Hikvision NVR Online Guide

To make the Hikvision NVR online, the first step is that plugin the NVR and connect it with a network. It will be easily connected to a router through an ethernet cable or Wi-Fi. When it is connected, we go through the following step by step process to make it online.

Step-1 Open The Quick Menu

We go to the monitor screen to which the NVR is connected and right-click the mouse. The following screen appears.

It has many functions. We opt for the function to reach the main menu.

Step-2 Login To Open The Main Menu

Here, we will log in to the app. Without it, we will not reach the main menu. You will use the same password generated by you while making the NVR setup.

After logging in press the OK system.

Step-3 Go To The Main Menu

After logging in we reach the main menu. The following page appears.

This page opens. Here we will select the “Configuration” icon. We reach the next step.

Step-4 Go To Configuration

In this window, we will find the following features.

This page has a “Network” option. Click that option and the following page appears.

When we click the network button, this page shows up. We will go for enabling the DHCP mode.

Step-5 Enable The DHCP

To enable DHCP, we tick the box. DHCP is the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. It facilitates the process of remotely accessing the device.

After ticking the box, press the apply button. After that come back to the main menu.

Step- 6 Go To The Maintenance

We will come back to the main menu and select the maintenance option.

We will go here to check the IP of the system.

Step- 7 Go To The Maintenance- Network

Under maintenance, we will go to check the IP in the Network option. The image is there to guide you.

You have to note down the IPv4 Address, IPv4 Default Gateway, and the Preferred DNS Server. We will align them to make the NVR online. If we don’t align them, there will be an IP conflict. It will not allow us to online the gadget.

After it comes back to the main menu and selects the Network option.

Step- 8 Got To Main Menu Network Option

Open this page and align the IPv4, IP address and the default gateway. Once completed this exercise, press the apply button.

When we apply the button, it reaches us to the next page where we see that the device is under the process and will be online.

Step- 9 Device Is Online Now

It will show that the device is online.

This way we make the NVR online in any network.

Mobile Setup For Remote Access

For that, we have to open the google play store.

The google play store is an app that is available on Android smartphones. To load it and install it, the first thing you have to do is to search the Hik-connect application on it. Hik-connect is a free Peer to Peer(P2P) service. It is provided by Hikvision.

The basic purpose of this application is that Hikvision devices can easily communicate with one another. We will learn here how the Hik-connect is going to be viewed in iVMS 4500. By default, every remote service of Hikvision is connected with this application.

How To Connect Hikvision Mobile Setup

The first and foremost step is to connect the Hikvision NVR with the network router. You can do it with a wired device or a Wi-fi device. Make the NVR online for monitoring and accessing purposes.

Press open the icon of the app. The following window will open.

Step-3 Select The Region

Step-4 The Home Page Will Appear

Here, the following page will appear.

Step-5 The Menu Page

There is a device option given. It is given for NVR management. Alarms are given to use the Sensor option. It will make your security extra solid. It can sense motion and audio and alert you accordingly. Pictures and videos are the galleries where you can keep the backup of the device.

The configuration option is for making certain arrangements and settings for the device. But first, we will go for the device login.

Step-6 Select The Log In Option

As we have shown here, it is mentioned that not logged in. We will go for the login. For that, we have to click the login option. It will reflect this window on the screen.

Step-7 Device Log In

The page has an Id and a password option. Fill in the id and the password. For that, you have to give the NVR id and the password which you had done to make your device operational.

As we have shown here we have mentioned them in their respective places. If you have forgotten the password then you are left with two options.

Either you have to go for the backup process, where it will ask you for certain security functions or you can register all a new. For that, you have to use the Master password suggested by the Hikvision for this version of the NVR.

After that click the button and move on.

Step-8 Adding The Device

After logging in we will go to add the gadget with the application. The new page will show on the upper right-hand side a “+” icon. It is a symbol for adding the device. Click it to add.

Here, the option is saying multiple ways to add the device. We will know them cursorily and follow the “Scan the QR Code” option, which is easier and safer.

The manual Adding option requires filling in the port, the IP address, user Id and the password. The Configuration option is especially for Wi-Fi purposes. Here, we will adjust the settings for the software to make the device connected with the app.

The online device option is more encompassing. It has functions where you can add many devices by manually setting the fields for every gadget.

The best and most trusted option is the Scanning of the QR code. We will go for it.

Step-9 Scan The QR Code

Click the Scan the QR code option. It will open a new window for scanning.

The full form of the QR code is the Quick Response Code. As its name, it is quick to respond. It opens a new window for the users. Where the client has to connect the scan of the NVR with it.

Step-10 Scan The NVR

When we click the option, this page opens for the software. It is asking us to connect the gadget to make it remotely accessed. The moment we align it with the QR Code of the NVR, it reads it automatically and sends us a signal.

There is hardly any time lapse between scanning and capturing. It is done very smoothly.  Press the next option now.

Step-11 Adding Completed

The application will reflect a page that will have the details of the device. It will show you the device name, the domain name, port, user id and password. If it is not showing the id and the password, then you have to manually insert them.

You can add multiple devices to the app by using the same method.

Step-12 Monitoring Begins

This way the gadget is added and we do our monitoring. When the device is added, the cameras attached with that NVR appear on the mobile display screen.

You can add more than 20 devices with the app at a time. It will show you a list, where all the NVRs are mentioned. Whichever you have to view, click them to monitor on the screen.

“Milesight VMS Enterprise” supports Video Wall function, which is a necessary advanced function for professional VMS. The Video Wall function supports custom screen combinations and split. It can divide a single monitor into multiple screens, which can be divided into up to 4 screens, or combine multiple monitors into one screen. It controls the maximum number of screens that can be run with a license. If the number of screens connected to the client computer is large enough, more screens can be generated. Moreover, the screens generated by the Video Wall are independent of each other. In particular, the Video Wall function can push the computer desktop to the wall.

Here are some professional terms related to Video Wall, so that you can better understand the function.

Chapter II Operations

2.1 How to Set Video Wall?

Note：

① Make sure that there is a license for Video Wall in the system, and the license quantity is sufficient.

② Make sure the Video Walll Server is installed and running on the Client you want to connect to.

Step1: First, click the button [Creat Video Wall] to create the Video Wall in the Settings -> System & Servers -> Video Wall Settings interface.

Then you can click to rename the Video Wall.

Step2: Click the button to pop up the Add Screens window, and all Clients in the LAN will be displayed in the list. You can refresh the list and search the Client.

Step3: Then select the Client whose screen does not exist in the current Video Wall in the LAN from the list, and click the button. You can also add multiple Online Clients as needed. Then these added Clients will be displayed in the Screen Setting list. And all monitors actually connected to these Clients will be displayed on the Clients.

You can refresh the Screen Setting list and search for the added Clients. If you want to delete the Client, you can click the button.

Step4: Click on a blank area of a monitor on the Client to create a new screen, then you can click and drag the screen to adjust the position. And the screen selected box has 8 small squares that you can drag to adjust the screen size. Each monitor can be divided into up to 4 screens.

In addition, you can click the screen and then click the screen name to rename it, and delete the screen by clicking the icon  in the upper right corner of the screen.

Step5: Click the screen you want, and then click the button  to add the screen to the Video Wall. You can add multiple screens as needed.

You can click and drag any screen on the Video Wall to adjust the position, and drag the small squares of the selected box to adjust the screen size. Click the icon  to delete the screen on the Wall. And you can also adjust the layout of the Video Wall by clicking the icons  or sliding the mouse wheel.

Step6: Click the button  to apply the settings.

Step7: Then click the button  to run the Video Wall. And then you can use Video Wall function in the Live View interface.

When the Video Wall is running, you can still click and drag any screen on the Video Wall to adjust the screen position and size, which is convenient to match the actual physical position composition of each screen.

In addition, click the button  to identify the corresponding screens. And you can click the button to stop running the Video Wall. Or click the button  to delete the Video Wall.

2.2 How to Use Video Wall?

The Video Wall list created in the Video Wall Settings is displayed in the left Resource panel of the Live View. And you can use all screens in the local area network.

Note:

The icon  indicates that the screen is not available, you need to check if the Video Wall Server is running normally.

2.2.1 How to Run Video Wall?

Step1: Right-click the Video Wall and a menu window will pop up as below:

[Control Video Wall]: Pop up the Video Wall control window to use the Video Wall.

[Start Wall]: Run the Video Wall.

[Rename]: Rename the Video Wall.

[Video Wall Settings]: Jump to the Video Wall Settings page.

Step2: Select [Control Video Wall] option, and then the following window pops up:

Step3: Click the button  to run the Video Wall. Then you can drag and drop the cameras, layouts and tour plans to the screens.

After running the Video Wall, you can also do the following:

• l Click the button  to identify all running screens in the Video Wall.

• l Click the button  to clear the content on all screens in the Video Wall.

• l Click the button  to stop running the Video Wall.

In addition, you can double-click the screen to enter the specific screen. And you can also right-click the screen to do something. For more details, please refer to How to Run Screen?.

Step4: When the Video Wall is running, you can right-click the Video Wall and a menu window will pop up as below:

[Control Video Wall]: Pop up the Video Wall control window to use the Video Wall.

[Stop Wall]: Stop running the Video Wall.

[Clear Wall]: Clear the content on all screens in the Video Wall.

[Rename]: Rename the Video Wall.

[Save Matrix]: Save the content currently playing on each screen of the Video Wall. For more details, please refer to How to Save and Load Matrix?.

[Identify Screens]: Identify all running screens in the Video Wall.

[Video Wall Settings]: Jump to the Video Wall Settings page.

2.2.2 How to Run Screen?

Step1: Right-click the screen and a menu window will pop up as below:

[Control Screen]: Pop up the screen control window to use the screen.

[Start Screen]: Run the screen.

[Rename]: Rename the screen.

Step2: Select [Control Screen] option, and then the following window pops up:

Step3: Click the button  to run the screen. Then you can drag and drop the camera, layout and tour plan to the screen.

After running the screen, you can also do the following:

• l Click the button  to refresh the screen.

• l Click the button  to identify the corresponding screen.

• l Click the button  to clear the content on the screen.

• l Click the button  to stop running the screen.

Step4: When the screen is running, you can right-click the screen and a menu window will pop up as below:

[Control Screen]: Pop up the screen control window to use the screen.

[Stop Screen]: Stop running the screen.

[Rename]: Rename the screen.

[Clear Screen]: Clear the content on the screen.

[Identify]: Identify the corresponding screen.

[Push My Desktop]: Push the desktop to the screen for display. If there are multiple desktops, select any one to push as needed.

2.2.3 How to Save and Load Matrix?

Step1: Right-click the Video Wall and select [Save Matrix] option to save the content currently playing on each screen of the Video Wall. The Save Matrix window will pop up, you can edit the matrix name, and then click the button .

Note:

Make sure the Video Wall is running.

Step2: Then right-click the matrix and a menu window will pop up as below:

[Load to Video Wall]: Each screen will play the content according to the matrix.

[Save]: Save the content currently playing on each screen of the Video Wall to the matrix.

[Rename]: Rename the matrix.

[Set As Default]: Set the matrix as default. Every time you run the Video Wall, each screen will play the content according to the matrix. There is at most one default matrix.

[Delete]: Delete the matrix.

Step3: Select [Load to Video Wall] option, and then the following window pops up:

Click the button , and then each screen will play the content according to the matrix.

This problem is related to incorrect network settings, specifically the port forwarding is not done correctly or not all the ports are open. Hence, you can see your camera when using the local Wi-Fi connection but nothing will be displayed if you switch to cell data.

Obviously, most of the time you want to see the cameras when you’re away from the location, so you must use the mobile data. iVMS-4500 is a phone app made by Hikvison and used to remotely see or playback their cameras from the phone (Android or iOS). It works while connected to the phone internet or local WiFi.

How to fix iVMS-4500 Not Working On Mobile Data

The most common message we get about this issue: Why iVMS works on WiFi but doesn’t work on the cellular network? Why should I fix it? Try the following suggestions.

Check Port Forwarding

Check whether the port forwarding configuration is done correctly. Basically, you need to have certain ports opened (forwarded) in your router for the app to access those cameras and display the live feed.

Usually, just opening the SERVER port is enough, but depending on your ISP rules you may need to open the RTSP and HTTP ports as well. Navigate to Configuration > Basic Settings > Network > Port and see what ports are set there.

Ensure that all of them (server, http, rtsp) and forwarded properly on routers settings. If you are not sure how to open the ports, just google the router model and then “port forwarding”. When you set the port forwarding rule, make sure the protocol is set to “both” (TCP/UDP).

Once done, check if all the three ports show open (you can use canyouseeme.org service). Sometimes if one of these ports is closed or the protocol is not set to TCP/UDP then the live cameras on iVMS-4500 may not work when using the cellular data.

Lower the bitrate

In some cases, the cameras don’t show up on the iVMS-4500 app because the cellular internet is not strong enough to handle all the cameras, especially if you’re using HD quality. Changing the video parameters settings may fix the issue.

There are two types of streams on Hikvision cameras, one is called Main Stream which is the highest one and is actually stored on the hard drives. The other type is Sub Stream which is not recorded, simply steam to mobile phones or other devices.

When you access the camera’s on the phone via the iVMS-4500 app, switch to Sub Stream which has lower resolution and bitrate; and check out if they show up. Keep in mind, your phone is streaming the live feed using cellular data, if your phone internet is lagging the pictures may not show up.

Additionally, you can tweak the camera’s image by going to Configuration > Video & Audio > Sub Stream and playing around with the bitrate, resolution, frame rate until they get to show up on the phone. As we said, Sub Stream is not recorded, your footage will be at the highest settings since it uses the Main Stream settings.

Update firmware and app

Ensure that the firmware on the NVR is updated to the latest version. Locate the model of the unit (check the sticker) and contact Hikvision USA or the seller to get the right firmware. Then update using a USB stick or via a computer.

Additionally, make sure the iVMS-4500 app is updated as well. Even the phone software needs to be updated, especially if you’re using an Android phone.

Use VPN

Sometimes the issue is caused by your ISP blocking the communication between the phone and the recorder. Even if you have opened the port on the router, they may still be closed because the ISP filters automatically block them.

To circumvent this obstacle, you can use a VPN service which is relatively cheap. The connection between your mobile device and the cameras will be secure, moreover, there’s no need to do any port forwarding or any advanced network settings on your router.
