e. “Send E-mail” The NVR will send an email notification. The NVR comes with predefined server settings for common service providers, however you may need to specify your own settings if your provider is not included. Choose an email address using the specified service provider to send the email and input the corresponding password to the existing email address.

f. “Alarm Interval” This setting defines the interval between motion detection notifications. For example, when set to 1 minute, the NVR will send an email notification every minute when motion is detected.

5. Save and then select another channel to configure. If you do not save prior to selecting another channel, all changes will be lost. You may also restore setting defaults by pressing [Default].

External Alarm

The NVR supports up to four external alarm inputs and one external alarm output. External alarm inputs may include, but are not limited to motion detectors, trip wires, door sensors, etc. External alarm outputs may include, but are not limited to sirens, visual alarms, silent alarms, etc.

Please follow the following instructions to properly configure the external alarm features.

IMPORTANT: When changing the settings on a channel, press [Save] before editing another channel or exiting the page otherwise all changes will be lost.

1. Choose an alarm to edit. In the dropdown menu, choose an alarm and select [On] to enable the alarm input. Choose the type (normally open or normally closed) that describes your specific alarm.

2. Customize the active period for your alarm. The NVR allows you to set up to 4 different time periods in which your alarm will be considered active. To activate a time period, input the desired values and select the box to the right of the corresponding time period.

a. You can either manually configure a schedule for each day by selecting the day in the [Week] dropdown menu, or you can apply the schedule to multiple days at once by choosing the [Apply to].

b. Once changes have been made, always press [Save] before navigating to another page or editing schedules for another day otherwise the changes will lost.

3. Define how the system responds when an alarm is triggered. There are three possible responses when an alarm is triggered. Choose an option by selecting the box next to it. NOTE: The system will automatically record video when an alarm is triggered.

a. “Buzzer” The NVR’s built-in buzzer will sound.

b. “Alarm Output” The NVR will activate any external alarms that have been connected to the back panel (see: 3.1 NVR Installation – Connecting an External Alarm).

c. “Alarm Duration” will adjust how long both the buzzer and the alarm output will sound after motion is detected.

d. “Send E-mail” The NVR will send an email notification. Alarm Input Select the channel of the input alarm that you would like to edit. Select “On” to enable this alarm.

Type Select the type of alarm that you are using. Please refer to your alarm’s manual if you are unsure of this.

4.2 Camera Controls

WWhen on the home screen, you can access the NVR’s camera controls by double-clicking on the desired channel feed and a blue menu will appear as shown. The icons represent the three control features: image settings, zoom, and playback.

Image Setting

This will adjust the image settings of the camera from the NVR. NOTE: This will affect everyone connected to the NVR.

Image Orientation: Change the image orientation.”Flip” will flip the image vertically, “Mirror” will flip the image horizontally, and “Flip and Mirror” will apply both functions.

First Icon: Adjust the brightness settings of the camera.

Second Icon: Adjust the color saturation of the camera.

Third Icon: Adjust the contrast settings of the camera.

Zoom

Selecting this will bring you into the zoom-in mode. Use the scroll wheel to zoom in and out, and click on areas of the screen in the bottom right corner to select viewing areas. Right click to exit out of the view.

Playback

Access and review your surveillance footage from this menu.

Video Playback

1. Select the channel of your recording on the right panel under “Channel”. When you select a channel, it will be highlighted in blue.

2. Select the month and year on the calendar in the right panel. The days that are highlighted in blue will have recordings available. Select one of the days.

3. Use the Playback Controls to playback video.

Backup

The system allows you to backup specific files from your machine onto an external USB drive. The following instructions will show you how to find specific files on your system to backup.

1. Select the channel of your recording on the right panel under “Channel”. When you select a channel, it will be highlighted in blue.

2. Once a channel is selected, select a month and year on the calendar. The days that are highlighted in blue will have available recordings. Select one of the days.

3. Under “Event” choose which type of recording that you want to search for. You can choose normal, alarm triggered or motion triggered recordings only, or you can choose all recordings.

4. Choose the time frame that your recording will fall under. For example, if you are looking for a video file that was recorded at 3:00 a.m. you will specify the time frame 0:00-6:00.

5. Press [Search]. If your NVR has saved any recordings during this time frame, they will appear in the menu.

6. Select all of the videos that you would like to back up, and press [Back up]. Wait for the progress bar to complete for each video file.

7. Repeat steps 1-7 for video files under different channels, days, events, time frames, etc.

4.3 Remote-viewing Setup

Remote viewing allows you to access your NVR from any location in the world for unprecedented surveillance versatility using any Android or iOS mobile device with our ‘Zsight’ application installed. With our revolutionary user-friendly setup, we have eliminated the need for complex port-forwarding procedures and other networking hassles. Our product servers will automatically authenticate and configure your hardware for remote-viewing. The following instructions will guide you through the remote-viewing setup:

Minimum Requirements:

Android or iOS mobile device with wireless/3G/4G internet connection

‘Zsight’ Application downloaded on your mobile device.

1. Locate the NVR information on the outer casing of your system.

2.Connect your mobile device to the same local network as your NVR. Please make sure your mobile device is connected to the internet through the same wireless router as your NVR.

3. Open the Zsight app on your mobile device and select the [+] icon. Open the ‘Zsight’ application and the device will automatically enter a ‘Device List’ section. Tap the [+] on the upper right hand corner to open the ‘Add Device’ menu.

4. Add your NVR by scanning the QR code found in step 1. There are three available methods to add your NVR device. We recommend that you add your device with the [Scan QR code] function or by manually inputting the NVR ID from step 1.

a. To scan the QR code, open the [Scan QR code] function by pressing the button as shown in the pictures. Point your camera at the QR code on your device and hold it steadily until it scans successfully.

b. Find the 10-digit device ID obtained from Step 1. Manually input the ID in the appropriate form on the ‘Zsight’ application.

5. Login with the default user ‘admin’ and default password ‘111111’. Once you have successfully added the system, a login screen will appear. Enter the default password ‘111111’ or your password if you have changed it, and tap [Submit].

6. Select your system from the device list to view the live video stream. Go back to the ‘Device List’ section and select your device from the list. Make sure that a live video stream from your NVR appears.

7. Disconnect from your wireless network and access the NVR using 3G/4G. Connect your mobile device to a different internet connection from your NVR (3G/4G or any other wireless connection) and repeat step 6. Our product servers will automatically authenticate your NVR for remote-viewing capabilities.

8. Your device is now activated for remote surveillance! You will now be able to view your NVR on any Android or iOS device with internet connection! In order to do so, repeat steps 3-6 on the desired device (for step 4, you will need to add your system through the NVR ID). Congratulations! Thank you for choosing Zmodo!

4.4 Updating your NVR

From your NVR (via USB)

Please refer to the following instructions to upgrade the firmware from the system (required: a USB drive).

1. Download the updated firmware from the website on your computer.

2. Place the file onto the root directory of a USB drive.

3. Connect the USB drive to the USB port on your NVR.

4. Go to the [General Settings] menu in the Main Menu and access the [System Settings] page.

5. Select [Upgrade] and wait 5-10 minutes.
