How To Upgrade Firmware on a QCAM NVR.

Any QCAM NVR should always be operating on the latest firmware version available.

If you are experiencing intermittent connectivity to the internet, general bugginess or difficulty using any feature, you must make sure there is no available firmware update which would indicate you are not on the latest version.

There are 2 ways to check for your NVR firmware version:
1. On the NVR’s built-in interface, from the Main Menu, navigate to System(in the Info row)->Version.

2. On the web interface, log in, then click the “i” icon in the top right corner and you will land on the Version page.

The NVR cannot be expected to work as advertised unless it is up to date.

Please always make sure you have the latest version before trying any other troubleshooting steps or contacting support.

There are 2 methods to update the firmware on your NVR: directly on the NVR or through the web interface.

Method 1: DVR Interface

The safest way to upgrade the NVR is by doing it directly on the device.

First download the most recent firmware from http://www.amcrest.com/firmware-subscribe.

Now copy the firmware onto a flash drive.

Note: The flash drive must be formatted to FAT32 or exFAT. But do not worry, most flash drives are formatted to this by default.

Insert the flash drive into the USB port on the NVR and a window will appear.

Select the System Upgrade option. You may be required to login. Be sure to use an administrator account.

The System Upgrade window will now be shown. Click Start.

Select the firmware file that you downloaded and click Start. A progress bar will be shown at the bottom of the window. Once the upgrade has finished the NVR might restart on its own.

Note: Do not turn off the NVR during the upgrade process or it can damage the NVR and make it inoperable. 

Method 2: Web Interface

First download the most recent firmware from http://www.amcrest.com/firmware-subscribe

Next login to the NVR’s web interface. Click the setup gear icon in the top right. Then click System on the left panel, then Upgrade below it.

Click the Browse button and select the firmware file you downloaded.

Click the Upgrade button and the upgrade process will begin. A progress bar will appear showing you the progress of the upgrade. Once the upgrade has finished the NVR might Restart on its own.

Note: Do not turn off the NVR during the upgrade process or it can damage the NVR and make it inoperable.

Step 1: Prepare a USB flash drive and format it (USB 2.0 Standard is recommended).

Step 2: Download the firmware zip file to your computer from the following link:

• Upgrade from Cloud is Recommend.

To upgrade your NVR’s firmware through a Cloud Upgrade, it is necessary to connect the NVR to your network.

In the Upgrade settings, click Check to check for the latest available version of the firmware.

If an update is available for your NVR, proceed with upgrading your firmware.

If not, you will get a message that your NVR firmware is up to date.

• If you prefer upgrading from Local, please follow the steps below:

Step 1. Prepare a USB flash drive, format it firstly. (Recommend FAT32 USB 2.0)

Step 2. Download the firmware zip file from the below link.

Step 5. After the upgrading is 100% completed, the NVR will beep and auto reboot. Wait 30-40 seconds for it restarting. Upgrading done!

• ECO Series DVR/NVR: To restore this NVR model, right-click on “Live View” to access the “Quick Menu”. Click the Main Menu icon (a house) the click “Advanced”. Click the “Maintain” tab and then go to “Load Default”.

Select the menus you wish to restore to factory settings or click “All” to restore the entire system. Click “Apply” then “OK” on the Warning Window. Click “OK” to return to the menu and “Exit” to return to the previous menu. Reboot the DVR for the changes to take effect.

• LNR200/LNR300 Series NVR: To restore this NVR model, right-click “Live View” then click “Menu”. Afterwards, click “Maintenance”, “Default”, and then “OK” to auto-reboot the NVR and restore the device to its factory settings.
• LHA/LNK Series DVR/NVR: To restore this NVR model, go to the Taskbar and click, the Main Menu icon (a house). From there, click the “Advanced”, “Maintenance” option, and the “Maintenance” tab. On the tab, click “Load Default”.

Select the menus you wish to restore to factory settings. Click “Save” to confirm then restart your NVR for changes to apply.

If this doesn’t fix your offline camera this might mean hardware failure. Contact Technical Support for assistance and potential replacement if the cam is under warranty.

Fixing an Offline Lorex Camera with a PoE Switch Connection

If your offline cam is connected to a Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch (that’s also linked to your router) then you might need to reconnect the cam to your NVR.

• Reconnect and Disconnect: To reconnect your camera on an LHV/LNR Series NVR, disconnect then reconnect the cam to the switch. Make sure the switch is linked to the same router as your NVR.
• Menu Navigation: Now right-click “Live View” to get the “Quick Menu”. Now click “Device Search”. Login the NVR with your login info. The default username and password is in your user manual.
• Device Search: After clicking Device Search, your NVR will search the network it’s connected to for any IP cameras. It’ll then display them on the top half of the Remote Device window.
• Select Camera: Select the camera you wish to reconnect to on the window then click “Add”. Enter the password of the cam (also in your user manual). The cam appears on the window’s lower half.
• Green Status: After a few moments, the status should turn green. This indicates the cam has been successfully added to the NVR.

How do you restore an IP camera to default settings?

Make sure the cam is connected to your NVR through the Ethernet cable. Press and hold the reset button located at the base or back of the camera. While holding this button, disconnect and reconnect the Ethernet cable.

This should make your cam go back to factory settings and restart for good measure. The camera should start operating normally after the restart. However, because it’s back to factory settings, you’ll need to reconfigure the system and put in your custom settings from before.

Click on the “Local Config” option:

How can I reset the password for the 2M 8000 Series NVR?

This is valid for models 2MN-8004-P4, 2MN-8008-P8, 2MN-8116-P16, 2MN-8232-P16

There are two very similar ways you can reset the NVR password if it has been forgotten, but both methods begin the same way: obtaining the serial number of the device. It can be found in different areas: the sticker on the side of the box, the sticker on the bottom of the device, or when you click Forgot Password on the NVR local screen, and it will begin with “210..” and be 20 characters long (a mixture of numbers and letters).

By clicking on Forgot Password it will open a new window that will show the serial number and ask for the security code. Contact tech support for the security code. Make sure you are in front of the device at the time of calling because it will need to be entered within a frame of time. Once the correct security code has been entered the window will change to enter a new password. It is recommended to create a strong password.

The second method to reset the password begins the same. Obtain serial number → contact tech support → enter security code into the password box. After entering the code another window will open asking for the security code again and the new password.

How to Access Device from Web

When devices are connected to the network, they can also be accessible from a computer. How To Connect a Hikvision Camera to an Amcrest NVR Using ONVIF

Before connecting your camera to the NVR using ONVIF, it is recommended to ensure that the camera is set back to its original factory default settings. This will ensure that no errors or setting conflicts occur during setup. The default IP for the camera should be 192.168.1.94. Please make sure the computer, camera, and NVR are on the same network during setup. The Hikvision SADP tool may be used during setup.

Step 1: Open the Hikvision SADP tool, select the camera, and activate it.

After the camera has been activated, optional security questions can be applied if necessary.

Step 2: Once the camera has been activated, select the camera from the interface and click Enable DHCP and enter an applicable TCP port number into the Port field (in this case, we are using a default port number of 37777). Enter the password of the camera into the Administrator Password field and click Modify.

A constant bitrate allows the bitrate to remain constant whereas a variable bitrate allows the system to choose a bitrate. It is highly recommended to keep the bitrate type as CBR to keep the bitrate consistent.

By default, the device is enabled to record motion detection events and alarms 24/7, however, a general (continuous) recording type can be enabled as well. Please note, there are 3 main recording types; General (which allows the camera to record continuously), Motion, (which allows the device to record only when motion events are triggered), and Alarm (which allows the device to record once an alarm has been triggered).

How To Install Using Windows

To install the Amcrest Surveillance Pro software on your computer, click here.

To begin installing the software, double click the provided .exe file. to begin the installation. Please note, if you have Windows Defender SmartScreen or certain versions of Norton running on your machine, please allow the software to be downloaded on your device. If Windows Defender is blocking the software, click on More Info then click on Run Anyway to begin installing.

On the initial setup screen, select your language from the Select Language dropdown menu. Click on the I have read and agree checkbox and agree to the End-User License Agreement (“EULA”) agreement. To read the agreement, click on the agreement link provided. Once complete, click Next to continue.

Select an installation path for the software. To choose a folder, click on the Browse button and select the folder. Once a folder has been selected, click the Install button to begin installing the software on your computer.

Please note, if there is an older version of Amcrest Surveillance Pro detected on your machine, the new software will overwrite the old software. However, the device list information will still be reserved. Click Install to install the new software.

To generate a shortcut icon for the software on your desktop, click the Generate shortcuts checkbox.

Once the software has finished installing you will see a few options available. You will have the option to view the release note and run the Amcrest Surveillance Pro software. To begin running the software directly after pressing finish, select the Run Amcrest Surveillance Pro checkbox and click Finish to proceed.

Setting a Password

After the installation of the Amcrest Surveillance Pro software, you will need to set an administrator password. This password will be the admin password for the software. When a valid password has been entered, confirm the password in the Confirm Password field and click Next to continue.
