How To Install Synology Surveillance Station, In this How To… Guide we are going to take you through how to install Surveillance Station software to a Synology NAS and then show you how to add an IP camera to that software. This guide is aimed at people who have just setup a NAS or have pre-existing NAS that they want to start using for IP camera management and storage, if you are setting up your NAS for the first time this thread is not for you, either follow the instructions in the box, look at other threads in the Synology section of this forum, or ask us for help.

Once you have the NAS setup you can come back to this post and follow the steps below:

Step 1: Login to your Synology NAS via a browser

Step 2: Click the Package Center icon

Step 3: Search for and install the Surveillance Station software (it should be on the home page of the package center, if not you can use the search bar to find it)

Step 4: Click the Synology main menu at the top left of your screen and open the newly installed Surveillance Station software

Step 5: Click the IP Camera icon

Step 6: Click the add button when the new window open and then click add camera from the drop-down

Step 7: Select Quick Setup and then click the next button

Step 8: Enter the camera details manually or click the Search icon next the IP Address box

Step 9: Check both the Synology Supported Cameras and ONVIF lists (some camera models are not directly supported by Synology, but as long as the camera is ONVIF compliant you should be able to add it to the Surveillance Station software)

Step 10: Select the camera you want to add from one of the lists and click OK

Step 11: Check that all the camera details are filled in, including the cameras username & password (also give the camera a unique name to help you identify it from other cameras)

Step 12: Click the Test Connection button and if the test is successful you’ll get a green tick and a live shot from the camera, you can then click Finish and the camera will be added to your Synology NAS

If the test is not successful you will have to go back and check the camera’s settings are correct, the most common problem is that the camera has an IP address that is not on your network, after you have followed our instructions from a previous video on how to change the IP address you should get a successful connection and be able to add the camera.

Basic Operation

1.1Start Up

After connecting the power supply, the power indicator light will turn on, and the device

will start up. At this time, you will hear a “beep” from the buzzer. By default, the system is in multi-screen mode.

Double-click a single-channel to make it full screen, and double-click again to return to the multi-channel display.

1.2System Login

After the device is powered on normally, you need to log in to the system before operating it. The system will provide corresponding functions according to the permissions of the logged-in user.

The default for the device is “admin” and the default password is blank. You can log in to the system directly the first time after powering on.

1.3Preview

After entering the preview page, double-click the left mouse button to switch between single or multiple display. On each preview screen, the date, time, and channel name can be displayed, and each screen display the recording and alarm status of the monitoring channel.

1.4Quick Menu

In preview mode, click the right mouse button to bring up the quick menu, and click the right mouse button again to exit the quick menu.

Single: Select single channel for live viewing Multi: Select multi-channel for live viewing

Start Scan: Start Scan refers to the system automatically

theorder of the devices in channel lists.

Colour: adjust the brightness, hue, saturation, and contrast of the channel.

E-Zoom: Zoomed in digitally up to 4X or 8X of single channel.

Audio: Set the audio settings for each channel to enable, disable, or mute audio, and adjust the volume. When

[Auto] is selected, the audio will be enabled automatically when switching to the full-screen display

Snap: Snap and save the live view images

PTZ: Control the rotation of the PTZ camera and set the automatic cruise/preset point cruise.

Stop Record: Stop /Start Recording

Right-click and select Playback to choose between Video Playback/Quick Playback, Video Playback: Search for the video you want by time or event, then click Play.

Speed up: Play the video from the next 30 minutes.

The function takes effect when the pause button is pressed.

1.2Setup

Set functional parameters of the device, including: Basic Configuration, Live Configuration, Recording Configuration, Recording Schedule, Alarm Configuration, Network Configuration, User Management, PTZ Configuration, Advanced Configuration.

1.2.1Basic Configuration

Basic configuration contains 3 sub-menus: System, Date & Time, and DST

1.System

[System Type]: The name of the system displayed on the client [Model Number]: Used for controlling multiple NVRs with one remote control [Password Check]: Checking this option means that users must enter a username and password in the system settings and have the corresponding permissions to perform certain operations. [Show System Time]: Choose whether to display the time on the scene. [Max Online Users]: Set the number of network users who can access the device. [Video Output]: Users can select output resolutions 1024×768, 1280×1024, 1920×1080, 2560X1440，etc..

[Logout After (Minutes)]: The system automatically logs out after a set time of inactivity. [Startup Wizard]: Whether to display the wizard on startup.

2.Date and Time Set the date format, time format, time zone, and manually adjust the system time. NOTE: The system default time zone of the system is GMT. You can select [Time Synchronization] to correct the time. The network time server can also be set.

3.DST (Daylight Saving Time)

Set the start and end times of daylight saving time through the week or date.

1.2.2Live Configuration

Live configuration contains 3 sub-menus: Live, Main Monitor, and Video Video Masking.

1.Live

[Camera Name] Click on the camera name, and a software keyboard will pop up. Users can modify the camera name as needed.

Click on the Shift key to switch input method. [Colour] Users can adjust the brightness, hue, saturation, and contrast of the channel.

2.Main Monitor [Interval] The time interval for switching from one channel to another in sequence during channel rotation.

3.Video Masking

Users can mask certain areas in the scene, max 5 areas.

[Mask Setting] Enter the live view, hold down the left mouse button, drag the mouse to set the blocked area, click [Save] to save the setting.

Double-click the area that needs to be deleted, and the area will turn black. Right-click

to exit, and then click[Save] to delete the blocked area.

1.2.3Recording Configuration

Recording configuration contains 4 sub-menus: Enable, Video Quality, Time Stamp , and Snap.

1.Enable

Enable/disable recording functions for a specific channel, or set all channels to default enable. All channels default to enabling circular recording.

2.Video Quality

Note：These functions are not optional [Resolution] The recording resolution for each channel [FPS] The number of frames per second transmitted by the camera image [Max Bitrate] Camera supports maximum transmission bitrate

3.Stamp

[Camera Name] Select whether to display the camera name or not [Time Stamp] Select whether to display time on this channel or not [Position] Click this button and users can use the mouse to drag the camera name and timestamp to any position on the live screen.

1.2.4Recording Schedule

Recording schedule contains 3 submenus: Schedule, Motion, PIR/intelligent.

1.Schedule Note: By default, no recording plan is set for all camera channels. When the customer manually turns off the recording, the user can customize all the camera recording plans

[Apply Setting to]Apply the recording schedule of a certain channel to other channels or all channels.

[Add] Add a recording schedule for a certain day [Delete] Delete the selected schedule

2.Motion The setting is the same as that of scheduled recording, please refer to scheduled recording setting. NOTE: The default schedule for motion detection recording is all selected.

3.PIR

The setting is the same as that of scheduled recording, please refer to scheduled recording setting.

NOTE: The default schedule for PIR detection alarm recording is all selected.

4.Intelligent

The setting is the same as that of scheduled recording, please refer to scheduled recording setting.

NOTE: The default schedule for intelligent detection alarm recording is all selected.

1.2.5Alarm Configuration

The Alarm configuration contains 5 sub-menus: Motion Detection, Video Loss, PIR Detection or Intelligent Detection, Siren-light Alarms and Other Alarms.

1.Motion Detection By analyzing the video image, when the system detects motion signals that reach the preset sensitivity, it will trigger motion detection alarms and activate the linkage

function to push the alarm information to the App or email.

[Enable] After selected, the Motion detection function of the corresponding channel is turned on, and it is enabled by default [Holding Time] Select the alarm delay time for the channel, which can be set to 5s, 10s, 20s, 30s, 60s, 120s, or Always on. [Push Time] Set the time interval for pushing alarm notification to the mobile App, which can be set to 1min, 2min, 3min, 5min, 8min, or 10min. [Trigger] After the camera detects an alarm, the enable function is triggered

[Buzzer] When selected, the buzzer will sound when an alarm triggered [Show Full Screen] When there is an alarm trigger, the alarm will pop up in fullscreen display

[To Alarm Out] Select to trigger the alarm output on a specified channel [Email] When an alarm is triggered, the system will send relevant information to the user’s designated email, such as the alarm event, snapshot, device name, device number, etc. [Snap] When an alarm is triggered, the system will automatically capture and save images of the selected channel [To Record] Select the channel to trigger recording

[Area] In this interface, users can drag the scroll bar to adjust the sensitivity value (1-8), the default value is 7, the smaller the value, the higher the sensitivity. Because the sensitivity is affected by factors such as color and time (day or night), users should adjust the value according to the actual situation.

Click or drag the mouse to select or erase the detection area.

[ALL] set the entire field of view as a s ensitive area

[Save]Click to save settings

[Clear] clear the current detection area [Exit] exit the current setting

The sensitivity index ranges from 1 to 8. The default sensitivity is 7. The lower the value, the more sensitive. The higher the value, the less sensitive.

Note: It is best not to have flags,trees or other objects that are easy to flutter in the wind in the grid for motion detection to avoid false alarms.

[Schedule]

The setting of the motion detection schedule is the same as that of the scheduled recording. Please refer to 4.2.4 [Recording Schedule]-[Schedule] for specific setup steps. This function controls the effective time of the motion detection feature. Note: The default schedule for motion detection is to Select All.

2.PIR

This function needs to be used with a camera with PIR (Passive Infrared) capability. After PIR detection is set, the NVR will only record when it detects human life, and push the alarm notifications to the App or mailbox.

[Channel] Select the channel for setting. [Holding Time] Select the alarm delay time for the channel. Options: 5s, 10s, 20s, 30s, 60s, 120s, Always [Push Time] Set the time interval for alarm notifications to be sent to the App.

Options: 1min, 2min, 3min, 5min, 8min, 10min [Trigger] The setup method is the same as Motion detection. Please refer to 4.2.5 Alarm Configuration – Motion detection-[Trigger]. [Schedule] PIR detection schedule setting is the same as Motion Detection. For detailed instructions, please refer to 4.2.5 Alarm Configuration-Motion Detection-[Schedule].

3.Intelligent Detection By analyzing the video image, the system activates Intelligent detection alarm(for instance human detection, Face detection,vehicle detection and pet detection ) when it detects human figure. Note: The default is to set the whole region. [Schedule]The schedule settings for intelligent detection alarm are the same as motion detection. For detailed instructions, please refer to 4.2.5 motion detection-Schedule. This feature controls the effective time of intelligent detection

4.Siren-Light-Alarm This page includes camera detection settings, alarm type, night vision mode, volume adjustment, and more

Network Configuration contains 3 sub-menus: Network, Email, WIFI Network

1.Network

[HTTP Port] 80 by default [Server Port] 5000 by default [Mobile Port] 5001 by default

[Obtain an IP Address Automatically] Enable automatic IP address acquisition [IP Address] Set the IP address of the device [Subnet Mask] Set the subnet mask of the device [Gateway] Set the default gateway of the device [Preferred DNS Server] This address is provided by your internet service provider (ISP). It must be filled in when using mobile monitoring.

[Alternate DNS Server] This address is provided by your internet service provider (ISP). [PPPOE] Enable this option to establish a network connection using PPPoE. The connected IP address can be checked in[Main Menu]- [Information]- [Network] [User Name] Enter ISP (provided by Internet Service Provider) [Password] The password set [Test] Test whether the input IP address or PPPoE information is valid

2.Email

[SMTP Server] Mail server address, which can be an IP address or a domain name (if it is a domain name, ensure that DNS is correctly configured for proper resolution). For example: smtp.gmail.com [Port] Mail server port number, the default port is 465 [SSL Check] Enable SSL (Secure Socket Layer) protocol for secure login [Send Address] The email address of the mail server [Password] The password for the sender’s email address [Receive Address] When an alarm occurs, it will be sent to the set email address. Up to 3 recipient email addresses can be set [Test] Test the current email configuration to check if it is successful.

3.Wireless Network

1.2.7User Management Manage the user permissions for this device. The default user “admin” is the super administrator and there is no password by default. NOTE: The maximum length for usernames and passwords is 32 bytes.

Advanced Setup contains 2 sub-menus: Reset, System Maintenance

[Reset] Restore all settings to factory settings [System Maintenance] The video recorder defaults to restart automatically every week at 2:00 am on Monday. User can choose to restart Daily, Weekly, Never.

1.3Search

Data search contains Time Search, Event Search, Image

1.3.1Time Search

Select a channel and start playing [Search] Search the video files for the selected channel and time. Click the Play icon to start playback.

NOTE: Dates in the calendar marked with blue squares indicate recorded footage.

1.3.2Event Search

[Search] Search the video files for the selected channel and time. Choose the desired time, click Search and select the file, and double-click the mouse to start playback.

1.3.3Image

[Search] Search for images for the selected channel and time. [Save] Save the currently displayed image to a portable storage device. [Save All] Save all captured images to a portable storage device.

NOTE:

1.The system’s default storage capacity for images is 2000. If the number exceeds 2000, the system will automatically overwrite previously unlocked images.

2.Double-click an image to play back the video from the time when the image was captured.

1.4Backup

By configuring the settings, the video files in the device can be backed up to the external storage device.

NOTE: Before backing up files, make sure to install a storage device that can accommodate the backup files. [Search] Select the files to be backed up based on the time and channel.

[Backup]Select the file that you want to back up in the list and click Backup. The video recorder backs up the video file to the USB flash drive.

1.5Information

Information contains 6 sub-menus: System, Event List, Network, Online Users List and System Update

1.5.1System Display the basic information of the device, including Firmware version,Hardware information, Launch Date, and Device ID. Users can scan the QR code through the ZOSI Smart APP to obtain the mobile port number of the device.

1.5.2Event List Users can select the event information to query, such as motion detection alarm, human detection alarm, vehicle detection alarm, video loss alarm, PIR detection alarm, etc, based on time, channel, and other criteria.

1.5.3Log List

Search the operation information of the logged-in user according to time, operation type, etc. Please note that formatting the hard drive will clear the log information.

1.5.4Network

Check the relevant parameters of the network settings.

1.5.5Online Users List

Check the network user information connected to the local NVR.

1.5.6System Update

Display whether the current version is updated.

1.6Disk Management

[Refresh] Re-detect recognizable hard drives. [Browse] View information of the selected hard drive, including capacity, remaining space, disk status, attributes, total number of pictures that can be stored, and number of pictures that have been saved. [Format]: Delete data in the selected hard drive, including locked files and pictures.

1.7Logoff

The current user logs out of the system. If the user wants to log in again, they can

click on the main menu icon and enter their username and password on the login interface to log back into the device.

FAQ

Q: No Video Output on the Monitor?

•Ensure the lowest resolution of the monitor is no less than 720p.

•Ensure the NVR is powered on normally.

•Check the connection of the HDMI/VGA cable or use another cable to try again.

Q: Failed to Remotely Access the Camera via Mobile Phone or Computer?

•Ensure the NVR is connected to the network normally, you can go to the NVR Menu-Network-Test.

•Test and verify whether you can access the Internet by connecting your phone or computer to the same network as the NVR.

•Reboot your NVR or router.

Q：Does the system support motion detection and image capture?

Threshold: Time, in seconds, that the target must remain within the detection zone to generate an alert.

Sensitivity: Inverse of the percentage of the target area entering the detection zone, relative to the total target area, to generate an alert. The formula that describes this concept is A/A+B>100-S, where A is the target area within the zone, B is the target area outside the zone and S is the sensitivity. A value of 80 will only trigger the alert when at least 20% of the target enters the area.

Percentage: Minimum area (in percentage) of the detection zone that has to be occupied to generate an alert.

TimeLapse and Multi-Shot functions in SAFIRE IP cameras

All SAFIRE professional IP-cameras allow you to perform the TimeLapse function, i.e. to capture an image at stipulated time intervals. In addition, in some new models/versions, there is the Multiple Captures function that allows us to make a predetermined number of captures after an event or an alarm.

Unlink SAFIRE from the local P2P cloud

From the attached software interface, select the device and click on the “Unbind” tab at the top of the mask:

Another way to unbind a SAFIRE recorder from the P2P directly from the recorder:

For this it is necessary that the device has a recent version, therefore we must follow the FAQs on how to update the firmware of a Safire recorder.

After the update, we will access the NETWORK / PLATFORM ACCESS options and then check the availability of the UNBIND button and perform the procedure.

How to reset the password of SAFIRE devices

There are two procedures to recover the password of Safire recorders, and each procedure depends on the system of the HTVR, DVR, NVR or camera you want to recover. In both cases the SADP software is used.

1- Install the SADP from the manufacturer’s website:

2- Run the device finder, which will find the devices by MAC address.

3- Select the device to be recovered and click on the Forgot Password button (bottom right button)

If the software indicates to export a file, follow the procedure from step 4 to 7, while if the software indicates to enter a Security Code follow the procedure from step 8 to 12.

Procedure 1:

4- We are asked to export a file (Export File). Click on the Export button, and select the path where the file is to be saved; confirm.

Procedure 2:

8- You are asked to enter a Security Code9-

Press the Cancel button, and go back to the SADP, you have to take the Serial number and the Start time, and send them to our technical service

This can be achieved in two ways:

a. Go, within the SADP list, to the device from which you want to retrieve the password and look at the data in columns 4 and 5.

b. Click directly on the Export button, to generate the Excel file to be sent to us (to avoid errors when entering the data)

10- Safire will send us some security codes, go to step 3, then step 8 and enter the code according to the date you are in.

We remind you that the correct code for the date (Today) will return the equipment to the factory password, which is “12345”

EXAMPLE

If you request the codes, for example for the 7th of October and you are only going to have access to the equipment on the 9th, you have to use the code corresponding to the 9th of October. It is important that the recorder is not restarted until the password is reset.

The password will be the factory default (User: admin / Password: 12345).

IMPORTANT: When sending the file or the required data, the device cannot be turned off under any circumstances, otherwise the procedure would have to be redone

Change Video, Audio and Compression Format Settings via Web Browser (Cameras)

To change the video and audio settings from a browser, we have to enter the IP of the camera in the address bar:

After accessing the camera with your credentials, we must access “CONFIGURATION” and then the left menu, VIDEO AND AUDIO.

Remember that in some models of IP cameras the image is not encoded in H265 or H265+, therefore the option to modify the compression format may not offer the options mentioned above.

In this other field is where you can modify the values of Bitrates, frames and bit rate type to save the bandwidth used by the camera.

In the image below we can see that the bitrate has decreased a lot by just changing the Video Enconding to H.265 and then enabling H.265+.

We could save even more bandwidth by changing other parameters (such as image resolution), but that depends on each installation, it is not always mandatory.

Create double verification of access to recordings to a non-administrator user

This function is only supported on 8 Series NVRs.

It is sometimes required to restrict access to certain privileges to an operator user, where a coordinator without administrator permits can temporarily allow access to those blocked privileges.

Note:

This article is created on Windows 10 Enterprise Version 21H1 with a 2.20GHz Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8750H CPU.

1. Open the “Edge” browser

2. Go to the top right and click on the options icon

3. Scroll down to Settings section

4. Within the settings go to “Default Browser”

5. On the right hand side, select “Allow”

Endpoint request timed out

The RTSP protocol itself does not have encryption, for that there is SRTP or proprietary implementations, but it is not common in the streams of the main CCTV providers.

RTSP requires authentication with username and password, but it is not transmitted directly encrypted, if encrypted transport is required it would require the use of a tunnel with SSL encryption for the communication channel.

When accessed via Hikvision or Safire P2P service, a verification code is used to encrypt the video stream transmission communication channel, but it does not affect whether the RTSP port is accessed directly (directly on LAN or remotely via NAT).

step 1 – Check that the recording schedule is in Continuous mode.

2nd Step – Configure a VCA or Motion Detection rule.

Check also if the “Notify remote center” option is checked and if the Trigger Recording corresponds to its respective channel, in our case D1.

Once we have these settings we can wait a few minutes and check the events.

With the “SAFIRE CONTROL CENTER” running, go to DEVICE MANAGEMENT and add the recorder to the Software.

3rd Step – Check events generated, choose “EVENT CENTER”

Once in the Event center, select REAL TIME EVENT and then we can check the events in real time.

Once confirmed that there are events we can do a search of the recordings.

4th Step – Check recordings, choose the “REMOTE PLAYBACK” option.

We choose the date according to the search need, the NVR channel and below all the type of Event, in our case we should choose “LINE CROSSING DETECTION”.

We will have a result in which we can choose the files on the right side and below in the line of events, we can choose directly the point to reproduce.

How to install Safire Connect on an Apple Mac laptop or PC with an ARM M1 processor.

1. Open App Store

2. Search for Safire Connect in iPhone and iPad apps

3. Click GET

4. Open the Safire Connect app

5. Login with your credentials.

6. You can now use the app similarly to your mobile device.

Safire – Access IP camera web interface from NVR with built-in PoE switch

If you need to access an IP camera that is connected directly to a NVR PoE switch, you don’t need to connect the network cable from the PC to the NVR PoE switch, just enable the NVR Virtual Host.

1 – Access the advanced network settings / Other and then enable the option indicated, remember that each time you restart the recorder the option will be unchecked, you will have to enable it again.

2 – Access the Camera Management option and click on the link that the recorder enables to access the camera.

This way, the maintenance procedure to the camera will be easier than connecting and disconnecting cables.

First configuration of the Safire Control Center

When you want to connect to your Safire cameras using a PC or laptop with Windows installed:

1. You need to have a Safire IP camera or a Safire recorder

Creating auxiliary screens in SAFIRE CONTROL CENTER

If necessary, the SAFIRE CONTROL CENTER can create up to 3 additional screens to the main software, that is, a total of 4, always depending on the decoding capacity of our PC.

The maximum preview of the auxiliary screen is 3, so a total of 4 windows can be seen with a maximum of 64 cameras per window.

Select the MENU option in Safire Control Center and then select the last option “Auxiliary Screen Preview”.

The SafireService platform architecture is designed to expose only the services that need to be consumed by client applications, i.e. the frontends that render to web browsers and the backends that process requests from these frontends. More complex services such as those that perform device checks do not expose any IP publicly.

GPU Image Decoding in SAFIRE CONTROL CENTER

To have a smoother video display in SAFIRE CONTROL CENTER, it is recommended to enable the option for preferred GPU decoding, if the PC has a dedicated graphics processor.

Open “SAFIRE CONTROL CENTER” and select “SYSTEM CONFIGURATION”

Access “IMAGE” and enable the option marked “Hardware Decoding Preferred”.

Close the software and open it again for the changes to take effect.

How it works when the recorder has two RJ45s in SAFIRE

Safire’s dual RJ45 NVRs can work both ways, one port backing up the other (fault tolerant mode) or independent networks (multi-direction mode), each with its corresponding IP range (similar to an NVR with integrated PoE ports, whose network segments are independent)

HTTPS access on a device from Safire

HTTPS access on Safire computers is disabled by default, to enable it you have to create a certificate, the easiest way is to create it with your own signature:

The data to indicate can be whatever you want, but the Hostname/IP section must be the address of the equipment, so if you indicate the local IP of the same I can only access by HTTPS using that address, not being able to do so remotely; another section to consider is the validity which will expire HTTPS access after these days:

Once this data has been saved, HTTPS can be activated:

To access the equipment will be done indicating https://IP:PORT, the port if it has not been modified and remains the 443 is not necessary to specify it, if it had been changed then it is essential to put it.

EasyConnect (P2P) configuration on a SAFIRE recorder

To access a Safire recorder remotely without the need to open ports, EasyConnect (P2P) must be enabled by following the procedure below:

Accessing the recorder via web interface

1 – Click on Configuration
2 – Advanced settings
3 – Enable by checking the option “Enable” and then a pop-up will appear, click on OK.

4 – Define a password for the Video stream encryption:

We recommend a complex password and preferably different from the “admin” password, it is very important to know that this password is not linked to the recorder administrator’s password.

5 – Very important to check if the STATUS is really ONLINE.

6 – If the device does not connect to the P2P server, check the DNS.

Exporting and importing backups from Safire Control Center software

The steps to export and import the Safire Control Center software backup would be as follows:

Export the software configuration file:

This file is a compressed file that does not need to be unzipped. It contains all the software information

Import the file into the new software:

IMPORTANT: for the backup uploading to work it is essential to close the software, but also the Safire Control Center SERVER service which does not close automatically when closing the software:

When restarting the software we must have all the terminals and configurations of both cameras, video door phones and access controls of the previous software

Configuration recommendations for proper functioning of push notifications in Safire Connect Android

Under Settings – Applications – Safire Connect we must ensure that we have granted all camera, speaker, microphone, etc. permissions and that we have not been denied any.

In addition to this: also make sure that we allow you to use mobile data, as well as wifi

and that in the notification section we have everything marked.

Also in the battery section of your mobile device, make sure that Safire Connect is allowed to work in the background.

All this is usually already activated on many phones, but there are others, especially Xiaomi, where some of the above features may be missing.

Adding Safire cameras or recorders to a SAFIRE NVR remotely

The only point of attention we have to take into account is to open the ports in the router corresponding to the installation of the cameras. And then add that public IP address in the NVR with the proprietary protocol port (which in Safire is 8000).

If it is a recorder that you want to add, by adding the public IP address (with port 8000) of the secondary recorder, a message will appear that allows you to choose specifically which channels of the secondary recorder you want to acquire in the primary recorder.

This option is the most recommended, instead of choosing a NAS, PC-Recorder, ftp, etc… since an NVR is a more reliable computer from this point of view, sinc it is:

– dedicated to this function;

– a kind of device that consumes less energy;

– a device which is managed from the same applications as the rest of the cameras or recorders in the installation, being easier to visualize and from which it’s easy to extract the information in an intuitive way, as well as its configuration (by an ecosystem similarity principle);

– a device which does not involve the payment of licenses;

– a device that can be monitored through the ProCloud service of http://safire.services.

How to set up NAS as a backup disk on a SAFIRE computer

The NAS has to support NFS protocol.

1. Adding the NAS to the team

1.1 Go to the configuration section of the hard disks and click on the button at the bottom left

“Add”.

1.2 In this window, we are going to compile the fields “Network disk IP” and “Network disk direct” with the NAS information.

2. Changing the storage mode of hard disks

2.1 Go to the advanced settings and choose “HDD Group” as the storage mode.

2.2 Click on “Next” and the computer will ask you to restart. We say yes.

3. Formatting the NAS hard drive

When the recorder restarts, it will ask us to format the NAS hard drive. We will accept and go to the configuration section of the disks. From that section we will be able to monitor the progress of the formatting process.

4. Configure the NAS hard drive as a backup

4.1 When the formatting is finished, click twice on the line of the NAS hard disk or on the icon for editing.

4.2 In the window that appears, choose the “Redundancy” option as the status and save the changes by clicking on OK.

5. Finished configuration

If everything has been configured correctly, we will find ourselves with a configuration of this type:

In case we need the recordings from the NAS, we can access the network drive through Windows Explorer and open the files through the VSPlayer software.

How to configure the SNMP monitoring service on SAFIRE (or Hikvision) equipment

The steps to follow are hereby presented:

– install the specific MIB search engine

– log into the recorder via another search engine (e.g. Internet Explorer)

– navigate the machine menu as follows: Configuration–>Network–>Advanced Settings–>SNMP, and once entered the section of interest click on Enable SNMP v2c

– insert in the Trap Address tab the IP address of the computer on which the MIB has just been installed and click on Save

– click on File and then on Load in the MIB search engine

– open the SNMP file you want to use

– insert, in the upper left bar, the IP address of the recorder and click on Advanced Parameters

– fill in the fields of the window that opens with the same data as previously set in the configuration menu of the recorder (except for the IP address, clearly) and click on Ok

– click on File again, then on Save Session and choose a path to save the configuration

– click on the created path, then click on Walk; further on Tools and Trap Receiver to also configure that port (in particular in Tools–>Option), which in the example above we had configured in the recorder as the 162

In this way we can already visualize, in the bar called Operations, all the start/restart/stop events of the recorder.

Video Tampering in SAFIRE

Video Tampering is normally used to detect when the camera is covered, preventing us from seeing the scene properly.

The function can be configured within the basic event section, associated to motion detection:

Different reactions of the device can be configured when detecting video tampering; sending an email, triggering a relay output of the recorder or of the same camera, triggering a recording of any channels, moving to a PTZ preset or sending a push notification to the app.

It is also possible to set the video tampering as active by schedule.

Configuring a RAID1 in a SAFIRE videorecorder

We enter the HDD section, then we navigate the Advanced section and change the mode from quota to group and select the cameras that we want to record in the secondary hard disk’s space.
Once the previous step has been completed, we enter in general and click on the edit button on the hard disk; a screen will appear where we’ll have to check the redundancy box and choose the group that we had previously configured with the desired channels.

Error 153 in Safire Connect

The error is due to a problem in the app that causes it to misinterpret video stream requests to the recorder and to consider them as consecutive access attempts to the computer, which causes the device to lock itself up (in fact, error 153 is usually generated by illegal accesses).

The way to prevent this error from occurring is to uncheck the “Illegal login lock” option. Unchecking it does not take into account illegal access attempts, and therefore the above error does not occur.

In some recorders it can only be done from the Safire Control Center (thus from PC), while it cannot be done from the local menu of the recorder itself.

In cameras, the menu is presented as in the image below:

EasyConnect – P2P device sharing

To share a Safire device with other users, be it an IP camera or a recorder, the procedure is the same.

Let’s demonstrate how to share from a Browser.

Step 1 – Access the website that gives access to the Safire Cloud, http://easyconnect.safirecctv.com/

We’ll be accessing our Cloud account soon.

Once inside our account, we choose the product to share and click on the SHARE option.

A new window will open, and then we will have to enter the email address of the person with whom we want to share the product. In addition, it is very important to define what kind of permissions the person will have.

In this example, our product is a SAFIRE Video Door Phone, therefore if we do not apply all the permissions, the user who benefits from the compartment may not be able to speak or receive the alarms.

So it is very important to apply the permissions correctly.

Safire: Activate an alarm using the IP address from an IP camera.

For this guide we have used a Safire SF-HTVR8108A-HEVC recorder and an IP camera with alarm input.

To activate an alarm input of a recorder remotely from a wireless IP camera is very simple, to do this first access the recorder and go to the menu Camera Management.

Once the IP camera is added, we proceed to the configuration in the recorder. To be sure that the connection is stable and that everything works, we check that the STATUS of the camera is ONLINE.

In the recorder we will access the following menu:

3 – BASIC EVENT

4 – ALARM INPUT

The next step is to set the alarm input:

1 – Alarm input number

2 – Alarm type: We can choose between NO and NC

At this point we already have the Alarm input of our IP camera linked directly to an alarm input of the Recorder.

In LINK METHOD we can choose what to do when the alarm input is activated, such as activating an alarm output of the recorder, moving a PTZ or generating an audible warning on the recorder.

In this way, we have connected the alarm input of an IP camera to an alarm input of the recorder and saved ourselves the wiring.

Checking and updating Firmwares in SAFIRE IP Cameras or video recorders

In this procedure we will use the Internet Explorer browser, we are going to access via IP address to the camera:

After introducing the IP camera address and logging in, let’s click on CONFIGURATION.

In the CONFIGURATION menu, we have to access SYSTEM SETTINGS, and check the device model and firmware version in the BASIC INFORMATION menu.

Then look for the camera model on te VISIOTECH’s website.

Download the file and then extract the update file from the compressed folder you just downloaded. The update file is called digicap.dav. After the file is unzipped, enter the path of the unzipped file folder in the camera’s Upgrade&Maintenance menu.

Click on MAINTENANCE and then on Browse to find the location of the file; once selected, click on Upgrade. A message will appear indicating that the camera will automatically restart after the update. Click OK.

When rebooted, return to the SYSTEM CONFIGURATION menu, and check the version to make sure that the camera has been updated.

How To: Access Your Recordings On The WLNVR via the RXCamView App

Recordings and images will be stored here.

In the RXCamView App, press the person icon in top left corner to open menu.

Select file list.

Here you can see all images and video files recorded onto the device.

These are easily sharable through the app via your email account or even to Google Drive.

How To: Set Up Email Notifications Via The WLNVR Unit.

The device cannot directly send an email itself – you must give it permission to send from an account you have access to (this doesn’t have to be an email account you use all the time, you could set one up just for the recorder to use).

Once you have the email account set up, make note of the username and password.

Next, find out the SMTP addresses of the mail provider (in this example we will use Gmail, however the details will be different for different email providers. The easiest way to find out is to google it) and keep note of this.

Gmail SMTP server address: smtp.gmail.com

Gmail SMTP port (TLS): 587

Gmail SMTP port (SSL): 465

On the main screen of the NVR, right click to bring up the menu along the bottom.

Click the menu icon in the bottom left to bring up the small pop up menu.

Hit set-up and then Network > Email.

Tick the Email box at the top

Change encryption to SSL

Enter the SSL port number in the box below (465 for Gmail)

Enter the SMTP server next (smtp.gmail.com for Gmail)

Next enter the username and password for the account you would like to send from

Enter the name you would like the email to be from in the Sender box (e.g. CCTV Motion Alerts)

Next you can enter up to 3 addresses to receive the email notification.

Using the Interval drop down box, you can set how often these alerts are sent with continued motion alerts.

Finally, you can click through to email schedule, where you can set it to only send alerts for motion at certain days/time but also set exceptions for it to not send an email, e.g. if you know someone will be home at that time.

How To: Set Up The WLNVR From The Box

Initially the NVR will require a screen/monitor with a HDMI input to get it set up, however once all the settings are in place you can happily disconnect it and repower it somewhere else with a wired network connection and it will be controllable via the app!

Repeat for any other cameras – each NVR will support up to 6 cameras.

Setting Up Using The Wizard

Network:

In most cases it will be fine to leave the network settings on default

DCHP will allow your router to automatically assign the device it’s IP address

Changing these settings is for advance networking only

Date & Time:

Set current Date and Time along with any format preferences

Here you can also set daylight savings time

HDD:

Here you can format the HDD and any SD cards inserted by selecting the small circle to the right of the memory device and then clicking format HDD.

This may take several moments

Resolution:

Here you can change the resolution to suit your monitor or screen or to lower the frame rate to save on disk space (this may lower image quality)

Mobile App:

Next you can add the device to the RXCamView App by opening the app, adding device and scanning the QR code.

Summary:

Here you can quickly review your settings before clicking finish and saving.

Remember to check the box to save the wizards settings.

How To: Pair Your Cameras To The WLNVR

Pair your cameras by pressing the small white button on the back of the main camera unit, the red lights will flash to show that it is in pairing mode.

On the screen of the recorder, hover over one of the camera channels and press the sideways camera icon in the middle at the top.

This will pair the camera to that channel on the recorder.

Repeat for any other cameras – each NVR will support up to 6 cameras.

How To: Access The Settings Section On The WLNVR

In the bottom left of the options screen (bring up by right clicking) select the cog for settings.

Here you can set up recording schedules, motion alarms as well as many other camera settings.

How To: Access Recordings and Playback On The WLNVR

On the main screen, right click to bring up the bottom menu.

Select the playback option.

Here you can search for recordings by modifying the date/time as well as selecting the cameras you want to see footage from with the tickbox next to the channel with that camera on.

Once you have video files from the times and places you want to see you can either double click them to go in and view the file or select one or more using the tickbox in the top right.

Once selected you can use the play or backup options along the bottom.

Backup will allow you to export them to a removable USB hard drive.

How To: Enable Push Notifications On The WLNVR via the RXCamView App

In the RXCamView App, press the person icon in top left corner to open menu.

Select notifications.

Select the cog in the top right corner and turn on notifications for your device by using the toggle.

Once switched on, press the cog to configure which notifications you would like; HDD, Motion & low battery.

Remember to Save.

– Select Remote Setting.

– Select your device.

– Go to Motion

Here you can choose the days and cameras that will record on motion.
Remember to save!

Handy Tip: you can press copy on the day or camera to instantly copy your schedule to other days.

In the RXCamView App, press the person icon in top left corner to open menu.

– Select Remote Setting.

– Select your device.

– Go to Motion

Here you can choose with camera you would like to modify one by one.

– Choose how long you would like your NVR alarm to sound for.

– Choose how sensitive you would like the detection to be

– Enable email notifications.

Here you can also change which areas of the cameras view will trigger the alarm as well as distance setting.

When setting up the area for the motion detection any boxes highlighted in red is where the camera will look for motion and any grey/clear boxes will ignore motion detection which happens in the area.

If you are having problems I would recommend highlighting the entire grid red testing it and slowly removing areas you don’t want to be covered.

How To: Take Snapshots And Recordings On The WLNVR via the RXCamView App

While watching a live camera view you can hit the camera or video recorder icon on the bottom of the screen to take a picture or record a video. (See below image)

These will be saved in your file list.

How To: View Multiple Cameras On The WLNVR via the RXCamView App

On the main app screen, if you press the centre icon of a 4×4 grid you will bring up the camera viewing options.

Select the square you would like to add a camera to, then select that camera from the device list below.

Repeat until all cameras have been added.

NVR’s

The NVR provides two basic functions: it network attaches the cameras and provides storage. In fact, the NVR does very little else.

Network services: the NVR provides a central place to access IP cameras. You can attach IP cameras directly to the ports of the NVR or leave the cameras on the LAN. The NVR can be configured attach to those cameras for purposes of centralized access and recording .Centralized access can be viewing on the web console or providing access to integrated solutions such as the ClareOne Panel or a home automation system such as Control4
Recording services: the NVR also provides recording services. You may record full time video or motion events, smart events, alarm events or any combination.

Note:

The NVR does NOT create events. The camera creates all events and the NVR simply records them. Why are the settings in the NVR for motion events, smart events and alarm events? Convenience. The NVR is simply configuring the camera so you do not have to log into each camera to configure an event. Check it out: configure an event in the NVR and log into the camera. You will see the exact settings you configured in the NVR in the camera settings web console.

Tip:

Since many ClareVision cameras come with SD cards installed, when should I use an NVR?

Full time recording: the SD Cards are not useful for full time recording. A 4MP camera will overwrite in less than one day on full time record
Storing multiple event types: the camera will store motion OR smart events OR alarm events. Use the NVR if you need multiple event types stored
Camera count: if you are getting above 2 to 3 cameras, it is probably time for an NVR. Centralized access and storage flexibility will be very useful in those use cases.

Note:

A word about ports on the NVR. Ports and channels often get used interchangeably. For Clare Controls, an NVR port is a PoE port on the back of the NVR. Each port is a “physical channel”. For example, an eight channel NVR has 8 physical channels or ports. A virtual channel is a channel that is connected to the NVR via the LAN port, not a PoE port. Therefore, a channel is a connection between the NVR and a camera whether physically on a port or virtually via the LAN. The following table details the channel count by model number for ClareVision NVR’s:

IP Cameras

The IP camera is where almost everything interesting happens. The IP camera collects, analyzes and forwards video streams and snapshots to one or more clients. The camera can provide service to a mobile app, the NVR and an integrated control system simultaneously. It also provides multiple streams of video in different resolutions and frame rates so the client device can select the stream it can process. The following provides a high level reference highlighting the differences between the Value Series and Performance Series ClareVision IP cameras:

In summary, the camera is where everything interesting happens. The NVR simply provides convenient access and storage.

Setup a ClareVision NVR and IP Cameras

What You Need

Learning by doing is far better than reading articles and watching videos. Before you proceed, you will need the following:

ClareVision IP camera: we will use a Performance series camera in our exercises.
ClareVision NVR
A computer with internet access
A mobile phone with ClareVision installed. (Do not install ClareVision Plus – that is our legacy app)
A wired connection to your LAN
An 8 port PoE switch (you will not leave this at the job site)

Step One: Install the NVR on Your LAN

The following image shows the connection scheme for an ethernet switch connected to an NVR and camera.

Tip:

If you are using an ethernet switch or router with a built in switch, the switch port will have LED’s indicating connection status. One of the LED’s will be the link light. The link light indicates whether data is being transmitted to the NVR. The link light will often flash.

If your link light is flashing on the ethernet switch you are passing data to the NVR. Success!

Step Two: Find the NVR on Your LAN

All ClareVision NVR’s ship with DHCP turned on. DHCP simply means the router will assign an IP address to the camera when it boots up using the LAN IP address scheme. Example:

Router IP Address: 192.168.1.1 (typical)
IP address range that may be available: 192.168.1.2 through 192.168.1.255
Router will assign an address like this: 192.168.1.x, where x can be any number between 2 and 255.

Install and Launch IP Search and select “Search”

All IP cameras and NVR’s regardless of their IP address will appear in the results window. The model numbers will appear as well so you know which one is an NVR.

Next launch a web browser (Chrome or Edge) and enter the IP address of the camera you just installed.

The default USERID is: admin (not case sensitive)

The default password is the first six characters of the UUID. The UUID can be found on the NVR label or the quick start guide.

Step Three: Download the Plugin

The NVR’s and cameras support Chromium browsers. We test on Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome. The plugin dramatically improves video performance vs. browsers without a plugin.

The plugin for the NVR is different than the camera plugin.

Step Four: Update the NVR to the Latest Firmware Release

Clare Controls releases NVR firmware with new features about once every four months. Chances are, your NVR will need to be updated when you take out of the box. There are two ways to update the NVR firmware.

You can go to the NVR firmware database is located here and download the firmware file. You then select manual upgrade by selecting the Configuration tab, Maintenance/Manual Upgrade

Log into the NVR and go to the Configuration tab and click on Maintenance/Online Upgrade to review the firmware version.

Click on “Check”. The NVR will go to our OTA servers and check for an upgrade. If one is available you will be prompted to accept the upgrade. You should always accept.

Next, we will add cameras to the NVR. We will break this down into three steps:

Adding ClareVision cameras to the NVR by attaching to the NVR physical channels
Adding ClareVision cameras to the NVR by attaching them to the NVR virtual channels on the LAN
Adding ONVIF cameras to the NVR (Luma, ClareVision Plus/Legacy, Hikvision etc)

Step Five: Add ClareVision Cameras to the PoE Ports

Attach the camera to the NVR physical PoE port. This connection must be direct and cannot be routed through an ethernet switch on the way to the PoE port. Once connected, wait until the two LED’s on the NVR are illuminated.

The green LED is the PoE power indicator. If it is lit, the NVR is supplying power to the camera. The amber LED is the link light. When this is flashing, the NVR is communicating with the camera.

Now simply wait a couple of minutes…..

Go to the Live View tab and click on the left side of the icon next to the channel number to which you connected the camera. A small green indicator will light up just to the left of the “C” in the word channel. The camera video should show up in the appropriate tile. In the example below, the camera is connected to physical channel one and shows up in tile number one on the Live View Screen.

What just happened?

The NVR powered the camera and the camera booted up. Upon boot-up the NVR discovered the Clare Camera, added it to the channel list based on the port number to which it was attached, the NVR assigned the camera a static IP address based on the NVR’s private IP subnet and changed the camera UserID and password to match the NVR admin UserID and password. That is Plug-n-Play.

You can continue adding cameras to the physical channels of the NVR and all will behave as noted above.

Step Six: Add ClareVision Cameras to the Virtual Channels (on the LAN)

Let’s assume you had no way to physically route a wire back to the NVR, but wanted the camera on the NVR. No problem – you are now going to add the camera to a ‘virtual channel’ on the NVR.

To do so, go to the Configuration tab, Channel/Camera.

This NVR is the CLR-V200-8PNVR2, 8 channel NVR. Notice it has 10 cameras on it. To discover new cameras, click on the “Add” button.

What just happened?

Based on the selection in the dropdown box in the upper right corner, the NVR just scanned all physical ports and the LAN for any ClareVision (private) and ONVIF cameras. It found two that were not on the NVR prior to the scan.

If a camera shows up as private and you click in the white box on the left side of the row, and click “Add”. The camera will be added exactly the same way it would have been added had it been on a PoE port – Plug-n-Play.

That is really all there is to adding ClareVision cameras to a ClareVision NVR.

Step Seven: Adding ONVIF cameras to a ClareVision NVR.

Let’s assume the ONVIF camera is on the general LAN like in step six above. Follow the exact same procedure as in step six, plus the following:

In the channel screen below, click on the edit link in for the ONVIF camera you just added

The following screen will pop up:

Enter the ONVIF UserID and Password for the discovered camera, click “OK”.

Note:

ONVIF must be enabled in the camera being attached to the ClareVision NVR. The NVR uses WS-Discovery to find ONVIF cameras. If ONVIF is not enabled the NVR will not discover the camera. Several Hikvision models require and ONVIF user to be enabled to allow connection to the camera via ONVIF. Consult your installation manual for the camera you are trying to attach to the ClareVision NVR if it does not discover for additional details.

This ARTICLE details adding an ONVIF camera to a PoE port on the NVR. The process is slightly different than detailed above.

Step Eight: Aligning Connections to Channels on Your NVR

The NVR will assign channels based on either the physical connection (PoE port 1, 2 etc) or based on the order in which they were attached for virtual channels. The first camera added to the NVR on the general LAN will be assigned to channel 9, the second to channel 10 etc.

Let’s say you had 10 cameras, but only ONE on a physical channel / PoE port. The Live View screen would show a camera in tile 4 since that is where it was attached. The next 8 cameras would automatically be assigned to ports 9 through 16.

Two problems – what about the 10th camera and the NVR Live View Screen would be very awkward showing one camera on tile 4 and 8 cameras on tile 9-16.

This where PoE bonding configuration becomes very handy.

PoE bonding allows you to decouple the logical connection between a physical channel and a channel number. In the example above, all channels besides channel 4 are unbonded from the physical ports. This makes 7 of the first nine channels available for virtual channel assignments.

Two problems just got solved:

We now have enough channels for the 9th camera located on the LAN
The channel assignments are now 1-10 making the NVR preview interface very organized.

It was the un-bonding process that allowed the channel list to appear as orderly as it did in the above example.

Caution:

The channel list is very important to get organized up front before you start configuring cameras and recording schedules. Get your list sequential and in the order in which you want channels to appear in the Live View screen before you do anything else. You can see in the edit screen shown above the channel number is configurable. Do all of this organization before you start setting up recording, integrating to ClareOne, Control4 or setting up the mobile app.

If you get the channel list twisted up and want to start over, you can default the camera list alone by going to the Configuration tab Maintenance/Default

Click on the “Camera” button and the channel list will be wiped. You can start over.

Step Nine: Setting up Events on Your Cameras

Now that your cameras are solidly on the NVR, it is time to set up motion and smart events for all of your cameras. The good news is you can do all of that from the NVR interface.

Note:

Remember, the NVR does not analyze video or create events, the cameras do that. When you access the NVR menu to configure an event such as motion, you are really just using the NVR to configure the camera.

The only thing you configure on the NVR that is actually an NVR setting is the recording schedule.

Go to the Configure tab and select System/Motion Event or System/Smart Event. In the following example, System/Motion Event was selected

This configuration screen is extremely similar to the native camera configuration screen. If you make changes here to the motion grid layout for example and log into the camera, you will see the changes you made from the NVR web UI.

Warning:

You must have the Channel Recording option selected AND the event enabled for the camera channel to record and send push notifications. The Channel Recording box is selected by default from the factory. Do not deselect it.

The drop down menus for channel selection are smart and will only show you the channels that have cameras that support that event type.

As an example, although this NVR has 10 cameras on it, only 5 support smart events.

Although those articles are written referencing the camera web user interface, they are extremely similar on the NVR.

The recommendations related to Event Arming vs. Record Schedule apply to the NVR setup as well.

Caution:

It is easy to get confused by the multiple calendars that are in a camera or NVR. The event arming schedule shown above is the primary calendar you need to manage.

If your installation requires events to be disabled during certain hours of the day or days of the week ALWAYS do the following:

1. Use the event arming schedule to control when the event will be analyzed and propagated

2. Leave the record schedule on 7×24 record. DO NOT try to match the two calendars – use the event arm schedule to control when events happen NOT the record schedule.

Let’s move on to recording!

Step Ten: Setting up Recording on Your NVR

The primary difference, other than capacity, between camera based recording and NVR based recording is the NVR can record all event types and full time record simultaneously while the camera can only record one event type to the SD card.

Recording schedules are setup under the Configuration Tab Storage/Recording Schedule.

You can record any one or all of: normal (full time), motion, alarm, motion and alarm and smart events (intelligent).

Warning:

You must check the enable box for any recording to happen on the selected channel.

At the risk of being completely redundant, if you are arming an event such as motion or smart events you should set the recording to 7×24 and use the event arming schedule to control when the camera will propagate that event type. Doing so will ensure the user will always have an event to look at in the event log of the mobile app when a push notification is sent.

To change a recording parameter, just click on a line and the following will pop up:

Lastly, “More Settings” is where you will find pre-record and post-record settings.

Step Eleven: Directly Accessing Your Cameras that are on the Physical Channels

The cameras that are on the physical channels will not show up on an IP scan and are not accessible on the general LAN.

Note:

The four channel NVR does expose the cameras on an IP Search scan, but are not accessible from a browser interface on the general LAN. The 8 and 16 channel NVR’s do not expose the physical ports at all.

Enter the Virtual Host. You can access any camera, whether on the Virtual Channel or a Physical Channel (PoE Port) using the Virtual Host.

Go to the Configuration tab, Channel/Camera:

Click on the IP address in the right column and you will be taken to a login screen for that camera:

Notice the IP address is really the NVR with a port number. From this screen you can log into the camera, check settings, configure local record and manage firmware updates. You are accessing the camera directly.

Tip:

When integrating ClareVision cameras to control systems such as Control4, use the ClareVision Camera driver, not the NVR driver. The IP address you use is the NVR IP address with the associated port number as shown above. When you integrate that way, you are using the NVR to proxy access to the camera, but using an ONVIF driver to access video streams, snapshots, motion events and smart events. You can create push notifications and/or rules in the Control4 automation system based on events in the camera when you integrate in this fashion. (Events are not available in the NVR driver)

Use the NVR UserID and password, and we are in!

Step 12: Adding the NVR to the ClareVision Mobile App

Now that you have set up your NVR, it is time to add it to the ClareVision app. It is quite simple.

Launch the ClareVision App

Tap the ‘Plus’ sign and you will be presented the following options:

Selecting NVR will cause the app to bring up a different user interface than it does for an individual camera

Tap the NVR Icon and you will be presented with the three options shown below.

If you tap device is on the network, the app will scan the LAN for any ClareVision cameras or NVR’s and present them in the following screen. Device is on a remote network provides you with the option of scanning a QR code for a camera on a remote network. The system will locate it anywhere in the world and provide you with a login screen to add the remote camera or NVR.

In our example, we tapped on “Device is on the local network” and two devices were found.

And DONE!

You just successfully installed, configured and enabled a ClareVision NVR with ClareVision cameras on and off the physical ports as well as adding an ONVIF camera. We then connected the NVR to the ClareVision mobile app. Push notifications and events as configured will automatically propagate to your customer’s mobile device!

Closing:

This was not an attempt to explain in great detail every option/setting/configuration in the NVR. Rather this article was intended to give you a simple step by step guide to setting up and NVR with cameras in multiple configurations from multiple manufacturers. If you follow the steps in the order detailed you will win more than you lose.

How to add ONVIF Cameras to a Physical Port on a ClareVision NVR

This article will walk you through the details on adding an ONVIF camera to a physical port/channel on a ClareVision NVR

Overview

This article will provide you with the information needed to add an ONVIF camera to a ClareVision NVR.

ClareVision NVR’s are ONVIF S/T compliant as a client whereas the cameras are ONVIF S/T compliant as devices. ONVIF compliance implies ClareVision NVR’s will enable discovery, receive and record streams, snapshots and motion events from ONVIF compliant devices.

Background on Discovery and Attachment

ONVIF uses a multicast method called WS-DISCOVERY. In essence the NVR sends out a multicast message to the network. All ONVIF devices listen for that multicast message to respond with information required to address the camera on the network. Remember, multicast discovery DOES NOT USE the IP address of the device it uses a multicast IP address. Here are a few things WS-DISCOVERY does not do:

It does not modify or change the IP address of the discovered device
It does not modify or change the UserID of the discovered device
It does not modify or change the password of the discovered device.

What does this mean in practice?

ClareVision NVR’s can discover ONVIF cameras anywhere on the LAN or on the physical channels of the NVR and display the existence, model number and IP address of the discovered device in the channel list. It DOES NOT mean it can communicate with it. Here are few facts to consider using Luma as an example (applies to any ONVIF camera):

Out of the box, a Luma camera has a static IP address of xxx.xxx.xxx. If the camera is on your local domain and your local domain has a different address scheme the router will route exactly zero messages between the ClareVision NVR and the Luma camera.
There is no discovery method in ONVIF to transmit UserID’s and passwords, so even if the Luma camera is on the same domain as your NVR, the NVR will not auto-discover the UserID or password.
If the Luma camera is on the physical port of the NVR, it will not be on the private domain of the ClareVision NVR (default 192.168.11.xxx). As a consequence, the NVR will not communicate with the Luma camera at all.

Attaching a Luma or ONVIF Camera to a ClareVision NVR on a Physical Port

Step One: Initialize the camera and set the UserID and Password

Refer to you Luma or ONVIF camera user guide for UserID and setup.

Note:

Some ONVIF cameras do not have ONVIF turned on by default. Consult your user manual to determine the default status of ONVIF on the device and ensure it is active and the UserID and Password for that user on the device is known. For example, some Hikvision cameras require you to set up a specific ONVIF user while others do not.

Step Two: Set the Device IP Address to the Domain of the ClareVision NVR

The ClareVision NVR private domain is defaulted to 192.168.11.xxx. That default can be changed under the Configuration tab, System/Network:

The bottom cell – Internal Net Card IP sets the private domain.

Make sure your ONVIF camera is on your general LAN and go to your network settings on your ONVIF camera and set the network settings as follows:

DHCP: disabled

IP address: 192.168.11.xxx, where XXX can be any address between 3 and 255. We recommend starting assignments at 26 to stay out of the range of the NVR’s aut0-assignment range.

Step Three: Move the Camera to the Physical Port of the NVR and Use Manual Add

Once you set the IP address as required, you will not longer be able to log into the camera on your general LAN. Move the camera to any physical port of the NVR and let the camera boot up.

To to the Configuration tab, Channel/Camera

Hit “Manual Add”

You must select the channel, enter the UserID and password, the IP address and the port number. Once complete, hit “Save”

That’s it, you just added and ONVIF camera to a physical port of the NVR. Using ONVIF, the NVR will allow you to configure motion events, schedule recording of motion or full time recording. You can use the NVR driver or the camera driver via the Virtual Host as you can with ClareVision cameras and the live view, snap shots and events will all propagate to the ClareVision mobile app.

Note:

Notice in the protocol column that your ONVIF camera listed ONVIF and the ClareVision camera listed Private. It is the Private Protocol that allows cameras and NVR’s from the same manufacturer to exchange information and settings without manual intervention. The ClareVision Private Protocol, upon discovery, will change the IP address of the camera if on a physical port and assign the NVR UserID and password to the camera which is what provides the Plug-n-Play feature set.

ClareVision Display Capacity and and Bandwidth Explained

The following article explains incoming bandwidth and online display capabilities of ClareVision NVR’s.

Overview

Incoming bandwidth is a often overlooked, yet important specification on NVR’s. Incoming bandwidth limits dictate the number of cameras you can record simultaneously and may impact the reliability of the real time (Live View) displays if not configured correctly.

Bandwidth or Incoming Bandwidth: this specification is related to the NVR’s ability to process inbound video streams, primarily for storage purposes.
When considering inbound video streams you must take into account both those channels that are being recorded AND those channels that are being viewed. It is the sum of that traffic that determines incoming bandwidth requirements.

The following note walks you through how bandwidth is calculated, what impacts bandwidth, the capacity of the ClareVision NVR’s and tips you can use to quickly configure NVR’s without a lot of hassle

Bandwidth

The bandwidth of the NVR is related to the NVR’s ability to process and record incoming video streams from cameras of varying framerates, resolutions and encoding schemes. The following details the bandwidth for ClareVision NVR’s

The following camera settings impact bandwidth:

1. Resolution

2. Frame rate

3. Encoding scheme (H.264 vs. H.265)

4. Max bitrate

Let’s take these one at a time, then summarize with a quick calculator you can use to predict the bandwidth requirements of your camera system.

Resolution:

The ClareVision Camera line includes cameras from 2MP to 8MP. A 2MP camera has roughly 2 million pixels whereas an 8MP camera has roughly 8.3 million pixels, or four times the pixel density of a 2MP camera. While that is true, because of encoding, the bandwidth will not necessarily track linearly with the pixel density, but it is safe to assume higher resolutions will result in increased bandwidth.

Framerate

The framerate is the number of frames per second transmitted from the camera to the NVR. The framerate is a video setting and can be set from 1 to 30FPS. ClareVision cameras come defaulted to 15FPS which is more than enough to display fluid motion. We do not recommend increasing the FPS beyond 15 FPS

Encoding Scheme

There are two encoding schemes in ClareVision NVR’s: H.264 and H.265. These encoding schemes essentially transmit only changed pixels from frame to frame rather than sending the entire image. After an interval called the I-Frame interval (ClareVision is set to 75 frames), the camera will transmit the entire image and follow with changes only for following frames. As a result, the amount of compression you will realize will depend upon how much movement there is in the field of view of the camera. If you have a lot of movement, the compression economy will be lower than if there is very little activity in the field of view.

Note:

H.265 is a more current encoding scheme and is therefore more efficient than H.264. You can generally assume H.265 will use 50% of the bandwidth of H.264.

Max Bitrate

The max bitrate is a setting that governs, as an override, the maximum bitrate the camera will use irrespective of the settings above. Max bitrates are used with ClareVision cameras with the bitrate mode set to variable. This simply means the bitrate consumed will be the actual bitrate required UP TO the max bitrate setting. Generally, you should leave this setting alone UNLESS you change the encoding scheme (e.g. H.264 to H.265)

Pro Tip:

The max bitrate is set for H.264 in all cameras. If you change the encoding scheme to H.265, you may want to change the bit rate to match the bit rate requirements for H.265. While leaving the max bit rate at the H.264 bitrate will not impact camera performance, that figure is used to determine bandwidth limits for the NVR and display warnings in the user interface may persist if the ALLOWED bandwidth maximum is exceeded per this setting.

NVR Bandwidth Exception Symptoms

The most obvious symptom you are exceeding the NVR bandwidth is dropped frames in a live view or dropped frames in playback. You may also miss motion event recordings in playback but see the event in the event log.

Note:

The most obvious place you will see a bandwidth exceeded error message is in the NVR terminal interface (HDMI port output). If you see a message box appear indicating the bandwidth has exceeded capacity, the settings above must be adjusted.

Caution:

If you are going to load the 8 or 16 channel NVR to capacity with 8MP cameras, you will need to change the encoding to H.265 and reduce the max bitrate to a maximum of 5MBPS in each camera.

Impact of Display (WEBUI or Terminal) on Bandwidth

It is very common to display stream 2 on the webui and the terminal (HDMI) interface when in grid view. If you are going to leave the NVR’s HDMI interface on a monitor for extended periods of time, you will need to take into account the bandwidth that second stream uses for each channel (stream 2) displayed on the grid view on the monitor (or Webui).

The default for stream 2 on all ClareVision cameras is D1 resolution or 0.3MBPS at 15 FPS using H.264. While not terribly significant, if you are running the NVR at its capacity with the recording streams and you have 25 images on a grid view, you are adding 8MPBS to the incoming bandwidth of the NVR with the live view running.

Note:

If you are using the terminal interface, and the warning message pops up stating you are exceeding the network bandwidth, it is likely NOT the grid view creating the problem, it is the recording settings on stream one that are creating the problem. Go back and review your encoding settings, framerates and max bitrate settings for stream one on each channel.

Summary

Recording settings and camera display both affect incoming NVR bandwidth. Since recording is usually assigned to stream one, recording settings and the configuration of stream one on the cameras is far more impactful on incoming bandwidth than is the online display using stream two. Nonetheless, you are much more likely to see the impact of exceeding incoming bandwidth using one of the online displays (Webui or terminal interface). Do not be misled – go to the stream one settings, do the math, and make sure you are not exceeding the bandwidth of the NVR. If you are:

Make sure the frame rate is set to 15FPS
Set the encoder to H.265
Change the max bit rate as needed (8mp is 5MPBS)

IC Realtime Password Reset This guide will walk you through initializing the recorder properly so the password can be reset by the client without sending a technician onsite.

Recorder Initialization & Password Reset – New Recorder Interface

This guide will walk you through initializing the recorder properly so the password can be reset by the client without sending a technician onsite. If the Initialization steps are not done correctly, the only way to reset the password is to call IC Realtime Technical Support and use a Backdoor Password at the recorder. The steps below require a monitor or TV (HDMI or VGA) connected directly to the recorder, as well as a USB mouse.

When the recorder boots up the first time, you will see the Device Initialization window come up. The first screen has you choose a Location (Country), Language, and Video Standard. The most important option is the Video Standard. It needs to be set to NTSC for use in the United States. When the settings are verified correct, click the Next button.

The 2nd window allows you to select your Time Zone and manually enter your time. Verify your settings and click the Next button.

On the following page, you will set the device password for the admin user account. You will be have to enter a password that has a minimum of 8 characters. Passwords are case-sensitive, and you can use letters, numbers, and the symbols found along the top row of the onscreen keyboard. NOTE: Some software (ConfigTool on Mac OS, for example) will not allow you to use anything other than letters and numbers for the password. A minimum 8-character password with a combination of letters and numbers is sufficient for security purposes, as our recorders are less susceptible to Brute-force password attacks than other devices due to the account lockout. The Prompt Question field is used to create a password reminder, which can be viewed from the login screen once the recorder has been initialized.

The next step is to create an Unlock Pattern connecting at least 4 of the 9 dots in a 3×3 grid. The pattern can be used in lieu of using the username & password on the local monitor. Left-click & hold the left mouse button to draw the pattern. If you choose to draw the pattern, you will be asked to draw it once, then draw it again to set it. Once you draw the pattern a second time, the screen will automatically change to the Password Protection screen. If you choose not to use the pattern, click the Skip button.

The last step in the process is THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP if you wish to prevent the need for a backdoor password. You will be asked to choose and answer 3 Security Questions that will allow you or your client to reset the password. You may choose meaningful questions and answer them with unique answers, or you may choose to give the same answer to each question. Each question has a number of options, which can be accessed by left-clicking once anywhere in the Question field. If you choose not to set the Security Questions, click the Green button next to Security Questions to disable them. When you are finished with the Security Questions, click the Save button to continue.

After the Device Initialization is complete, you will be taken through the Startup Wizard. Using the Startup Wizard will guide you through enabling auto-updates (although this is an option on our recorders, we do NOT yet have an upgrade server that will push out firmware updates to our cameras or recorders), general settings, Network Time Protocol (NTP) & Daylight Saving Time (DST), Network, P2P, Basic, Encode, and Schedule settings for your recorder. All of the Settings in the Startup Wizard can be configured later using the main menu. When you finish the Startup Wizard, click the OK button when you see the Thank you for purchasing our product prompt, and your recorder is ready to go.

Password Reset

To reset a forgotten password, right-click on the screen to bring up the System Login window. Click either the Forgot Pattern or Switch User buttons to go to the traditional login screen. There are icons to the right of both the User Name and Password fields. The icon next to User Name will show the Prompt Question that was set when the password was established when the mouse hovers over the icon. If the password is still unknown, click the Forgot Password icon to the right of the Password field . This will bring up the Reset Password – Security Questions screen, shown below.

Type the Security Question answers into their respective fields (answers are case-sensitive), then click the Next button. On the next screen, you will be asked to enter & confirm your new password for the admin account. Enter the password in the boxes next to New Password and Confirm Password, then click the Save button.

If the password is accepted, you will see the Successfully reset password message. Click OK on that message, and you will be taken to the System Login screen, where you will need to type your new password to access the settings.

Acquiring an Unlock Code

Users that no longer have credentials to login will need to fill out a Forgot My Password request using this link . An iCare specialist will work with you to facilitate this and provide an unlock code.

Prerequisites

Serial Number of unit (This will be needed to generate Unlock Codes for units purchased after 2016)
Date the recorder is currently set to (This is important in generating the proper Unlock Code as well)
HDMI Monitor and USB Mouse attached to Recorder. Login must be completed using the local GUI system. (Unlock Codes will not work through web GUI or software)

Using a mouse attached to the Recorder, right click and select “Main Menu”. This will populate the login screen. Click on “Forgot Pattern” as shown on image below.

Answer the security questions then click “Next.”
If answered correctly, you will be prompted to create a new password and to confirm the new password as shown below:

Unlock Code Login Method (If not using Security Questions Method)

Using a mouse attached to the Recorder, right click and select “Main menu”. This will populate the login screen. If your login screen requires a pattern, click on “Forgot Pattern” as shown on image below. Otherwise move to the next step.
Login with username “admin” and the Unlock code (or one of the unlock codes) given.
If successful, you may have a prompt populate as shown below. If so, create a new password under “New Password” and type in the same password under “Confirm Password.” You can also create a Password Hint. The new password setup is now complete. If you do not have this prompt, you will be logged in to the Main Menu (as admin). Follow the next steps.
In the Main Menu, go to Settings > System > Account. Click on “Add User” as shown below. You will need to create an new admin level account (group level set to admin) to modify the “admin” account. This is because user accounts cannot be modified if they are currently logged in.
Once you have created a new account, right click and go to Main Menu. Select “Shutdown” and then under the drop down, select “Logout” or “Logout Menu User” as shown below. This will log you out of the “admin” account so you can login with the new account that was set up in the previous step.
Right click then select “Main Menu.” Login with the new account that was set up in Step 4 then go to Settings > System > Account. Click on the “admin” account then click on “Modify”
Under “Old Password”, input the Unlock Code. Input a new password under “new Password” and copy that password under “Confirm Password.” Click “Save” when done.

Password Management

The management of usernames and passwords lies solely with the end customer. It is their responsibility to document and save these credentials. IC Realtime does not save your device login information and is not able to provide any user created or changed user names or passwords. IC Realtime strongly urges end customers to document security system credentials in some type of password management system, like KeePass or LastPass.

Best Practices

Document all of your credentials in a Password Management System, like KeePass or LastPass.
When setting up a new recorder, follow the Initialization process and answer the security questions. In the event of a lost password, the security questions can be answered to reset the admin password (the security questions can be the same answers. It is recommended to document the questions and answers as well)
Create a different admin level user / account as a backup as well as different accounts for lower level user access only.
Setup a password Hint. If you have this option, creating a password hint will help to remember the password.

How to solve the problem of camera connect failed?

Please follow these steps to troubleshoot

Please check if the white antenna on the camera is loose first.

1)Cover the sensor under lens on the camera to see if the light is lit or not.

If it’s bright, it means camera is not bad.

If it’s not lit,You can connect the power of a good camera to the bad camera.

In the case of determining that camera is not broken.

2）right-click the mouse> video manage> Refresh / Search

3) if your camera with reset button, no LAN port, please take camera close to your NVR

1. delete the connect failed channel

2. press the reset button on camera for 10 seconds

3.Right click the mouse again > wireless add > wait the screen show a new camera IP address 172.20.14.**

4. if no IP address, pls reset camera for several times,

After adding the camera successfully, you can exit the add camera interface

4) if your camera with Lan port

Pls use an Ethernet cable connect the camera to your NVR.

Delete the connect failed Channel>Refresh(Search) find IP address 192.168.**.**>Match Code(wait for IP address change to 172.20.14.**)

After that you can unplug the Ethernet cable.

HDD not fund / Not record anything

Please refer to these below to solve the HDD not fund issue.

1）Check the power adapter connected to the NVR box. The NVR box uses 12V 2A or 12V 3A power supply. If you connect the 12V 1A cameras’ power supply to the NVR, the NVR box will not provide enough power to drive the hard drive.

2) If hard drive is preinstalled, there are 4 screws at the bottom of NVR box.

3）Check Hard Drive Information on NVR box and Format it

Right click the mouse>system setup>General setup>HDD setup>select the hard disk>Click Format, if the progress bar always shows a few percent or the formatting is failed, please contact with us.

4) Please open the NVR with a screwdriver, check the two cables connecting the hard drive and see if they are loose.

5）Take the hard disk out and install it on your computer. Check if the computer can recognize the hard disk. This is to confrim the HDD is the problem or not.

How to solve Gateway Unreachable or Network Error

If you click “fast network” to appear: Gateway Unreachable or Network Error , pls fellow below steps:

Step 1:

1) you must check if the network line is faulty or not: check whether the switch and router line connection are correct.

2) Can you connect to the external network normally through the computer wired connection?

Notice: Do not directly connect the recorder to the fiber

Step 2: Right click mouse and choose Fast Network —-> Auto config ,check if the network will be healthy or not

Step 3: If the auto config still can’t make it work , pls kindly check the same network computer network setting

Then “manual configuration” set the recorder network settings, don’t choose DHCP, input the same IP address and gateway and submask same as your computer

Offline

1)Pls Connect NVR to your router with an Ethernet cable. After that right click the mouse > Fast network.

2)If Step 1 doesn’t work, Maybe the Ethernet cable is damaged. Please replace it with a new one

3)If there is no problem with the cable.

Pls right click the mouse> system setup >Network setup>Do not choose DHCP>Change DNS to 114.114.114.114 or 8.8.8.8 > Power off the NVR and power on again(Reboot the NVR)

4)You can also connect the NVR to your home WiFi,

Enter the wireless internet interface > Select your home WiFi and enter your password > Apply

Change the display channel of the camera

When you select the corresponding channel, you can click the two buttons on the left, and then move the channel

You can also drag the image directly to another channel

How to set up Motion Detection？

1)Enable Motion Detectin on NVR Monitor

Pls right click the mouse>system setup>Channel Setup>Video detection>Selecting the Channel for Motion Detection>Choose the form of alarm>After you set it up you can Click “Copy to” to set to all channel

2) Set the area of motion detection to be set within the field of view of the camera.

3)App Alarm

a)Select App Alarm on NVR

b)Click three dot> Alarm push

c)Click System authority settings, turn on all permission of the app.

How can I view the camera remotely?

There are four methods to view the camera system remotely. Please refer to these step below.

1) First you need to connect the NVR with your router by wired or WiFi

Wired connection

1. wired connection, connect the NVR with router by ethernet cable

2. right click your NVR mouse choose fast network, then click auto config, check cloud ID status is online and network is healthy, then you can remotely check the system on your phone app

3. if not online and healthy network, please click manual configure, and check your router detail,

make sure the NVR and your router is the same IP gateway, IP address the first 3 number should be the same, the last one can’t be the same ,. preferred DNS please change to 8.8.8.8 and apply it

WiFi connection

1. please notes our NVR only can work with 2.4Ghz wifi network,

2. right click your NVR mouse choose system setup–network setup–wireless internet –enable wireless LAN, then find your house wifi name, input password, apply it

（please note the wifi name can not included any special character ,such as “_”, otherwise it will show connected failed.）

3. check the status is connect failed or success, if it is failed, please click view details,

check the same wifi network details on your phone and your NVR, then change them to the same IP gateway, IP address the first 3 number should be the same, the last one can’t be the same ,. preferred DNS please change to 8.8.8.8 and apply it

there are 2 ways to upgrade

1) online upgrade, connect the NVR with router by LAN cable , right click your NVR mouse and choose system setup–system admin–system upgrade–online upgrade

2) offline upgrade, you need copy the firmware to the USB disk and choose local upgrade the firmware you cane email Johnny@hiseeu.com to get it

3) after you upgrade successfully, pls right click your NVR mouse and choose system setup–general setup–error setup–disable alarm icon.

Connect the camera to WiFi, then add it to NVR

You can connect the camera to your home wif and then add it to NVR.

First you need to press the reset button for 6s on the camera to reset the camera,

1) Please refer to pages 4 to 6 of the manual in the attachment to connect the camera directly to your mobile app,

２）First, you need to connect NVR to your router,

Then search the NVR for the camera connected to WiFi

Right Click the mouse > Video manage > Change the “protocol” to “onvif” > Search > Add one

if it show Password Error, please go to your phone app , click “…”–“Edit” then on blank place quickly click 6 time you will see cameras password here, go back to NVR video manage page, select the correct channel, click Manual Edit to input camera password .

What to do when the screen color is not displayed correctly

1） Click the mouse to select the screen –> click the 3rd icon (color adjust)

2) Click Default button–>select Ircut mode–>Ok

1:Please check if there is a microphone hole on the back of the camera.

B)If you don’t have a VGA cable but have another monitor, you can connect the camera system to another monitor.

3）Then change the output resolution of NVR.(Right click the mouse>system setup>General setup>Screen setup>Output resolution)

Set an appropriate resolution and switch back to the original HDMI Cable.

4）If the display is still not displayed, you can choose another resolution.

If camera often loses signal with NVR？

You can use the following four methods to solve the problem of poor camera signal

Please check if the white antenna on the camera is loose first.

1)First, you can change the wireless channel of the camera system to ‘other’, and the antenna of NVR is better to stand up

Right click > system setup > Network setup > change Wireless channel to “other” > Apply

Then restart the NVR, unplug the power supply of the NVR and plug it in again

2）You can replace the white antenna on the camera with the black extension antenna in the package, so that the black extension antenna passes through the wall.

Place the camera next to the NVR to ensure that there is a good signal between the camera and the NVR.

3）You can set a camera as a WiFi repeater to enhance the signal between the camera and the NVR.

4）You can also buy a WIFI repeater, which also enhances the signal between the camera and the NVR.

How to use the wifi repeater to enhance signal

When the repeater is powered on, its indicator lights up.

Press the reset key for 10 seconds and it will deletes all previous matching records

How to use it on NVR.

1)Connect the repeater to NVR by Ethernet cable

2)click “Search” and then there will disappare a device which IP address is “192.xx.xx.xx”

Click it, it will pop up a new window

click Match button to let the status become “wireless has been matched”

At this point, you can unplug the Ethernet cable.

4) back to the Video Manage interface and click the Repeater .it will show the same window as the figure below.

How to add an extra camera?

when you receive the new camera , there is no match between the nvr box and the new camera. You need to pair them.

4)if no IP address, pls reset camera for several times, then you can exit,

How to solve “Resolution too big”?

Our system upgraded , the “Resolution too big” camera is 3MP, old system can’t work with 3MP camera

1. right click your NVR mouse choose system admin–system version to check NVR version is 2.8 version or 3.0 version

2. if it is 3.0 version, you can upgrade it to latest firmware then it can support 3MP cameras (3.0.6.0 version and above version)

how to upgrade to NVR?

1) Online upgrade : go to system admin-system upgrade-then click online upgrade, wait for it upgrade successfully, then camera will show image

2) Offline upgrade, please email Johnny@hiseeu.com with your system version page , then she can provide firmware to you

3. if it is 2.8 version,the only way can fix is to upgrade camera firmware

right click your NVR mouse–system setup–system admin–IPC maintance, then take a screenshot of camera version, email : johnny@hiseeu.com for resolution too big problem.

4. after you get the firmware, please copy to your USB DISK root, format should be FAT32,go to IPC maintance page–click the correct channel–click start–remove mouse –insert USB disk–wait for camera upgrade successfully

5. go to system setup–channel setup–encode setup–find correct channel–change resolution from 2304*1296 to 1920*1080.

How to Change the Display Position of Channel

There are 2 ways to changed the position of camera

1)Generally speaking, we will choose four channels to display at the same time on the screen

For convenience, let’s first choose to have all channels displayed on the screen.

right click your mouse — Split Screen — X8 View

Now we want to let the Channel 7 to the Channel 2 position

left click the mouse on the channel 7 screen and dont loose

then move to the channel 2 position ,loose the mouse left key

that is OK

2)Please wrote down the IP address of the camera (which you want to exchange it channel,such as channel 5). Then deleted the channel which you want that camera to place(such as channel 2), did a manual edit on channel 2 ,Enable it and change or add the IP address of channel 5 wrote down. Camera immediately came up on channel 2.

App wrong Password

1)If you doesn’t change the User Name and the Password on NVR box.

The User name is ‘admin’, no password (you needn’t input anything)

2)For change the password on NVR box.

Right click the mouse>system setup> system admin>User>set password

3)User name and password should not exceed 8 characters and should not contain such as &*! @ (… #% and other special characters (you can setup password: jasmi985/ jasmi996/ jasmi856 or others. )

If you can login NVR with a password, but can’t login on App, please confirm that the password within 8 characters

Note：App login username and password are different from the camera login username and password. They are two different sets of username and password system.

How to set up Email notification?

a. Enable POP/IMAP in your email. If default setting of your E-mail enables that, please skip this step.

We also need to Allow 2-Step Verification for your Gmail account, login www.google.com

Open your Google Account.
Select Security.
Under “Signing in to Google,” select 2-Step Verification and then Get started.
Follow the on-screen steps.
Normally after you set 2-step verification, you will create a new password on NVR password page you need input this password

b. Go to your system main menu. System setting- Channel setting- Video Detection. Enable E-mail Notification and click Copy to apply the same setting to other channels.

b. Go to your system main menu. System setting- Network setting- Email setting. You will see the interface shown below.

c. Follow the instruction below to input the information required to finish the setting.

Email Notificaion: Check “Enable”

SMPT Provider: Click the one you use in the selection. Or click USER CUSTOMIZE to use the E-mail server that is not in the selection.

Sender : Type in your sender email address

Password: the password of login your sender emial address

SMTP service: when you choose the correct SMTP provider, it will suggest correct service to you

Port: The default port is 25. If it doesn’t work, you can go to the link below to get the port of the e-mail you use.

Encryption Type: Select the one that your E-mail server works. If there is no selection, please choose None.

Sendee 1: the email you want to receive email alerts

Sendee 2: the second email you want to receive email alerts, you can leave it blank

d. Then click Test see if you can receive a test e-mail alerts from Esee. If yes, that means the setting has set successfully. Then, please click Apply to save the setting.

e. Latest APP allow to set email notification on the cellphone directly

Go to cellphoen app Eseecloud, click me–settings–mail to receive alert messages–enable it, then put your gmail address, to get verfication code, after you input verfication code click confirm, then you will get the email notification, thanks

How to setup Record Plan?

You can set up three modes of record plan

Note：After you have set up the record plan, you need to click “copy to” to apply the record plan to all channels.

1) Time Recording:

Setup period of time of recording on NVR,Right Click the mouse>System Setup>Record Setup>Record Plan.

Click Time and put mouse icon on the upper left corner(for example 1 as picture shows).press and drag the mouse to the right to choose the time.the list will turn to red.

2) Motion Recording:

Only detect motion and then start recording. Right click mouse>System Setup>Record Setup>Record Plan.

Click Motion and putr mouse icon on the upper left corner, press and drag the mouse to the right to choose the time. The list will turn to green.

3) Alarm Recording:

Riht click the mouse>System setup>Record Setup>Record Plan.

Click Alarm and put mouse icon on the upper left corner,Press and drag the mouse to the choose the time,The list will turn to yellow.

Note: Users can Setup any period of time they want, for example 0:00:00-23:59:59, That’s 24hrs*7days recording. When NVR detects hard disk, the default setting will be 24hrs*7days recording.

The priority of Alarm is higher than that of Motion, and the priority of Motion is higher than that of Time.

When you have set the corresponding record mode, you can click “select all”, and the time area below will become the corresponding color

Video Playback

Right clik the mouse>Video Playback>Choose date、Channel、record mode>Click Search>then can view playback file

Note：You can only watch four Channels recording at the same time.

How to backup the recording

There are 2 ways to make backup

1) use USB disk to backup

1. right click your mouse, and choose video backup.

2. choose the channel/date/time playback you need backup,

(If you copy too much backup, we suggest you copy it one by one channel to save copy time)

3.Backup, the let your mouse out and within 30 seconds put the USB to get the backup

1. Connect the recorder to the same LAN as the computer ：connect to the router

How to Setup Your Uniview Security System

In this guide, we will go through all the steps related to setting up your newly acquired Uniview Security System.

Overview:

Access the NVR via a dedicated display.
Log in using the default credentials found on the product manual and update the password.
Install and pair the EZView app for mobile access anytime, anywhere.
Check the timezone and the device clocks for accurate alerts and scheduling.
Access the NVR via a browser from another device. Use EZTools to get the IP address.
Enable and configure NVR/camera features, alerts, and etc.

Setting up using Direct NVR Access

The NVR interface can be accessed directly by simply connecting the NVR to a display (this can be done with an HDMI or older VGA cable) and to a mouse. Once the display and the mouse is connected and the login screen is displayed, proceed to login. Since this is the first time, we will be using the default username and password (at the time of writing default login and password are admin and 123456) found on the manual that came with the NVR.

After logging in, Uniview’s privacy policy will be shown for you to review. Once you have reviewed and accepted, you will immediately gain access to the NVR and cameras connected to it. But, since it is the first time we are logged in and we are still using the default credentials, we will be prompted to change the login information. You will be using the new password for all your future access with the NVR.

Once the password has been changed, a pattern lock will also be prompted (this is optional and can be skipped). After doing so, the Privacy Policy will be displayed for the user to review. The screen that follows the Privacy Policy will let us connect our mobile devices to the NVR. This will grant access to Live View, alerts, and other configurations we may want.

The device QR code will be presented here. Allowing you access to the EZCloud feature. Devices can be added to the cloud manually but it is far easier to just use a link given from the QR code. If you want to pair the NVR with the EZView app, click here to read more about it.

The next step is to set or synchronize the time. This step will ensure that all scheduling configurations you will set and all alerts and alarm information will be accurate and will work based on your local time.

After this, you will be prompted to check the TCP/IP settings, the default settings will work for most people. If you need to specify networking (usually when DHCP is not enabled on other devices on the network), please do so here. You will still be able to alter this later.

Once the time and the password have been configured, you are now ready to enable and disable the features of the NVR.

To access the menu, you can right-click on any part of the screen and then click on Menu. It can also be accessed along with other options by moving your cursor to the bottom left of the screen. This will take you to the SETUP screen where you can enable and customise alerts, features, and other options available to you.

Setting up using Remote Browser Interface

You can also access the NVR interface through the use of a browser on a device connected to the same network as the NVR. To do this, you will need the IP address of the NVR you wish to login to, and then enter it into the address bar in the browser. The easiest way to find the NVR’s IP address is by checking the “Network” settings tab, followed by the “Basic” tab, then the “TCP/IP” tab. You’ll need the IPv4 Address. In our case its 10.1.1.214 but it will likely be different for you.

Another way to find the IP address of your NVR is with Uniview’s EZTools which can be downloaded here. Once installed on your computer, running the EZtools will automatically show you all connected Uniview devices. The IP address can also be obtained by logging into your router and checking connected devices, using the command prompt (arp -a command and checking for new devices on the private network).

Note: Any browser should work to alter configurations, however using Internet Explorer will be the easiest to access the Live view. (Due to some newer browsers not supporting certain plugins).

From here, we can see the IP address given by our router to the NVR. 192.168.254.192. It will likely be different for you. Clicking on the Remote Web button will open your default browser and take you to the NVR interface.

You can then proceed to login to your Uniview NVR Interface. Since this is the first time, we will be using the default username and password found on the manual that came with the NVR. After logging in, Uniview’s privacy policy will be shown for you to review. Once you have reviewed and accepted, you will immediately gain access to the NVR and cameras connected to it. But, since it is the first time we are logged in and we are still using the default credentials, we will be prompted to change the login information. You will be using the new password for all your future access with the NVR.

Once the password has been updated, you will be greeted by the Live View display. Clicking on any of the cameras found on the left will show you live footage from it. In this case, a single IP camera is connected to the 4-Channel NVR.

From here, you can now click on SETUP to access all configurations and features and set them up to your preference.

Before we end, we should connect the Uniview NVR to the EZView app for easy and convenient access. To do this, we will need the QR code of the device we want to add to an EZView account.

Navigate to Setup>Network>EZCloud

The device QR code will be presented here. Make sure that the EZCloud feature is enabled and that the device has access to the internet. Click here to read more about it.

EZView App Installation and Device Integration

With the QR code visible, we will need to install the official Uniview app from the playstore. To get EZView you can download and install it here for Android devices and here for iOS.

Once installed, the EZView app will need permissions to access your device storage to save and view the Live View and playback.

Once granted, the Service Agreement and the Privacy Policy will be presented for the user to review.

After this, you can proceed to create your own EZView account or login if you have an existing one. This is a separate account from the one specified in the NVR. You can choose a different or similar email. The email registered here will be designated as your account for EZView. The email registered on the NVR upon changing the password is for recovery purposes. You will be able to pair multiple devices to the same EZView account and gain live access to all of them.

Once logged in, you will then be taken to the Live View. This screen will not show any cameras at first as we still have not paired any NVR or camera to the EZView account. To add your NVR and cameras, click on the top right Devices icon.

This will take you to a list of all the devices on your account. Since we don’t have one yet, it will either be blank or sometimes, a demo device will be shown. Click on the Add Device (+) button on the top right to add your device.

Ensure that the NVR is connected to the Internet, then choose SCAN for a quick and easy way to pair your smartphone to your NVR.

You can then proceed to scan the QR code found on your NVR or on the display screen where we left off. Once scanned, you may now proceed to configure the device name and other options for your preference.

In this particular situation, I added a Uniview 4-Channel NVR. It is now shown on my devices list along with all the cameras connected to it. I named this NVR as 4CH-NVR. As you can see, the IP Camera attached to this NVR is now available for Live View.

Select the camera by checking the circle and tapping on the Start Live View at the bottom will take me back to the Live View. You will be able to select multiple video feeds from different devices on this screen.

Tapping on the top left icon will allow you to check other features and settings available to you, including alarm notifications and alerts, Playback, recording schedules as well as downloaded snippets of video and screenshots.

Remote Access – Basic Troubleshooting

If you’re having trouble with setting up your Swann unit for remote viewing, or the remote viewing was working but has since stopped, here are some simple steps for you to try.

1) Reboot the recorder or camera

Rebooting the device both clears the memory and sets up the basic network parameters of the recorder or camera again. This can help if the router has “lost” the device from the routing table or if the device requires a new local IP address.

2) Reboot the modem and/or network connection devices

There may be an issue with your modem or network connection that is preventing the Swann unit from contacting the internet correctly. Rebooting these devices can correct these issues.

3) Reconnect the network cable and/or try a different one

For some Swann units such as recorders, the network (Ethernet) cable connects your device to your internet connection devices such as a modem or a router. Sometimes the contacts may become loose requiring you to replug the cable for the recorder to start working again. We suggest testing the cable on a different LAN port, located behind your modem/router. If this also fails, then your cable may be defective and may need to be replaced. If you have a spare network cable lying around, try switching the cable to see if it helps.

4) Reset the recorder or camera

For recorders – While this step is rather drastic, it can also be of use where the recorder’s settings have been misconfigured or if you have changed or reconfigured your network or internet hardware. This will clear all the settings from your recorder, including your network settings which could be causing the issue with your local/remote access from phone or computer.

If this step seems like a lot of work to recover from, do not forget to export the settings of your recorder to a USB stick before you proceed. That way, if the reset does not correct the issue, you can easily recover the settings lost. Also, if the reset did solve the issue, you can reapply the settings to see if that was what caused the issue. Check your recorder’s user manual for configuration export instructions.

For Wi-Fi cameras – if your camera has settings related to network, it might also be misconfigured or something has changed internally. Be aware that there is no exporting of settings here therefore, if you will reset your camera, you might re-do the first time setup.

This error message means that the username and/or password you entered on the app doesn’t match your recorder’s credentials.

To resolve this, you need to go to the recorder itself and try to log in – this is to ensure that you have the right username and password of your unit.

Once you have it, you may try to add the device again and carefully enter its credentials on the app. In summary, you need to:

Select Pair Device.
Scan its QR Code (either the sticker on top of your unit OR in Menu)
Enter the recorder’s credentials (case sensitive).

You may find this video useful but most importantly, you need to have your recorder’s username and password with you as this is needed when pairing your recorder.

Setup Cloud storage to OS 5 recorders

Swann’s OS 5 recorders now has the feature to save images or recordings through Cloud which might be more accessible to you without being on the unit itself. This can serve as another way to get notified when there’s a movement detected on one of your cameras.

Couple of things to prepare:

Make sure to have a Dropbox account ready. If you don’t have one, visit Dropbox and register first.
Then make sure your recorder is connected to the internet. Not having this will obviously not send the recordings on the Cloud or even give you access online.

Setup

On Swann Security app, go to Menu > Dropbox.
Choose your recorder that you want to setup.
It will open Dropbox app or Dropbox website will open (depends on what you have) – make sure you are logged in to the Dropbox account where pictures or videos will be saved.
Allow – choose this to allow Swann Security to gain access on Dropbox.
COMPLETE! – it will go back to the Swann Security app once you chose Allow. Tap again the recorder and this message (image at the right) should appear.

In case it repeats step 3, just cancel it or go back, then you’ll see this message (image at the right).

Enable Cloud Notification

Go to Menu > Alarm > Detection
Click on Action
Enable Picture to Cloud or Video to Cloud on selected Channels.

…and you’re DONE! Now every time the recorder detects movement, it will then send it to your Dropbox.

Be aware of the following:

Default Dropbox storage has limited storage space

Not all channels can be selected to upload video

Uploads to Dropbox consume upload data, be aware of potential additional charges when using an internet connection with caps/data usage charges

Consider using the Overwrite option to select a timeframe that the Cloud storage uses, to keep the storage from filling up. Note that if the storage fills up before the Overwrite deadline, that it will operate the same as Auto

Be aware that a desktop PC with the Dropbox software installed may download any recordings to the Dropbox folder on that PC

Password Reset for SwannBuzz Account

This article will guide you on how can you reset the password of your SwannBuzz account.

	Open SwannBuzz then tap Forgot Password? below the Password field.
	Enter your registered email address then tap Get New Password.
	Now check your email (even your Spam or Junk folder) to get the temporary password. In the app, tap Return to Sign in
	Get the new password. Go back to SwannBuzz app then log in using your email and new password.
	Once logged in, it will ask you to set a new password. Enter it on both text fields. Tap OK and that will now be your new password.

NOTE: If you didn’t receive an email and you are using a private email similar to .gov or .edu emails, please contact your IT or the domain.

OutbackCam: Why detection angle different to viewing angle

The OutbackCam utilizes a passive infrared motion sensor so that the system is able to run in a stand-by mode. This means the battery life of the system is extended from what would otherwise be hours, into weeks and/or months. When activity is detected by the motion sensor, the camera component that was previously switched off is now activated and takes one or more snapshots. Due to the time difference between when motion is detected and when the camera is able to take its first photo, we have extended the detection angle so that an object moving through the shot will be captured despite the activation delay.

Having said that, passive infrared motion detection is not a flawless technology. You will get times where the sensor detects motion when there is none. When passive infrared motion detectors are used outdoors, there is a higher likelihood of false alarms due to a large number of varying environmental variables such as temperature, wind speed, time of day and lighting conditions.

If you believe this renders the system unusable, you could try using race tape (a.k.a. gaffer tape) to tape either side of the white passive infrared sensor until you have an acceptable detection angle.

How to get the MAC address of a recorder using an Android device?

If you forgot your password but needs to login to your recorder, you most probably need the MAC address of the recorder to enter. We have couple of articles to help you with that HERE but all of those require a computer.

This article will help you get the MAC address of your unit by the use of an Android device and a 3rd party app called Fing.

Once the app is installed, here are some requirements:

You must be at the location where the unit is.
The Android device must be connected to the same router where the recorder is connected.
You must have a monitor and mouse connected to the recorder to input the MAC address later.

Now, open Fing then tap on the Refresh button at the top.

If it asks for permission, select Enable Location Permission.

After that, you will see a list of devices detected on your network. Look for a Device that has Swann or with MAC address that starts with BC:51:FE or EC:71:DB.

How to enable push notification of Swann apps in iOS?

Upon installation or while using the app, it will ask for some permissions to be allowed.

Check the instruction below if you chose Don’t Allow on the initial setup:

Phone Settings

Go to Settings on your phone and select Swann Security.
Enable Notification and Location – as for Location, choosing either Always or While using the app works fine.

App Settings

This applies to Swann Security only; go to the Menu then select Notification. Make sure it is enabled.

How to change the position of the Date and Time display bar on my DVR

You can adjust the position of the OSD from the menu display of the DVR. It has to be done directly from the DVR, using the monitor that is connected either to its VGA or HDMI output.

You simply open the menu of the DVR, go in the menu display, and then, from the camera tab, click on SET next to the OSD Display Position.

Afterward, with the mouse connected to the DVR, left click on the date and time display , hold down the button and drag the display wherever you wish .

The position chosen for the Date and Time Display will be reflected on the live view on your computer screen, should you access the DVR through the Network Interface ( and also on the recorded videos if you have enabled record date from the Display menu of the DVR ).

How do I improve my remote viewing performance?

If you’re experiencing any intermittent connectivity issues when streaming or playing back videos from your recorder, on either the computer software or phone app, then the problem may be related to a limitation with your internet connection speed.

It is important to consider the amount of bandwidth needed when viewing your cameras remotely.
Increasing the video quality of the stream also increases the amount of data needed to upload the video onto your phone or computer.

You can use this article to help you check your speed before continuing to adjust your settings.

The diagram below summarizes the data transfer process of when a video is being uploaded to the server and then downloaded onto the user’s phone.

The recorded video is encrypted and uploaded onto the server (internet)
The file is then downloaded onto the computer or phone.

This is why the download and upload rate is important when streaming videos from a remote location. The higher the quality of the recordings, the more data is needed to be upload onto the server.

There are a couple of things you can change on the recorder to help improve the streaming service.

Reduce the streaming quality, on the phone.
Reduce the sub-stream resolution and bitrate, on the recorder.

Stream on Fluent

This step is necessary for us to use lower bandwidth when streaming the cameras.

You may want to keep in mind that the quality will be lower than expected to lessen intermittent connections and get a smoother experience when viewing the cameras.

These are the things you can do using the software or app.

If you are accessing the recorder using SwannView Link software, click the Play button at the right and choose All channels fluent.
If you are using SwannView Link app, tap Stream and choose Fluent.
If you are accessing the recorder using SwannView Plus software, right-click on the recorder at the left side and choose Set Sub-Stream To All.
If you are accessing the recorder using HomeSafe View software, right click on your recorder at the left, and choose Set Sub Stream to All.
If you are accessing the recorder using HomeSafe View app, tap on the Stream icon and choose Substream.

Changing substream resolution and bitrate

If the previous steps didn’t help, here is another thing we can do and that is changing the resolution and lowering the substream bitrate. Once again, you will see difference in quality after doing this step.

For SwannView Link users

Go to your NVR and access the Menu.
Proceed to RECORDING > Encode.
Change the Encoding Parameters to Substream for us to deal with just Substream settings.
Change the resolution to CIF.
Set the bitrate to the 128kbps.
Click Copy To and select all channels to copy the settings.
Click on Apply to save the settings.

For SwannView Plus users

Go to your NVR and access the Menu.
Proceed to RECORD > Parameters > Substream for us to deal with just Substream settings.
Change the resolution to CIF.
Set the Video Quality to the 128kbps.
Click on Apply to save the settings.
Click Copy To and select all channels to copy the settings.
Click on Apply to save the settings.

For HomeSafe View users

Go to your NVR and access the Menu.
Proceed to RECORD > Substream for us to deal with just Substream settings. Be sure the Channel selected is CH1.
Change the resolution to 352×240 or 352×288.
Set the Video Quality to the 128kbps.
On the Copy section below, first selection should be CH1 and second selection should be All. Click Copy to copy the settings to all channels.
Click on Save to save the settings.
Repeat the steps 1 to 6 but on step 2, proceed to RECORD > MobileStream.

The idea of this procedure is to set each camera to use 128kbps when streaming on substream or fluent.
This also means that if you have:

2x cameras – recommended upload speed of your internet connection is 256kbps
4x cameras – recommended upload speed of your internet connection is 512kbps
8x cameras – recommended upload speed of your internet connection is 1Mbps

General Port Forwarding Guide

The first step to port forwarding is to determine which ports you need to open. You should able to tell by reading the documentation that applies to your Swann product, or by simply having a look through the network configuration menu of your Swann system.

Our systems will use, by default, one or more of the following ports:

80
85
554
8000
9000
18004

The next step is to open those ports. In order to have a port forwarding setup that will keep working, it is important to ensure that the IP address of the DVR inside your Network will remain fixed so that the port forwarding rules are not invalidated.

You can either set a static IP address (Static LAN IP) on the DVR instead of relying on the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) of your router or, if your router permits it, you can reserve a LAN-IP address for the DVR through the settings of your router. Some routers call it a Static IP allocation, some call it an IP reservation.

If you know how to set up a Static IP address on your recorder or if you have already successfully done so, please go ahead directly to the port forwarding step.

A simple way to set up a Static IP address on the recorder is to look at the network information that your router has given to the recorder and then modify it slightly. You will find that in the network configuration menu of your recorder.

1) Take note of the IP address (IPv4) of the DVR when it is on DHCP mode.
2) Take note of the Gateway address (this is the address of your router on the network).

You will notice that there are 4 sets of up to 3 digits per address, separated by 3 dots.
The 3 first sets of digits for the IP address (IPv4) and the gateway are the same. Only the last set of digits is different. It is important that it remains so.

When you choose your Static IP for the DVR, keep the same 3 first sets of digits the same as they were when on DHCP mode. Then choose a number between 200 and 254 for the last set of digits of the IP address. This should in most circumstances ensure that you are not going to create an IP conflict later since it will almost certainly be outside the DHCP pool that the router uses when it automatically assigns addresses to other devices connected to your network.

Keep the Gateway address the same as it was when on DHCP mode. This is basically the address of your router, and we need to preserve this if you want to connect to the DVR from outside the network.

Keep the Subnet Mask exactly as it was on DHCP as well.

The preferred DNS (DNS1 or primary DNS) should be the same as the gateway address.
We normally suggest to set the alternate DNS (DNS2) as 8.8.8.8 (008.008.008.008).
This is a DNS server provided by Google as a free public DNS. This will ensure that your DVR can communicate with the Internet Addresses optimally.

Port Forwarding:

Now that the DVR has a LAN IP that is configured to remain constant, it is time to access the router and to set forwarding rules on it. The ports will be forwarded to the LAN IP address of the DVR.

You should already have the address to access your router through your browser. It is basically the gateway address that you have found on the DVR.

Type that address in the address bar of your Browser and this should bring the login page of your router.
You should know the credentials to access your own router. If you do not, it is possible that it is recorded on a label on the router. If you cannot find your router credentials, contact your router supplier.

All routers are different, so it’s near impossible to include in one single guide how port forwarding is done on thousands of different routers. You should refer to the documentation that came with your router for the exact method for port forwarding on your particular router.

If you are unable to find the instructions for your router, or you are unable to configure the ports, please contact your router supplier for more information.

After having applied the port forwarding rules on your router, you should check that the ports have been correctly opened.

To see if your ports are already open, we advise you to visit a website such as www.canyouseeme.org from a computer that is connected to the same network as your recorder.

You can use the port checker tool of that site to check whether or not your ports are open.
The IP address displayed on this website is the one provided to your router by your Internet Service Provider (WAN IP).

Upon clicking test port, it will either say ‘success’ or will inform you that the tested port is not yet accessible.

If your ports are already open, you can skip a bit of text and go straight to the remote access section.

If the ports are still closed, keep in mind that many routers need to be restarted before new settings start working. Many router have a restart or reboot button in their maintenance or system page. If you cannot find it you can switch it off and switch it back on . Most routers have a on/off switch. If yours do, it is best to use it. Otherwise, you might want to resort to unplugging its power cord and then reconnecting it a few seconds later.

Give it a few minutes to restart and then test once more whether the ports are opened.

If the ports are still closed, then you may have a complex network configuration, and you will need to contact your router supplier for support.

Remote Access:

Once all the ports are open, you should already be able to access the DVR remotely .
However, keep in mind that many Internet Providers give their customer a Dynamic IP address.
This means that your IP address might sometime change , sometimes sooner than later.

If your Public IP is a dynamic IP or If you are unsure whether your Public IP is static or dynamic, we advise to set up a DDNS address first. Go straight to the DDNS setup section.

If your know that your Public IP address is Static (you may want to call your ISP to verify) then you are ready to access the System remotely.

Computer access with a browser:

If your Swann Product has a Web port or a HTTP port, you should be able to access it remotely through your Web Browser with an address in the following format:

http://PublicIP:webportnumber

The Public IP is the IP address given to your Internet Connection by your Internet Service Provider.
You can see that address on that status page of your Router or you can also see it from sites such as www.canyouseeme.org or www.whatismyip.com if you access the site from a computer connected to the same router as the Swann recorder.

For example, if the http port number is 85 and the Public IP is 99.99.99.99, you could access your system through a browser with that address: http://99.99.99.99:85

(Note that Internet Explorer may be the only browser supported depending on the product that you have)

Computer Access with the software:

To access the Swann Product with the computer software that would have come with your product (if there was any), you will typically need to use the server port which more often than anything will either be 8000 or 9000.

For example, if the server port is 9000, you would put the following in the login screen of the software:

Address: 99.99.99.99
Port: 9000
user: admin (by default)
password : the admin password of the recorder

Computer Access with a smartphone app:

Most of our Swann systems have mobile access capability. Some of the older models are not equipped with this feature, or support phones that are no longer current.

First you must ensure that your Swann system supports mobile access and if so, which app you need to use.
You also need to know what port you will need to use.

See from the documentation whether you need to use the server port or a special mobile port such as 18004 on some systems.

Typically the port to use for mobile access is either 8000 or 9000.
Only on rare instance would you be able to use a web port to access the Swann device with a mobile app.

You will typically enter the following information in the device setting page of the app.

Device Name : choose_any_name_you_like
Address/ Host /Server: Address: 99.99.99.99
Port: 9000
user: admin (by default)
password : the admin password of the recorder
Channels: number of channels on your recorder (this is sometimes not entered, but automatic after saving the information)

DDNS Setup

If the IP is to change and you then do not know what new IP address the Network Infrastructure of your ISP has assigned your Internet connection, then you will then be unable to access your system remotely until you find out what new address you have. Again, you could find the new address from websites such as www.canyouseeme.org or www.whatismyip.com but this is not best way to go . If you have a Dynamic IP address, we recommend you to set up a DDNS Domain Name. Both the Domain Name and the Public IP address are considered to be an Internet address. While the principles of DDNS are quite complex, one can make use of it quite easily. It is hardly more complex than browsing the World Wide Web from your personal computer everyday.

You can make it so your Public IP address has a domain name linked to it. The DDNS services provided by www.dyn.com are easy to use, inexpensive and are widely supported by a number of routers. Please visit their site for more information on setting up a DDNS account.

How to access the System Remotely with a DDNS address :

Computer access with a browser:

(Internet Explorer may be the only browser supported depending on which product you have.)
