Take some time to learn about using your thermal monocular camera through the companion Thermal Connection app.

Live View Settings

The Live View is the first screen you will see when your camera connects to the app. It includes the following features:

Digital Zoom

Zoom in on a certain part of your camera’s image to magnify details.

1.From Live View, tap .

2.Tap your preferred zoom range.

3.Tap OK to save.

Color Palette

Select your camera’s color palette for enhanced visual representations of thermal imaging.

Note: Not all color palettes are suited for every situation. Select the option that best shows the thermal differences for your specific application.

Record Images & Videos

1.From Live View, tap .

2.Tap the screen to display the capture and record icons.

3.To capture images: Tap .

4.To start or stop recording videos: Tap .

Note: A blinking red dot next to a recording timer on the left of the screen indicates that your camera’s recording.

Function Settings

Enable some of your camera’s features, like the laser pointer, fire detection, or track hot and cold points.

Laser Pointer

Use the laser pointer to illuminate a point of interest with a bright spot of colored light.

 LASER RADIATION:

Exposure to laser light can cause significant damage to the eyes. Never look into the laser beam directly or through a piece of optical equipment.

After a few seconds, the laser pointer automatically turns off.

Fire Detection

Detect fires in your camera’s image with a red box surrounding the source. If enabled, you can set the fire detection sensitivity from high to low.

Hot & Cold Points

Track the hottest and lowest temperatures in your camera’s image at the same time. If enabled, your camera’s image will display a red target tracking the hottest point and a blue target tracking the lowest point.

System Settings

Customize your camera’s system settings or sign out.

Automatic Sleep Mode

Select how long your camera waits before entering sleep mode.

Automatic Shutdown

Select how long your camera waits before turning off.

Change Measurement Unit (Meter to Feet)

Change your camera’s measurement unit.

Sign Out

Disconnect your camera from the app by signing out of the app.

Restore to Default Settings

Restore your camera’s menu and app settings to its factory default settings.

ACH20-1B Thermal Monocular Camera: Troubleshooting

The following article provides some troubleshooting tips for using your thermal monocular camera.

Camera’s image/screen is blurry.

Adjust your camera’s diopter to your eyesight. Before you begin, it is highly recommended that you adjust your camera’s diopter to your eyesight. Focusing your view will minimize eye strain and fatigue.

Camera’s Wi-Fi hotspot is not showing.

• Wait a moment for it to appear in your phone’s Wi-Fi settings.

• When enabling your camera’s hotspot in your camera’s settings, try to press  a couple more times.

• Ensure you have allowed the app to use your location, otherwise it will not be able to detect your camera’s Wi-Fi. Navigate to your phone’s settings, then open the Thermal Connection app settings, and enable Location — While Using the App.

Camera is not connecting to the app.

The Wi-Fi password is case sensitive. Make sure you enter the serial number in the same letter format, whether that is uppercase or lowercase.

Camera has disconnected from the app.

Camera’s Live View is frozen in the app.

If the Live View is frozen perform a hard close of the app, then open it again.

Digital zoom is not working.

Digital zoom will not work while your camera’s menu is open. Press  to exit the menu.

Camera is not recording images and videos.

Recording images and/or videos will not work while the menu is open or when your camera is connected to a computer. Press  to exit the menu.

Camera’s screen is black.

Restart your camera. Press and hold  to turn your camera off, and then back on.

Camera is not charging or slow to charge.

• Ensure you use the supplied micro-USB cable and that it is properly connected.
 DANGER

◦ Improper battery replacement or use may result in fire, explosion, or other hazards.

◦ Only use accessories regulated by the manufacturer. Never use the charging cable or power adapter with another product.

◦ Make sure the plug is properly connected to the power socket.

◦ DO NOT charge your camera within 2 m of flammable materials.

◦ DO NOT connect multiple devices to one power adapter. The plug in the power socket could overheat and possibly cause a fire.

• Ensure the USB Mode is set to Off.

◦ Press and hold  to open the menu.

◦ Press  or  to navigate to USB Mode.

◦ Press  to open the setting.

◦ Press  to select Off.

◦ Press  to confirm your setting.

◦ Press  the exit the menu.

Camera’s battery keeps draining.

You can preserve your camera’s battery life in the following ways:

• Turn off any camera settings or functions that are not being used.

• Use your camera without the app. First, sign out your camera from the app, and then turn the Wi-Fi hotspot off. 

◦ Press and hold  to open the menu.

◦ Press  or  to navigate to WiFi.

◦ Press  to open the setting.

◦ Press  to select Off.

◦ Press  to confirm your setting.

◦ Press  the exit the menu.

• Set your camera to go into automatic sleep mode after 1 minute of inactivity has passed. First set your camera’s sleep mode (Suspend Mode) to be automatic, and then set the automatic sleep mode (Auto Suspend) to 1 minute.

◦ Press and hold  to open the menu.

◦ Press  or  to navigate to Suspend Mode.

◦ Press  to open the setting.

◦ Press  to select Automatic.

◦ Press  to confirm your setting.

◦ Press  to navigate to Auto Suspend.

◦ Press  to open the setting.

◦ Press  to select 1 Min.

◦ Press  to confirm your setting.

• Set your camera’s screen brightness to low.

◦ Press and hold  to open the menu.

◦ Press  or  to navigate to Brightness.

◦ Press  to open the setting.

◦ Press  to select Low.

◦ Press  to confirm your setting.

◦ Press  the exit the menu.

• Set your camera’s automatic shutdown to 60 minutes or less. 

◦ Press and hold  to open the menu.

◦ Press  or  to navigate to Auto Shutdown.

◦ Press  to open the setting.

◦ Press  to select 60 Mins or less.

◦ Press  to confirm your setting.

◦ Press  the exit the menu.

Camera’s image has lots of graininess or scratches.

• Turn your camera off, attach the lens cap, and allow it to rest for a few hours before using again.

• To improve your camera’s image quality set the FFC Mode to Auto. 

◦ Press and hold  to open the menu.

◦ Press  or  to navigate to FFC.

◦ Press  to open the setting.

◦ Press  to select Auto.

◦ Press  to confirm your setting.

◦ Press  the exit the menu.

• To manually correct pixel defects in your camera’s image, set the DPC settings to Manual. 

◦ Press and hold  to open the menu.

◦ Press  or  to navigate to DPC.

◦ Press  to open the setting.

◦ Press  to select one of the options:

· Auto: (Default) Your camera automatically calibrates defective pixels.

· Press  to start auto DPC.

· Close the lens cap until your camera signals that auto correction is complete.

· Manual: Correct the defective pixels manually.

· Press  to start DPC manually.

·  Press to switch between the X-axis and Y-axis.

· Press and hold  or  to start correction.

· Restore: DPC is restored to original state.

The following FAQ answers many of the general questions about your thermal monocular camera.

How does my thermal monocular camera work?

To improve the visibility of objects in complete darkness, haze, or tough conditions, your thermal monocular camera uses infrared sensors to detect heat given off by a person, animal, or other objects. It creates images of that radiation called thermograms, which display the relative temperatures of different objects with different shades or colors. In a thermogram, warm objects stand out in a contrast or often cooler background. It is widely used in outdoor scenarios for hunting, rescue, animal observation, and more.

Is my thermal monocular camera battery-operated or hard wired?

Your thermal monocular camera is battery-operated, however, to charge the battery you will need to connect the micro-USB cable into your camera’s USB port and the other end into a power source.

Does my thermal camera only work at night?

No. Although thermal imaging cameras are most commonly used for nighttime vision, they can also be useful in daylight. The detection of heat radiation and the high contrast of thermal imaging cameras allow you to see the outlines of (warm-blooded) animals that camouflage well in their environments. It can also help distinguish animals or people in foggy or smoky conditions.

Can my thermal camera see-through walls, metal, or glass?

No, thermal imaging cameras do not see-through surface but detect surface temperatures.

Is thermal imaging and night vision the same thing?

No, thermal imaging can produce pictures without visible light while night vision cameras work by boosting ambient light. Their only common purpose is increasing visibility in low light conditions.

Can bright sunlight damage my camera’s lens?

Yes, aiming your camera’s lens with the lens cap open at powerful light sources (i.e. the sun) is not recommended, as this may adversely affect the accuracy or damage the thermal imager.

What is the clicking noise my camera makes?

This is simply the noise your camera makes while you are shifting it between different fields of view. The noise you are hearing is your camera focusing and calibrating the image to achieve the highest resolution possible.

Should I charge my camera’s battery before first use?

Since your camera’s battery is delivered partially charged, it is recommended that you fully charge it before first use.

How do I charge my camera’s battery?

Your camera has the following 4 battery charging statuses, as shown by the LED charging indicator located under the USB port.

How do I turn my camera on or off?

Press and hold .

Where can I find the mobile app?

The Thermal Connection Application can be downloaded on your smartphone with a valid Internet connection from iTunes or Google Play respectively.

Why do I need to allow my Location Permission on the app?

The app requires permission to detect your Wi-Fi network in order to connect your camera to the app.

How do I measure my target’s distance?

Measure the range distance between your camera and your target using the pre-set ranging modes for animals, people, etc.

◦ Wolf: Measure your distance from a wolf, with a pre-set height of 1.2 m.

Where does my camera store recorded images and videos?

Your camera stores recorded images and videos onto the microSD card.

What is my camera’s maximum storage capacity?

You can insert a microSD card with up to 256GB storage space.

How do I hide the icons on the top right of my camera’s image?

How do I update my camera?

Update your camera through the microSD card.

• Press and hold  to open the menu.

• Press  or  to navigate to USB Mode.

• Press  to open the setting.

• Press  to select Mass Storage.

• Press  to confirm your setting.

• Connect the micro-USB cable into your camera’s USB port and the other end into an available USB port on your computer.

• The microSD card’s storage will open on your computer desktop. Copy the update program to the microSD card.

• Press and hold  and  at the same time for 3 seconds. A blue screen will indicate that an update is in progress.

After a few minutes the update will complete and you will see your camera’s live view image.

Where can I download my camera’s latest firmware update?

Can I mount my camera to a tripod?

Yes, the tripod thread can be found on the bottom of your camera.

Can I access my camera’s Live View from an external monitor?

Yes, you can access your camera’s Live View from your computer by connecting your camera using the micro-USB cable.

What is the buzzer option in the app settings?

The buzzer is not compatible with your camera.

How to start a live-streaming

What is the difference between live-streaming and 10-second Full HD video?

The live-streaming allows you to see what is happening live around your camera. It can last as long as you have live-streaming minutes in your account. It is great when you receive a notification, and you want to check if there are still some movements.

Your camera stores a 10-second Full HD video on the servers at every detection. You can request the video to understand better what happened during the detection. Simply click on a photo and press the button “Request Full HD video”.

What is the impact on the battery life?

The more you use those features, the more it takes a toll on the battery life.

This is especially true if the V300 doesn’t get a steady and strong signal. Just like your cell phone, the camera will work harder to connect to the cellular tower and communicate information.

If you see the battery life dropping, consider adding the Universal Solar Powerbank to sustain your camera from 6 to 12 months.

How to buy additional live-streaming minutes?

Part 1

Don’t Start a Fire or Shock Yourself

Electricity Can Kill You; Avoid Electrical Lines!

Never strap, staple or otherwise run networking cable to conduit or raceways carrying electrical current. Never run any cable within 2 inches of Class I electrical lines, lighting, fire alarm, or power lines or devices.

Give a Wide Berth to High Voltage Devices or Lines

Never run any cable within 6 feet of a conductor or fuse box. A minimum 5-inch distance is required from any fluorescent lighting fixture or power line over 2 kVA and up to 24 inches from any power line over 5 kVA. If unsure about the a device or line, consult an electrician. Route cable away as far as you can from large motors, generators, induction heaters, arc welders, x-ray equipment, and radio frequency, microwave or radar sources. NEC/NFPA 70, Article 800-52

Protect it from Future Physical Damage

You might want to put a nail or screw in later and don’t want to puncture your cables, so when a cable, raceway, or soft conduit (anything you can puncture) is installed parallel to framing members (joists, rafters, or studs), furring strips, or crown molding, keep the cable at least 32 mm (1.26 inches) from the edge. NEC 300.4(D)

Don’t Leave it Dangling – Secure Your Cables

You can connect cable directly to a surface with straps, staples, cable ties, hangers, or similar fittings, but you have to secure it somehow. NEC 800.24; 300.11

Use Plenum rated cable in Areas with Airflow

If you are going to run cables through an area which is used by your heating, air circulation, or air conditioner systems (such as above a drop ceiling in an office), you must use Plenum rated cables, which have a special insulation that has low smoke and low flame characteristics. When securing cable in Plenum required areas, make sure your straps, cable ties, and similar fittings also are plenum rated. NEC 830; NFPA 90A

Turn the Breaker Power OFF

Any time that you will be drilling or cutting into your wall, you want to turn the power off. You don’t want to drill into a hidden electrical line. You probably already know this, but our lawyers insisted.

Running the Cable

Basic Cabling

Terminating Cable (Putting the ends on)

Instructions for putting the RJ45 ends on to ethernet (for example, Cat5 / Cat6 / Cat5e) cable.

Using Our Waterproof Connectors

When installing a camera outdoors, it is imperative that you put our waterproof RJ45 Connector on the ethernet (for example, Cat5 / Cat6 / Cat5e) cable.

No Protection – Just Running the Wire

You can connect cable directly to a surface with straps, staples, cable ties, hangers, or similar fittings, but the cable could get damaged and someone might be able to cut it.

24 Volt Wiring: PTZ

The Spotlight PTZ cameras uses 24 volt power rather than POE because it requires more power than is capable of Power-Over-Ethernet for its natural white light spotlight. The Laser can also be powered via 24 volt power and can be powered the same way, although it is not required to do so. This guide shows you how to wire these PTZs.

24 Volt Wiring: Sharpshooter

The Sharpshooter IP Bullet cameras uses 24 volt power rather than POE because it requires more power than is capable of Power-Over-Ethernet for its long range infrared. This guide shows you how to wire the Sharpshooter.

This is what most people do: just put it on a shelf or desk. This makes it easy to connect to a TV/monitor and use the mouse (included) to control the NVR.

Long Distance Wireless

Military-Grade Long-Range Wifi Solution are used when attempting to send wireless IP Camera video data more than 100 feet (and up to 3 Miles). These products will require a professional wireless network technician on location. We can’t offer support on this product remotely, as once we can see it remotely, that means that it is already working.

Aerial Cable

Aerial cable clearance varies based on location (cable over a road needs more clearance than over a sidewalk, for example), needs to be enclosed within 8 feet of finished grade, and requires a on-site structural analysis to make sure the cable won’t break. Hire an expert.

Burial of Cable

Number one, call 811 before you ever dig: know where your power company has buried its power cables! The required cable burying depth also can vary based on your local zoning laws and your certificate of occupancy; you should get an expert.

Elevators

Don’t even try to install any cable in one without a licensed elevator technician’s help as the cable needs to be inside the cable traveler. An error in securing the cable can result in damage to the elevator’s operation – and potentially the people inside it. Don’t mess with it; get a licensed elevator technician to run the cable.

When you log in to Verkada Command, you can only access cameras and video in organizations or sites where your user account has permissions.

Note: Even if you are an Org Admin, you still need to grant yourself permission to view all sites. Learn more about roles and permissions for cameras and Command.

If you log in to Command and cameras are missing or have disappeared, always check user permissions. The most common reason cameras are not visible is that your user account needs permissions to the site(s) where the cameras are configured.

Each Verkada camera has night vision capabilities, using a sensor to detect low-light situations. When external lighting is low, the camera switches to night mode and records in black and white, using infrared (IR) LEDs to illuminate the environment. If the IR is emitted improperly through the dome or reflected into the lens, it negatively impacts image quality.

Common night mode issues

It is imperative that the dome remain free of debris and the camera is installed properly to achieve the best image quality. When viewing footage in night mode if the footage appears obscured it is most likely the result of one of the following scenarios:

Camera always in night mode

If your camera is always in night mode even where there is sufficient light in the environment the lux (light) value may need to be adjusted. If this is the case, reach out to Verkada Support for further assistance.

Environmental obstruction

If the camera is mounted too close to a wall, ledge, or light source, the image quality may be degraded due to IR reflection.

Recommendation. Ensure that cameras are mounted sufficiently far away from surfaces that may cause the IRs to reflect, such as light sources.

IR obstruction

If a first-generation Dome camera (D30 or D50) is operating in night mode when there is plenty of light, the IR sensor is likely obstructed by the camera housing.

To fix the obstructed light sensor, physically rotate the lens barrel assembly 180° so the sensor and IRs are visible through the camera case.

3. Select General on the left.
Then select the Date & Time tab at the top.
To set the date and time without an NTP server, select Manual Setting. Then adjust the Time, Time Format, and Time Zone. (You can press Sync PC if you want to pull the time from the PC you are using. The Time Zone still needs to be set manually though.)

To set the date and time with an NTP server, select NTP. Then fill in the information for a functioning NTP server. (This will only work if the camera has access to the internet.)
For locations that use Daylight Saving Time, enable the slider below DST and select the dates and times that Daylight Savings starts and stops.
When you are done adjusting settings, select Apply at the bottom to save the settings.

Reset via Password Recovery in DMSS

Click on Forgot password?

2. Click on OK to agree to use your email address in this process

3. If you setup a recovery email you will be brought to a page with a QR code on it. (If you didn’t setup a recovery email, skip to “Reset via Physical Button” at the bottom of this page.)

4. Open the DMSS app on a mobile device.
Tap on Me at the bottom.
Then select Tool Manager

5. Tap on Device Password Management

6. Use the mobile device’s camera to scan the QR code from Step 3 above

7. Once the QR Code has been successfully scanned you will see the following message

8. Check the email inbox for the email address that was registered for password recovery on this device.
Input the security code from that email in the Security code field.
Then click on Next

9. Enter a new password in the New Password and Confirm Password fields.
Then click on OK

10. The password will be successfully reset

Depending on the model of your IP Camera, there could be a physical reset button on the outside body of the camera, or inside the camera body.

1. Reset: Press the reset button for 10-20 seconds while the camera is connected to power.

4．Qualified engineers needed All the examination and repair work should be done by the qualified service engineers. We are not liable for any problems caused by unauthorized modifications or attempted repair.

5．Environment The NVR should be installed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, inflammable, explosive substances and etc. This series product shall be transported, storage and used in the specified environments.

6. Accessories Be sure to use all the accessories recommended by manufacturer. Before installation, please open the package and check all the components are included. Contact your local retailer ASAP if something is broken in your package.

7. Lithium battery Improper battery use may result in fire, explosion, or personal injury! When replace the battery, please make sure you are using the same model! Before your operation please read the following instructions carefully.

Hardware Installation and Connection

Note: All the installation and operations here should conform to your local electric safety rules.

1. Check Unpacked NVR When you receive the NVR from the forwarding agent, please check whether there is any visible damage. The protective materials used for the package of the NVR can protect most accidental clashes during transportation. Then you can open the box to check the accessories. Please check the items in accordance with the list (Remote control is optional). Finally you can remove the protective film of the NVR.

2. About Front Panel and Rear Panel For detailed information of the function keys in the front panel and the ports in the rear panel, please refer to the User’s Manual included in the resource CD. The model label in the front panel is very important; please check according to your purchase order. The label in the rear panel is very important too. Usually we need you to represent the serial number when we provide the service after sales.

3. After Remove the Chassis Please check the data cable, power cable, COM cable and main boar cable connection is secure or not.

4. Important：Please turn off the power before you replace the HDD. You can refer to the User’s Manual for recommended HDD brand. Please use HDD of 7200rpm or higher. Usually we do not recommend a PC HDD. For detailed operation instruction, please refer to the User’s Manual included in the resources CD.

1. Use the screwdriver to loose the screws of the rear panel and then remove the front cover.

2. Put the HDD to the HDD bracket in the chassis and then line up the four screws to the four holes in the HDD. Use the screwdriver to fix the screws firmly to secure HDD on the HDD bracket

3. Connect to the HDD data cable to the main board and the HDD port respectively. Loosen the power cable of the chassis and connect another end of the power cable to the HDD port.

4. After connect the cable, put the front cover back to the device and then fix screws of the rear panel.

Steps to Change Secure Series Camera Compression to H.264

The below steps are needed in order to connect your camera to the Secure 4ch NVR attached with your order.  Please log into camera first, default username is “admin” and default password are “1234567u”, from there it will prompt you to change, please do so and follow below steps.  If you do not do this first, the camera will not connect to the NVR.

• Log into the cameras web interface on Internet Explorer (IE), default username is “admin” and default password are “1234567u”. Make sure to download the new plugin. 

Note: close ALL browser tabs while installing the plugin.

• Parameter Configuration (Configuration/Human Thermometer/Parameter Configure)

◦ Enable face detection

◦ Draw the area according to the real scenario, there is a maximum of 8 areas supported. We usually use one detection area to cover where people could potentially appear in, recommended distance is 9 to 16 feet (3-5 meters) for capturing.

• Leave the Display Trace Info at “Mode 1”

• Show Detection Area, can turn On or Off

• For Confidence Coefficient, we suggest keeping the default value (Mid). It’s for the face matching level with the built-in algorithm.

• Area ID is for the selected areas if you choose more then one main area, up to 8 totals. We suggest keeping this at one and focusing on the main point of entrance.

• For Face Pixel Minimum and Maximum, we suggest keeping the default value (70/1000). Only faces in this range will be detected.

• There are two different Snapshot Modes: 

◦ Timing: ‘upload interval’ is associated with ‘timing’, camera will upload one picture every 5 seconds (Suggested).

◦ Optical: ‘snapshot count’ is associated with ‘optical’, camera will upload the best face picture in 5 seconds.

• For Upload Image Interval we suggest leaving at 5 seconds (1-10 second range).

• For Yaw Degree, Tilt Degree, Pitch Degree and OSD Overlay Snapshot, we suggest keeping as default.

• FTP Upload Image Matting and FTP Upload Whole Image are if you are using the camera as a standalone device, no CMS or NVR, and wish to save the facial snaps to an FTP.

• Temperature Parameters

• Enable this field and leave all as DEFAULT except LENGTH UNIT and MOUNT DISTANCE

◦ IF YOU SWITCH TO FAHRENHEIT THE FIELDS STILL STAY AS DEFAULT (Except Length/Mount Distance, mentioned above)

◦ DEPENDING ON THE SELECTION OF “LENGTH UNIT” (METERS/FEET), ALL DISTANCE FIELDS WILL BE CONSIDERED IN THOSE UNITS!

[IMPORTANT] Set the mount distance according to the real installation, whose value should be the horizontal distance from the detection area to the camera. 

Hit ‘apply’ to save the settings.

• Face Alarm Linkage

IF SWITCHED TO FAHRENHEIT YOU MUST ADJUST “ALARM TEMPERATURE”, 99.5-100.5F (Default Celsius is 37.30)[

• [IMPORTANT] Thermal Mapping (Configuration/Human Thermometer/Thermal Mapping)

◦ This step is mainly for matching the thermal image with the visible image, which can ensure the measurement accuracy.  The Black Body device (Infrared Calibrator) MUST be in the Field of View of the thermal image.  The thermal image is a FIXED LENS and is a smaller field of view then the standard image.

• There are eight groups of ID, and each group ID contains three points. If using One area, then you do not have to set groups 2-8.

• Pick out three points that you can clearly see in the thermal image, mark them with point1, point2 and point3.

• Find the three locations of the three points in the visible image and mark them with the same point numbers associated with those in thermal image.

◦ Note: Suggested to choose three points far away from one another, so the triangle of can cover 70% of the image.

• Hit ‘apply’ to save the settings.

• Test if the rectangle can correctly surround the face, and perfect it by adjusting the three points.

• Thermal calibration (Configuration/Human Thermometer/Thermal Calibration)

• Install the blackbody properly where the camera can see it (within the thermal image). The blackbody needs to be powered on for at least 20 mins to reach to a stable temperature.

◦ The Infrared Calibrator will ALWAYS display in CELSIUS; the stable temperature is ~40C

• Enable.

• If you turn on ‘Display Area Info’, the blackbody (Infrared Calibrator) will also be shown with temperature on thermal image.

◦ Draw box around your calibrator

• Target Temperature: If using Celsius leave as 40C, if using Fahrenheit change to 104F (Default)

• For Distance, put the real installation distance between the camera and Black Body (Infrared Calibrator). No more then 9-16 feet (3-5 meters).  Distance is in Meters or Feet, depending what you selected under the Parameter Config menu.

• Keep the ‘Emission Rate’ as the default value.

What are the minimum specs required to handle SEC-BODYTEMPCAM1?

For a single camera: i7 processing, at least 8GB of RAM.

From where is the temperature being scanned?

From a point in the middle of the forehead, the temperature is scanned, above the nose and in-between the eyes. If the camera captures a profile image it is using the skin around the earhole for temperature.  It is important to note that what is being scanned is skin temperature and not core temperature.

Should people be screened prior to entry?

The camera needs to be set within a controlled environment and cannot be installed outside. The calibrator isn’t weatherproof (IP66) and airflow, whether inside or out, could throw off the camera’s calibration.

If you need to screen people before entering the building, you would need to set up an enclosed tent to scan individuals. The camera can operate in both extreme heat and cold as long as no airflow would skew the results. If an individual is outside for an extended period, in the intense heat or cold without the opportunity to reregulate their temperature, the results might be slightly off, its recommended to wait 20-30 seconds before reading.

Need to wait when coming from outside for accurate reading?

Most of the time, there will not be any accuracy issues when getting scanned. If you have been out in the extreme heat or cold for an extended time you may want someone to wait roughly 30 seconds for their body to adjust to the environment. The camera is taking the skin temperature, which the human body keeps in check very efficiently.

What is your advice for poorly controlled environments?

If you are going to invest in the product, you will also need to invest in creating a controlled environment. If the environment is not controlled, you will not have accuracy. 

What effects an individuals’ temperature?

An individuals’ temperature will not read higher based on wearing a darker colored cap or clothing. The temperature scanned is the skin. The camera is using the face detection analytic to detect a human face then apply the algorithm built into the camera to display a temperature that is read from the epidermis of the forehead, or if it is a profile picture captured, the skin around the earhole is used.

If you’re wearing a mask, glasses, hood, hat, or all combined, if those two focal points aren’t blocked, then the camera can give a temperature reading.

Depending on the type of hat, for example, a forwards facing baseball cap pulled down entirely over the forehead can cause an individual not to be scanned. Another factor that could affect the scan is how the camera is mounted. The cameras must not be mounted higher than 8-feet. If the camera is wall-mounted and facing on a downward angle where a hat or hardhat is blocking the forehead, a solution would be to mount the cameras on a tripod to get a more direct shot.

As for individuals who have been out in the extreme heat or cold for an extended time you may want to wait about 30 seconds for their body to adjust to the environment. The camera is taking the skin temperature, which the human body keeps in check very efficiently.

Two real-life examples of cold and hot temperatures:

In New York, the temperatures were averaging 45 degrees, and we had someone whose drive into work took about 20 minutes. While driving, they had the window rolled down and the air continually blowing into their face. They would walk from their car to the office and could feel their skin was cold. When walking into the office, they would get scanned, and their temperature would be between 96.9 and 97 Degrees. After waiting for about 60 seconds, they would rescan, and their temperature would average the mid 97 degrees.

In Arizona, where the temperature was over 100 degrees, we found that when someone was outside for a while, a cooling down about 20-30 seconds was necessary. Initially, their temperature registered at about 102, but after 20 seconds, it stabilized and showed their baseline temperature.

Something to keep in mind is that everyone is different. Two people who are excessively overheated may vary slightly in how fast their bodies regulated their temperature. One person might take about 10 seconds, while another person might take about 45 seconds. We are finding that the average is about 20-30 seconds for someone to regulate back to their baseline skin temperature.

Does the subject have to face the camera?

The subjects face must hit the 7% FOV (Field of View) mark of the camera to get an accurate reading. It is looking for two measurement points. The first point is in the middle of the forehead, roughly the area in-between the two eyes, near the nose, and if it captures a profile image, it is looking for the skin around the ear hole. The person has to be walking into the view of the camera and not away.

What is the ETA on the Fahrenheit firmware fix for US sites?

The firmware is currently available, giving the option for Fahrenheit or Celsius. The product leaves our warehouse with this latest firmware update, and the product comes defaulted to Fahrenheit & Distance comes defaulted to Feet with the option for metric units. 

What VMS’s are supported?

As of today 4/29/20, we know Axxon and EXACT are working on an integration. Other companies that have reached out but are not 100% confirmed yet. The SDK is available upon request but each is responsible for their integration. 

Without an NVR, will images be stored?

No. The camera will not store any images. 

Will the camera do face recognition without an NVR or computer?

The camera only does face detection. The CMS is what handles Facial Recognition if you aren’t running the CMS, face images will not be saved.

Will the camera track a person?

Tracking is based on facial detection. As soon as the 7% mark is met (7% is the required amount to get a temperature), it will read the face detection analytic and then apply the algorithm for the temperature display.  

Where are these cameras made?

The cameras are manufactured in China but are not affiliated with and are not OEM made products from Hikvision or Dahua. 

Can the camera just be connected to a LAN that has the NVR on it?

Yes, it can be stand alone.

What is the accuracy of the camera?

The accuracy of the camera is 0.54 Degrees Fahrenheit / 0.3 Degrees Celsius.   

Is this camera FDA approved for taking Body Temperature readings?

We are currently in the process of working on our 510k Certificate approval. 

Will the camera pick up the temp of a person who is walking away?

No. it is not designed to work this way.  Depending on the angle, it might be able to capture a profile and on occasion provide a temperature. 

Is there a max mounting height from the floor?

Yes, you may not exceed 8 feet from the floor when installing on a wall or ceiling mount.

How do you calibrate the calibrator?

Let the calibrator run for about 15-20 minutes. On the back panel of the calibrator, you will see a display. The display will be in Celsius regardless of the settings in the camera and CMS. Once the screen hits the 40-40.2 degrees, the unit has been calibrated. 

Can you set the camera and calibrator to shoot through a glass door?

 No, the camera and calibrator must be in sight of one another and cannot see through a glass window or door. There can be no glass between the devices and the subject. 

How far away does the calibrator need to be from the camera?

The camera and calibrator must be in view of each other and must not exceed 16 Feet. The recommended distance is 7-16ft. and the calibrator must be in the field of view of the THERMAL image

Does each camera require its own calibrator?

Yes, each camera requires its own calibrator. You cannot use two cameras with a single calibrator. The temperatures will not be accurate. 

Can you connect the CMS to a customer’s network?

Yes, the CMS can be connected to a customer’s pc and also run on a pc that is not on the network.

What does CMS stand for?

How many users can log into the CMS simultaneously?

The CMS (Central Management System) is stand-alone. You can install it on multiple computers, but there is a max of 10-user connections for each camera.

If you are using a computer, will it record video without an NVR?

No, the closest workaround is to add the camera to the CMS. The CMS saves snapshots based on facial recognition. Please keep in mind that if the CMS doesn’t see specific points of a face to realize its a face (such as if the person is partially covered), you may still get a temperature read, but the face snap may not save. The CMS is only saving snapshots, not video.

How to use a cloud feature in the NVR menu?

The cloud feature will be implemented in the future. Once it is fully functional, we will have additional information posted!

How many hours of video can be stored on the NVR?

That will depend on the size of the drive you put in the unit and the number of cameras you have installed. The standard 4-channel unit can house a single hard drive bay, and can use drives ranging from 1-10 Terabytes. 

Can the NVR do the job of counting and temperature notification?

No.

Will camera send notifications automatically without an NVR?

If the camera is networked, email notifications can be sent out, even without an NVR. This will include a snapshot with the temperature for individuals who are above the threshold set. The camera also has two alarm outputs that can be utilized.

To use the app, InVid LIVE CMS, the camera would need to be added to the CMS, and the CMS would have to be kept open and running on a PC. If a temperature over the threshold is registered, it will send a push notification to the app.

Is the NVR required for sending email alerts?

No, the camera can send out email alerts. The 4/8/16 Channel NVR does not have the ability to send out email alerts while the 32 channel unit does, for over temperatures.

What type of notifications are triggered by high temp?

You can have an email notification with a snapshot of the individual and temperature range and also the option of one or two sirens if the temperature is above the threshold. 

Are there any onboard relays that could be triggered to send an alert

Yes, the camera has 2-alarm outputs. Power is needed, 12/24 volt AC/DC. Settings within the camera can be configured to trigger an alert when a temperature is over the threshold. 

Can the system send email and text alarms?

The system can send emails, it includes the picture of the scene with the temperature reading. Currently, there are no text alarms, but it is something we are looking at trying to implement.

Audible alarm once it detects a high temp?

The camera has two notification functions. The first is an email notification. The second is an alarm output trigger. The CMS that links to the camera does have an audible alarm if your computer is set up for sound.

WiFi Camera 3rd Gen setup via Green Feathers app

This guide shows you how to set up your WiFi Bird Box Camera, Solar Powered WiFi Camera, or Garden Wildlife Camera on WiFi

Before you begin

Test the WiFi signal strength by taking your smartphone/tablet to the site where you plan to install your camera; if it has a weak signal at the installation site then the camera may struggle to maintain a connection (see section 9 Hints & Tips at the bottom of the guide for help with WiFi signal strength)
.

Insert a micro SD card if you have one; hold the camera with the lens facing up, then insert the micro SD card with the metal contacts facing up. Push it in fully until you feel it click into place. If you have trouble inserting the SD card to the point where it clicks into place, hold it down with your thumb then use a thin object like a pen to push it down fully
.

Before you mount the camera in the bird box, make sure it’s connected to your WiFi router and can be viewed on the app. It’s best to set the camera up when it’s plugged in a different room to your router, then once it’s connected you can unplug it and install it in the final location

Ensure the device being used to set up the camera is connected to the same WiFi network that you want the camera to be connected to (this is only required for the setup process)

Make sure you know the name and password of the WiFi network which the camera will be connected to

Make sure that you are connecting the camera to a 2.4GHz WiFi signal; if you don’t know what this is you can read more here

Plug in the power supply into the trailing cable of the camera; after the camera has powered on you will hear a three note chime, and the camera will start saying “Wait for WiFi config”

Remove the lens cap on the camera, if it has one, and remove the cap on the reset button

To get started, open the app:

1. Registering an account

Tap ‘Sign Up’ to create an account, then select ‘Agree’ for the ‘User Agreement and Privacy Policy’. If you have already signed up then skip below to the section called ‘Adding the camera to the app’.

Once your account is all setup, just log in to the app!

2. Adding the camera to the app

The first time you go to the Home page, you can choose to allow the app to use your device location. This is not essential, but helps with some features. Next, click the green ‘+’ icon at the top right of the screen.

Now select the model of camera you are setting up, then select “QR mode”:

3. Setting to QR mode and resetting the camera

Follow the instructions on the app or below to reset the camera.

Now tick ‘Next step’ and select ‘Next’.

4. Entering the WiFi details

Now you need to enter the details of the WiFi network that you want the camera to connect to. The name of the WiFi network which your phone or tablet is connected to should be automatically filled in, so just enter the password. To change the WiFi network your device is connected to, tap the icon to the right of the WiFi name:

5. Scanning the QR code

When you select ‘Next’, the app will display a QR code to you. Point the camera 15-20cm away from the QR code, directly facing the screen, and the camera should register it and say ‘Connect router’. When it says this, tap the ‘I Heard a Prompt’ button.

If the camera is not scanning the QR code, try slowly increasing or decreasing the distance between the camera and phone screen to bring the QR code into focus. It can sometimes be easier with the phone placed on a flat surface to help keep the camera pointed in the right direction while slowly moving it.

It is also possible to re-adjust the focus on the lens which can be done by gently twisting it. The nut around the bottom of the lens will need loosening first. It is best to adjust the lens a small amount at a time as it shouldn’t be far out of focus.

After you have tapped the ‘I Heard a Prompt’ button, the app should automatically begin connecting to the camera.

After a minute or so, it should have found the camera and added it to the app, you can set a name for the camera now, or later on in the settings menu.

6. Troubleshooting

If the camera does not connect to your WiFi:

If you have connected it to your internet router, but it shows the message ‘Establishing encrypted channel‘ and doesn’t load:

7. Adding and renaming the camera

Now you can rename the camera by tapping the pencil icon to the right of the camera name. Once it is added, to view the camera go back to the ‘Home’ page using the icon at the bottom left then select your camera from the list.

The app will start searching for your camera with a 2minute count down, once it has been found you will be presented with the screen below.

Once the circle has filled and the camera is connected to the network, you can set a name for the camera by tapping on it.

If the camera does not connect at this stage, try going through the wired setup steps again without resetting the camera.

5. Resetting the camera

1. Power on the device and wait for it to play three notes to indicate it has started up
2. Press and hold the reset button for 5 seconds; you will hear it say ‘Reset, camera reboot’.
3. When the camera starts saying ‘Wait for Wi-Fi config’ or has a flashing red indicator light, tick ‘Next step’. Once your camera has been reset you can re-connect it to Wi-Fi.

What is Symmetric Encryption Algorithm?

In the modern stage of cryptography, the concept of key secrecy was introduced, giving rise to a new encryption algorithm paradigm called symmetric encryption algorithm.

.

Symmetric encryption algorithm, also known as single-key algorithm, is characterized by the use of an identical key for both encryption and decryption. They can be broadly classified into two major types: sequence ciphers (also known as stream ciphers) and block ciphers.

.

The core of stream cipher encryption is the key (also known as the seed key) that goes through a key stream generator to produce a key stream. This key stream is then XORed with the plaintext byte stream to obtain the ciphertext byte stream, encrypting one bit or one byte of the data stream at a time. The encryption process is illustrated in Figure 1.

The core of block cipher encryption is to divide the plaintext data into fixed-length blocks and encrypt them using a key, resulting in ciphertext blocks. The plaintext is encrypted on a byte-by-byte basis. The process is illustrated in Figure 2.

Block cipher encryption is achieved by grouping the plaintext. To enhance the security in the encryption process and facilitate grouping, two key points are usually considered: encryption modes and padding modes. As for the specific selection of encryption mode or padding mode, it often depends on practical application scenarios, required security strength, and other factors.

The introduction of encryption modes mainly considers whether there should be any correlation between different blocks or whether each block should be encrypted independently. Different encryption modes represent different iteration methods used in the encryption process of plaintext blocks. Table 1 provides the advantages and disadvantages of using different encryption modes.

The introduction of padding modes mainly addresses the issue of plaintext that is not a multiple of the specified block size. In such cases, the remaining bits need to be padded to match the algorithm’s specified block size. During encryption, the plaintext is padded, and during decryption, the padding needs to be removed according to the same padding mode. Table 2 presents several common padding methods in block ciphers.

Symmetric encryption algorithms encompass various algorithms, such as RC4 and ZUC for stream ciphers, and DES, 3DES, and AES for block ciphers. They are mainly used to address issues related to secure transmission, secure storage, and have a wide range of applications. However, these algorithms also have drawbacks, such as difficulties in key distribution and the inability to provide non-repudiation, which restrict their application in certain scenarios.

Use the 2.4GHz Directional Wireless Panel Antenna (ACCANTD9) to focus a wireless signal onto one specific wireless device (camera or receiver) to increase the range of transmission. A clear line-of-sight between the antenna and the wireless device needing range extension is required.

Use the 2.4GHz Omni-Directional Antenna (ACCANTO8) to enhance the signal of one or multiple cameras that are paired to a single or dual antenna receiver. You may also use two Omni-Directional Antennas to extend the range of all cameras paired to a dual antenna receiver.

Recommended Antenna Installation Methods

Your antenna needs will vary depending on the setup of your camera system, the number of cameras that require range extension, and the number of channels on your wireless receiver. Review the scenarios below to ensure you have the correct antenna and installation method to meet your needs.

Combining Accessory Antennas

If you have installed your accessory antenna according to the recommended installation methods and would like to enhance wireless signal strength even further, you may add an additional Directional Wireless Panel Antenna (ACCANTD9) directly to a camera. The additional Directional Wireless Panel Antenna can be used with a Directional Wireless Panel Antenna or with an Omni-Directional Antenna attached to the receiver.

Scenario 1: Extend the range of one camera paired to a single antenna receiver

To extend the range of one camera connected to a single channel receiver, use the Directional Wireless Panel Antenna (ACCANTD9).

The Directional Wireless Panel Antenna can be connected in two configurations.

Configuration 1. Connect the antenna directly to the camera

Configuration 2. Connect the antenna directly to the wireless receiver

REQUIREMENT: The antenna connects using an SMA cable and replaces the existing antenna on either the camera or wireless receiver. Check www.lorextechnology.com/compatibility to determine if your product is compatible with the antennas.

Scenario 2: Extend the range of one camera paired to a dual antenna receiver

To extend the range of one camera connected to a multi-channel receiver, use the Directional Wireless Panel Antenna (ACCANTD9). Connect the Directional Wireless Panel Antenna directly to the camera.

Scenario 3: Extend the range of select cameras paired to a dual antenna receiver

To extend the range of select cameras on a multi-channel receiver, use the Omni-Directional Antenna (ACCANTO8).

Connect the Omni-Directional Antenna to one of the antenna ports on the wireless receiver.

REMINDER: Each antenna port on a dual antenna receiver is associated with specific camera channels. One antenna communicates with odd numbered channels (1, 3, and 5), while the other antenna communicates with even numbered channels (2, 4, and 6). See the table below for dual antenna channel configurations.

If you connect the Omni-Directional Antenna to an antenna port and your wireless signal does not improve, try switching the Omni-Directional Antenna to the other antenna port or pairing your camera to a different camera channel.

Scenario 4: Extend the range of all cameras paired to a dual antenna receiver

To extend the range of all cameras on a dual antenna receiver, connect an Omni-Directional Antenna (ACCANTO8) to each antenna port on the receiver.

IMPORTANT: Two Omni-Directional Antennas are required to accommodate this setup.

Combination 1: Combine two Directional Wireless Panel Antennas

If you are using a Directional Wireless Panel Antenna (ACCANTD9) to enhance the signal of a single camera with a single channel receiver, you can use an additional Directional Wireless Panel Antenna to further enhance the wireless signal.

Connect one Directional Wireless Panel Antenna directly to the camera and one Directional Wireless Panel Antenna directly to the wireless receiver. To maximize signal strength, it is recommended to aim the two antennas directly at each other with a clear line-of-sight.

Combination 2: Combine a Directional Wireless Panel Antenna with an Omni-Directional Antenna

If you are using an Omni-Directional Antenna (ACCANTO8) to enhance the signal of multiple cameras, you can further enhance the signal of a specific camera by connecting a Directional Wireless Panel Antenna (ACCANTD9) directly to the camera.

A clear line-of-sight between the Directional Wireless Panel Antenna and the Omni-Directional Antenna is recommended to maximize signal strength.
