What is Lorex Fusion?

Our Lorex Fusion recorders incorporate the newest (fusion) technology to connect both Lorex Wired and Fusion Wi-Fi Cameras, Doorbells, Floodlights, and Sensors to one system. Lorex Fusion Wi-Fi Cameras and Accessories can connect to one recorder for continuous 24/7 recording and local, secure storage (up to 10TB). Everything can be accessed from your Lorex App for easy control of all devices.

Why do I get an offline message and a blank screen for the (B463AJ) 2K battery doorbell’s channel on the Fusion recorder?

Being a battery-operated doorbell, it will always go to sleep after a period of inactivity to conserve battery life. Once the doorbell is correctly paired to your Fusion recorder, the offline message means the doorbell has gone to sleep but is still connected and can be awakened. When motion is detected, or when the call button is pressed, there will be live video from that channel. You can also manually wake up the doorbell through the Lorex app, by activating the liveview.

Can my Battery Video Doorbell record continuously?

To conserve battery life, Wi-Fi Battery Video Doorbells only record when motion is detected. They do not record continuously.

What is a Fusion Wi-Fi channel?

A Fusion Wi-Fi channel is the channel you use to add a single Fusion Wi-Fi camera to your system. A 16-channel security system with 8 PoE ports/channels (for wired camera connection) and 8 Fusion Wi-Fi channels means that 8 Fusion Wi-Fi cameras and accessories can connect to the entire system.

What is continuous recording?

Once your Lorex Fusion Wi-Fi camera connects to your Fusion recorder, your camera’s recording settings are automatically set to continuous. This means that your Fusion Wi-Fi camera will record 24/7 or for the entire duration of the recording schedule onto your Fusion recorder’s hard drive. It is worth noting that recordings on the camera are limited due to the size of its onboard storage, while recordings on the recorder are extensive (3TB to 10TB). Continuous recording captures everything in the background, and you can playback to catch anything you missed.

Do all Lorex Fusion Wi-Fi cameras record continuously?

No, to conserve battery life, battery-operated video doorbells do not record continuously (24/7).

How do I set my Lorex Fusion Wi-Fi camera to continuous recording?

Your Lorex Fusion Wi-Fi camera saves recorded motion detection videos onto the local microSD card (not always included). Once you’ve connected your Fusion Wi-Fi camera to your Fusion recorder, your camera’s recording settings is automatically set to 24/7 Continuous recording, and all recorded video is stored on your recorder’s extensive hard drive (up to 10TB).

Lorex Fusion: Troubleshooting

The following article provides some troubleshooting tips for setting up your Lorex Fusion Collection.

My Fusion Wi-Fi camera or accessory is not appearing in the device list.

.

My Fusion Wi-Fi camera or accessory is not connecting to my Fusion recorder.

• Give your Fusion Wi-Fi camera or accessory a few minutes to establish a connection.

• Check to see if your Fusion recorder has the most up-to-date firmware. New Local UI: Login to your recorder and navigate to System > Update & Reset > Upgrade, then click Check for Updates.  Previous Local UI: Login to your recorder and navigate to Main Menu > Information > Update/Reset > Update, then click Check for Updates. For instructions on updating your recorder’s firmware through USB, see the article How to manually upgrade the firmware of your recorder.

• Ensure that your Fusion Wi-Fi cameras and accessories and your Fusion recorder are powered on.

• The same password created for your Fusion Wi-Fi camera or accessory in the Lorex App must be entered in your Fusion recorder. If you have forgotten the password, then reset your Fusion Wi-Fi camera or accessory and connect it to the app again.

• (Applies to the previous local UI only) If your password for your Fusion Wi-Fi camera or accessory is entered incorrectly in your Fusion recorder, then your Wi-Fi device will lock itself. Reset your Fusion Wi-Fi camera or accessory and connect it to the app again.

• Ensure that you are entering the password for your Fusion Wi-Fi camera or accessory created in the Lorex App, and not the Lorex App account password. Those are two separate passwords.

• Ensure that your Fusion Wi-Fi camera or accessory is connected to a dual-band router (2.4 GHz/5 GHz bands).

• Ensure that you are connecting the Fusion Wi-Fi camera or accessory to an available Fusion Wi-Fi channel, and not a Wi-Fi channel that already has a Wi-Fi device connected to it.

I don’t know the password for my Fusion Wi-Fi camera or accessory.

If you don’t know the password for your Fusion Wi-Fi camera or accessory, then you will need to reset the device and connect it to the Lorex App again.

Turn off duplicate notifications

After Fusion setup, your Lorex Fusion Wi-Fi camera’s recording settings will automatically adjust to Continuous, recording 24/7 directly to your recorder’s hard disk drive.

To adjust the recording settings (new local UI):

To adjust the recording settings using the previous local UI, navigate to Main Menu > CAMERA > Recording > Recording and follow the same steps as above.

Set the recording schedule for your Fusion Wi-Fi camera or accessory

You can set a custom recording schedule according to your needs. For example, you can set the system to record continuously during business hours and record on motion detection only outside of business hours.

• Click-and-drag on each day to customize the recording schedule. The schedule is set up as a grid, with each block representing two hours.

• Click  beside 2 or more days to link schedules (). This allows you to quickly change multiple schedules at once.

• To make fine adjustments to a schedule, click . This will allow you to set exact start and end times for a schedule.

• To disable all recording of the selected type on the selected day, click .

To set the recording schedule using the previous local UI, navigate to Main Menu > STORAGE > Schedule and follow the same steps as above.

Link sensors to cameras

Once you’ve completed the Fusion setup, you can link motion and door/window sensors to any compatible camera, so that when the sensors are triggered the linked automatically cameras record.

ATTENTION: Prior to purchasing and installing an accessory antenna, read the product specifications of your receiver to determine if your receiver has a weatherproof housing. Installing your weatherproof receiver outdoors provides a better line-of-sight between the receiver and the camera, increasing the strength of the wireless signal. See your product specifications to determine the weatherproof rating of your receiver.

The Directional Wireless Panel Antenna and the Omni-Directional Antenna are used to extend the range of one or multiple wireless or wire-free cameras.

Directional Wireless Panel Antenna (ACCANTD9)

Omni-Directional Antenna (ACCANTO8)

Use the 2.4GHz Directional Wireless Panel Antenna (ACCANTD9) to focus a wireless signal onto one specific wireless device (camera or receiver) to increase the range of transmission. A clear line-of-sight between the antenna and the wireless device needing range extension is required.

Use the 2.4GHz Omni-Directional Antenna (ACCANTO8) to enhance the signal of one or multiple cameras that are paired to a single or dual antenna receiver. You may also use two Omni-Directional Antennas to extend the range of all cameras paired to a dual antenna receiver.

REQUIREMENT: To connect the antenna directly to the camera or receiver, the device must have a removable SMA type antenna. Visit www.lorextechnology.com/compatibility to ensure the antenna is compatible with your camera or receiver model.

Recommended Antenna Installation Methods

Your antenna needs will vary depending on the setup of your camera system, the number of cameras that require range extension, and the number of channels on your wireless receiver. Review the scenarios below to ensure you have the correct antenna and installation method to meet your needs.

Combining Accessory Antennas

If you have installed your accessory antenna according to the recommended installation methods and would like to enhance wireless signal strength even further, you may add an additional Directional Wireless Panel Antenna (ACCANTD9) directly to a camera. The additional Directional Wireless Panel Antenna can be used with a Directional Wireless Panel Antenna or with an Omni-Directional Antenna attached to the receiver.

Scenario 1: Extend the range of one camera paired to a single antenna receiver

To extend the range of one camera connected to a single channel receiver, use the Directional Wireless Panel Antenna (ACCANTD9).

The Directional Wireless Panel Antenna can be connected in two configurations.

Configuration 1. Connect the antenna directly to the camera

Configuration 2. Connect the antenna directly to the wireless receiver

REQUIREMENT: The antenna connects using an SMA cable and replaces the existing antenna on either the camera or wireless receiver. Check www.lorextechnology.com/compatibility to determine if your product is compatible with the antennas.

Scenario 2: Extend the range of one camera paired to a dual antenna receiver

To extend the range of one camera connected to a multi-channel receiver, use the Directional Wireless Panel Antenna (ACCANTD9). Connect the Directional Wireless Panel Antenna directly to the camera.

Scenario 3: Extend the range of select cameras paired to a dual antenna receiver

To extend the range of select cameras on a multi-channel receiver, use the Omni-Directional Antenna (ACCANTO8).

Connect the Omni-Directional Antenna to one of the antenna ports on the wireless receiver.

REMINDER: Each antenna port on a dual antenna receiver is associated with specific camera channels. One antenna communicates with odd numbered channels (1, 3, and 5), while the other antenna communicates with even numbered channels (2, 4, and 6). See the table below for dual antenna channel configurations.

If you connect the Omni-Directional Antenna to an antenna port and your wireless signal does not improve, try switching the Omni-Directional Antenna to the other antenna port or pairing your camera to a different camera channel.

Scenario 4: Extend the range of all cameras paired to a dual antenna receiver

To extend the range of all cameras on a dual antenna receiver, connect an Omni-Directional Antenna (ACCANTO8) to each antenna port on the receiver.

IMPORTANT: Two Omni-Directional Antennas are required to accommodate this setup.

Combination 1: Combine two Directional Wireless Panel Antennas

If you are using a Directional Wireless Panel Antenna (ACCANTD9) to enhance the signal of a single camera with a single channel receiver, you can use an additional Directional Wireless Panel Antenna to further enhance the wireless signal.

Connect one Directional Wireless Panel Antenna directly to the camera and one Directional Wireless Panel Antenna directly to the wireless receiver. To maximize signal strength, it is recommended to aim the two antennas directly at each other with a clear line-of-sight.

Combination 2: Combine a Directional Wireless Panel Antenna with an Omni-Directional Antenna

If you are using an Omni-Directional Antenna (ACCANTO8) to enhance the signal of multiple cameras, you can further enhance the signal of a specific camera by connecting a Directional Wireless Panel Antenna (ACCANTD9) directly to the camera.

A clear line-of-sight between the Directional Wireless Panel Antenna and the Omni-Directional Antenna is recommended to maximize signal strength.

Lorex SD Pro App: Changing / resetting the password

If the password for the Lorex SD Pro app to view the Wireless Home Monitor is lost or forgotten it will need to be reset.

To reset the Lorex SD Pro app password:

1.Ensure that your Wireless Home Monitor is connected to a network router using the included Ethernet cable.

2.On the Wireless Home Monitor tap the Menu icon ().

3.Use the joystick to select Settings > Network > Reset Password.

4.Select Yes to confirm.

5.Tap the Menu icon () repeatedly until all the menus are closed.

6.Launch the SD Pro app and enter the default password. Refer to your user manual for your default password. You will be prompted to create a new password.

Lorex SD Pro App: Setting up Wireless Home Monitor remote access

You can access and view wireless cameras from a Wireless Home Monitor system using an iPhone, iPad, or Android smartphone or tablet using the Lorex SD Pro app. It is available at the App Store or Google Play Store.

LW2700 Wireless Home Monitor: Included cables and accessories

LW2700 Series Wireless Home Monitors support wireless cameras using a wireless signal. They do not have an internal battery and require a connection to a power source. Network: Wireless camera Internet requirements

Standard wireless cameras that connect to a DVR / NVR, do not need access to the Internet to function. Stand-alone IP cameras do not require an Internet connection for basic functions, but an Internet connection is required for full functionality.

Security Cameras: Understanding Field of View (FOV)

Field of View (FOV) is the maximum observable area that is seen at any given moment through an optical device such as a camera lens. The coverage of the area can be measured using the horizontal and vertical distances to find the diagonal of the area in degrees. Mathematically, the FOV is calculated using the horizontal dimension of the sensor (h) and the Focal Length (F).

The Camera Lens, Sensor and Focal Length

Focal length (F) is the distance between the center of a lens and its sensor. The size of the lens is the aperture size.

These factors affect field of view. A narrower focal length captures more of the scene and displays a larger field of view. A wider focal length magnifies a scene and decreases the field of view. The higher the focal length value the lower the FOV.

Types of Camera Lenses

Fixed: a fixed camera focal length provides an Angular FOV which is permanently set and cannot be adjusted by the user. Varifocal: the camera focal length can be manually adjusted by the user. Generally, this is done manually with screws or dials. At Lorex we have motorized varifocal cameras that allow you to digitally zoom using your phone or NVR without losing details. These lenses provide flexibility and customization for your camera image needs.

The importance of Field of View

A wide angle lens or smaller lenses produce a greater field of view and captures more objects in a scene enhancing your ability to cover larger and wider areas such as foyers, parking lots or warehouses.

A narrow angle lens or larger lenses produce a smaller field of view; capturing a limited area, but the camera quality image improves in detail. These are designed to monitor a specific object, such as cash registers, entrances/exits, hallways or objects of value.

How to Calculate the FOV

To calculate the FOV requires the sensor size and the focal length of the lens: h = Sensor Size F = Focal Length of the Lens

FOV is represented by this equation: FOV = 2tan-1(h) / 2F

Example: h = 4.7mm F = 6mm FOV = 2tan-1(h) / 2F = 2tan-1(4.7)(12) = 2tan-1(0.39) = 2(21.4°) = 42.8°

 Accuracy of person detection will be influenced by multiple factors, such as the person’s distance from the camera, the height of the person, and the height and angle of the camera. Night vision will also impact the accuracy and distance of detection.

To view the contents of a MicroSD card on a laptop or computer, follow these steps:

Wireless Home Monitor: Audio not working

If the audio is not working on your Wireless Home Monitor:

• Ensure that the protective film is removed from the camera lens.

• Ensure that the monitor volume is not muted. A mute icon () will be visible on the screen if the volume has been muted.

• Turn the monitor volume up using the volume buttons on the side of the unit. Location will vary by model. For exact location of volume buttons for your model, refer to your user manual. Click here for downloads and documentation for your product.

• The camera must be in Full Screen mode for audio. Tap the Channel Select icon () to switch between channels in Full Screen mode. Audio is disabled in Quad mode.

If audio is not working after increasing the volume and viewing in Full Screen mode, restore the system to default settings.

To restore your monitor to default settings:

CAUTION: Restoring to default settings will erase any setting input on the monitor. Your monitor will need to be reconfigured.

1.On the monitor tap the Menu icon ().

2.Use the joystick to select Settings > Default Settings.

3.Select Yes.

Prerequisites:

• A fusion-enabled recorder.
• Compatible Wi-Fi camera(s), see all compatible cameras in the Fusion’s FAQs page.
• A router
• A monitor
• A mouse
• HDMI cable
• Ethernet cable
• Access to the internet

IMPORTANT:

• Make sure your recorder and Wi-Fi camera are on the same network.
• Make sure you are logged onto the same Lorex account to setup the recorder and Wi-Fi camera.

Part 1 – Preparation

• Make sure your recorder and Wi-Fi camera are powered ON.
• Check that the recorder and Wi-Fi camera are Fusion-enabled (i.e., compatible). Verify your recorder and camera’s model number then check here to see if they are compatible.
• Connect your recorder to the router using an Ethernet cable.
• Connect your recorder to the monitor using an HDMI cable.
• If you have not done so yet, set up your recorder now via Setup Wizard.

  When you create a secure password for the recorder write down the password as you will need it shortly. Note: This is the device password for your recorder, it is not your Lorex account password.

• Connect your Wi-Fi camera to the Lorex Home app. Refer to the product documentation, as needed.
  

  To connect your Wi-Fi camera to the Lorex Home app:

  1. Launch the Lorex Home app.
  2. Tap the  icon on the Devices screen.
  3. Scan the QR code on the camera using your mobile device’s camera. Note: If your mobile device cannot scan the QR code, tap Manually enter Device ID.
  4. Create a secure password for the device then write down the password as you will need it shortly. Note: The device password is for your camera, it is not your Lorex account password.
  5. Follow the in-app instructions to successfully add your Wi-Fi camera to the Lorex Home app.
• (Optional) Connect your recorder to the Lorex Home app. Refer to the article Fusion Collection – How to add the recorder to the Lorex Home app, for more information.

Part 2 – Connect your Wi-Fi camera to the recorder

1. Go to Main Menu > Camera Menu > Registration.
2. Enter the recorder’s device password.
3. In the Camera Registration settings, click Device Search. 
4. Now, the camera(s) that you have previously added to the Lorex Home app should be detected and appear right away in the Device Search section.
5. 
6. Check the checkbox that corresponds to each device. 
7. Click Add.
8. 
9. Now, the device should appear in the Added Device section. 
10. In the Added Device list, click on the pencil icon under Edit to enter the device password. 
11. Click on the Password field, then enter the device password for your camera. 

WARNING: The camera will lock itself if you enter the wrong password. If this happens, please power cycle the camera and go back to Step 1.

8. Click Connect, then click OK. Your camera’s Live View should appear right away. 

Congratulations! You have successfully fused your Wi-Fi camera with your recorder. You can now access your Wi-Fi camera on both the recorder and the Lorex Home app.

Recommendations

• Remember to update the recorder to the latest firmware. Check out this FAQ on how to upgrade your recorder to the latest firmware version.
• In the Lorex Home app the camera will appear twice–once as an individual camera and again as a camera connected to the recorder. We recommend that you disable notifications for the individual camera so that you do not receive duplicate notifications from the same camera.

To disable notifications:

1. Launch the Lorex Home app.
2. At the Devices screen, go to the device settings for the camera by tapping the  icon on the top-right.

   

3. Tap Notifications, and then tap the icon to disable notifications.

How to add the recorder to the Lorex Home app

As part of the Fusion Collection, you can now add your compatible recorder to the Lorex Home app.

This article applies to the following recorders: N841, N842, N843 and N861.

Prerequisites

For this procedure, you must connect a monitor to your recorder using an HDMI cable and a mouse to one of the USB ports on your recorder.

Step 1. Log in to your recorder.

Step 2. Right-click on the mouse, then click Info to reveal the QR Code of your recorder.

Step 3. Now grab your smartphone and launch the Lorex Home app and tap + to open your smartphone’s camera.

Step 4. Using your smartphone’s camera, scan the QR Code of your recorder.

Step 5. Follow the on-screen instructions on adding the recorder to the Lorex Home app.
