For Manually added cameras, if you can see the camera in the List of Online Devices section, then just tick the box for the camera and then click + Add to Device List, which will then automatically add it to one of the channels you disabled Plug-and-Play on in the last step.​

Click on +Add at the top of the page and fill out the fields as follows:​

IP Address: Enter the IP address of your camera, using the ‘Test’ button to verify there is a camera at that address. ​

Device Name: This can be anything you like, as it is the name the camera will show with on your NVR. ​

Protocol: Select the camera’s manufacturer from this list, or failing that, use the ONVIF protocol (your camera will need to have ONVIF enabled for this to work). ​

Management Port: Enter the Server port set on the camera, which you can find in the SADP tool or in Network>Basic Settings>Port in the camera’s web browser interface. If you haven’t changed this, it is usually 8000 by default. ​

User Name: “admin” or the username of any other users set up on that camera. ​

Password: The password set with that user on the camera – if this is the same as the ‘Default Activation Password‘ you have set on the NVR, then you can tick this box instead. ​

Transfer Protocol: ‘Auto’ is normally best. ​

When these are completed, click OK.​

Your camera should then appear in the list of devices with an assigned channel, and an Online status, meaning it has been successfully added.​

Live View – Technical Implementation Details

How TetherX implements live view to be compatible with all manufacturers

Introduction

The quality, latency and smoothness of live view streaming is dictated by many factors:

Available Streams from Cameras

Typically cameras will provide 2 video streams as well as the ability to request a single image. These limitations dictate what is and isn’t possible when it comes to both recording and streaming.

💡 Note: More expensive and speciality cameras will provide additional video streams and custom streams of crops/de-warps of the same image (e.g. 180 or 360 cameras).

The streams are usually accessed through RTSP and the images through HTTP. For example:

Formats

Transcoding vs Proxying

TetherX supports both transcoding and proxying/packaging. The differences between the two are as follows:

Transcoding is a process of taking the stream from a camera, decoding it and then re-encoding it into a different format. This is the ideal method to hit a specific requirement of Internet bandwidth and viewing size, but it is in most cases cost prohibitive as you need power hungry and expensive hardware to achieve.

​For context, a TetherBox Pico capable of recording 10 cameras will only be able to record 2 if transcoding (you can enable transcoding in TetherX by editing a camera and switching to the advanced tab).

Proxying & Packaging is what is used in most cases, where the original video stream is maintained but is packaged into different containers, for example .mp4 for video recording and .ts for local and high-def live streaming (see streaming technologies below).
​

This means that ultimately, you are at the mercy of the camera/recorder. If you need to open 16 cameras and each one is 1mbit, but your upload speed is only 10mbit, it will simply not work because the stream size cannot be adjusted without either:

Video vs Images

TetherX use a combination of images and video to achieve different goals. It is important to understand the differences and advantages/disadvantages of each, which in turn dictate when either is used in TetherX.

The main difference between image and video compression is every image is self contained, where every video frame is part of a stream. While you may skip an image, skipping a frame in a video stream leads to parts of the image breaking / disappearing:

Systems that ignore broken/skipped data (e.g. streaming over UDP) will show a broken image while many systems will simply show a loading spinner while they wait for the next key frame (which is controlled by the key-frame interval set on the camera/recorder, typically set to 1 second, or the same number as fps, but sometimes much longer).

Because each image is self contained, it is typically 5 to 25x larger in bitrate vs video at 25 images per second. It may initially seem obvious that video should be used when accessing remotely, however there are certain important underlying trade-offs that make it a much tougher question which needs to be evaluated on a case by case basis, according to the following:

Live View Streaming Technologies

TetherX uses all mainstream streaming technologies available and choses between them depending on the specific requirements and constraints:

How TetherX Does It

TetherX supports most streaming technologies and switches between them depending on context.

When local streaming (the TetherBox is able to detect if you are on the same network), if we are viewing less than 10 cameras simultaneously TetherX switches to LHLS (see above) to show the primary video stream from each camera at full resolution/frame-rate (assuming your viewing device is capable of displaying this many streams). If this is not working well for you, you are presented with a toggle to switch off High-def streaming to fall back to loading images.

When full screening a camera (double tap/click a camera), we assume you want the higher quality and we switch to the full primary stream. If your connection is not able to sustain this stream, we automatically fall back to loading images.

When viewing multiple sites / cameras over Internet in record mode, we switch to image viewing but we transcode/transize the images depending on the size of each live view box on your screen. This ensures that you are able to view many simultaneous cameras, the latency is lower than video, it automatically adapts to the available bandwidth and it does not impact recording quality. This does however mean a lower fps.

When viewing multiple sites / cameras over Internet in monitor mode, we proxy the connection directly to the image provided by the camera. This leads to a further lowering of fps but ensures the TetherBox can monitor the health of and provide live view of 10x more cameras than in record mode.

How Hikvision iVMS Does it

Because of the constrains outlined above, in order to show smooth video in iVMS (and Dahua PSS) software, if the connection speeds both on site and viewing device cannot accommodate the streams, the software temporarily reconfigures the cameras to send a lower bitrate stream while keeping the resolution the same.

💡 Note: if you happen to kill the software at this point (or lose connection), this can cause the camera to permanently record in lower quality.

Because many cameras or recorders only support a single stream at above D1 resolution, this means that not only is the live view quality reduced, but also the video being recoded which can lead to losing critical video evidence.

In our testing, limiting the connection to 5mbit 200ms upload and streaming just 4 cameras in HD resulted in blocky and usable footage being recorded on the NVR. It also took over 10 seconds to get an initial image, however the motion was smooth (25fps) once loaded.

In comparison when using images (outside of the iVMS/PSS software), the images loaded almost immediately, the image quality was significantly higher, but the frame-rate was poor (3-4fps) – still sufficient for making decisions in a control room setting, but understandably disappointing in smoothness by comparison. (Note: higher fps can still be achieved by full screening a single camera on demand).

When viewing a smaller number of cameras from the same manufacturer on a single PC or phone, it looks impressive to have smooth 25fps video on iVMS/PSS/others. However, when dealing with 100+ or even 32 cameras, from different manufacturers, different firmware versions, with multiple users, across multiple sites, with differing and fluctuating bandwidths, you begin to appreciate the trade-offs and advantages/disadvantages of each approach.

💡 Note: This approach of custom code to adjust Hikvision camera settings to achieve smoother live view is only suitable if you do not care about recording quality and you are optimising for a single manufacturer with compatible models/firmware.

Step 1: Login to your Synology NAS via a browser​

Step 2: Click the Package Center icon​

Step 3: Search for and install the Surveillance Station software (it should be on the home page of the package center, if not you can use the search bar to find it)​

Step 4: Click the Synology main menu at the top left of your screen and open the newly installed Surveillance Station software​

Step 5: Click the IP Camera icon​

Step 6: Click the add button when the new window open and then click add camera from the drop-down​

Step 7: Select Quick Setup and then click the next button​

Step 8: Enter the camera details manually or click the Search icon next the IP Address box​

Step 9: Check both the Synology Supported Cameras and ONVIF lists (some camera models are not directly supported by Synology, but as long as the camera is ONVIF compliant you should be able to add it to the Surveillance Station software)​

Step 10: Select the camera you want to add from one of the lists and click OK​

Step 11: Check that all the camera details are filled in, including the cameras username & password (also give the camera a unique name to help you identify it from other cameras)​

Step 12: Click the Test Connection button and if the test is successful you’ll get a green tick and a live shot from the camera, you can then click Finish and the camera will be added to your Synology NAS​

If the test is not successful you will have to go back and check the camera’s settings are correct, the most common problem is that the camera has an IP address that is not on your network, after you have followed our instructions from a previous video on how to change the IP address you should get a successful connection and be able to add the camera.

[Auto-pairing] WiFi Network Configuration

Note: camera can support 2.4G wifi for the time being, doesn’t support 5Gwifi, plz set the router parameter to2.4G first before configuring network, during the connection, phone,router and camera need keep within the 2m distance

1.Phone connect to the wifi network.

2.Click the “+”in the upper right corner click the “Add WiFi camera” according to the device’s voice prompt, follow the app interface guide to enter router’s password,click “confirm” start to configure network(if the device doesn’t appear voice prompt for a long time, you can long press the reset to restore default, then go on to configure network).

3. Enter the search device’s interface, the device is in the connection process, plz wait.

※ Program search, do not operate other programs ;

※ When the camera prompts “succes  sfully connected to router”, it will automatically go to the next step.

※ The camera fails to hear the prompt “succes sfully connect to router”. Please restore factory Settings and match again.

4. After connecting successfully ,interface will prompt to set device’s password and name for your device, after finishing, follow the app interface guide to complete network configuration .

5. After finishing, device will show in the device’s list, it represent the device is connecting successfully.

6. Click it you can view the monitoring image, and do the relevant operation and setting.

Note: Movement tracking is only for indoor ip cameras , bullet ip camera and dome cameras do not have this function

Note: If the automatic etwork configuration fails, you can choose the following two methods to configure the device

The second type: [Manual configuration] Wired network

1. Long press the camera Reset button for 10 seconds to restore the device to factory settings .

2. Connect your router to camera via network cable.

3. Connect phone to your router wifi network.

4. Login “iCSee” app, click the “+”in the upper right corner, and click “more” in the upper right corner.

5. click “Add the camera on same router.

6. Enter search device interface, click searched camera to add device,device will show in the device’s list, which represent device connect successfully.

7. Click it to view the monitoring image, also can do the relevant operation and setting

Manual configuration: AP netless direct connection mode

When there is no network in the installation environment, please select the following pairing method;

 1. Long press the camera Reset button for 10 seconds to restore the device to factory settings .

2. Short press the camera Reset button 2-5 to enter the direct connection mode (most devices will voice prompt “enter direct connection mode”).

3. Open the mobile phone desktop-settings-wireless network, search for the device wireless hotspot name, Enter the wireless password:1234567890, connect to the wireless hotspot of the device;

Indoor IP Camera hot spot name: robot_xxxx;

Other kind of camera hot spot names: camera_xxxx;

Tips:

AP hotspot mode is only used for installation when there is no network in the environment, and cannot be remotely monitored,can only be accessed within 10 meters of the establishment of the hotspot!

4. Open the ‘iCSee’ APP, and directly add the device in the local direct connection mode.

5. The device is displayed on the device list interface, which means that the device is successfully connected.

6. Click the ‘Play’ button to enter the monitoring screen and perform related operations and settings.

7. If you have already registered an account to log in, please click the “+” sign at the top right, and click the “AP direct connection” mode to add.

How to set up mobile tracking？

Note: Mobile tracking and smart humanoid alert can’t be used at the same time;

●Click the “Mobile Tracking” switch buttonin the preview interface to turn on the corresponding function;

●Motion tracking: when it’s on, as long as an object enters the camera’s illumination range, camera will track the moving trajectory;

●Watch Point: set a fixed position, when the camera is operating or tracking, it will automatically return to the set position after staying for a period of time;

How to set the dual-ligh tal ert mode Star light full color？

Open the ‘iCSee’, click the ‘real-time playback’ , click or slide to the “light” or the “bulb” icon in the screen to open the setting screen;

●Night colored lights：When the light is insufficient, the white light will start, and the image will be colorful;

●Infrared night vision： When the light is insufficient, the infrared light is activated and the image becomes black and white;

●Double light alert：When the light is insufficient, the infrared light will be activated. When someone enters the monitoring screen, the white light will be triggered and the image will be colorful.
After a few seconds when the person walks away, the infrared mode will be switched on and the image will become black and white;

How to s et the humanoid alert function?

Note: Mobile tracking and smart humanoid alert can’t be used at the same time;

Open the ‘iCSee’, click the device real-time playback, click on the upper right button ‘setting’ ，Enter the ‘settings’-smart alarm, open the interface to make related settings.

Add shared device

1. Click “Share” in the device list to pop up the QR code page using the main phone.

2. Log in to the ‘iCSee’ APP with the mobile phone you want to share,
click the “+” sign in the upper right corner of the APP main interface, click “Scan QR code to add a camera” , scan the QR code of the device shared by others or input Add the device serial number (the shared device must be connected to the Internet and successfully
added to the APP).

How to Restore factory settings/AP hotspot switching？

1. Long press the camera ‘Reset ‘ button for 10 seconds, and you can let go when you hear ‘ Restore factory setting,please wait’.

2. Short press the camera Reset button 2-5 to enter the direct connection mode (most devices will voice prompt “enter direct connection mode”).

How to query device serial number and info?

1. Open the ‘iCSee’, enter the real-time playback of the device, click on the upper right setting to enter the setting center-about the device , the QR code can be directly scanned and shared with other family members to watch (the QR code valid time is 30 Minutes); if exceeded, it will automatically expire;

2. If you find that the device time is not synchronized, please click the device time to synchronize it;

HOW TO USE THE CAMERA?

1.Please open the software to register one and log in to your account if you do not have an account.

2.Click “+” > Set up “MY DEVICE” to WiFi

3.Enter your WiFi password. Then click “confifirm” and wait for the camera to connect it.

Notes

* Please reset the device if the camera does not have any voice reminders for more than 180 seconds.

* Please check the WiFi password again and make sure the WiFi channel is 2.4GHz.

* Please do not make the device too far away from the Router.

4.Upon a successful connection, you can set up the name and the password of the camera.

SHARE THE CAMERA：

1.The administrator can send the QR code and password of the camera to the other persons.

2.Scan the QR code by the administrator to share with you and add the camera.

How To Enable IP Camera Offline, Analog Camera Disconnection Notification Alerts

Create an account on your preferred DDNS service provider website and a domain name (which is a hostname for your Camius DVR/NVR or an IP camera). Each of these providers offers free and paid accounts, which you need to select based on your requirements.

You will need to provide your email address and create a password. After verifying your email, you will be able to log in to your dashboard. The process of creating an account with DDNS service providers is similar.

How to connect a LaView Saturn Series IP Camera to a Non-Saturn Series NVR

5a. If you are connecting the camera to the NVR PoE port, set up the Target IP to 192.168.254.xxx (xxx being a random number from 2-254), and Gateway to  192.168.254.1, Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0. Then unplug the camera from the PoE switch or Router and connect it to the NVR using Cat5e cable.

5b. If you are connecting the camera via LAN, use DHCP or set up the IP address to your network range. For example: Target IP 192.168.0.217, Subnet 255.255.255.0, Gateway 192.168.0.1

6. Go the NVR Menu => Camera => Camera.

7. Click on the channel which the camera is connected to (ie if the camera is connected to port 3 on the back of the NVR, click on channel 3). If you are connecting the camera via LAN, Click on any unused channel.

8. Change ‘Plug and Play’ to ‘Manual’ and enter the camera IP address (192.168.254.xxx or 192.168.0.217 as in previous example)

9. Change protocol to ONVIF and Management port is 80

10. Enter user name and password you set up when you activated the camera in step 3.

How to reset LaView Saturn IP Camera

3. Press and hold the reset button for at least 5 seconds until the camera restarts, and then the camera will be restored to factory default settings.

What should I do if I connect a LaView Saturn Camera to LV-N96, LV-N95, LV-N98 series NVR but only get 720P maximum resolution in main stream?

If you only get 720p in mainstream, it means the IP camera is set to H.265. Please use the following instruction to switch the camera to H.264 compression.

The system worked seamlessly until last week when it suddenly shut off and now won’t come back on

Would suggestion you follow the instruction below for troubleshooting,

1.Please ensure the cameras are connected, would suggest you to connect them directly to the PoE ports at the back of the system.

2.At the day time, try to cover the camera lens with your hands to see if there is a IR red light on the problematic cameras. And please also check if the camera goes hot when it is connected.

3.The camera appears not to get powe if there is no light and heat. We will need to check if it is the camera/port/cable issue.

1.At first, please switch the problematic camera to the workable PoE ports to test. You can also go to your PoE Configuration setting to check the power.

2.If it still doesn’t work with another port, please exchange the cable to check again. If possible, you can also add the camera to another system to confirm the problem.

NVR is showing offline on Platform Access menu

In this case, please check the connection between the router and the NVR. Unplug and plug the ethernet cable to make sure the connection is solid. 

Then go to the NVR system, enable ‘DHCP’, “Obtain DNS Server Address” and ‘Platform Access’, disable  ‘DDNS’ and check if the status of the NVR changes from “Offline” to “Online”. Please see the pictures attached as a reference.

If it doesn’t work, please try to reboot the system to see if the issue can be resolved.

How to add Wi-Fi Cam (One PT ) to your NVR

1. Make sure One PT camera and the NVR are well connected to the same LAN. 

2. Enter the camera management menu of NVR, select an unoccupied channel, and click the “Edit” icon to add the camera manually.

3. Make sure the adding method is manual, select the ONVIF protocol, enter the correct IPv4 Address and password of the camera.

4. Click ‘Ok’ to save the settings and then you will be able to view the One PT camera on

your NVR.

Password Reset via XML files

Please find a 12V power adapter to power up your camera. And directly connect this camera to the router with an Ethernet cable if you need to reset the password via XML files.

Please power on the device (NVR/DVR/cameras) and connect it to the router via an ethernet cable first.

Then find the attachment and follow the instructions to export the XML file and send it to us. We will help to generate a key file and send it back to you to reset the password.

Kindly pay attention to the following when you export the file.

1. BOTH THE EXPORTED AND IMPORTED XML FILE IS VALID FOR ONLY 24 HOURS.

2. MAKE SURE THE DEVICE STAYS POWER ON AND ONLINE AFTER EXPORTING THE FILE.

Setup Email Notification

Please refer to the instructions to set up the email notifications. Here I will take the Outlook account as an example. (Sorry that Gmail is not supported anymore, please use other email addresses to set it up.)

First, please go to the Outlook mailbox settings and enable POP option.

Secondly, please go to your camera management settings -> tap into ‘Settings’ -> find ‘Linakge Action’ to enable ‘Send Email’ for each of your camera.

Thirdly, please go to your system menu -> find ‘Configuration’ -> find ‘Network’ -> click the ‘Email’ option and enter the email information:

Set up DDNS

You may follow the steps below to enable the DDNS feature,

1.Log in to http://laviewddns.com/ and set up an account

2.In the NVR interface, enter the correct account and setting in DDNS menu

3.In the router menu, assign Port 80, Port 8000 and Port 8554 to the IP address of the system

4.Go to www.canyouseeme.org to ensure the ports are opened

Set up PC viewing by PT Cloud

If you need to remotely view your system when you are not under the same Wi-Fi, please try to follow the steps below to set up the P2P connection.

Before adding your system to the PC software, please make sure your system is connected to the router(network) and is showing ‘Online’ status. Please go to your system menu -> Configuration -> Network -> PT Cloud/Platform Access to double-check your system’s online status.

Here I will take my NVMS V3 as an example.

1. Go to NVMS V3, go to ‘Maintenance and Management.

2. Click ‘Add’ here.

3. Choose ‘PT COULD’ here.

4. Log in to the LaView Connect app. Go to the ‘More’-> ‘Account Management’. Note down the ‘Username'(which belongs to your LaView P2P account) and ‘Country/Region’ information.

5. Get back the Client Software.

6. After logging in to the PT cloud account, please tap ‘Online’ and search for and choose the online device you would like to add.

7. Input the verification code set in ‘Platform Access’ in NVR and tap the “Add” icon.

8. Then you are good to go now.

9. Go to ‘Main View’ on the Client Software, you are also required to input the same verification code to watch the cameras. Please input the one as #7.

Set up PC viewing by IP address

Please download the PC software NVMS V3 or NVMS 7000 on your laptop to set up PC viewing. Kindly find the tools at this link: http://www.ltsecurityinc.com/downloads

Here are more instructions about the NVMS V3.

In the example, NVMS V3 will automatically detect the online device so we are adding the device with its IP address. In this way, the system and the computer will be requested to connect to the same local network so that the software can auto-detect the online system.

1. Please go to ‘Device Management.

2. Please go to ‘Online device’ and your system will be found automatically.

3. Please choose your system from the online device and click on ‘Add’.

​4. Please enter the admin name and the admin password of your system in the box popping out.

5. Your system should be added and please go to ‘Main View’ on the home page.

No video on monitor

Will need to confirm the resolution of the camera first. Kindly note that the resolution of the monitor should be higher than the camera’s. Otherwise, the monitor will go black. Please get in touch with our LaView Support Team and provide the model number of your camera as well as your system if you do not know the system resolution.

If the monitor and system work fine before but quit working suddenly, please change the HDMI/VGA cable to check this issue.

If you have another monitor, please also exchange it to see if it can work. If necessary, you can also try to access your system on your computer to double-check.

As for PC viewing, please download the PC software NVMS V3 or NVMS 7000 to your computer/laptop to get access. (Kindly find them from this link: http://www.ltsecurityinc.com/downloads) NVMS V3 tool is the latest version. NVMS 7000 can support the Mac system.

I tried to change the name of my camera, but I’m getting “Camera Does not support this function”.

It is possible that there are no cameras connected to that specific channel or the camera has lost connectivity. If you are using a third-party camera it is possible the ONVIF protocol supported by camera is outdated which does not support OSD configuration.

Is it possible to connect a third-party camera to a LaView NVR, or a LaView Camera to a third-party NVR?

Yes, if the third-party devices support the ONVIF protocol and you are using the correct setup for the specific camera.

I’m having issues connecting my NVR to my phone

Possible Fixes:

1.Please go to Menu-Configuration-Network and under the General tab make sure enable DHCP is selected, if it is not enabled then select enable and apply. If you had to enable it, restart the NVR and try the P2P setup again.

2.If you are still having issues, make sure DDNS is NOT enabled(unchecked). If DDNS is checked, uncheck it and apply then go back to Platform Access and disable P2P and apply. Once both are disabled, do a power cycle and reboot the unit. After the unit restarts enable P2P again, and do another power cycle.

3.Go to Extranet Access, Platform Access or DDNS and make sure LaView P2P is selected then apply, also make sure “Enable Stream Encryption” is disabled.

4. If none of these work, then it could be a network issue. Try to restart your modem/router by unplugging it for about 45 seconds. Plug it back in and restart the NVR, then try to reconnect your system to the P2P account.

How Do I find my system’s IP address?

To find your system’s IP address go to Main Menu>Maintenance>System Info>Network. The IPv4 Address at the top is your local IP. If your IP address is 0.0.0.0 or 192.0.0.64, this means your system is offline. There are a few causes from this, but usually, it’s a bad ethernet cable or the cable is not plugged in properly to either the DVR or Router. If those are checked to be correct, try restarting your router by unplugging it for a minute and restarting the DVR.
